  1. To be honest i'm more aware of the influences corporations play onto politics. Things such "Ford" and "Coke" sharing intelligence with america's NSA, or General Motors/oil companies telling the government how it wants the industry to be run (which resulted in the scraped production of the pollution friendly EV-1 to being the production of the Hummer). Which im fairly sure was the result of wrong decisions by the bush government and probably intimidated individuals in the californian government. Maybe taking "NWO" out of any kind of conspiracy context i can relate to this post a little better. Anything where money can be made from and is a necessary commodity for decent human living is breeding grounds for greed, abuse of power and corruption. I think of scandals such as the french water companies that provide water services around the globe where they have evidently engaged in price fixing and political bribery (particularly in privatized regions of south america, where they really messed up).We rely on transportation particularly motorcars (nothing needs to be said about them, or about oil companies). Masses of Food produce from farms get thrown away because foreign governments make bizarre decisions/agreements based on bottom dollar figures. Electricity and gas companies always ensure they are playing a winning game on consumers. It wouldn't be a far reach to think that secretive collaborative efforts and communications exist among the "biggest" players to strategically suck the masses dry and to enforce their will on governments. As the world is increasingly becoming globally tied to each other, it would be reasonable to think the size of this problem is becoming larger. The fact that "banks", are amongst the biggest players pulling strings is new news to me.
  2. Yeah, the last i heard he was the second richest but that was a while ago, now he's third. When you've got as much as they do i guess you wouldn't care. They are not gracious enough to balance out the worlds prosperity though, they really have what it takes to make a difference but they do nothing. 95%?, lets see how much Warren Buffet really donates to charitable organizations in the end.
  3. Welcome wendylady, vertigo? about a year and a half ago i had a week of that living by myself. It's really no good to have. I'd find myself crawling around the house because i constantly felt like i was rushing down some sort of landslide at a 60 degree angle. (it was a flu in my case)My mum had vertigo for a few months last year and seemed to just get used to it. It was bizarre, she was even driving, which i didnt think was a good idea at the time. But my mum doesn't listen much.
  4. Adelaide, South Australia. Reasonably safe country. Government has its issues like any other but doesnt seem to have too much bureaucratic nonsense as others do. Infrastructure such as roads is underfunded. Economy is reasonable (but partially due to us being a hard working country).Multiculturism is highly promoted but we have our share of problems like any other. Its kinda laid back in Australia but then again it depends were you are. People can get a bit agro or display attitude and fight amongst each other, especially towards genX or genY generations.?Since im in the genX category 6.5/10. Its ok, but i dont experience much friendliness here. I'd rather move to someplace in europe (sweden/switzerland) if i could.
  5. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series of books known as "A song of ice and fire" (the series thus far minus "A dance with dragons"). The author in case you haven't heard of him is George R R Martin and his calibre for story writing wouldnt fall far short of Tolkein. The first book takes a while for you to get into, but once in you'll be hooked!
  6. At my old high school half the teaching staff hated their jobs. It wasnt because it was a bad school, but more so a disagreement regarding salary. As a result what we received from them was bland and uninspiring. I remember in my later years in high school discovering that they would often verbally fight amongst each other, particularly after class times. Apparently they had a fridge in the school staff room; which had much more alchohol in it than you would expect. It was unfortunate for a lot of us students to have teachers that couldnt give a hoot.
  7. For the same distance covered, running will burn twice as more fat than walking. If you have the motivation to do so running/jogging is ideal. Though it takes some time to build up enough endurance to run for any length of time. Running puts more impact on the joints such as your knees, so it would be a good idea to consult your doctor first. You'll build up excellent heart health by running or skipping. Also doing "other" some exercises that particularly target the abdominals/obliques would help tone them, which sounds like it might help you in particular. An excellent source of information is to go here - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/richb4.htm This site has a lot of useful information if you can handle the advertising, i just totally ignore it. Somewhere on this site i found a page where it compares running, walking, rowing etc and rates of fat burnt per a certain amount of time. A quick search this time didnt bring up any results.
  8. @ post 50Actually i picked up pentium 4 1.7 with multithreading in 2002, it wasnt the first P4 with multithreading, but anyways.
  9. I know its not offering much new to this topic but for the original stated requirement - "light linux distro, but something decent, that will only run on about 128-256 ram, CPU 1.8GHz, that has office (probably open office or abiword)"Puppy "NOP" really rocks, i have the "wobbly" variation of this which i can customize to include OpenOffice and Abiword (actually something went wrong with Abiword installation on my system). Ubuntu is good, but you most likely wont have an easy time getting it as small as puppy.
  10. Where is the economic feasibility of space travel in general? and what real tangible benefits can we get from it for which we arent obtaining from current research already? It's a spectacular feat for human kind to be able to live on the moon, but i believe it nothing more than a passing interest or at best a potential fad if we are successfull. One of the well known issues in space travel is the loss of bone density from being in a prolonged 0 gravity environment. Creating a centrigal chamber that houses a community sounds expensive. Like or not i reckon where stuck on earth forever, but its nice to dream i guess.
  11. This is an interesting topic. I'd say that to some degree the 'choices we make' and' who we are' is based on life experiences and predisposed actions and inclinations from our genes. But after saying that we can 'mix' things up by conciously making desicions that are the reverse to what we are accustomed to. When i was about 14 i used to do this frequently and it truly does make a difference. I think i'll have to try that out again. (By the way i'm not promoting the idea that anyone engage in radical behaviour).
  12. I never played half life 2 it has never dropped in price much since it hit the shelves, i have never had a "strong" inclination to purchase it anyway. Doom3 was not bad the Graphics were good even on my old Radeon 9600XT but the level design and game script weren't appealing.
  13. I seemed to favor N64 more than PlayStation as a kid mainly because after owning a Super Nintendo i guess they must have impressed brand loyalty onto me. PlayStation was the new kid on the block at the time and had more functions besides playing games, one was the ability to play music.
  14. I brush my teeth once a day, stories such as my dad getting dentures is enough to motivate me to do so.
  15. Personally i prefer the look of "some" Adidas shoes more, but i recognize that Nike make more better looking shoes. In terms of comfort, I'd probably go for brooks which will probably be my next pair.
  16. Ive just purchased CorelDraw X4, it has a lot of useful features that you would expect from professional vector software. On quick inspection i can tell i prefer Illustrator 10's interface (it just seems more logically structured). CorelDraw X4 contains a lot of extra fonts, graphics, etc which is really great. It comes bundled with CorelPhotoPaint X4 which is not bad, kinda reminds me of the same level of functionality as Paint Shop Pro. CorelDraw has a lot of options for printing (id guess more than recent versions of illustrator). I haven't delved into how good the vector pen tools are in CorelDraw, i'm not sure but illustrator seems to be better after a quick glance of CorelDraw. CorelDraw seems to be more accurate, but i've had some quirky behavior saving and reopening files. I'm not sure how exactly i should be saving it, but somehow saving in .SVG or .Ai files changes the DPI so ive found myself fiddling with document properties to get documents back to their right size. (Saving files doesn't seem as easy as it could be)I've found the internet lacking good tutorials for CorelDraw, obviously Illustrator is better for this. You don't see many examples on the net of detailed illustrations created in CorelDraw. CorelDraw's bitmap tracing is good. Its simple, quick and logical to use. Other than that i cant comment much on CorelDraw at this point i purchased it as it was going cheap on eBay but naturally id prefer illustrator.
  17. Yeah he was good, one of the most talented musicians that has ever lived. I think growing up with the media and the attention he had received must have influenced him into his peculiar ways later in his life.
  18. Michael Jackson an alien LOL, that's just preposterous! He kinda reminds you of one though, the stories you here about his nose falling off and what not.
  19. As Kimo mentions above, we are beginning a new project which will iron out unforeseen team related issues for us. If any one is interested please give this a go as this will potentially lead to more profitable uses of your time soon.
  20. Your line quality is really good, as is the background oil effect also. To be honest i reckon you'd be doing better taking the border and solar flare out (just my personal taste). But other than that, well done!.Regarding my concept sketch i reckon ill do a second copy of my original concept (To get the proportions and perspective right). I'll focus on dramatizing the foreshortening for a couple of snakes. But i don't think ill be able to finish fully, too much to do and not enough time!
  21. Ive just completed a quick concept. Its not pushing boundaries by any means, but everything contained within in it relates to the apocalyptic metaphor we discussed earlier. Here is a link - https://get.google.com/albumarchive/106451508184430628055?source=pwa Have you got any ideas you wish to add it? (or stuff you think should be left out?). I didn't want to spend too long on it, as i wanted to keep it well open to ideas. Perhaps we could put an apocalyptic leezard in to go in with the snakes ?
  22. I reckon ill print of a couple of copies of the above pic and do a little conceptualizing. I'm not sure how much I can complete (as time is not always abundant), maybe we could collaborate? I could do some coloring and you could ink it/color it more - in which ever program you'd prefer. Otherwise ill see how much i can up with, using chiaroscuro style artwork. A while ago i used to flick through design and illustration mag's to see what inspiration i could find. In one of them i found an American artist called "Will Crawford" (no relation to me as far as I'm aware) who produced very unique ink illustrations. He formed a style where there were no outlines just hatched lines that described the 'form' of his subjects. I've always found his flamboyant work to be pleasant to look at, especially because i appreciate traditional pointillism artwork (from which his style is derived). His style is more dynamic and free flowing than pointillism however, much like impressionism which is also great. Maybe you might find him interesting inspiration for future artwork also, or perhaps even for this project (if you have the time of course, which might not be the case ). Below are a couple of links, his work is really hard to find on the net which is a pity, maybe you might have better luck if you wanted to try. http://www.americanartarchives.com/crawford.htm /legacy
  23. Although my high school days seemed like so long ago... I can't emphasize enough the importance of high school for young people. When i was attending i used to skip high school often because i was not challenged enough and I hadn't been shown the 'real world applications of what i was learning'. (This is a BIG mistake made in the education system in Australia, at least when i was attending).I soon regretted it, because when i began college I had no confidence due to not successfully meeting many challenges in high school. The first year I attended college was a brain drain because i had to learn what I should have already known from high school. I was fortunate enough to realize the position i was in at 18 and was working hard to turn it all around. When you get a little older (like early 20's) that's when you realize how uncool it is not to give high school your utmost attention.
  24. I began reading the genesis of my brothers bible just out of curiosity, i think after about 20 pages i just put it down. (Please, no offense to anyone that's just what 'I' thought).
  25. Too right, i agree with the comments made by 'networker', unfortunately some people define their happiness by cutting other people down (its just sad for them because they were much better once).
