  1. I used to use PSP too before I saw the light. Anyway, from memory you need to find the diagonal line pattern, (often called 'scan lines') somewhere first, make it if you need to. Make a new layer and use "Flood Fill" with the "Paint Bucket" tool and select the diagonal line image for the pattern fill. If you only want to fill certain a area, select it with the polygon lasso first. Then you just need to set the opacity of the layer for the desired density of the line pattern. If are going to make your own scan line patterns, here is the scan line template from Photoshop. As you can see, each pattern is only 3 pixels x 3 pixels and are very easy to make.
  2. Further on Image viewing and optimization programs, I found another that I think might even rival Irfanview. It's called FastStone Image Viewer, it's free for home use and it displays PNG files correctly. If you're into slideshows, it has some awesome tools for slideshows. In addition, it can also edit files similar to Irfanview, including text, shapes, arrows and overlaying other images on top of the original. It's well worth a look, their web site is here.
  3. See, I knew there was someone else out there that wanted to show us what they can do. I'll set this battle up for voting in the next day or so, you can modify/improve your entry up until the voting starts. Good luck!
  4. Hrm... no response from AD? Maybe he doesn't like them or he is too busy making his sig for our battle.
  5. Assuming you are using Photoshop, the first place to look for brushes is deviantART. Look in the "Application Resources" section. They do have brushes for other applications there too, but I think they have mostly Photoshop brushes.
  6. Nice sig for an early effort, it looks like you're really learning something from the many tutorials here. I particularly like the 'saga' text, it looks like it's 'stamped' into the sig. Normally I don't like monochromatic sigs like this, but I think you've done it well. The coloring fits the mood of the sig well. Nice work! I think you'd be a perfect candidate for the current sig battle I am running, click on the link to see what it's all about. >> http://forums.xisto.com/topic/34555-avalon-vs-2-x-non-gfx-crew-members-render-supplied/
  7. Nothing to be emarassed about with that revised entry AD! Still looking for the second non GFX Crew member to get this battle into the voting stage. Don't be shy now, I know there are others out there that are just itching to show us what they can do. As AD has shown, a bit of practice can make a huge improvement.Your entry can be revised/improved as many times as you like until voting starts.
  8. I think this would have to be the most successful SOTW so far! Congratulations to all the participants on the high standard of entries and thank you to all those that have voted. Thanks must also go to Saint Michael for devising the unusual concept for this SOTW, well done mate!
  9. Very nice topic electriic ink, being I am in Melbourne, it is very exciting here at the moment and chaotic at the same time. Best of luck to all the Commonwealth teams competing and I hope they enjoy our city. As our Lord Mayor says, "Please Enjoy!". We are a very multicultural city so I'm sure every athlete will find something familiar in the city. As I type this, the opening ceremony it taking place.
  10. A gift for a quality member of the forums, keep up the good work. If you're wondering what I'm talking about, take a look at the text in his signature. Enjoy AD! Added matching Avatar, somehow the Starwars trooper he currently uses just doesn't seem right.
  11. I am able to see your site too. Only thing I suggest is to try using http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (note the use of 'www') You also might want to make your topic titles more descriptive, the moderators do not take kindly to this type of title. You will also find you will get a better response from members if you were to use a topic such as 'Please help, I can't access my web site.' Just some friendly advice
  12. OK, this battle is to see what some of our non-GFX Crew forum members can do. It will be a 3 way battle, me against 2 forum members that are not in the Xisto GFX Crew. Once 2 people have posted their entries here, I will post mine. The voting will the best of 7 votes, therefore, if an entry earns 4 votes it will deemed the winner, otherwise we will keep going until 7 votes are cast. DO NOT POST YOUR VOTES HERE, I will create a voting post once the entries are posted. The specifications for the entries are as follows: Render: Must use this render or part of it. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Text: Must include at least your name, additional text optional Size: minimum 300 x 120, maximum 400 x 150 Can use popout style provided it fits in the size restrictions Animation: optional Brushing style: Any Color: To suit render Good Luck!
  13. I can't believe this battle isn't finished yet! My vote goes to Truefusion, the render on Sprite's is waaaay too small to be effective.Sprite: 1Truefusion: 3(Assuming $upa pimp's vote is invalid)
  14. 9 entries!! This is great, nice to see a new face in there too, and some old ones returned. Let's hope we get as good response in the voting. My vote goes to Saint Michael. I love the ice effect, it fits really well with the render. The coloring and lighting really help to set it off.
  15. Here's my entry. Good luck every one. EDIT: It would seem I misunderstood the format a little, changed sig to 1 render rather than 2.
  16. I did bevel both sides of the quake logo, perhaps it's just the lighting that looks like I haven't. The text I used for my name is more meant as just a 'tag' rather than part of the sig, I have used that same font on many sigs for the same reason. With the blending, I was trying to blend both sides of the render, any more blending and the face started to disappear. Perhaps I should have just concentrated on blending the back of his head instead.I tried a lot of different textures for the logo, I thought this one looked the best. Maybe I need more textures to use. Now that I think about it, I think the background is a little too colorful for this type of sig. Thanks for the feedback guys.
  17. I downloaded a few new brushes and thought I'd try them with this Quake sig. R&C please
  18. I used to use a script similar to this for my contact page. However, lately I have been getting spam email sent via my contact page. The reason for this is I did not have adequate validation on the fields for the form. While I had the form checking the various fields exist, I did not check for a valid email address. This script will suffer from the same problem, to resolve it I suggest inserting the following code as shown. $from = $_POST["from"]; //gets the name of the person $email = $_POST["email"]; //gets their email address//start email address check codefunction check_email($email) { if(ereg("([[:alnum:]\.\-]+)(\@[[:alnum:]\.\-]+\.+)", $email)) { return 1; } else{ return 0; } }$email_ok = check_email($email);if ($email_ok == 0) {echo("The email address you entered is invalid");exit;}//end email address check code $content = "This message is from $from whose email address is $email.\r\n-----------\r\n ";This checks the email address is in the form of "someone@domain.com", if it is not the script will show the message, "The email address you entered is invalid" and exit the script. While this will not stop the message being sent when a fake email address is entered, I have found some of these spammers tend to not use an address. Hopefully this will save you from some of the spam mail I have suffered from.
  19. I agree wholeheartedly! This is an amazing little program, I still can't believe that it's free. I'm sure the big software houses must have approached the author to buy the rights for it. The ONLY drawback I can find with it is it does not seem to display PNG files very well.
  20. I was able to see both the eggs without a problem. The first one is a wizard and a flower appearing in a small window with a button that says, "Begone". The second one shows a different image to your normal "About" screen, it has an image called "Dark Matter" on it.
  21. The banner service I provide is just to give some free advertising to other sites that have a similar theme to mine. I don't gain any advantage from the banners, except maybe a few extra hits from voluntary reciprocal links. Because it appears all banners had this increase in clicks, I tend to think this was a bot of some type. I just can't see the point of it.
  22. I provide a free banner rotation service on my site (http://www.mudmall.com/) and it appears someone or something has been 'spam clicking' my banners. Not that I really mind, I'm just curious as to why someone would do this. Here an example of what I mean with the banner statistics for one of the accounts on my site. The columns are as follows: date - number of views - number of clicks - click ratio As you can see, there was a big increase in the number of clicks on March 6 & 7. This is similar for all accounts in my banner rotation. I can't understand why someone would want to do this, the banners just link to other sites. Has anyone else has something similar to this happen to them?
  23. I looked at Clubhost City, here are some of the restrictions contained in their TOS. I don't believe Xisto has any restrictions like these. While they offer more space and bandwidth and similar cPanel features with their free accounts, I wonder how long they can maintain these services, the forums appear to have been active for less than 12 months. There appears to be no advertising in the forums and they say there is no advertising on the free hosting sites. How do they generate revenue to keep the free hosting going? It does not seem to me like a sustainable venture, at least with Xisto at does appear to be sustainable giving me confidence that they will be offering free hosting for quite some time to come. In the end, if you think you would be happier at Clubhost, then go there. It's as simple as that.
  24. Here is a simple question to all those that feel it hard to earn credits to keep your hosting going? If you were paying for the same type of service, someone else suggested $15 a month so we'll use that for this example, how much time would you need to spend to earn that $15? Be assured, NOTHING is truly free. Everything requires some type of investment from you. For free hosting here, that investment is time. If you think you can earn $15 a month in less time that it takes you to earn the necessary credits to keep your account going here, then perhaps you should consider using a paid host. Xisto - Web Hosting.com has some very affordable plans if you prefer a paid host. If you'd rather use the free hosting offered here, please accept the credit system as it is. Afterall, you did agree to do so when you signed up for your account, so please don't complain about it now. If the credit system does not suit you, then perhaps you should look at Xisto.net for free hosting with site banners or a paid host as I mentioned above.
  25. Here's my entry. Seemed a little odd working 'sideways' like this.
