  1. Web Install is great, even for people who don't know the ins and outs of MySQL and databases. It took me some time to learn how to install without Fantastico, but in reality, it isn't much harder. Softalicious (I believe that is what it's called) usually keeps the scripts more up to date than Fantastico does, but it still takes time to update them. Also the auto install scripts don't have the Release Candidates and Beta versions of SMF, which many people choose to use on live sites.
  2. Currently use uTorrent, like most of the people here. It has a lot of more advanced features that not many other clients that I have used have. It hogs a lot of memory, which I don't like, however.
  3. My info was worth about $130.00. Not quite accurate, since some of the questions I answered yes to could use a "sometimes" or "yes*" answer. And even though I use an unsecured wireless network, you have to be practically right in my house to get any signal whatsoever. Still quite surprised.
  4. Bing will never take over Google. It is just false hype that Microsoft has created. My website hardly ranks in a search for the site's name (which I am in the top of every other search engine for a while now) and results come back much worse than Yahoo or Google. The algorithm has to be changed or else nobody is going to use it any more.To tell you the truth I hate Bing more than MSN, and I didn't like MSN all that much.
  5. Mainly to show people who like other search engines all the features on Google. Google started as a search engine, but has much more now, and people who don't use it might not know that it has all these features. Hence why google would advertise. Plus it isn't much money for a big company like that anyway.
  6. .tk is even worse than co.nr. Nearly everybody knows it is free, and there's nothing professional about it. I'd rather see somebody use a subdomain than a .tk site.
  7. Don't use co.nr. They are really bad, and can only be used as a redirect. They also have the legal right to take away the domain from you at any time. I don't think that they would do it, but they can legally take it away. co.cc is better, but not as good as a top level domain.
  8. Meta keywords mean nothing. Google doesn't use them, and the only big search engine that still puts any big value on them at all is Yahoo. It is good to have them there, but don't obsess over them. Worry more about content. Content is one of the highest factors to get your site anywhere in SEO!
  9. I had my site on the first page for an MSN search for all that remains (a band). It didn't take much SEO, just a good amount of backlinks and good backlinks at that. Linking your site with a keyword, rather than an image is better for SEO. Also you have to pay attention to what sites are nofollow and which sites are dofollow. A link on nofollow sites has a lot less SEO value than a link on a dofollow site. Make sure you check to see if a site is nofollow or dofollow before you pay to have your site's link on it.
  10. I don't see the point in these expensive apps. They are low power, so they won't have all the nice features that computer software has. You can get some nice freeware (or not so expensive shareware) for security cameras and a laptop for less than $900. Some of the pro audio tools for the iPod Touch and iPhone are memory hogs, and Audacity is much better than them anyway, not to mention it is freeware. I haven't bought any iPhone apps, I just mainly stick to lite versions and free apps.
  11. Try phpmotion. I'm not sure how it works since I have never used it, but I have heard good things about it. It might not convert the files to FLV (I'm not 100% sure it does or doesn't), but it provides a nice interface for sharing videos on your website.
  12. I'd say for a powerful and highly customized site, go with Drupal. There are tons of high traffic websites that use Drupal, so there shouldn't be many problems on Drupal's side if you have a high traffic site. There are also a ton of themes that look professional, which is nice. The only thing I don't like about Drupal is with many addons and plugins you have to install more than one plugin to get the original one to install. This can make you install 10+ plugins to get a simple video plugin to work.I'm currently using e107, but I don't like it that much. The support is quite terrible, I have had quite a few questions go unanswered, and the few that got responded to took a while. There haven't been any security updates (or updates at all) in the time that I have had the CMS installed for (~8 months) which makes me wonder how they are keeping up with security. The admin panel for e107 is nice, and things can get added very fast. Some of the themes are bad (namely the default ones), but there are tons of sites where you can get free e107 themes that look decent.
  13. Opera is a great standalone browser (compared to Firefox for example), but I don't like the lack of addons that make FireFox a great browser to me. There aren't that many webmaster addons (I like the Alexa Sparky one for Firefox, to name one), and I don't like that Opera doesn't have a Downloadhelper or an equivalent. It helps me download files all at once, rather than hitting "Save As" for each one.Things I like about Opera is its look and layout. Much better than Firefox here. The built in torrent client is nice too, but if you want to use it, you have to remember to open your browser to start up the torrents.
  14. Nice guide. Another key to a good site is blocking off unwanted areas, and duplicate entries. robots.txt is a great way of doing this, and takes little to no time to set up. Another great file that doesn't take long to setup is .htaccess, but that's another topic
  15. Well with every new iPod come a flock of people willing to buy it. Apple's marketing strategy is great, and the logo is easy to recognize. I'm just waiting to see what the next iPod Touch will be like. Hopefully Apple listened to the consumers and will add a camera and (already have) add more space. Though I would love to see a 100GB+ iPod Touch, I hope it isn't as thick as those ugly iPod Photos.
  16. I was thinking of uniting the All That Remains Website and the Disturbed Website, but they each have a unique community and I can tell you that some of the members on each forum won't get along with the members on the other forum. As for the SEO aspect, I have been doing a ton of SEO the past few months, and I've managed to get both of my band fansites up to the top 50 on at least one search engine of a search of the band's name. I managed to get the All That Remains site up to #9 on MSN for a search of all that remains, but it quickly dropped when MSN became Bing.
  17. Most of the references on articles are checked, unless the article isn't heavily edited. Any Good Article or Featured article has to go through a rigorous inspection of the sources before it is promoted. I happen to currently be in a debate about sources on wikipedia on the Boston article, because it has a biased opinion. That's one of the main reasons why a website isn't allowed as a reliable resource.
  18. I can't wait for this to be added. I was really pissed when a music video that had my link in it was taken down (it had 30,000+ hits). I never claimed it as my own, I just uploaded it because nobody else had. This will be a win-win for both parties as well, since YouTube will get more hits, and Warner will get money out of it.
  19. To all others that are looking to do this, you can submit a support ticket, or you can go to "My Domains". I believe there is an option somewhere in there for renewal.
  20. I, too, would like to see a source on this. Additionally, I edit wikipedia a bit (1,500 edits) and haven't been informed of such changes. If they are anything like what you said, I don't agree with them.
  21. The tracker has been on and off for a while, but currently it is up. Of course you can't download any torrents or upload any, but you can make do with what you already have downloaded. I have been working on the same torrent for about 2 weeks now, since it downloads so slowly. And for those who are wondering, it is completely legal, a live recording of a Disturbed show. This shows how important it is to keep an up to date back up, especially if your site is big.
  22. Bing has nothing on Google. Simply saying. The commercials are cheesy, and it is nothing more than MSN with a new name. It has still yet to put my site on the top for the site's name, and a lesser known (and lesser SEOed) site has the #1 spot for my keyword. This completely proves that MSN/Bing's algorithm is terrible, and needs a new rewrite. The fact that it still uses META keywords also proves it needs a rewrite.Nothing will kill Google. It will never happen.
  23. See the last part of my post. Saying something and planning on acting on it are two very different things.
  24. I think that's bull crap. You know how many people compared Bush to Hitler and wanted him dead? The government did nothing to those people. Liberals always get their way, and this is a proven fact by this instance. In addition, it is freedom of speech. If it were "Do you think I should...", THEN it should be investigated.
  25. Seems interesting. I'll probably re-join after it is fully launched. I only got 5PTZ in the first game. My internet and computer is quite slow.
