  1. Avast is very good, I've never had a problem with it and it seems to be very light weight and it has stopped every virus that has tried to knock on my computers door. If you google avast you go and download the home version, it's free and you just need to register it and you just need to register once a year, and like I said, it's completely free. Hope this is what you're looking for!
  2. I'm afraid I can't think of anything else that could have gone wrong. You can try installing the CPU's in another PC to test if it's the CPU, but other than that, I can't really think of what to do. Can you get pictures of the inside of your computer so I can see what's going on in there? And as for boot up, your screen just goes from black and straight to the hp image? nothing else? no text?
  3. Yea, the HP logo means the GPU is working, and I couldn't imagine that the CPU could really be bad if it boots anything at all, the CPU does all the thinking so if it does any processing the CPU should be good. Maybe you bumped a power wire to your harddrive or you might have pressed too hard on the motherboard and cracked it. Does it give any warnings at all? Can you give us a picture of what the screen looks like when it doesn't do anything at all? How long do you wait for it to boot before you give up on it?
  4. I'm assuming you have experience in installing a CPU, in that you had yourself adequetly grounded (best method is to tie a wire around your wrist and attach it to the case), and you placed it in carefully, not forcing it. I'm also assuming that you locked it in there too. I don't think bumping the video card would give you this problem as the video card has to be functioning to give you any type of screen. It may be possible the CPU broke or isn't installed correctly, or maybe something else went wrong. Are there any errors at all? Was the CPU you tried installing proven to be working before the installation? Are the CPU's the same type?
  5. As csp4.0 said, you can't put a regular pci card into a laptop. I've heard of cards that can go in the express slot, but on a laptop, the only slot you can actually put any chips in is the pcmcia slot or the express slot, you either have one or the other. I wouldn't know where the express card graphics cards are, how much they cost, or how well they work, but I have heard about them; however, unfortunatly because of the way laptops are built it is very, very difficult to upgrade stuff, especailly the graphics cards. Some manufacturers like dell have a couple models that they can upgrade for you, but I don't think you can do it yourself even if you have computer knowledge, I am sorry.
  6. 1) Alright, well first off, Vista isn't all that safe, there was malicious code for it before it was out, but again, you just have to be careful and you should be fine. I still installed avast on my machine and it came preinstalled with mcaffee. The security they put in is completely annoying, I heard you needed to type your password each time, but I've only had to click a yes button, but either way, I'm still asked about 3-5 times if I want to run a program before it actually runs and it's not just a one time deal, it happens every time I try to run that program, so that gets really annoying.2) I have 4 gigs of ram (but 32-bit vista so really 3.5gb) and a geforce 8600 256 native ram, and it runs ok, but I still had lag when before I reformatted to remove all the preinstalled apps, it runs ok now with aero and stuff, it actually looks really nice, but the functionality still isn't up to snuff with xp.3) there is a new service pack coming out soon, but the tests actually crash the machines that it's put on and some machines are prevented from installing it due to some hardware issues, I have yet to hear it fix anything, but I haven't seen any real problems myself, but I haven't used vista all that much either, I've only been on vista for about 30 hours total to play with bluetooth.4) The discounted prices, I have no idea and can't help you there.5) Vista does have compatibility options, but it still doesn't work all that great, just like in XP. The reason people complain so much is because certain drivers don't pass the vista security code and can't be installed and certain games that use opengl won't run well, if at all, in vista, hence the reason I dual boot xp.If I were you, I would not install vista. I got my new laptop and was forced with vista, but I upgraded to XP within hours of testing. Vista is a horrible system at least for now, the only reason I have vista on my machine right now is so that I can play games with my wii remotes because there aren't any good xp drivers for my bluetooth card; however, I can still connect my bluetooth mouse and headset up fine.
  7. Well I learned from an old book called "Problem Solving Using C++" by Yuksel Uckan. It was published in 1995, and it was old when I learned from it 6 years ago, but I was in 7th grade at the time and it made it really easy, I would definitly suggest it; however, I don't know of any other books as the rest I just learned from google.
  8. They'll discontinue windows XP in late summer I believe and stop support by 2010. This enrages me because most people have to buy new computers to use windows Vista and they're going to leave security holes in an OS that is used by about 50% of the market or more. I, being a computer nerd, will survive without support since I know more about computers than anybody on the microsoft support phone anyways, but many users on XP don't know how to keep safe and will switch to vista thinking it's safer and then complain about it being too slow and either have to spend more money to buy a new computer or they'll switch to apple, or they'll just moan about it. Microsoft, owning over 90% of the consumer market needs to think about the user rather than themselves, when you are the only real player there, you have to make your users happy to keep them, I see microsoft's market share dropping in the years to come, especially if windows 7 isn't any good either.
  9. Windows vista gives a better sense of security; however, on the beta when microsoft wanted people to hack it so that they can find vulnerabilities, it was hacked within 24 hours. And better yet, Microsoft basically called her a cheater and said that it didn't count because of the way she did it. There are already plenty of viruses out for Vista and it was hacked in 2 days at a national hacking convention a few weeks ago. Windows XP wasn't in that contest though, so I couldn't tell you how windows XP really stands up with Vista; however, due to the requirements of vista, in my eyes, windows xp is much better, just because it has more compatibility with windows programs and it runs so much smoother. If you really want to the cool effects you see in vista, get Ubuntu linux, it can do all that and more, it just can't run windows programs natively, which vista has problems doing right now anyways. To get a better view on things. When I got my new laptop I paid USD$2,200 for it and decided to try the vista that was installed on it. Within 3 hours I was sick of it and upgraded to windows XP. This laptop has 4 GB of RAM and a 2.5GHz core 2 duo, and it still lagged a bit. I would definitly suggest windows XP over vista and probably any other OS over vista with the exception of windows ME.
  10. Well in today's society it's expected that the guy makes the first move, but women are making more first moves than in the past now. As for the first sex part, I would hope that neither makes the first move as they shouldn't be having sex until they're married.
  11. Now, for friends, I don't think there is an age limit, I have friends that are 50 years old, I also have friends that are 8 years old or less. I'm 18 and there's really no problem with it, it's really a matter of how to get along with different aged people. Dating on the other hand, is a different story. Especially when your younger you shouldn't date more than 2, maybe 3, years apart from you, and that's still pushing; however, when you get older, the age difference can get bigger like up to 10-12 years, that's pushing it. This is just my personal opinion though, your culture may be different from mine over here.
  12. That's actually pretty sweet, I had thought about this, but I never got unlazy enough to actually make a script for it. Actually what I was thinking of doing was just making a php page that redirected to the file and in the stats just see how many times the page was hit, but this might be better, thanks for the link! And thanks for asking the question I was too lazy to answer
  13. Well, I created an account and right off I noticed the security measures they instill not only look amateur but show signs that they don't secure their system all that well and that cheating is a very easy task in the game. I bookmarked it so I will be going back to it again to play some more, but I am definitly not reassured by the amateur looking site for a game like this. Just my two cents, thanks for the link though, I do like stargate, so hopefully I'll get into it, but I'm not much for turn based games.
  14. wow, that's awesome, not only can you use the wii remote to open doors, move the mouse on your computer, or play guitar on your computer, you can even use it to defuse bombs! Wow, nintendo hit gold with their new gaming console, it's amazing!
  15. Wow, I love google, lol. I saw the custom time feature, but thought it was a real new feature and decided to wait to check it out, but I'm definitly going to check it out now, looks sweet! Thanks for all the information, can't wait to check some of these out
  16. I actually just saw 3 movies this past weekend.Sydney White: 8 of 10This was a great movie. It's about a tomboy girl heading to college to follow the steps of her deceased mother. When she gets there she inevitably runs into some problems, I can't give you much more detail because I don't want to spoil the movie, but she makes some new friends, new enemies, and learns a bit in the process.Stargate SG-1: the lost ark: 7 of 10This is the ending to the last stargate SG-1 series in where they finish the Ori at last. There is lots of adventure and a few twists as well. This is really only a good movie if you have kept up on the stargate series though.Awake: 5 of 10It was an ok movie, it's about a man who goes into heart surgery, but the anesthesia only paralyzes him, not put him out so he's awake for the whole procedure. He can feel and hear everything, and as he's there on the table he hears a plot to kill him, but since he is paralyzed he can't do anything. This is a story with many twists and turns, but it was a little too confusing for my liking.
  17. I've played the 14-day trial. It is an interesting game, but for the time I played I didn't really see much variety in gameplay, that and I don't like monthly payments. It is cool how the economy works though.
  18. Yea, this would be cool, but the biggest problem to overcome would be fingerprints and the price. If I remember correctly, touchscreens are very expensive, at least they were last time I checked, but definitly a great idea, I don't think I'd get one though, just because I don't use a laptop to move stuff on the screen, I prefer mouse and keyboard, It would be great on a thinkpad or something like that though, so it's almost like a laptop version of the microsoft surface or iphone.
  19. This is slightly disconcerting. I never eat breakfast and I have noticed over the years I can't think as clearly as before... maybe I'll try eating breakfast this summer and see what happens. I also eat alot of sugar, this is definitly helpful if it's true. Thanks for the information!
  20. Well, i'm glad to know why my credits are missing, and will definitely make sure I no longer post in spammy topics as it almost cost me a suspension. Thanks for the information, I had no idea I would lose credits for posting relevant posts in a semi-spammy thread.
  21. My site is 3dquid.t3jem.trap17.com. It's really just a template I optimized, I don't really have time to make my own site, but the game there, I made myself.
  22. I found a bible-in-a-year plan that came with my bible, it's pretty cool, it goes about on those lines, except you read different chapters at once, so you're not just reading it straight through, I liked it, but unfortunatly, I kept getting busy and didn't have enough time, so I won't be finishing in a year.
  23. I've heard AVG is good, but I prefer avast myself, it offers malware and spyware protection as well and I have yet to catch a virus with it so far, it's blocked all the ones I've almost downloaded so far, so I'm pretty happy with it.
  24. Wow, this stuff is great! I love the last one!
  25. Sounds like a great site, going to check it out right now, but for future reference (and I'm sure a mod will be here shortly), don't use reffering links.
