  1. Maybe it's my laptop but looks like the original picture just had the color balance and contrast enhanced.I was looking for maybe lighter eye color, like light blue. Or, even yet a dramatic change to deep crystal blue. One of my tattoo artists does this: he places his copyright like a tattoo on the body using photoshop. I thought it was a cool little trick. He bends and adds to the curvature of the location on the body. Your copyright or watermark would look good by her left arm, running down Who knows.
  2. It's always the case isn't it? It's those few who cannot appreciate what is meant to be a privileged, and spoil it for the rest of us.I, too, have seen so many "idiots" on the road and share so many of you's point of view. Just because you can walk and chew at the same time it does not mean you can talk and drive at the same time. And adding texting while driving? Holy lord all mighty, Huston we have a problem. Driver's Education constantly promote driving and taking your eyes off the road for more than 3 seconds can cause serious accidents. Therefore, even adjusting your radio is strongly discouraged while driving. How long these idiots take eyes off the road while driving? I don't even want to know. It's gut wrenching to think I am driving among these people. People forget that driving is a privilege, not a right. And when you drive a car you are moving an item that nearly weighs a ton. And when you wave an object that weighs a ton you are threatening others with a weapon. People get prosecuted for waving a knife at another person. An object that weighs a ton...? Just a slap on the wrist. We share our highways and roadways with others. Some of us forget to share nicely. I wouldn't want to share the road with someone who disregards my safety. And so, even though the rest of us can do things safely we have to lower our standards to lowest common denominator by restricting ALL to ban texting while driving.
  3. I was going to suggest if you were savvy enough to do all that, try taking out the laptop hard drive and use it like an external hard drive (with hard drive to USB drive kit).Copy all files for safe keeping and then reformat your laptop. In the mean time, while reformatting your laptop, you can work to recovering files you copied from the previous task. But, looks like mtrcyclgrl has everything under control.
  4. Holy Jebus you guys have been busy! I go away for a week and fire all my secretaries come back to Xisto and you guys are almost done? I tell ya you guys don't need me Sorry folks. 6. Not so long ago I purchased Logitech's wireless keyboard and mouse combination. Model EX110 is the combination I purchased. I have been using it at one of my workstations and have been fairly satisfied with the product. Nice soft keyboard action, smooth but precise mouse movement and good signal reception considering that I have so many things around this workstation.A week ago my keyboard stopped working. I cannot say what caused it but all I know was certain key groups were not working. Groups like ASDF, JKL; all side number pads, couldn't use left side shift, control, alt etc.Faced with few possibilities I decided to call the tech support. I went to the website and all I found was non-800 number. I'd figured I had nothing to lose I called and waited. The reason I was prepared to wait was because we all have been there: "We are experiencing unexpected amount of calls and your call will be answered by one of our customer agents in X number minutes.""Thank you for calling Logitech. Please chose from the following menu..." Just 4 clicks later, I was talking to a customer agent. Yes, a live customer agent! I couldn't believe it. The customer agent asked me few questions like when I purchased, if I registered the product, my model number, product ID number, my operating system and what's the problem. After explaining my issue the customer agent wanted to walk though just few steps. She asked me to run the software that was installed and asked me to perform few steps. After which, she concluded that it was a hardware failure and asked me if she can send me a new one as a replacement. A replacement? What now? I have never experienced this quick turnaround with a warranty department. She also asked if the model EX 110 is not available it would be alright to send the next version in the similar product. "Sure" I said! Twist my arm and try to give me a new and updated keyboard and mouse. An email arrived the next day my item was shipped. The email provided with a tracking number which was scheduled to arrive the following Tuesday. I called Logitech on Tuesday, just before Christmas. Can I say, WOW??!! With the product support like this, how can I NOT go with Logitech next time? This one, maybe insignificant call, has made me Logitech user for life! And you know the best part? While I was on the phone with the agent I jokingly said, "you are awesome! I really appreciate taking care of my issue this quickly." And she replied, "oh that's no problem. We are here to satisfy your experience with Logitech." How cool was that?
  7. I believe somewhere along the line, religion but not just religion itself, it's those who used "religion" or "in the name of god" to create supplemental laws to have dominance over females. It's the master-slave relationship. It's the god-mortal connection. And along the line men placed themselves equal to a god's level.Whatever your religion may be I think we are all familiar with the role of man and woman because they are stated in respected religion's book. And the physical attributes of man further solidified what would be self-fulfilling prophecy: man are stronger thus they are better adapted for hunting and gathering food. And I'm thinking along the line it went something like this, "man are stronger thus will hunt and gather food and should rest for the next day's hunting. Therefore, woman will tender to man's needs to ensure survival."Sounds pretty ridiculous, I know. So is the mentality that man are suppose to do this and woman are suppose to do this. When a culture is built on a belief that man is bread winner and woman is family nurturer, it's inevitable to pass down the formula that works to raise a successful family. What it should have happened is that attributes that made each sex to be better at things should have been taught to "complement" the other and unite to create something better, like better family. Instead of focusing on each other's role there should have been the focus on role to bring better next generation. The role should have been established as the building block rather than the final result. But, the phrase gender equality cannot comprise the whole aspect for all genders. Obviously man cannot give birth. A man can protest and cry to have equal in giving birth process but physically a man is incapable to do so. A woman cannot build up muscles to sustain physically enduring labor for the rest of her life. I'm not talking about some women who are strong, I'm talking about woman as whole. But a man can tougher physical work longer. You get the general idea. So, in the age where hard physical labor is not necessary the main life sustaining means, "gender equality" questions the role which man and woman play. I believe, if man and woman were "raised" properly, then a man would come home, say hello to his wife, tell his kids he loves them, take out the trash, perhaps fix the squeaking door, help with meal menu, brings out plates and sit down with his family for a nice conversation and reflection. A woman would have started her day with her kids or go to work, pickup some grocery for later day's meal, show much affection to kids, teach them in subtle way about love and family, welcome her husband, sit down with her family for a nice conversation and reflection. It's not that each has specific duties through out the day but that whatever they may do it was all about bringing and enjoying as a family. And the gender gap would not be as great as one might think because a man would be inclined to find a woman who is independent, strong yet able to work as a team in raising a family. A woman would also look for the same and participate in the same family establishment. The two would be aiming for the same goal. They may be divided in terms of contributing different components to complete the puzzle, but both happily contribute because they both want to obtain the same goal. However, decades, centuries and millenniums of arrogance that man is this and woman is this... what you are end up is what you see today. Women are consistently paid less than men. Men are shoved into a role of working hard, earning the money to feed the family. While men are at work women are left with cooking, cleaning, raising children and tender to men from their hard days at work. Men must show little emotion to display tough exterior. Women must show tenderness. And goes on and on and on... While many have broke free from this stereotype it will be long before every one is free. But it's also misleading that breaking free from this stereotype is a good thing.I believe everyone has a role to play in his or her life time. And finding the complementing opposite partner is part of playing this crucial role. Then maybe we can see some equality.
  8. When you post facts and figures be sure that your source is correct and that you are not isolating any group and infer any stereotype/prejudice remarks. Just on the ethics side, who are the real blames the uploaders or downloaders. Or, does it even include people who knows Pirate Bay and what it can do? When you point a finger know that there are 3 other fingers pointing back at you. To pass judgment on just one country is saying your country has no fault at all. If you ever used torrent or other P2P, stream a media and saved for your later viewing or captured/downloaded an image or media without the author's consent you too are guilty of piracy. Getting back to the above quote, if we are enforcing piracy for China we should also enforce people who use China as an escape goat and download as well. Punishing uploaders are just not enough--there should be a same consequence to those who download as well. It's a simple supply and demand. If there's no demand then there shouldn't be ample supplies. However, by no means this excuses China for disrespecting copyright laws. In the age of internet you seriously cannot hope that "it doesn't come to the UK." Piracy is not a disease that you catch because it's widely spread. Piracy is not a fad where people try things during a phase. And last I checked, Italy was pegged as number 1 on PayPal's list on scams. Germans were noted and credited for hacks and hackers. Almost all warez sites are German based because hosting warez with German hosting is not illegal yet by that country. Iran and Iraq hackers are most well known for internet defacing. Piracy will always exist as long as there are companies who want to control the distribution and demand money. If DVD movies were made affordable, everyone can afford to buy one, would you think people will look for ways to get it for free or next to nothing? Would you spend 5 hours downloading a movie when you can go out and own a real copy for $3 dollars? Would you spend even few hours downloading an operating system ISO with key generator if you can pickup a legitimate copy for $5 dollars? The legitimate copy will have full tech support where the pirated copy will not. So which one people will choose? Furthermore, piracy will always exist because people demand higher, quality product. And to produce quality product you have to pay or reward those who develop. And the price for obtaining quality products is not going to be around $5 dollar range. And this is why piracy will always exist. France passing their new internet law is the first step in organizing means to piracy. Internet simply replaced mail order catalogs and shipped processed orders. People still can get pirated products simply by opening the right catalog book and sending the payment. To think that internet should be controlled is foolish. But having a law that makes internet user accountable for their actions is step towards the right direction. I believe that the way we consume the internet is just as responsible, important as how people fill the internet.
  9. web_designer,Please post your topic in the correct part of our forum. All hosting supports are in the Support section.First, always refer to Xisto Readme (either in my signature or on top of the shoutbox). Xisto Readme contains basic information about the forum, forum rules, hosting, various hosting related key information and hosting rules. There are few reasons why you cannot "start" your hosting with a domain name you already own. They are 1) your domain registrar has locked your domain and did not authorized for transfer 2) you have your nameserver set to other than Xisto - Web Hosting. Please change your nameserver to Xisto - Web Hosting and try again. Nameserver information can be found in Xisto Readme. When requesting for support, please explain in detail steps you haven taken from start to finish. Whenever possible provide screenshoot(s) for illustration.
  10. web_designer,Please use Xisto Readme for all basic information regarding our forum and hosting. You probably couldn't transfer your domain name to xisto due to 1) your current registrar has not authorized you to transfer your domain, 2) your domain nameserver is not set to Xisto - Web Hosting.
  11. Placing a background image is not just PHP programming. This is a basic HTML coding or CSS coding. Since your site is open source os commerce, look for in stylesheet.css related to body or background. Place CSS code body {background-image: url('image/location/name.ext');} There are other settings that background-image use such as repeat or no repeat, background default color, margin etc. Look up this property and apply them correctly. Also, since your site uses table, be sure to attribute table correctly. Otherwise, you'll have white blanks where table is shown.
  12. k_nitin_r, The misconception you have is that you're sending an email to a phone. No. The concept is that SMS works just like email service. When you send a SMS form phone to phone, the gateway is already filled in by your service carrier. For example, when a phone A sends SMS to phone B, the carrier of phone A translates handle, phone A's phone number and looks for carrier of B. So, you never notice the difference because you are simply sending SMS to a phone number. But the whole magic happens in the background. This SMS gateway information were not made public before because too many people can exploit the privacy issue. I can write a script starting with 1112223333@sms gateway, generate loop and send massive SMS spam starting with 1112224444@sms, 1112225555@sms etc. But this information is not a secrete either. So SMS gateway lists were published. So the term SMS Gateway is misused, it seems. Here is a quick illustration The image above labeled "centralized SMSC" is SMS Gateway--not the websites which offers the ability to send SMS form web to a phone. And the way centralized deciphers incoming SMS and relaying SMS to the destination is the same as how email servers operate. They look at the user name (your phone number) and authenticates as the sender. Looks for the destination with user name (recipient's phone number) at which domain (or the destination carrier). The way to identify the carrier is by searching the database with prefix registration. All numbers follow the simple format: country code, area code, prefix and suffix. The "prefix" identifies the range owned by a certain carriers. for example, in US, in area code of 716, prefix 510 is owned by Verizon. And so naturally, if I send SMS or email to 7165105555 will have vtext.com as its gateway. 7165105555@vtext.com And when you send SMS from phone to phone, "@vtext.com" is omitted because the service provider fills in automatically (background magic). To suggest that you can send SMS without this gateway, as in direct P2P like connection, requires knowing ESSN hex number, dial and capture it's encrypted key and display a message. This as been carefully protected by all cellular phone service providers. Because, knowing how to do this you can clone the phone and use it without paying for the service. This is also false. They may not publish it publicly but I read it somewhere that ALL SMS systems are designed the same way. It's the foundation how SMS works. Therefore, you cannot eliminate the gateway and still deliver SMS. Because that's how all SMS providing carriers were built. How MMS sends and deliveres are a different story.
  13. One of my secretaries was smoking this e-cigarette for past 3 days. Yesterday, just before we parted for the New Year, she complained about her throat being soar. And so I asked her if the pain started when she started to use the e-cigarette. She thought for a moment and agreed that her pain started when she switched to the e-cigarette.I don't know what generates the "smoke" from the end as she puffed but I would imagine it's not healthy. She had filters that was with a little amount of nicotine and one without nicotine. It's designed her to have the sensation of smoking a cigarette but without inhaling harmful toxins caused by burning tobacco leaf/chemicals. But what if the substitutes of the real thing is actually causing more damage? The idea is always good, but to substitute nicotine, tar and other chemicals, new chemical is introduced in the disguised form of e-cigarette. By the end of the day, she lost her voice and couldn't let any work out of her mouth. It really worried me to see 3 days of smoking e-cigarette lead her to lose her voice. That's some serious side-effects.
  14. It seems like I'm making the same resolution year after year. And by now I don' think mine is considered new year's resolution anymore... It's more like the resolution that I never accomplished and just now getting to it. HA HA HAAs I age and just piled with stress, I find myself eating a lot especially at my desk. Long hours of sitting and just being immobile I have gained substantial weight that I must lose to keep my figure :)And to achieve my resolution I need to do combination of things. To lose some weight I must sleep on time, do not snack after dinner, watch my meal portion, what what I shove down my stomach, don't use food as stress relief, ... ... ... well you get the idea.I feel that my metabolism is not what it used to be. I feel growing each time I eat. My belly gets bigger, bigger, bigger and it won't go down. Let this year be better than years before.
  15. If I understand your question, you want to send SMS directly to a phone without going through SMS Gateway? That is not possible. Because, you need the gateway to relay the message. You cannot create your own gateway because you are not a cellular phone service provider. If you are, then it's no problem. It's like you want to send an email to an address, someone {at} gmail {d0t} com without sending to Google's mail server. And send directly to the recipient. No email will be delivered. But, if you meant how to send SMS to someone without going through other sites that can SMS for you (as in you bypass their server and send directly from yours to someone's cellphone) then the formula is very simple. In United States, the SMS works just like email so that: 1112223333@sms gateway . ext For example, you want to send SMS to phone number 111-555-1212, you simply send email with your SMS text to 1115551212@{sms gateway} And the list of SMS Gateway can be found in Wiki. For an example, Verizon is vtext.com. So that the final address to be used is: 1115551212@vtext.com Send your email to the SMS address in plain text with maximum characters up to 160. The recipient will receive SMS on their phone and the sender will show your email header's "from" For the complete list of SMS Transits http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And if you know your modem commands to send email form a command line, just mail to the above format and see your SMS go through.
  16. I was always fascinated with Star Trek The Next Generation. I remember trying not to miss a single episode to have the chance to see various gadgets they pretended to use. One of the desirable gadgets was the hand held reports in the form of tablet but it's only the size of 4X6 or 5X7. A web tablet is a good comparison to today's actual gadget. That's what iPod Touch reminds me. iPod Touch's ability to surf the web, zoom in and zoom out, store and retrieve information in the size of hand sized device. It's one step closer to "the next generation" of data storage and consuming information. There are many personal media players out there. Some are exceptionally well thought out in constructing these devices. But iPod Touch does one more--web browsing. And soon I'm sure this will lead to even greater advance in technology. And talk about built-in accelerometer... so many application utilize that even now.iPod Touch, hands down for now!
  17. xpress Happy New Year to you!!! What are you doing up this late, or early??

  19. Advertising your blog with adwords or Yahoo's publisher isn't probably the best way to start...I'm guessing. So the good old fashioned link exchange with other blogs and bloggers who share similar interest or topic would be the place to start.Visit blogspot.com or other popular blog places and request the admin for link exchange. You never know. Secondly, if your blog also deals with the place you live in, like reviews of your local town restaurant, your voice on local politics etc, go to your local websites and ask to like your blog. Many city websites will allow you to place 1 classified or directory listing for your "business," even though it's not. But hey, they list and it's all good.Speaking of local, I recently designed a local restaurant's website. I went around adjacent towns and asked if they wouldn't mind hanging out some flyers for this website. Of course I didn't ask other restaurants to advertise for this website. But like community centers with free bulletin boards, banks, grocery checkout stands. The flyer also included the website address where give an email address to access 20% off coupon. The idea was to create mailing list and in return a coupon as a thanks. And next thing you know the restaurant owner said the business rose 30% within days. And the email list can be used for monthly newsletter, coupon alerts and special menus.Maybe you can involve your community to join and follow your blogs. Link to your twitter and facebook account to let others know. Be diligent with fresh blogs and clever views. The last thing you need is dull information and stale contents. You have to be able to sell your idea to others within seconds. If you are a craigslist user, you can join craiglist's forum and promote your site. Encourage other forum participants to join your blog and put comments on your site. Keep it open and easy at first so that visitors are not obligated to "register" before commenting. You can worry about spammers afterwards.
  20. I'm going to meet with a consultant tomorrow on my own HIPAA compliant programming. I'll ask and see if Rx is or is not part of HIPAA.I've been programming my own script trying to cater to smaller pharmacies across the country. Basically web to IP fax using equipments they already have. I hope to bust these expensive programmers who are charging ridiculous prices to doctors and pharmacies. And I met so many resistances along the way I feel like I can write a book just on what I cannot do
  21. Sometimes I thank god that I didn't know any better when I started to learn web programming. Linux and Apache were just given to me and I had to learn "it." But looking back it was the blessing in disguise.Apache is a wonderful web server. And Apache and Linux being 99% free, instead of costly Windows OS with clunky IIS, it's so much easier to acquire and develop web pages. But I guess people who paid for Windows server have to stick to it to show cost to benefit numbers. I sometimes feel sorry for corporate purchasing guys.Okay then. Topic is resolved and closed. Please PM any moderator to continue this discussion. Until then, this topic is closed.
  22. Alright I will admit, too. It was a good movie in the sense that I had hard time figuring out which was animation and which was the real thing during some of the scenes. Beside the blue skinned being, which I know they were clearly the animation or CGI, when the helicopters were firing at the giant tree, I was very impressed. But is it me or the film was way too political than it should have been? Why is that Hollywood likes to promote the myth of native peoples beating back capitalism? You have the underdog, the down and out, the unfortunate overcoming obstacles that seems nearly impossible. Yet, somehow these meek group find the way to triumphant! And was I the only one who felt uncomfortable that a man, after embedding to the native people (I think it's na'vi forgive the spelling if I'm wrong), turns against his own kind very violently. I mean bad are bad but to kill your own brother after serving the military himself? Isn't that bit extreme? I heard a young kid saying, "how come he has to kill our soldiers?"Through out the movie I just couldn't overcome the fact that creatures with that big of eyes should be nocturnal--half cat half humanoid. And the native people had cultures, if you can call it, similar to Native American and features similar to African tribal-men. Is that why the accents reminded me more of Africans than anything else?
  23. Moving to The GFXTrap Forum - Xisto Graphics Site ? Graphics Crew ? Current ProjectsI'm thinking this should be where all GFX Crew can discuss and respond.Regarding moving GFX section.OpaQue decided to arrange the forum and sequence as what we see now, probably with a good reason. And so I cannot really move the topic without his consent. But moving the forum around isn't that difficult. But OpaQue is the master at SEO and everything, I mean everything he does for this forum is all about SEO first. So I'm sure he has a good reason why he has the way it is. (Confusing much? )
  24. There is such thing as over coding. I'm pretty sure less than 10% of web surfers are still using IE6. It's time to upgrade to IE7, if you still can find the download. Yahoo did a wonderful job alerting and converting just about every user to IE8. And before I eat my words, I did some research and see the result of web browser trend http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/default.asp I was off by < 2%
  25. Whatever the CMS you are integrating, make sure that someone can design the skin. It's all good and nice when you talk about this is better, that is better, but when no one can design a spiffy looking skin it's all worthless. People who talk a good game often cannot finish the job.Again, whatever you guys decide KEEP IT SIMPLE. Let's not design half working or half good looking skin for Wordpress, drupal or other CMS. And mentioning my first decision to go with flatfile CMS--it's NOT mySQL dependent. Remember, gfxtrap.com is also hosted with free hosting account servers. That means there's going to some down time. Majority of times SQL may be down but HTTP request are still accepted. This keeps the uptime higher than of SQL based sites. It's a strong suggestion but not the final solution. Just keep that in mind. You may choose any CMS as you wish. But if you cannot redesign skins for that CMS let's not use that CMS. And purchasing the skin is not an option right now because I don't know who's going to pay for it Honestly, if you are going to purchase a "theme" then why have GFX Crew?
