  1. I would most probably agree with you but many less IT oriented people prefer the old-school internet explorer to Firefox. I myself dislike the sudden change but after awhile i get used to it. Plus FireFox, being pretty much open-source allows you to "edit" its insides. The browser you use all actually depends on what kinds of webpages you're usually viewing. I'm more of a graphic type person but i like to check on news and other's blogs so i like the text to load fast - FireFox style! The tabs come in pretty handy when you're using cpanel too. When I need a quick blog update i would most preferably use file manager and doing that already opens up 3 windows - all of which i can use the tabs function with. In my opinion, get used to FireFox and ignore all the other "lame" attempts from Microsoft to gain back popularity for IE.
  2. Although I'm not a linux user, i believe more and more people use linux because of its simplicity and the fact that most viruses do not target the Linux. Like you said, most linux newbies will go hey this looks like Windows 98! The motorcycle to car evolution forms an idea in all of our heads thinking yeah hey why do we compare linux to windows? Why do we not compare it to Mac too? What a change it will be then if everyone starts thinking with the bitten Apple. Each OS has its own pros and cons and always will be no matter how much its producer tries to make it better. ( E.g Windows will always have the problem of security forever much to my belief) Truely, why is everyone so biased against other great OS like Linux and Macs? Windows works well because its very general. Linux is easy to use because its traditional. and Mac is simple to use because it handles many types of programs well. So we get the idea now that Windows is not the god OS and should not be used as a center of focus in comparison.
  3. What a boy huh? That 10ton determination on his head kept him going all the way, even though he knew that he would never be able to see and play with his eyes, he still continued practicing without a bit of complaint. What a wonder... The article didn't say anything about his studies though... Well if he's making it to college then i guess he's doing OK but its gonna be pretty hard for his to study video-game-design. What with all the coding to be done and all. I know there are alot of text-to-speech programs but if he's gonna design a HUGE game....the coding will be a little out of hand if read letter-by-letter.
  4. Google Maps is cool! Tried it the first time with my own house and found an almost accurate bird's eye view of my house. Now I'm wondering if they actually surveyed the whole earth to get such results! Or did they create a 3D simulation of your area which comes to the reason why they don't allow you to zoom further. But hey, its free and so accurate you can look at it and even if the landmark is not labled you'll know where you are already! Hey is that Mcdonalds behind that building over there......?
  5. Looks pretty bogus to me. The program intself just allows you to edit some stuff like textures but basically everything's pre-loaded. Like Neverseen had said, Terragen makes it too easy and there's no point to it if you can't use your own design to actually make it. 30 seconds is a pretty short time to make such highly detailed mountains so i doubt that you have to put a real effort to actually look like mountains at all.
  6. Being a long time Windows user, i agree on only these few things:1. Windows has gotten themselves into so much trouble by providing so little security into the earlier versions of their OS and thus they look more into security than into quality.2. Mac has basically NO viruses targetted to its OS, which means that it's programmers and designers can work more on its style, capability, and efficiency. This is a major disadvantage for windows.3. By realeasing a new OS, they plan to again create havoc by building it on the same base string of codes they used to program their first OS so there is no point in another OS which will not only attract more home-users but hackers as well.and....4thly: I like the Mac OS tiger better =)Yeah that's about it. I only started really using Macs a year ago and its starting to pay off. I never seem to need to bother about RAM or processor speed. Of course Macs also has its disadvantages in that many windows games don't run on Macs but Macs are designed for school/office work, not games and fun. So I'd probably switch to Mac and buy a Powerbook rather than take on Vista - which sounds pretty crappy to me.
  7. I tried to photograph a man-made rainbow before. It was not my doing actually, just playing with some sprinklers in my back yard one day at about 4-5pm? So i set off the sprinklers and i see a rainbow nice and arched right outside my backyard!! It wasn't exactly a captivating sight but it isn't easy to ge the sun's position right and rain falling at the same time to get a rainbow so I was really excited! Unfortunately for me my camera was beyong repair due to a little accident....ah well...I'll have more luck next time!

    Edit?

I know of people who actually try to trick the credit system when they use the edit button but don't you think the mods and admins out there should give some of us hardworking, non-cheating people out here some credit? I mean some of us actually try to make decent posts, and these few really deserve a privellege to actually manage their own posts freely.I mean...what would happen if these hardworking ones make a super long tutorial and made a HUGE mistake while typing it? So we ask a mod/admin to work it out for us but the edit might not be what the owner really want it to be. The result will be hilarious...So I'm just saying that the admins/mods should be more appreciative of some others work. I know myself that we all have GREAT mods and admins out there. They've worked hard to preserve such a great envronment for us to interact with and i really love that. I feel that even being able to make a post here counts as a privelege, and not for the web hosting but for being able to be around the gifted or maybe even the newbies who comes armed with nothing but an inquisitive mind. So admins/mods here me out! p.s If you've read till up here before ditching this post i really gladly appreciate your concern!
  9. I have never been a fan of WYSIWYG editors because everything seems simpler to me when i use just the simple notepad to edit and create HTML files. My knowledge of web design started with FP when i attended a class on it. Pretty fascinating for me at that time coz i was like 9 back then and the internet was still a blur for many people. But i really hated it when all you do is drag and drop images or text into a screen like making slide with powerpoint. I wanted more freedom, which is why i moved on to Dreamweaver. The beginning versions looked pretty crappy and keeping all the necessary windows open at one time was very problematic because of lack of space. So i just played along then i realised that there is a whole other part to coding and began to learn it myself with HTML tutorials on the web. Believe me, I've NEVEr taken a HTML class before. I've asked a few of my friends who've attended it what is was like and they told me what he learnt and i realised that full $300 for a 3 hour lessons is actually worth 3 months of studying HTML yourself online. I never retreat to coding books because i think its a waste of time reading when you can do handson and learn it yourself. Most of my learning is basically assumption...play around you don't get it right try again.... When you use programs like Dreamweaver or FP it totally limits what you can do. Although Dreamweaver has an option where you can switch to the original coding panel, it is really useless because some other php or mysql databases just don't function properly in Dreamweaver and seriously NOT in FP. So basically:If you want website done in 20minutes - FrontpageIf you want website done in 30 minutes with more options - DreamweaverIf you want to mess with your website till daylight - NotepadHave fun!
  10. In what sense do you agree that a certain GIF file is of high-quality? GIF files that are of equal image quality as JPEG files? Or animation so smooth it can be pronounced as good as a SWF file?Grab an example of a GIF file and show it off here. I mean if you can get a me a GIF wallpaper I'd be glad to take a look at it and tell you if it is of same quality as a JPEG file.

    Avatars

I would suggest going to sites which support MSN messenger or AIM. Most of them will have great icons or display pics. Some of them come in packages just download'em to ur ftp. So far i've heard of one site which really loves MSN messenger - http://www.mess.be/ It's a pretty cool site with many third party programs and things to do with MSN messenger. As the name suggests - it MESSES with msn messenger. But that's not the point is it? The point is you want some avatars. Well at the site you can download emoticon packages too for ur forum. I'm not really sure how phpBB will accept custom emoticons but i'm quite sure you can add emoticons. Mess with it!
  12. If I'm not wrong, a hub is used in the center of a network where data flow is transfered around like a big spider web. The router splits the internet connection to the computers connected in the network but it doesn't mean that you can transfer data through from the computer-router-computer. I tried that and it doesn't seem possible. From my knowledge i believe a hub should be like a router of sorts but it doesn't work with certain types of networks. I use a wireless network with a Cable modem (Motorola), wireless router, network router (2 telephone ports for cable phone connection), and finally the wireless adapter itself to your computer. I'm trying to transfer data from one computer to another but it doesn't seem possible for my computer to interact with anything other than the router itself. I believe it's supposed to be able to work because hackers who tap into your UNSECURED wireless network (If you didn't secure it) may be able to see your every doings. So how do i do it?
  13. Yeah i played it before. It's pretty fun if you know how to play it. In some ways it mimics the traditional Ragnarok but it also has a very modern feel to it. Carts, cannons, and alot of other stuff. But just like Ragnarok, Rose Online is another one of those games where you fight, train, and levelup. There're no side activites like fishing or mining. There are of course fun with the skills you can do. You can make a campfire, go racing with carts and these maybe even a survival match in one of the toughest training areas in the lands. But these are player-made activities. It is not as fun as actually fishing then cooking the fish to eat over the campfire. It's not as fun if you can't buy fireworks and explode them up in the sky(not sure if there WAS such a thing). You're basically limited with what you can do in the game. Nothing personal but I myself believe Conquer Online and Runescape has a much more role-play than these other "good" games. Even though Runescape and Conquer Online may be non-cool with their graphics but they actually have many side activities that makes you less bored with training your character.
  14. For me, doing that in half an hour would be calling you a genius already. I'm not sure how to rate this. The banner looks pretty fancy but you gotta look at how and where you wanna put it on the site. What kind of theme will the site be based on. Right now i gotta say by its own would be hmm.... 7/10? The numbers and letters need to be a touch brighter although i know what kind of effect you're trying to make. The tennisboy background looks great and gives you a feeling of victory. Overall, by my standards i would give it an A. Oh and by the way, what is GIMP?
  15. Hey you know, i've been waiting for these types of reviews for a looong time. I see reviews of fansites and unofficial sites and i get bored - "Wow, its COOL!!!" is what i see everywhere. But all of you really punched it out real hard. Personally, I'm one who prefers side activities such as fishing, a little mini-game, maybe even playing hide and seek in the game itself. I'm not one who fights but more of one who slacks in the game, slowly levels up and buys armour when you can. I hate to train and especially when it's boring to train. I was kinda shocked when i learned the max level for GW is 20. I never played the beta but i kinda know how it feels to play it after playing games like Rose Online or Conquer online, or maybe even runescape. This is the reason why i like MUDs which are text-based games. They're pretty cool if you know how to play them. You get LOTS of role-play. The possibilites are almost endless. If you wanna be a scholar, be one! If you wanna be a fighter, be one! If you wanna be a lover of nature, be one! You can also begin your life in Achaea as a fisherman and live that life throughout without ever having to fight those HUGE strong monsters. Now that you all said it, i feel like cancelling my order for Guild Wars because it is not my kinda game. Even a friend of mine played it for a week and started slacking with other games because it's not very fun if you have no friends around. Maybe at max I'll buy the US$39.99 version of it (cheapest one), although its still really expensive for just one game. Besides, I'm a game hopper and never EVER stay in one game for more than a year (well...except for MUDs of course )
  16. Wow...its really not a bad game...it actually looks cool. Not because it has so many classes but because it combines the artistry of cartoons with hardcore multiplayer rol-playing action. Right now the English version is in open beta so anyone can join but i personally hate these open betas, you sign up for one and just when you're enjoying it they as kyou to pay. This is why i'm never up for trials. i only like whats free or what i buy with my own money. But for those who're up to it, Dofus seems like a pretty funny and entertaining game. All those classes can really past your time.
  17. Making a shoutbox isn't very easy if you don't have much basic php or mysql knowledge. Well i know i don't. So i skimmed the web for a simple yet easy to alter shoutbox script and i found one at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Firstly, it's free. Secondly, you get to edit just about anything in it. Thirdly, you don't get the ads. (Well...you DO get'em but you can just erase the simple link back to the website.) Fourthly, the shoutbox is simple and any other editing is done purely by HTML. I used to have another pretty good and fast one at some site which i forgot. Well...turned out the site closed down so it DID appear on some old sarch engines but not on Google and even if it does there is no link to the site. I previously reformatted my computer not long ago and found out i forgot to save my BOOKMARKS (Mozilla Firefox calls it Bookmarks). So i surrendered to the only other shoutbox website i knew - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. It doesn't come with an ad but takes awhile to refresh. These are just my past of what i found out about shoutboxes. and if you're asking - no i do NOT like http://www.tag-board.com/http://www.tag-board.com/ although i have no idea why.....
  18. I've personally started all my graphic editing knowledge from Macromedia Fireworks. Pretty good program for starters because it easy to understand. Adobe photoshop is something new. I would personally recommend Macromedia Fireworks then move on to Photoshop when you feel more comfortable with how the tools work and everything in these types of programs.
  19. Personally, when i think of searching for something my mind automatically clicks into gear - https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=BwkjVKfAD8uH8QfckIGgCQ&gws_rd=ssl The page loads the fastest. It's about the ONLY search engine that doesn't have ads on the search page (sometimes but not all the time). There's also alot of tools and things you can do with google. Google groups, froogle, google news, and not forgetting the one and only 2gig gmail! If you compare Google with other search engines there's nothing that you can see similar (except for the search engine itself of course) and yahoo/msn is really losing out BIG time. But what can you say? Each time you ask any person what search engine they like most they'll say google.
  20. omegalphafaia, your post would be your so-called nonsensical post because it basically has no meaning to it. I'm sorry but in order for this post to be of more "value" you should zoom in on the problem with "Yahoo!"'s bulk folder. What do you think is causing the problem? Did you try to solve it? Do you think it has anything to do with third party programs playing around with your e-mail? These can aid you on what you can actually start a new topic with if you would like good hosting credits and invaluable replies.
  21. Hmm....let me see...It was not until i was 9 before i saw my first computer. Before that i used to play with my TV remote control - then my dad bought me my first game console. It was a what you could call lame now because it's those $3 mini games you find on small shopping marts. The house i was living in back then had like - 5 storeys. It's a terrace house. I mainly stayed around the first 3 levels because it's where all the bedrooms are. Then one night i heard the dial-up "song" and i thought it was quite cool and followed it up to the 4th floor. Well...back then everything with buttons and a screen was a mystery to me and i actually got to see my very first Windows 95. (It was not until 3 years later that i found out it had 68mb of sdrRAM and err...i think it was 10gb or space) When my mother saw me looking at her with that creeped out look on me, she told me i could use it for my school projects. My opportunity finally came and i had to research on the founding of Singapore. I wanted to find a website but don't know where to start. (Oh by the way my internet connection back then was 32.5kbps) So i typed "Sang Nila Utama" onto the address bar(Well...he is founder of Singapore). That was when i started my love for computers. After that, everything was kinda a blur to me....i got my gameboy and playstation for birthday....got a computer and printer - Windows 98, 128mb SDRRAM 30gb. Pretty simple but i played plenty of DOS games in it. Later on i came to America for a one year stay and bought a pretty cheap and worth the price computer - Windows XP, 512mb sdrRAM, 40gb, NVIDA and all the cool stuff. Right now I'm back in the U.S and using that same computer - upgraded of course. It's still about the same specs though. Well...that's ok i don't play much games anyway. I play only MUD games and a few other graphic games and nothing else. I stick most of my spare time onto graphic-design and HTML. Might be getting an Apple soon - looking forward to a Powerbook.
  22. Alright first things first i'm just an enthusiastic kid wanting to know more stuff. I was looking through some brochures of HDTVs that my dad wants to buy. After pouring through those brochures for hours, i finally come to realise something: I do NOT understand a single feature in all the TVs. No really, I try to relate them to computers but nothing comes to my mind. Now i now what yyou all are thinking - This is a COMPUTER talk forum but I have no where else to ask and this is the most general forum i can ask from so here goes. I don't know what these features mean. I've found out a few from the net but the definitions are all to difficult for me to understand so now I'm asking for help from all you pros out there thanks: - 4-line digital comb filter/3-line comb filter/3D comb filter AND this special one: 480-line 3D-Y/C comb filter - BBE stereo system - 3.2 pull down correction - Velocity-scan modulation - Motion processor (In this case: AMVP Not sure what this stands for) - DVI input with HDCPThis is basically what i found. I don't get any one of those features but if someone can help me out i'd gladly appreciate it. Oh, and if any mod or admins see this and thinks it should be moved or deleted....well nevermind then i guess you should go ahead. Thanks all!
  23. You know, isn't it easier if you use Flash instead of Fireworks? and cooler too you know. Fireworks is based on a 7 frames per second (default CAN be altered)animation. In this case if you want a really cool looking fadeout text you should use Flash. In my opinion, Fireworks would be used with Photoshop to make SIMPLE animation graphics. Just those which only need about 3 frames you know? and loops too. Other than that Fireworks would be another normal graphics editor/creator. Nothing more.
  24. Looking at your tutorial, i would guess it's something that RPG maker is something that you know how to use but don't know how to present in word form. You show alot of information and then in the end you end off with "If I went into detail on all of these, it will cover up too much." Which is why I'm telling you that it is not possible to teach how to use RPG maker just by creating a tutorial. What I'm trying to say here is to make your topic cover less ground. Such as you could describe how you would go about creating maps and how you would host this game if you want to make it multiplayer. My second question is: What is RPG maker? Is it a program designed so that you can make games and host it with the playerworlds client? Thanks.
  25. You know, up till now i still don't really get it. Why would anyone want to hack an Aim account? Firstly, the hacker might be yur friend who wants to know your deepest secrets or something to blackmail you. How? It's not like you keep your secrets in e-mail! Second, they want to copy your contact list and send viruses to your friends. WHy? No idea. They could just go into a chatroom, copy some e-mails and they'll be off. THirdly, its fun. Now do you all see what's going on here? The most likely reason the hacker hacked into your Aim account was because he thought it was FUN. God....the world is really changing nowadays huh? Many years back it was "What's the internet? Is it some black magic?". Today it's more of "Ooo the internet! Let's hack some people!" I just don't believe the society these days and today's hackers. Some day there might be even a "Hacker War"...
