  1. I use both because Windows Media just takes too long to load. With Winamp you click and its there, WMP takes ages and just annoys me.
  2. If you don't want to download an FTP program then you can create a Network Place, if you are on Windows. Open My Network Places, then click Add A Network Place. Click Next and Next again. Type http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ into the box and click next. Clear the tick next to Log On Anonymously, then type braybrothers into the box and click Next. Click Next again and then Finish. Now all you need to do to transfer files is open the public_html folder by double clicking it and dragging or copy-and-pasting your files across, just like a folder on your computer. Hope that helps.
  3. It sounds great, a mac for $500, but its only got a 40GB hard drive and theres no monitor. Its a great idea if you love macs but can't afford them, otherwise I can't see a reason for it...
  4. I think you would start putting more and more load onto sites that you visit, as you are opening loads of connections at once, so its not a good idea to put it too high.

    Hiyo

Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will find everyone here very welcoming and helpful with any problems you may have. Depending on how large you intend to make your site, you need either 10 credits or 30 credits to get free hosting. Check how many credits you have here. Everyone here is willing to help you and gnerally chat, so welcome to the forums
  6. I tried copy and pasting from Word and it didn't work. You can go higher than base ten as well, think about hexadecimal colours for webpages...
  7. Afetr a weeks holiday I've finally got around to uploading a huge load of fractals to my gallery. I've picked out a few that I would like some feedback on: Fractal 1 Fractal 2 Fractal 3 Fractal 4 Fractal 5 Fractal 6 Feel free to give comments on any of the others if you want, just click the Back To Gallery link at the bottom of any large image, or click here. Thanks in advance.
  8. How did you get a squared symbol??? I couldn't find a button anywhere to do that.
  9. I always try and make all pages by typing them manually, so I know how they work and my memory is kept refreshed. If you use PHP Nuke and install an add-on or something and it doesn't work you probably won't have a clue what the error means, but if you have built your own site you can usually work out whats going wrong.I used to use FrontPage to create HTML, and designed all CSS myself, but the code didn't validate, was confusing and often didn't work in anything that wasn't IE based. Now I'm using PHP as well and it just gets too confusing using lots of software, so I try and write everything myself.
  10. That is a little unfair astraesboi as it is impossible to display the answer on this forum without adding a character for it to make sense. The answer is quite simple: 101-10^2 = 1 Which is the equivalent of: 101 - 100 = 1 The little hat thing (^) means a power, but there is no way on this forum to display powers!! The answer is 101 - 10 squared = 1 When you say you need to shift one of the digits you need to shift the number 2 about half a line up.
  11. OK, if we take the post as being a lamp post, it will be about 15 feet tall, and we will say a shadow of 10 feet long on the ground. A person who is 6 feet tall will therefore create a shadow of 4 feet. If this person is stood 2 feet infront of the post, towards the source of light, they will have 2 feet of shadow on the ground and 2 feet of shadow on and behind the post. The person is wider than the post, therefore the middle section of their shadow will get put onto the post, but the two side bits will fall either side of the post. The post will still create a shadow, as some light can get between the area between the person and the post. OK, that was extremely complicated but I know it works, I tried it with a biro, some tack, my finger and a window
  12. You could buy a CD labelling kit. One of the most popular is called CD Stomper. Have a look for it in a computer shop, they only cost a few pounds and come with about 20 labels and all the info you need, including some software to design them.

    Hi,

As far as I am aware PHP Nuke does come with a Thai language pack as standard. Just change the default language in the administration panel.
  14. OK, my name in Chinese is (supposedly)... Be interesting to see if its correct...
  15. I'm gonna vote for Ralphie. It instantly grabbed my attention and it stood out from the others. Everything seems to fit, yet its all still visible and clear.Johnny - That sig just seems to be lacking something to make it complete.BlaqueMajik - I like the fractals but you've taken off a bit of the mouth on the render, and you spelt 'off' with one 'f', but thats minor.Biscuitrat - The text in the corner is a bit blurred, but otherwise I like it.Luki - The text is hard to read, especially the bottom part of the L on your name.Frozen - Its the text being scattered around, it just looks a little unprofessional and random.Good luck to everyone.
  16. Black and White is a game where you are the God. You have to run a population and keep them alive, while impressing them and fulfilling certain tasks. Unfortunately, like most things in life, it isn't free. I don't think you can play it online either, but its still a good game. It was originally released by Lionhead studios but was bought by Sold Out a while back, at least in the UK. Lionhead Studios Black And White Page The New Black And White 2

    Asp Or Php

I have learnt PHP but not ASP as PHP is easier, more widely supported, works better and its faster. As PHP is free you can install it on your home PC to test scripts and more hosts will support it, especially those with Linux etc servers.
  18. I notice you've used tables to lay out your entire site. It may make life easier but they can be a bit unpredictable and its generally not a good idea. Try and find a tutorial or some info on creating a div-based layout. Next, find a theme for the forum and shoutbox that matches the rest of the site as they both look a bit separated at the moment. I also agree that changing the cursor is a bad idea, it can be confusing and sometimes it won't work in certain browsers. Personally I think that much of the bright orange is a little too much, it hurtts your eyes after a while! Try toning it down slightly or breaking it up by changing the colour of the table. A good attempt for a first try though, 5/10.
  19. Yeah, I've got GMail. You get tonnes of space, it loads quickly and it is easy to use. Used to have Hotmail, but I hated it, so I found myself a GMail invite and got an account. If anyone needs an invite then PM or email me and I will give you one.
  20. Living in Britain technically we are not allowed to keep any form of weapon without licences and stuff like that, which is all too much hassle. Supposedly the law says that if anyone enters your house you can use 'reasonable force' to get them out. You can also use anything that could be found in a 'normal' home to attack them, so I suppose my weaponry comprises of a few kitchen knives, a baseball bat, a tennis raquet, pencils, scissors, a saw...Not really enough to stop anyone.
  21. I don't think students should be strip searched. Dogs checking lockers and bags is fine, but not if the police then go and just chuck everything out to try and find drugs. I keep all my coursework in my locker, as do all the other students at my school and it would be awful if there work was wrecked just for the police to check a locker.I think if they do find anything they should speak to the parents and confront the student when they get home, not at school.
  22. I learned through using the tutorials on W3C, speaking to friends and the ICT team at school and later on looking at websites to see how they worked.
  23. As the credits become days you technically only need to keep it above 0 to have some hosting left, regardless of what hosting package you have. 10 is just advised incase your computer breaks or there is another problem stopping you from keeping the credits up.
  24. Once you have hosting you must remain active. Each day you lose one credit and your account gets suspended or removed when you drop too low. You can remain inactive for the number of days you have left, or your hosting could go. Just check regularly and keep your credits above 10.
  25. You just chat in the various forums to everyone here.If you are looking for free webhosting then you need to get 10 credits. You are awarded credits for every post you make, depending on its length. Then you post in the Hosting Requests board and follow the instructions to get your hosting. If you need more help, feel free to ask
