  1. How's the iPhone prices in your country? Over here it costs 4 times the price in the US Nokia and other brands have been giving good competition by providing similar handsets at lower prices. Comparing between Apple and Nokia, I'd say you'll be safe with Nokia, but buying the iPhone is like making a style statement.
  2. Wireless connection is working but wired is not? I haven't heard of it before. Anyway a quick suggestion would be to re-install the drivers provided by Dell. That just might work. And you're saying the cable itself is working fine? Have you tried using another cable for the laptop? Taking it for repair might seem the easiest solution but if you repair it yourself you'll be prepared for such a situation in the future. Keep an eye out of this thread for suggestions from other members.
  3. The last time I posted something in the vent, it was moved to the General Talk forum for some reason. I hope that doesn't happen this time because this is really a venting out of the things that are bugging me right now. Too much of something is never good. Right now I've got too much free time and that's what bugging me. I have a lot of ideas to do something useful with this free time but the problem is that the multiple ideas are confusing me and I don't know which one to do first. I wanted to publish an ebook with Lulu.com - that project's nearing its end but is stuck right now I also wanted to work on my novel which is also stuck midway. I wanted to design a website using only HTML and even started work on it. Then I lost inspiration and I don't remember what its status is right now. I also wanted to create a few tutorial videos for my college- this one's been halted after a quick start too. And right now I'm tinkering with Photoshop but I don't know how long this will last either. So lot of things going on but not one has been going right. I've become too frustrated and am not able to think clearly When I was busy with semester exams I was eagerly looking forward to my free time but now I'm nearing the end of my vacation but still haven't done any satisfactory work. Venting that out helped a bit but I'm yet to find a solution for this situation of mine. Each day is passing by and there's hardly any work being done. I know some of you guys can give great advice but I don't know whether I'll be able to follow it or not
  4. For some weird reason, I've stayed away from learning to use programs like Photoshop, GIMP, etc. even though I had a few chances in the past. Now since I have time to kill, I want to start learning some of the basics, and although I have GIMP, I'm going to use photoshop for a while, because I only have a demo of PS and GIMP stays on forever As soon as I jumped into the PS world all sorts of terms came jumping at me. Although they're perfectly meaningful English words, I'm confused at their meaning in PS So could someone please explain these concepts to me? Much appreciated. What are the "renders" that people keep sharing and why are they so large in size? Why do we need external brushes, and once again, why are they so large in size? While creating signatures, are the main pictures used from an external source or are they designed in PS as well? This is a slightly detailed question - how does one enlarge an image without losing its quality? These are the doubts that sprang to my mind immediately when I started using PS. I've asked the last question because I have a few old photos taken from my phone and I want to enlarge them without losing their original quality. Looking forward to some good advice from our graphic experts
  5. Another bug to report -- sometimes when I use Quick reply and click "Post", the post doesn't get registered and I have to start all over again The page does get refreshed but the post doesn't appear in it. Going back doesn't help either. This has happened to me in two separate instances today. Luckily I hadn't made any big posts or it would taken a lot of time to re-type everything again. Anyone else getting this bug?
  6. Hey how could you forget to thank BufaloHelp, even after he gave you a higher rating than the rest of us! And I should thank you - you've inspired me to try creating a sig of my own. I'm on it. Looking forward to your next work
  7. I don't know how many people out there are watching Wimbledon daily but there's lot of action/drama going on here too like in the FIFA World Cup Yesterday on Court 18, a historic match was played where the two players fought a battle for 11 hours and 5 minutes, spread over three days! John Isner's final score after beating Nicolas Mahut was 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 70-68. I've never heard about these players till now and I guess not many people know them, but now they've earned a place in the record books They played for almost double the time of the previous record (6 1/2 hours) and what's more interesting that the first four sets were finished within 2 hours or so, which means they played a single set for more than 8 hours!!! Can't imagine what it must have felt like to wait 3 days for the result of the match....
  8. The match against Pakistan was really interesting, especially the six by Bhajji in the last over. But did you notice that the whole tournament received a lukewarm response from the nation? I guess people are still down with football fever so they have given second preference to cricket for now! Even the media and news channels didnt focus much on the tournament. Maybe they were just playing it safe.
  9. Doesn't upgrading from a previous version cost much lesser? Around $200-$300 if I'm not wrong.... That's true - and once they've become comfortable with that particular version, they find it tedious to get used to the new version so they're happy with the old version. Oh, and if you remember the name of that guy, do post it over here, coz he seems to have good talent
  10. All this "unexpected" changes are happening after a shaky start when everyone said the world cup was getting boring. Now I'm a little doubtful whether these events have happened on their own or whether there's been something going on behind the scenes. Both the winners and runners-up of the last world cup crashed out in the first stage? That is a very strange thing to happen. Anyway I just hope that these things are happening naturally and there's no drama behind them. Fans like drama but cooked-up drama gets boring after a while!
  11. Hi there havenrealm - welcome to the forums! I just hope you don't get discouraged by the lack of myCENTs right now. Just keep up your post count and soon you'll have a huge stash of myCENTs to buy your website. Just be a little patient and you'll be rewarded well
  12. I too think the team gets lucky most of the time. They do perform well but not well enough to win entirely on their own. It is their opponents' mistakes that usually win them matches In any case since its happening a lot we may just think they're lucky So let's just forget about luck and be satisfied that we've won the cup after a long time. Now the team will start relaxing again so we'd better prepare for defeat next!
  13. Thanks for the quick review, TF! ?So the XP-Office situation is still the same? When I tried to install Office 2007 on my XP machine a year ago, it refused to install. At that time I had Windows 7 Beta and it installed on it without a fuss! So in the case of Office 2010 also we seem to be having a similar situation. Too bad, considering that there are many users still running XP instead of Vista/7.After reading what you've said I think I'm better off sticking to 2007 and Open office for now. There seems to be nothing much special in 2010.....
  14. Lol I was that guest I was automatically logged out and didn't notice it. Thanks for the video. I haven't tried it out yet but I'm sure it'll work just fine A lot of videos on Youtube still show people using CS2 AND CS3. Does that mean CS4&5 have lesser features or is it simply because the people haven't been able to update yet? I still have 4 weeks of my trial of CS5 so I want to learn as much as possible before it expires!
  15. I'm no expert on photoshop so I can't really judge the effort behind making this sig, but as a viewer I'd say it looks pretty slick (not sick ) and neat. The lighting effect around the character's face does appear to be a little too bright, which is why I'll say I'd give this an 8/10. Good work!!
  16. Wow Rick2 certainly has gotten a handful of suggestions. But is this member gonna return? He's got only two posts, and hasn't made a post since 01 June. I hope we haven't lost him. Does that really help? I've heard that service isn't very reliable and it takes you forever to get through? I'm happier solving my problems through forums anyway
  17. made 37 posts today....aah so near to 50 but im out of ideas - goodnight!

  18. I do that "cycle" thingy once every two weeks - I drain out the battery fully and recharge it again. I've read that it is a good practice And yes I'm getting 4 hours of backup on an average. I've put brightness to bare minimum and mostly use the netbook only to browse the net. To be honest, I'll be happy if the netbook lasts for two years (bought it three months back) because then I'll be purchasing a laptop. So if the battery lasts till then I'll be satisfied
  19. Yes now I'm looking at the top of the page to make sure I'm still logged in before replying to any topic. And since no one else has reported the auto-logout today, I think the bug (if it exists) has been quiet. On another note, allowing guests to post in more forums significantly increases the moderators' workload, doesn't it? On an average we're getting 20 posts from guests daily. It takes quite some time to read 20 posts and approve them daily....But anyway, I think this feature has been introduced to encourage more activity in the forums, so I'll be quiet about it. It's a good idea And thanks for disabling flood control. I had to clear cookies thrice today due to that error.
  20. I had to keep the prefix Cricket because I'm not sure how many cricket fans are there in the forum! Besides, it's the football season so most people would be taking about football only. Anyway there are other tournaments going on to (Wimbledon, anyone?) and one of them was the Asia Cup, which ended a few minutes ago with India beating Sri Lanka. This win was pending since 15 years and will surely bring cheer to the millions of cricket fans in India who were terribly disappointed with the team's dismal performance in the recent tri-series tournament. After the match with Pakistan I had a good feeling that we would win the cup - the players always get pumped up after playing against Pakistan
  21. Hey I remember replying here -where'd my post go? Anyway I had just said that when we don't get to buy art, i.e, when we don't possess it, only then can we appreciate its true value. If we manage to obtain the art easily, then we might not be able to realise how precious it is. @wd: Oh and I also said that thanks for sharing is slowly becoming a sort-of catchphrase for you
  22. I use keepvid.com and I've seen a few other similar sites and they all require the Java plugin installated (along with JRE) I think some people don't have this installed on their system so if they're getting any error they should install JRE first and then they can smoothly download the videos @NNNOOOOOO: the site I use gives me good speeds on my downloads no matter how long the video is. My maximum possible download speed is 230kbps and keepvid.com easily gives me around 120-140kbps if I download a single video, and an average of 70-80 kbps if I download multiple videos at the same time. So if you have a faster connection you could get more speed from this site. I don't know if the site has anything to do with the speed (the video is downloaded from youtube's cache?) but somehow this site is faster than the others I've seen.@OpaQue: I haven't tried the site you've mentioned because usually it takes time for the video-mp3 conversion to take place online, right? If I want only the mp3 I simply download the video and convert it offline. I find that it is much faster this way.
  23. Hmm in that case you might try using another messaging client like Pidgin which is much safer and has some better features too. Also you can use all your mail accounts in one client so that saves you the trouble of having multiple message clients like Yahoo messenger, Gtalk, etc.
  24. Now that was quite a useful update (disabling Twitter) but we're still confused about the auto-logout. Now we know for sure that we're being logged out and our posts are considered as guest posts, but is there a solution to fix this logout problem?
  25. I don't know exactly which site was the first to introduce the concept of posting for hosting, but it's obvious that ours is the most popular one among the lot. I doubt whether the remaining sites even survive today. Even if they did, they may be having limitations like the one you mentioned - having ads on the page, etc. So we're with the best - no doubt about that! You'd better watch out - that is becoming something of a catchphrase!
