You guys might not know, but of all the money that an MP3 album costs, an artist gets about $0.50 or less, depending on where it is sold. I know an artist who sells his CDs at his local concerts, and he says he gets a lot more money from those sales then from the iTunes music store. The money that is spent at the iTunes music store goes to Apple, and whatever is left goes to the record company (and the greedy RIAA), who passes a few cents to the artist. I'm all for Apple putting another column next to the price of a song saying how much an artist gets from the song, but I'm sure sales would decline or cease. As for the subject at hand, as long as they are low quality and not used in an innopropriate way (such as to promote a political canidate, or a product), and the quality isn't very good, it is perfectly acceptable under fair use. The reason why these copyrighted songs get taken down is because the record labels had an agreement with YouTube that they would get paid a certain amount of money each time that the song was played, but the agreement lapsed. So warner brothers took down all their videos, and instead they are all on myspace now.

Swine flu is nowhere as serious as a threat as HIV or AIDS are. This swine flu panic will clear up in a few years, and everybody will see how little of a threat it was.

Security updates for phpBB are a joke. There are so many vulneabilities for phpBB that aren't even close to patched. And it is close to impossible to hack a current version of SMF.

I'm with truefusion on this issue. I wouldn't have came here if it weren't for the free hosting, but now I've been used to the community, and it's pretty cool. I might not post as often, but I would still post here.

OK, please stop signing your posts. There's a signature place for a reason. Secondly, knowing 100 people that can easily hack SMF is impossible. There are currently no reported cases of SMF 2.0 RC1.2 or 1.1.10 being hacked without a password being compromised. Enlighten me. And what are we waiting for the admins for? Yeah your best idea is to post on the support topic. I know that it works with these servers, but there might be something that you have to manually edit or the like. That's actually a great idea. People have the right to bear arms and that place should be no exception. Of course he has to be very careful in what he says or does there, because murder isn't protected by the bill of rights.

I have used Drupal, but never used it for a production site. I was originally going to move my e107 CMS to Drupal, but embedding remote videos were a hassle to do in Drupal, and I never received support on the Drupal boards. I haven't received support on e107 either, but there haven't been many problems with it so far. I have never used Joomla, but have heard positive things about it. It is one of the more popular CMS' out there, so you are bound to get good support and regular updates there.Pretty URLs is great. I have it currently enabled. The thing that is key is manually editing .htaccess of your directory. If you go on the MOD's support topic on the community, Danii will give you the specific code that you need to add. It really helps with SEO, and is nice to have for a direct URL to something it just takes knowing what the board is or the topic is. The default URLs and the "SEO URLs" that are in the default package aren't that good.Yes. Dzinerstudio.com, Tinyportal.net are two of the best places to get themes. If you have a specific look in mind, I can give you specific themes.

The point is that the admins here are doing a bunch of work on Computer Host, so they are busy enough. Why do they need to be active here if there's a great moderation team. Just because somebody doesn't post doesn't mean they aren't active either. The theme was changed about a year ago, and I don't mind it. Of course a new theme wouldn't be that bad, but this current one is fine. (If there is going to be a theme change, the post rating system that we had on V2 would be a nice addition )

RSS feed poster only works on some servers. It has only posted once on my forum. The MOD for 2.0 is very good though and is very well made. I had zCommunity, but it was rarely used, so I just combined a blog with my e107 site. It was really a website (updates) and band updates blog anyway. I actually think it will be better if it isn't linked to SMF since it will have less work on the server.I believe there are bridges for CMS's and SMF. Check the community forums, there's a bunch listed there.Traffic right now is mostly from direct traffic, and returning members. For new traffic I rely on SEO and I use yahoo answers to an extent. I have a twitter, but is mainly used for fun. I think I have 10 followers. In more detail, my disturbed site was completely built up from traffic from YouTube videos, and posting on the official site. I use a great deal of yahoo answers for this site. For my all that remains site, it was completely dead until a live chat with the band, and the lead singer posted it on myspace and twitter. YouTube helped a bit too.

Saying something and planning to act on it are two very different things. Heck if you could get arrested for that, loads of people would be in prison during the Bush administeration.

As for easy to understand, it is. If you want to make edits to the appearance, you would edit the template files (either in a cutom theme's folder, or if they aren't in there, they revert to the default ones). For more features, it would be a Sources edit. Everything is clearly labeled, index.template.php is the header and footer, and the rest iis really easy to figure out (ex display.template.php is the topic display and recent.template.php is the recent posts).The only downfall is that somethings can be controlled by more than one file. For example the linktree can be edited or deleted in a number of ways through at least 5 files.And zCommunity is a great MOD for blogging. It is supposed to be it's own software soon, since the MOD's files topped 2MB.

As stated above, the best idea would be to go to the shopkeeper, which is Apple. Unfortunately they can't repair it on site.

You would install a software such as Wordpress, Joonla, or Simple Machines Forum. Auto installers get the data from the local server and bring it to your hosting account's directory. Manually installing would mean you would download a zip file of the software, unzip it, and upload the files. You would then open the directory that you uploaded the files to, in your web browser and follow the instructions. As for bandwidth of your site, it is nothing. If you have the standard 10GB bandwidth, 10MB is nothing.

For the autoinstallers, I would highly suggest installing manually, so that you know what you are doing. The autoinstallers do everything for you, so you might not even know what the database's name is or what the user for the database is. Or you could run an auto installer and later on try to manually install it. So far the hardest software for me to install is mediawiki, which took about 30 minutes. Good luck with your website.

I have about 70 mods on my SMF, and around 200 hard-coded edits. I'll post a list later though. The SMF Media Gallery is a really nice gallery to have, and would reccomend it to all. There are a few MODs I was considering making, but they never happened (though I do have one "MOD" up there).A wishlist for me would be a torrent tracker (complete with stats and the like), watermarking pictures on the SMG, Calendar complete with who's attending (I have a beta release of that).But really what a lot of people want in MODs is already in SMF.

Well I know that it isn't immune to all viruses, but it is nearly impossible to run a keylogger or the such on a Mac to begin with. Unless somebody is really good, viruses for Macs would be detected if they were to go into the System Preferences, or in the command prompt. And in fact, most of the updates are security fixes, not so much of bug fixes. Same thing for the iPod touch. The updates were to provent hacking (by downloading a jailbreak file in Safari, I belies this was fixed in 1.1.4) and running cracked apps on unjailbroken iPods (not so much security though). And I know Linux is the most secure, I just like the Mac interface and compatibility better. iTunes doesn't do that, and I know that for a fact. I had an mpg video, and rather than converting it, iTunes told me that it wouldn't put it on my iPod. Not sure if .avi or any of the other formats do that, but the only thing that I have ever seen iTunes convert were .wmv (or maybe it was .wma) files. Metallica lost my respect when they did that. And as said above, many people pirated Death Pathetic because of that. Even if a new Metallica CD was $0.01 I wouldn't buy it, because their views on piracy, and the fact that I refuse to support the RIAA. I don't mind bands opposing piracy, but testifying to Congress crosses the line. Metallica has sold millions of records, what's 100,000 people illegally downloading it? (In fact I saw an interview where Lars said he downloaded Death Pathetic a week before it came out, off The Pirate Bay) As for merchandise piracy, it happens. There were people caught at the Music as a Weapon tour selling fake tee shirts, it even made blabbermouth.net. The reason why people pirate CDs is because it is much easier to do. Getting tee shirts made an selling them for $20 will net you about $10 or so depending on where you get the shirts made, an how many you make. CDs can make less money, but there is a wider market for them (after all, with tee shirts you have to get many sizes) and it is easy to just burn some CDs.

There are some likeable things, but the way that I see it, there aren't many. Also, this is my point of view, others may see this differently. I get a lot of my ideas behind the way that Sean Hannity talks about these issues.

Yep. The record company takes most of the money. It amounts to about $1 per $10 CD getting paid to the artist. So if you are in a large band such as Slipknot (9 members) you get a whopping $.11 per CD sale. I'm not sure of the exact numbers for tee shirts, but I have talked to members of bands (even a "popular" band, All That Remains' Mike Martin and Phil Labonte), and across the board they all say that they make more money touring and from sales of tee shirts than from record sales. That's why I never buy CDs new, money is going right to the record comany and the RIAA (who are pure evil by the way). I'd rather support the local CD guy selling the CDs and the dude who originally bought the CD.

People say that here as well. A recession started in March of 2000, which was left over from what happened with Clinton/Gore. So already the economy wasn't doing that well when Bush came into office. Sure, Bush could have done better though. But currently, Barack Obama has spent more in his 7 month presidency than all other presidents combined in 230+ years. Our biggest export is our debt, and money is being spent at the rate of about $50,000 USD per second to amount to over $7.5 trillion. This is about $37,700 per citizen.

Nameless_, I didn't even see your post before mine lol. I am not saying that SMF is terrible, I am saying just the opposite. I think that SMF is great, but there are a lot of themes on there that I think are terrible. People spend ten minutes changing pictures or CSS and consider it a brand new theme. I use SMF for all but one of my sites (that site was started long before I knew what SMF was). The two in my sig and http://southlandforum.com/ (which I admin, but do not own). The themes I have on my sites are the best out there. If you have any questions about forum software (or a list of questions), post them here and I'll try my best to answer it.

I would pay more just for the Apple operating system, rather than the whole computer. They are immune to almost all viruses, and have a user friendly interface. And I never buy name brand tees and clothes (unless they are the same price). And I never buy clothes that advertise a company, unless they were to pay me. Why should I pay money to be a walking billboard? Unfortunately I have to get shoes that have the brand on it, since the ones that don't are crap. What shirts do I wear, one may ask. Band tees. The artists get more money from those sales than from CD sales.
