  1. Thanks for the help. I'll be working on it now. I've heard ZoneAlarn is pretty good but I'm keeping my network to a "lowly" Norton Anti-virus 2003 on both computers. (Actually, three of them). I'm sure the anti-virus program will do the trick in preventing hacker/virus access. Besides, this is just a home network, nothing fancy. Just something to connect the computers together. Thanks again! Really appreciate it! I'll ask more if any problems pop-up.
  2. My parents have been persuading me over and over again to do something about our wireless internet connection. No, its not that the router has any problems connecting the computers to the internet. My problem is that i want to connect my computers together to enable the sharing of files, programs, and most importantly, my printer. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to use the already set up wireless connection to link all the computers together. I've done networking with cables yeah but never with wireless. I've tried the wizards Windows XP provides to create networks but it won't work because the computer doesn't know how to use my wireless adapter as a network adapter. This topic probably has appeared somewhere around the forum but the words "wireless" and "networking" is not exactly unusual and searching for the right topic will be a problem. Details: 3 computers: All running Windows XP, one using a wireless LAN card (laptop), one using a PCI wireless adapter, and one using a external wireless adapter. Access point: Wireless Linksys router connected to cable modem. I don't think much information is needed for this since all the computers connect to the router just fine. I would glady appreciate anything that might help me out with this and if you could, maybe a website with step-by-steps telling me how to do this. Thanks!! Happy Christmas! tech
  3. An ISP is an Internet Service Provider. For example: Comcast, AOL and the such. I've not exactly had much experience with cable networks but i think it works similarly with a wireless network. I had a similar problem before but instead of the internet connection cutting off after big downloads, i get a cut off somewhat every 30 secs then after 10 secs the connection is up again and the cycle repeats itself. I found out the problem was the WEP encryption in the wireless connection settings. It was at default (I have no idea why) encrypted and somehow its not supposed to let me connect to the access point at all but it did, only for 30 secs. Hope this might've helped you! (As in you probably need to check your network firewall for restrictions and such.)
  4. Thanks Jdz, I'm still working on these new custom brushes and trying to actually use them to make something good. So far its been tough because they're basically all the same with different shapes. Truthfully, I work much more better with default brushes which I've used constantly with my previous sigs so far. The Christmas sig i have now is totally default brushes and my click-by-click green trees at the background. Thanks for your comments, I'll work on trying to make it look better. I'd probably design another sig based on yours and SM's comments.Happy Christmas!tech
  5. Limewire is really popular amongst the young teens folks around my county because it is VERY user-friendly and works like a dream. The program usually scans the file first before letting you open it. For extra precaution, i enabled a part of Norton Anti-virus to block any incoming or outgoing data through my computer. So far, i've never had any malware/viruses/trojans, you name it. Thus, limewire is working great for me now. You don't get much of other things except music from limewire though, videos might be contaminated with "stuff-you-don't-want-to-see" and you can never trust the files and programs unless it is said that there have been multiple downloads from the same user. Personally...i just stick with music searching/downloading with limewire.P.S. Limewire lags itunes when both are run together.
  6. The fact that Xisto's members come from all around the world makes us very much diverse. Some understand things differently in ways that one might consider good or bad. I personally hate the "hacker" jargon because i can barely make out what is being said at all. It is true though, however, that if you're an English speaker, the human mind will be able to interpret the exact word just by knowing the correct placement of the first and last letters of a word while having the middle-letters rearranged. For example: Understanding the paragraph might take a little longer for your mind to get used to but there is no saying the English speaker will not be able to comprehend it. I know this is getting off topic but as an ending statement, i think Twitch might be right about his sayings. Though, Xisto was never exactly professional, just a little more technical than Trap. Our current mod team has already been extremely lenient with poor English around the forum. There is no such rule that states all members to be English speaking, just that we must arrive in Asta with nothing but the knowledgeable brain, then again, great minds do not always come from people of an English heritage. Proofread and certified, tech
  7. This is a smart move for Google, even though AOL isn't one of the best ISPs around, it is one of the most popular in US. I used it once before too and i love the browser and everything that comes with it. You're definitely restricted in some ways though i have to admit. Also, AIM mail comes with 2gigs of storage which is similar to Gmail. I wonder if Gmail will join be part of the screenname program thing. AOL will get another nice boost of profits while Google works its way up and maybe even dominate AOL's email/AIM service. I'll wait till then for it to happen.
  8. Well i kinda wanted to give it a medieval feel to it because Guild Wars isn't "space-age" but more of swords, shields and armor plates kindof time. So i made the text a little romanly. What did you mean by j-z brushes? I don't find much names in the brushes, i just randomly choose one and click. =PPP
  9. Of course, i downloaded the whole load of brushes from SM's filefront (After 2 hours of waiting for my turn), and dropped them off in my brushes folder. I started messing around with it but thought it was really extremely boring because they all looked the same. I found my mistake later on though, that i actually "brushed" the canvas instead of "clicking" and letting the image of the brush run through. What's weird about brushing with the custom brushes are that you can really go crazy with them and yet find that your result looks great.(I believe this is called "grunge"?) With default brushes, you gotta really know what you're doing and apply filters to modify the brush pattern a little. OK, so enough of the chit-chat, here's the logo: I'm pretty sure Logan (Deathbringer) won't mind me placing this up here for your comments and such because it was supposed to be in use as a logo for his Guild Wars guild site. I added the little swishy thing that goes around the name with a pen and a filter (called Polar in Distort i believe) because i thought it looks a little plain. I'm still thinking of adding some image to the right of the logo to make it more interesting but still awaiting an answer from Logan. I would gladly welcome constructive criticisms for me to draft a final copy for the site. Thanks again for the "gift" SM!
  10. It's pretty nice you know, considering you placed 2 photos of different people together yet both holding up that "2-peace-finger thing" hand sign. I think the guy goes very well with your light contrast. Like SM said, (i think) you might wanna blend the girl in a little like the guy. Lower the light "exertion" a little because its covering up that little space between them which shows the background. Otherwise, i love it and I'm sure your friend will too. (It'll look great if she puts it as her display pic in MSN heh)
  11. Well i kinda started with the all-rounded Macromedia Fireworks. You can basically do everything you can in Photoshop but with imageready together in that one program. Its great for beginners but as you move up along, you'd like more opportunities and tools and more complex graphics so you'll most likely choose photoshop as its like a Graphic Designer's best friend.
  12. Just one thing to add although you might have noticed it already, updates in Cpanel are refreshed automatically after every 24 hours last time i checked i believe. I think this problem is related to the DeviantArt problem i had a couple of months ago. I used a dynamic IP with my ISP so my IP is constantly changing everytime i go on to the net. I tried to sign up for DeviantArt but it said my ISP has been blocked because of some other person trying to create multiple accounts using the same IP. OK, so this is really stupid, i tried using another computer of mine going on the same ISP - obviously, same problem. But when i used the school computer to sign up, it worked. The school computers used the same ISP company but of course, a different plan. I'm not sure how this works but hey, doesn't this sound familiar when trying to relate to your problem? The server might have detected tons of people from the same ISP but when they detected your college ISP, they gave it a 1. I'm not exactly sure about all this either. Maybe you should try using an external counter/hit counter. Here's an example: http://www.sitemeter.com/ Use it not as a permanent stat counter but more as a temporary one to compare cpanel's counter to this other one. Hope this helps!
  13. Happy Belated Birthday szupie! (Hah! Like I'd forget you prefer the lowercase s) Hope you had a wonderful time that day. You're 14 this year aren't you? That makes us both the same age heh though your skills definitely overpower mine. At the same time i'd also like to wish you Happy holidays!
  14. Kinda agree with yordan here. Looks like you're applying a tad too much motion blur on the first and second. (Not sure if the first is considered motion blur though). I'm not exactly sure about the hurting your eyes part though because it doesn't seem to have any effect to my eyes. I love the way you did the text on the first one but the render wasn't exactly well placed into the pic. The second pic would look much better if you minimize it all into a sig-size pic and kept the Ryu (Er...is that him?) but without that much of motion blur. Looks great though, its a good start although I'm not sure if my comments might prove much useful at all because I am still an amateur designer.
  15. Well i kinda thought that wasn't exactly obscene to the eye because if you actually try to compare it to those Victoria's secret posters sometimes found on the streets or at the mall, this would be nothing. SM, sorry i find it hard to squeeze time out to actually get down and working on the pop-up sig because of finals coming up. I'll try to start work on it starting next weekend probably - which is after the exams. I'm thinking of a way to making the edges smoother though anyhow, and doing quick tests with Photoshop. So far no good...still working on it.
  16. Actually that's starting to turn out pretty cool. I'm gonna try to make one later on. Although with one slight problem that i don't think it will be noticeable at all. The edges of the 3D platform the "girls" are sitting on are like pixeled out. What I'm trying to say is that the sides are not smooth although the rest of it looks really good. I think I'm gonna try working on it on my own first before referring to your tutorial. It's a great challenge to take on. Great Surprise by the way! I just read ElfoReal's post and so you created this thread just in time!
  17. Wow! Great set of mario sigs! Love the megaman sig but you know maybe you could add a delay to it when the mouth becomes clearer. Makes it more real and more eye-friendly because the constant swishing of the sword makes your eyes tiring after awhile. After that, i especially love the last 3. Those are, in my eyes, perfect! 3rd last was the best because i love that shadowy effect and "darkness in SM". The render basically takes up the whole sig which is pretty cool. I thought maybe you could've made the hand (or is it the hand?) on the left of the sig a little clearer so others know that the shadowman is actually "making a grab for you". Otherwise, it's great! Once again you've done Asta proud and made such a great set of sigs.
  18. What would you recommend really as a person who as experience in this type of coding because I've never exactly messed around with these stuff but I'd like to try it out. Probably later when Viz gives the all-clear sign eh?
  19. Thanks for the compliment Trippin I really appreciate that =P Merry Christmas to you and good luck with your brushing!
  20. True, the human are just getting THAT lazy now over the years that it seems as if it takes so much to get some humanely service around here. No AI can take over the human brain and just to add a quote from Ada Bryon in my own words: "A computer, no matter how powerful, can ever think". Obviously, most people think this is true and i do too. Just look at this example and you can see how lame the computers are in determining what you really want. Some don't even understand figure-of-speech when you're trying to ask what a certain word/phrase means figuratively. Reply to Sarah: No way would i buy anything from a company who gives bot service. I've already had problems with phone bots (Those answering machine thingis) and i personally don't get what they're used for, i just dial the pound key to ask for a system operator to help me out and zone out the other numbers.
  21. Wow! I'm impressed! Definitely a sweet gift =P, but you know, I've already downloaded the brushes.zip before from your filefront heh. It only gave me like 20-30 files i guess in ABR format but when i saved it in the presets folder and opened up Photoshop, the brushes selection seriously started lagging a little from the unexpected "weight" heh. So anyways yeah I've tried using a few and they turned out great! The first time i used it though, i only saw the design that the brush makes when you actually "paint/slide" across the layer instead of clicking and getting a full imprint from it. I might start downloading the renders and see what you've got, for right now though, Google's my friend. Thanks again!
  22. I have similar comments to pyost's ideas. The grayish tint makes the site look dull and monotonous. I'm pretty sure what you want for the site is to display your sigs and stuff just like Reaver and SM so I'll say that you need more shades of colors instead of just the gray. Start with a white background and move in with the different shades of black/gray when you get to the first outer table. I'd suggest going from light to dark from outside to inside if you're using a white background and dark to light from outside to inside if you start with a black background. Of course these are all but comments and if you'd prefer a similar yet different method it might prove much better than my suggestions. I like the layout graphics you've done with the site though, it gives it a little gothic kindof look. Keep workin on it!
  23. Well yeah thats true, but if you'd compare the evolution of the cockroach to that of humans, you can observe a different growth pattern in them. Roaches evolve lesser than humans and probably because humans learned to use tools such as what you said - coats and hats to keep them warm, in turn reducing the amount of body hair required to keep warm. I think this is kinda getting off topic =P
  24. Hey there Andrea! Glad for you to have stopped by and joined us. If you're new to these types of forums I'd suggest you read the FAQ? of Asta so you won't get any problems in your stay here. We hope to see you contribute to our community and maybe even learn something new at the same time(Which is what i have actually done). Good luck in obtaining your first hosting account and have a.... Happy Christmas! Evionition
  25. Again boredom overtook me during the weekend and i began work on an xmas sig that i thought maybe i should "paint" using Photoshop. I know SM's already done one of these (the xmas sig, not the brushing with default brushes thing) but I'm just testing my brush techniques around for others to comment. I don't exactly consider this a sig at all truthfully but just an immature painting, I'd appreciate constructive criticisms though! I know it looks kinda weird and all. It's actually trying to let you see that there IS a North pole and that Santa is opening out the grass (Even though there isn't any in the North pole, i just thought it would be cool to include that effect) and showing you the road to xmas town. You can vaguely see the blue road to beyond the hills and some reindeer at the background "behind" all that snow accidentally knocking the tree off and fireworks are blasting the words "Happy Xmas!" in the sky. I brushed up the whole sig except for Santa and the text. Overall i think it looks kinda plain but i thought it would be nice to show a "soft" kind of sig for the season, after working for awhile with those trendy, hardcore sigs that really make you go "Sweet! It rox!". If ya'll would notice, I didn't put my name in there at any place at all because well - Xmas is a time to share and be giving. So this sig is for all who thinks its great and would like to use it. Happy Xmas Asta and friends! Sorry for the double post. If any mod could help me out, i would like to replace the image link of the above to this: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/3527/xmasig3ak.pngYou may delete this post after doing so. Thanks so much! (If you would like to know, i forgot to add a border to the image and now i did and it looks better =P)
