  1. If possible you should try and quarantine the file, although its most likely any damage has already been done.Check your startup and system processes for anything suspicious, or that you don't recognize...Just scanning your PC for viruses and spy ware would be a good move!Often a file cant be deleted because its in use, so its possible it contains a client which a virus is using to send information about your computer and what you use it for to a remote server...
  2. I agree, Its like censoring real life...It gets to the point, where no-one has seen anything or knows anything, to such an extent, that everyone is just, a blithering idiot! There is no point stopping people (for instance children) seeing or hearing "bad" things, there aonly going to see them later in life, and wonder why they never knew!
  3. There is a standard javascript method for pre-caching images.... cant remember what it is. but like someone sad above, one way is to have a 1px one somewhere, so it loads with the page... you could even hover a div over a few 1px images, or arrange them as some kind of image...
  4. Well, the backgrounds do work with the foreground image. And, although simple, they do look ok. They would be good as web graphics as they have a solid background colour...there arent any bad looking parts or bits where there are random hard edges. There not bad for a first-time image...
  5. I find it hard to fill 100GB in a year, I dont think anyone could use 10TB without trying very hard for a long time, with a fast internet connetction, and a lot of full DVDs. But 3000TB would just be stupidly large, who could possibly fill it up? Although research like that is useful, as it would be good it they made smaller ersion like 20TB, which would bo more than you would ever need but not quite as extreme as 3000TB!
  6. Well, I think, in that situation, I would go to local hospital, and haver them contact a police dept which isn't involved, and have THEM figure out how to remove the device safely! In the mean time, I would leave the cheque, as I would not want to be involved in that kind of activity, But I may, if i though i had to, find the microchip in the cheque, and hand it to someone in a bank, to get rid of the device...Pretty obscure/impossible situation though
  7. My favorite is the ironkey. It is the most secure flash disk in the world, and one of the fastest secure drives. It has build in hardware encryption, which CANNOT be disabled by ANY malware, and if it detects an attack, it destroys the data and the drive permanently. It arrives without pre-installed encryption keys, but generates them on first use.It destroys itself and the data it hold after 10 consecutive wrong password attempts. Its even resistant to attacks with things like electron microscopes because of a thin film on the inside which breaks if electric energy like the type a microscope emits is detected. Its control panel is very nice, as it allows you to put a lost and found message, so you can say where to return it to if found...It has firefox installed, with built in TOR which runs internet access through secure ironkey servers, as well as having a nice built in password manager so that key loggers cant take your passwords. It has a built in feature to generate encrypted backups which can be un encrypted by a new ironkeyIt uses dual channel ultra fast storage, to make it fast and reliable. It has an online feature for declaring your ironkey as lost, and for recovering lost passwords...It has built in software encryption which always runs.It has a firmware update function. It is very strong, as it is made from a think alloy designed for the ironkey, as well as everything being cased in a epoxy based potting compound, so that trying to break into it, will destroy the hardware. It has its own unique serial number printed on the back, as well as a signature panel so you can tell if your ironkey has been swapped for a fake.I have no real need for one, I just bought one because I thought it would be a a cool memory stick! They are quite expensive, with the 8GB model retailing at ?220!
  8. one easy way, is to just insert the windows disk, then when it boots to disk format the drive (obviously this will delete everything, so back up everything you need)Then it will give you the option to partition the drive, and it can be partitioned into many many partitions, of any size above 8MB.There is lots of software out there that is available, however ive never tried any of it, so I wont try to recommend any!
  9. If the drive is physically worn out or damaged, you should not attempt to use it, or recover it with commonly available software, or that could make it impossible to restore the data...If the data is very important, you should send it to a data restoration lab. This can be quite expensive, but, presuming you use a good one, will have experienced staff, who can remove the data from the drive, and send it to you.If the data is important, its the best step you can take.It is best not to try to restore it yourself, as this could damage it further, and beyond the point where data can be restored.
  10. Well, there are ways to stop it happening, but it is not a good idea, for a start, it is always good to have some spare space (Microsoft recommend 200MB for windows XP) to keep everything running smoothly, applications often write temporary data, or smaller files which do add up.The best thing to do is to - get rid of one or more applications you dont use - transfer some files to other storage - compress stuff you rarely use - delete files you no longer need (like music you no longer listen to, or video files you no longer watch)Another thing you could do, is backup some things online, try windows live skydrive, they offer a free 5GB online storage space with all LIVE accounts!
  11. In the case of a damaged disk drive containing important data, you should never attempt to use it, or restore it with commonly available software, the best thing to do, is to send it to a data restoration lab, as soon as possible, who may be able to restore the data, but in many cases, for a large price!
  12. I dont think that these schemes mean its not possible to trust your doctor. They are medical professionals, and would not prescribe a drug which would do you any harm, or which obviously have no effect. And many probably wouldn't take part in that kind of thing, as surely, if they were found to be prescribing the wrong drug deliberately for an incentive, then they would surely see some nasty consequences. And just because they have an incentive to prescribe a certain drug, doesn't necessarily mean they will over-prescribe it, they may only prescribe it when necesary, and still receive the prizes after a longer wait...
  13. Wow, thats kinda interesting...I always thought that yawning was because of there not being enough oxygen in the air - this also explains why yawning is contagious! Although i suppose the newly found reason explains that too!
  14. Well you should try to keep it simple, just text and links as much as possible. You should have links to your legal and privacy policy pages if you have them. Then you should mention the person who designed the site, and link to their own site if possible, you should note any copyright ownership of the page, and if you need to, a page last edited line. You may also need to acknowledge, if you have used someone else's trademark or copyrighted material, that you are not the owner. Notice from truefusion: I don't think zach101 visits anymore.
  15. Well, its not a great resolution, in fact, you can get better resolutions from monitors made 5 years ago...However, most people dont use a higher resolution, but its always nice to know you can...
  16. I would suggest, if you want the best for your money, just buying the parts and assembling it yourself, then you can use things like case, PSU, case fans, optical drives, as spares in a new computer, or use some instead of buying new parts. If you buy the parts separately (or just dont customize a pre-made model) you can choose from a much larger range, as when you custom build a pre-made model, the quality is set, for instance, if you want to buy a compute for music, so you want a good sound card, but you dont care about graphics, you would have to buy an expensive model, and end up with an expensive GPU etc, just to get the sound card. There are numerous guides on the net, to buying and assembling a custom built PC, and, in the end, its cheaper - you dont pay for what you dont need, or for assembly, or for the name. And it runs the way you want it to, because you dont have to buy good everything, just to get one part that is above the standard of the rest. Now, everything is made so that it iis easy to assemble, so anyone can build a computer!
  17. I am currently buying parts for a new custom computer, and i am taking care to get lots of cooling, so that it doesn't overheat. I have bought a couple of coloured fans, I just bought them because I may use them, otherwise, they look ok sometimes, and there quite cheap anyway... I just bought them because its something to laugh at for 5 minutes before it gets boring!Although, some of the lights are quite useful, especially while building the computer, as it allows you to see if there is anything inside the computer obstructing airflow, or stopping the fans turning!
  18. Sounds like a problem with your motherboard, if you have recently added new hardware, then it is also possible that the power supply unit you are using is not powerful enough. One way to find out, is to unplug everything but the essentials, and remove any un-needed expansion cards, then try booting. otherwise its most likely the motherboard!
  19. Its not working for me - I got an error!Make sure you have set up the add od domain settings right - check that the file/folder it points to exists etc.
  20. In the UK, everything is automatically copyrighted, however, you cant easily prove that you are the owner of something - Which is really the big problem in web! With scripts, style sheets, and HTML, you cant really say you are the original owner, because, chance is, several other people have all written the same script in the same way, and there is no way of proving who did it first, also, it is so eay to take them, as they are available to the browser, and thus, available to anyone who accesses the site! However, server side is another story, you have you have to gain access to a sites files to see its PHP source code. Although, the who made it first problem still exists, however, with larger websites, with huge PHP files, it would be hard for someone who had taken the source code to say that it was just by chance, that their code was exactly the same!I think all clientside code should be free to use, with no ownership, as there ois relatively no way to prove who did something first, and then you cant stop people using it, the internet is too big! - also, you'd end up with people claiming to be the first people to make an alert with a button or something stupid! But clientside, given that it is used in huge web applications, and cannot be easily accessed by anyone who doesnt have the relevant passwords, should have a good system for protecting the copyright of the code...
  21. That looks really good! The colours all work really well, and the general look of the site, is quite professional, and clean!5 hours is quite a long time to spend on a fairly simple stylesheet, but if you havent done much site design before, it gets easier as you become fluent, and then you can make stylesheets in minutes! The one thing I would say about that is: the design has lots of background images, this means, especially on slower servers, the page takes a long time to load; more than visitors want to wait! You should try to use textures where possible (repeating graphics which repeat across an entire section, for instance, a 2px x 100px downwards texture for a header)
  22. Lots of people spend ages trying to make really impressive stylesheets, not realising, that simple is often better,For a start, it uses less bandwidth, as you dont have a huge stylesheet, for every possible eventuality, and hundreds of different DIVs.Look at google, its plain white with a logo in the middle, and the logo is just text most days! And yet google is the most accessed page in the world! When I make sites, I try to use a PHP stylesheet, which just uses a single colour to generate the rest of the stylesheet, so it just lightens and darkens the colours to make the stylesheet, and using different shades of the same colour often looks really effective! Also, this makes it very easy to have a few buttons for changing the colour scheme, as you just have to send the server a single 6 digit number to generate the stylesheet from!
  23. I looked around for ages, trying to find a good free web host. Truth is, theres is no such thing....Xisto is close, but its not free free, it just doesn't require payment. In the end, I just bought web hosting, with pretty much unlimited everything, and it only cost me ?30... And I haven't changed hosts, paid hosting is quite cheap if you go to the right place, and its often very much worth it.The thing is with free hosting is, theres always a catch. Some its adverts, some its no server side, some its very limited space or bandwidth, some it tries to sell you a paid product after a few months., In my opinion, its easier to go with cheap paid hosting.Although, Xisto is brilliant, it is paid hosting!
  24. Well, i prefer to save it on my computer, then save it to my FTP. But another good way, is to edit it using Cpanels code editor. Then you just click save, and refresh the browser page to see the effect. However, this does have its disadvantages, like, you can only have on one instance of code editor running, and if you make a mistake and save it, you have no backup (obviously you can avoid this by just backing up every now and then)There are also some web editors which have built in PHP interpreters.
  25. Gmail is brilliant! And it has gtalk intergrated which is really useful when i have just reinstalled windows and want to talk without installing the client. Also, it works with the google account, which you can also use with the online office software and many other Google services!Go gmail!
