  1. I would have said completely different things, but yeah if you think of what you really use the most I am going with: MSN Messenger: I cannot find a free alternative to this, that connects to the MSN network and has a better look/feel and memory footprint, and also not heaps buggy (like GAIM and things). I use 7.5 personally, as I do not like the Windows Live one and it never used to work for me period. FireFox: Been using it for a couple of years now, IE is a bit of a pain and Opera never went down well with me, so FF it is. WMP, MPC and VCL: The three media players I have been using a combination of for years now, if one doesn't work for something, almost always one of the other two will. I could list quite a few more, but I think that is enough lol, and the primary ones I use very often.
  2. That's a pretty cool idea, and although I am not a fan of FarCry, it'd feel pretty cool playing that game while sitting in a tree house like that lady is lol.And those Castles are wicked, they look like they been around for awhile, it's hard to imagine just what things really looked like back then for people (back when those Castles weren't so antique).I also had a tree house once, if I remember correctly, but I also fell 5ft+ out of one and landed right on my butt (and that hurt like hell), stupid tree was full of bee's >_<.
  3. It would be good if you added an alternate explanation of how you would build the database/tables(s) through the interface method of phpMyAdmin (rather than executing a direct mySQL query). Just a thought .Ummm self refreshing shoutboxes, I think mine does that, or maybe it refreshes the page, I can't remember exactly but it updates pretty much on the fly.
  4. I did mention that I tried putting the old icon back didn't I lol? (not sure if I did indeed mention that or not, was awhile since I made this thread). And I don't have any Windows Updates on that installation, I normally cripple those background services, as to not waste my bandwidth unless I feel that I need the update.
  5. Yeah, but a lot of the people that migrate here (not all of them, that would be silly to assume but, but I can almost guarentee a considerable amount, I won't be too specific to take it loosely), not only purposely evade taxing, and benefit laws (so they can get government benefits, work cash in hand AND pay no taxes), they huddle up with between 6 and 20 people in a 3 bedroom house (in-fact the neighbours next door and right behind me, do just that). But also, it's the quality of there work that poses a problem, especially with some migrant business owners (or rather a lot around here) *shouldn't* even pass OH&S checks but somehow do.The same could be said for some aussies here definitely too, but there so easy to pick out it's nearly a joke.I mean fair enough, there smart enough to huddle up (although in some instances it is illegal to do so, concerning children and there sex/age as well as the limit of people in 1 home and claiming how many are actually there). But this really screws the individual who doesn't now have everything behind them (too young or missed out), and that includes migrants/immigrants w/e.There's also the problem of local or otherwise authorities ignoring these and other problems with some specific backgrounds because there afraid of racial backlash (and frankly I don't blame them), so they get to carry on and more will continue because they know they can get away with it.Wow I think that's long enough haha.
  6. Don't forget we all can't start at the top of the ladder and if all the low end jobs are gone, where on earth do us poor buggers start? (I'm in that exact predicament because of my age now, there taking all the younger ones they can legally pay much lower wages or people that will take absolute insane low ages).Additionally most higher up jobs these days are lazy ones, and that does not bode well with people like me who have lazy hobbies (no time or money for more physical intensive hobbies, let alone a good location for them), so lower end physical work suits me best.I'm stuck in a rock and hard place (kind of an odd "metaphor?" considering a rock is hard itself..... , maybe between 2 very hard rocks lol).
  7. I'm building the basic blocks for my first attempt at a Tower Defense type game, and it's going reasonable well. But there may become slightly heavier situations in the full game where performance could become a problem (mostly with many built towers on screen).Would my flash8/as2 project be mostly compatible and loadable in the new flash? and would the performance be worth the jump generally? Is there any major changes from Flash8 to Flash9 that anybody is aware of?
  8. Same here really, we don't let the blokes get away with excuses, were built to be tougher than that naturally.I kicked a woman once lol, in the leg (my fiance), wouldn't leave me alone and kept trying to hit me (basically stuck me in a corner) so I cranked my foot out and walked off.A third party might look at the above actions though and see me as a woman beater (despite it being my first time ever). And it's rather hard to beat anything with one little kick to the shin..... lol.
  9. Actually a good reminder is to remember if and where you have chat logs (for example instant messaging applications like MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger), especially you have more than just yourself accessing the machine. Some people get curious or even accidentally (I have seen it happen), access such logs.
  10. Simba that is highly in-correct, have you not heard of "cash in hand jobs"?Most migrants/immigrants etc avoid being on the books (for a plethora of reasons) and also by doing that (taking cash in hand purely and not on the books) they do not pay taxes or anything else. Here in Australia we also have people taking on these kinds of people (or even getting them over here) because they will work for a lot less, they claim these people are more skilled (and the ones here aren't), but the fact is, most of them have no credentials and even no experience in the industry there working in what so ever. It's all about the money. Plain and simple.
  11. It's technically not from another source (it's generated by a program......, an error message if you will), though it is easier to read that way.The Nero website should have InCD EasyWrite Reader, or if you have any old PC magazine discs lying around (or discs that game with CD/DVD-ROM's) you should be able to find an older version of Nero that has this.I'm pretty sure version 5 had it?
  12. Same here, I have the SpeedTouch 530 and Motorola 4400 or something like that, neither suffer from this problem. You want to check if he has changed the base configuration file.See if you can reset the modem (if you don't have to worry about any old settings), it should maybe re-instate the default configuration etc.
  13. Yup, and really there is not any need to put links in the shout box anyway.Don't think I have seen anyone who ever has...... lol.
  14. I personally could not stand Far Cry.No more to say to that lol.
  15. MediYama:That is assuming those events actually happened and as they were described, keep in mind how many things through history have been twisted (and proven to be so) even that far back.Funny thing is, I can grab a doctor and show life saving before your very eyes, but you can't find someone to magically make someone see again. Why did all these things just dissapear, and now science generally is doing the bulk of miracle work eh. Maybe now were capable of all this on our own, there is no need for him? wonder if anyone's ever considered that one.Evil roman planning, it could have been other nations etc involved as well. Many possibilities.
  16. Keep in mind javascript (being client side), can be modified by the user if they know how.A more secure method is to check server side (validation through a PHP script or some such), just make sure you strip out anything dangerous before validating any input.
  17. C and C++ aren't too different, C++ is more an upgrade to add Object Orientation to the mix.
  18. Ahhh yeah I got a speedtouch but I don't always use it, I normally use the newer Motorola Speedstream 4200 (but lan games sometimes like the older one better).
  19. Hmm, well I turn mine on/off once per day, has a switch, boots and connects in a few seconds lol.And I don't really think much of it, standard modem/router (router in-built into modem) from Telstra, meh >_>.
  20. Yeah I doubt they generate enough heat or any other energy to do anything like that lol.Unless you do something dumb with it........But if you don't need it on, why waste the energy? and the life span of the hardware.
  21. Oh cool, bummer you don't remember the link. The main difference from 2D and 3D is the large leap in processing power needed to calculate 3D virtually and the complexity (especially in calculations) added over top.2D is basically nature when it comes to a PC, or TV, it standardly outputs 2D.3D in games is no different, it results in a 2D image in the end of all things, but in the background it processes a lot of what I call *virtual* 3D data. They build for example, a camera object, and draw scenes based on where the camera is positioned (to create the 3D effect), every re-fresh, when you turn corners in FPS games, it's just 3D calculated in the background and a 2D representation (perhaps a full on buffer) flipped to the 2D screen surface.More or less.
  22. 1. Windows has the largest user base.2. Windows has the most, and most useful (OVERALL) software.3. It is not that hard to develop in, considering I use Win32 Assembly, C/C++, Object Pascal, Visual Basic + the standard web development affair, and concerning desktop level programming, cannot live a day without using the Win32 API, I think I know a thing or two.The Win32 API has bugs (guess what so does linux's backbone *shock horror*).Define ease of use? Go look at the sales/use of corporate MS software, and the use of practically no-cost linux and you tell me LOL.People still pirate windows (but why, they could have linux? or others).I personally hate the command line interface, when I can click buttons, when I want to pick something up I use my pointer (hand), not write or call out jibberish to have it come to me .And yes I suppose I vote for Windows, there's nothing I feel can beat it *overall*. I guess some people don't always want to re-invent the wheel or use a different wheel, when the old wheel is still working.
  23. Hello, I am using a modified explorer executable (just renamed is all, I couldn't be bothered with the reshacks these days). Some time ago, I modified some icons (such as file types), and "My Computer" in particular. For some reason nowadays, it defaults to that annoying white unknown icon, and even if I changed it to a different one (and make sure the file isn't removed, I figured windows would cache them.....), or back to the original, it will not stay.As soon as explorer is shut down and re-started, or I re-boot the computer, I am again represented with the crappy unknown icon. It's been like this for a few months, but just seeing it now is really beginning to get on my nerves lol.I have searched the net, and know how to change it etc, I just can't seem to get it to stay that way.Anyone know what I can do to get this thing to stick to 1 icon and stop reverting back to this ugly pretty much plain white thing?
  24. Well if you want to go that route, any 3D game of today is not 3D.It's only a virtual representation, that changes data based on input, to make it appear so.But most cards and machines of today are optimized specifically for that extra processing required to fake 3D.2D alone doesn't require all of that.
  25. The first Playstation? nah that's also 3D (look at tekken etc). Thanks .
