  1. I might add another question to this topic, what is the first thing that attracts girls or gets their attention about a guy, other than a guys looks?
  2. That thing is really funny, i ought to dress up in a costume like that n scare the family.........just joking.
  3. Hi Matak, personally i would create my icons also, if you feel inclined to have a go, try this link- http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The Gimp/Inkscape are good tools to use (you probably already know, mentioning just in case). If you want to pay for premade sets of icons to save time, try this - http://www.iconshock.com/
  4. Following John Carmack's opinions given at QuakeCon events and various online interviews provides good insight about PS3 vs Xbox 360. Developers have to work twice as hard on the PS3 to produce a game that performs the same as the Xbox 360. Games developed for PS3 can potentially be superior to the Xbox 360, but (from a developers standpoint) you would have to go out of your way to do so. Apparently ID software's new "Rage" is reduced graphically due to the compression required to fit the game on a DVD rather than Blu-Ray disc. It seems to come down to this - when the same game is developed on a 360 and a PS3, usually the result is the 360 game looks graphically superior due to not being a hassle for developers. Saying that, the PS3 has much more potential and Blu-Ray is a definant strong point.
  5. Hi everyone, after an hour search on the net i've come up with following list which could be useful to us - http://www.highprog.com/ https://www.upwork.com/?r http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites https://www.upwork.com/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Please be mindful that I've only given these a passing glimpse before posting here. Most of them are focused on providing work for individual freelancers, but i'm sure if we get our hands a little dirty we could find jobs that can serve our purposes. Just generating ideas..... What do you think? No/Yes.
  6. Although i don't know the details of the the nutrition gained by eating at McDonald's, like most people I would agree its probably not very much at all. For instance the nights I've had McDonald's for dinner i'd wake up the next morning feeling lethargic like i hadn't eaten anything. Due to this reason I try to steer away, always opting for something at home.
  7. Its been about two or three months since incandescent light bulbs were banned in South Australia (I'm not sure about the rest of the states). Personally I don't think there's been much of a fuss due to it, at least not for the household i live in. It would have been nice if we began getting warmer temperature fluorescent globes for our place as we have been getting the cheaper bright blue ones, maybe later.
  8. I like sites which feature white text over dark gray colors (personal preference). But really you could use any set of colors and it will probably look good depending the amount of each color used within the overall composition. You should ask yourself, does a particular set of colors arranged in such a way compliment/enhance the design or metaphor of your site?
  9. The physics aren't too bad in it, although it probably doesn't stand so well with today's games, for its time its physics were one of its strong points (like the way the vehicles handled for instance). I'm not sure, but wasn't it one of the first games to feature bump mapping (I could be wrong on that one).
  10. Usually the process of installing more than one operating system on a single hard drive is always the hardest part. After that everything seems like walk in the park. So long as you don't fiddle too much with the things you have little idea about, OS boot settings, etc, you should be fine.
  11. I bought a second hand IBM thinkpad (Lenovo) a while back and have been quite impressed with it ever since. Its old (2004) but after a couple of upgrades ive found it can do most tasks with ease. My mum has a new Hewlett Packard and i can honestly say i prefer to use the IBM mainly because of the ergonomics, the trackpoint (which i cant go without), and the feel of the keyboard. I'm definitely hooked on Thinkpads. Dell also offers good laptops, my dads work one is older but quicker than my mums (was probably cheaper too, just looks bland though).
  12. I'm definitely 6 i think, i tend to look at the proof/evidence side of things. On one hand 'nothing' within the boundaries of my natural experiences has convinced me there is a god. Although on the other, nothing logically explains the initial creative force behind all that we know (the universe). Sometimes i think i could live easier if i were a 2 rather than 6.
  13. Thanks buherath for the link, i can now read pdf's on the k800, excellent!
  14. Silent hill 3 on PC is my all time favorite game. I found myself fully immersed after the first hour playing SH3, anticipating to be shocked by the next monster found around yet another dark corner. I particularly appreciate the storyline, the polished graphics and the level of character development that this game exhibits. From the screenshots ive seen, silent hill V homecoming also looks good, i would really like to play Jericho as well (story by Clive Barker, the creator of Hellraiser). Ive recently played Undying which features a story by Clive Barker and found it to be very good. This is despite the fact the game was release in 2001 and can have some compatibility issues sometimes. The sound/music in Undying is really good and if you can disregard that fact their are no fancy shaders the graphics are good as well.
  15. Are there any free pdf viewers available for sony ericsson phones? I have a k800, it would really be handy if i could look at bus time tables in pdf format on the mobile, thanks.
  16. I definitely value what online education can offer. After recently taking a course at a technical college (Australian T.A.F.E), i've been put off by the service quality and the rotten attitude of people displayed there. I have since discovered the free computer science courses offered on the Stanford and MIT and count myself fortunate for doing so.
  17. I definitely prefer windows, only because linux based operating systems dont have many games yet (maybe give it a few years). Wine although as good as it is, to me seems like patching the system to enable windows games to work. Hopefully something better will work out for games on linux soon.
  18. To a certain point, i agree with you rvalkass. There has been huge grey area and debate surrounding the causes of global warming for a while, whether its something we are causing, natural cycles or whatever. I think we'll discover a much more concrete indication within the next 30 years as to what is happening. Personally I've chosen to believe that 'we' are the main contributors to global warming, this is what my teacher lead me to believe and also after watching programs such as "An inconvenient truth" further reinforced it for me.
  19. Hi and thanks for the welcoming, ill definitely have a look your suggestion Fractured.Logic regarding the "freelancer's union". There is a skill shortage in Australia at moment of book keepers and accountants, that was my motivation for taking on the course a year ago. I was looking to do payroll work for a small-medium size business, but consequently have found that after finishing the course, it little difficult to find an accountancy firm offering work experience (previous experience is essential if obtaining any job in this area in Australia). Despite this i still remain unperturbed.Apparently one of the advantages of becoming a fully qualified and chartered accountant is you can travel abroad and pick up work in different countries. Despite this really strong point it still doesnt do much to motivate me to study further.
  20. I took a general class in geology a while back and was taught some very interesting facts. (I havent watched the above video), but according to my teacher back then, after many thousands or millions of years the earth goes through a cycle where its magnetic field reverses (north and south switch). After this switch occurs we enter into a dramatic climate shift such as the one that saw the last Ice Age. Apparently scientists have predicted that due to the pollution we have contributed in the last 100 years or so we are increasingly drawing nearer to the next polar shift at an accelerated rate. This is recognized by the marked shift in the way the earths water tides and earthquakes have been behaving. According to the teacher, the next polar shift was suppose to occur some thousands of years from now but because of what we have done and continue to do, it may be hundreds of years. I guess all i can say is if we cant learn by crunch time, when circumstances are totally irreversible, maybe all is as it should be.....
  21. Hi id be grateful if anyone could help. Ive been searching for a computer game called "Necropolis" on the internet for some time with out any luck. It was made about the same time as the "Ace Ventura" and "The Neverhood" puzzle games, probably the year 95, 96 or 97.Every time ive searched all i seem to come up with is games entitled "Necropolis" that were made sometime after the year 2000 and are RPG's. The game was point and click, totally 2d and was set mostly in a dark city landscape. I lent the cd to a friend at the time and have'nt seen it after.
  22. Hi, I'm obviously a new member to Xisto and looking forward to contributing to this unique group. A little about me - well.... Ive had a lot of formal and informal training in IT, so guess i can say I'm experienced. A bit over a few years ago I undertook courses in 3d, multimedia and design which was good for the knowledge, but a lot of work.Ive recently completed a half year course in book keeping, which i was happy with until i began to learn about Tax, which seems just too contrived for me to stay awake (sorry if any one reading this is an accountant). I guess at the moment i have the very loose goal of creating an informative website in my spare time, which i will build upon while consolidating and rehearsing all the stuff i have learn't in IT, design and Accounting over the years.I regard myself as a bit of geek and believe that these posts give an opportunity for me to broaden my scope a little, to engage in other topics more. Thanks.
