  1. Actually it does. Ephesians 2:8-9 " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith?and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God? not by works, so that no one can boast." It doesn't matter if we are a good person or a bad person, what matters is our belief that we are sinners and that Jesus, the Son of God and God himself, has paid the debt for our sin which is death. Our faith alone can get us into heaven. John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"
  2. I've found that we are incapable of changing someone's heart and no matter what we do or how hard we try, we can never soften someone's heart to see God; however, prayer moves the hand of God and if you ask Him to soften your friends heart and you live your life for Christ and be an example then your friend may see that it is at least looking into. I've seen God work in my own family, right now I am the only one who is saved in my family, but my mom and brother have begun to come to church, and it has absolutely nothing to do with me and I know it. Mark 9:23 says that if you have faith in God anything is possible. I can gaurentee that it won't come at the time you expect it, but it will happen in God's time which is the perfect time. I definitely wouldn't suggest pushing the bible on him, Jesus would meet the physical needs of people before meeting their spiritual needs as well, so you can't expect someone to feel God's love if you don't show it to them. I think the biggest part is to love them the way Christ does and your friend will see that there is someone who cares about him, and if he thanks you for always being there, let him know that it isn't you, but rather the one whom you serve that loves him when you love with Christ's love. I hope that made sense, I kind of jumbled a bunch of ideas in one. I'd be happy to clarify if you want.
  3. Actually, I found C++ extremely easy to learn, I taught myself C++ in the 7th grade and was making games with OpenGL by the end of 8th grade, I never had anyone teach me, so I would assume that would show that C++ is very easy to learn. As for resources I learned from a book called "Problem Solving Using C++" by Yuksel Uckan, it has some very long explanations, but it's very thorough, so I would suggest that one, but it's also very old (copywright '95). As for java, I wouldn't know, I never really got into java, but I wish you luck on your endevour!
  4. I haven't played runescape in a loong time and when I did I didn't care much for PKing and stuff, but from what I've heard (my brother plays alot) is that jagex is basically killing the runescape economy and taking control over it rather than leaving it up to the players. With the new bank thing in varrock and the trading limitations and now with the removal of the wilderness, they are killing the economy and in essence the game, I think the biggest attraction to any game would be the realism in it, I think they did an ok job with the wilderness and I think that they should add dueling in non-wilderness zones too, and the economy should be controlled by the players, and in shops they should use the average sell price for the price of the items in the shop, not set it on their own, I know eve online does this and it's pretty neat, so yes, I support you guys, but I won't be getting on 1) I won't remember 2) I don't think I even remember my password, I will pass this on to my brother though.
  5. I don't think they could beat google, mainly because google already has such a major hold on the search and advertising market. Microsoft is mainly buying yahoo for the advertising department; however, they have since given up discussions and are no longer interested; though, the major stock holders of yahoo are trying to circumvent the board on yahoo to get yahoo to accept the microsoft offer, I don't know if they will be able to proxy the yahoo board, but even if they did I don't think Microsoft is interested in yahoo any more now with the new player, but I can't remember what it was, I think if Microsoft was to beat google, they would have to beat them in an area google doesn't already have a foothold in, mainly because google users are very happy with it and would just about never switch to microsoft (for good reason to), so that's my view on it. I honestly think microsoft needs to be hit hard with a strong competitor like google so they will actually start paying attention to their customers again, that's why google is doing so well, they actually care about the users, whereas microsoft just does what they want.
  6. I live in Arizona, United States I have on average 60 kb/sec, it's advertised as like 128 or something like that, but I never get it anymore, half the time my internet is down, I hate my ISP and will be switching in a year when I finish building my new house, then i'll have like 1 mbit/sec, i'll be happy then.
  7. Yea, definitely, if you want a great looking OS, try out ubuntu, ubuntu.com, if you don't like the default look you can completely change it to how you like, it offers a better look than any operating system I have ever seen (it uses compiz fusion). It also comes preinstalled with firefox; however, if you don't have fast internet you will want to look into increasing the bandwidth firefox can use. Anyways, hope this helps.
  8. Yes, it is enabled, I have used it many times myself in my scripts. Xisto gives you all the controls to your website, so even if it was disabled by default, you would be able to enable through the control panel, this is one of the many reasons I love you use Xisto (actually, I'm with Xisto - Web Hosting now, which is just the mother of Xisto), but yes, mail function is supported, I hope you enjoy you're stay!
  9. Wow, I must say, that's pretty funny, I love the part where he says "flash" is a hacking program and how you should never buy AMD processors because they are knock-offs, I never was able to finish it, I was talking to a non-computer friend at the time of reading this and to continue I'd have to talkt to someone and I didn't want to confuse her too much, thanks for sharing this . I do feel bad for that guys kid though.
  10. wubi was what I was reffering to in my first post, I just wasn't sure if that was the actual name of the feature and i couldn't quickly find it on the ubuntu website.
  11. If you have windows still running on the laptop, I know that ubuntu 8.04 offers a feature where you can install ubuntu to the harddrive while still in windows. To do this, you would download the iso as normal and then install alcohol 52% so that you can make a virtual CD drive and mount the iso to it, from there you can run the disk as if it was in the disk tray and you can install it that way using the install through windows feature. you can find a 15 day trial of alcohol 52% at http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/downloadtrial.php and you can download ubuntu 8.04 at ubuntu.com I'm sure there may be another was of doing this; however, this would be the way I would try it, but I'm also not the best at this type of stuff either.
  12. You definitely put it right. I know with my vista (which I only use on certain occasions, I have xp, vista, and ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop) it's annoying to run anything I have to install from the internet on there. When I first reinstalled vista on my machine and was setting up my programs everytime I ran something I had to click accept 2-3 times. Once to let it know I know it was downloaded, once for UAC, and then once to let it connect to the internet for an update. It was unbelievably annoying and if I knew I was going to be exclusive to vista I would have turned off UAC. In linux, it's really nice, it only asks once and only on occasions where the action could damage your computer. As for other issues with vista, I have 4GB (3.5GB since it's 32-bit) of ram with a 128mb nvidia 6800 and 2.5ghz dual core and I can still see a noticeable difference in my games between XP and vista. I'll get a 10-20 frame boost in XP while playing a half life game. And for openGL games such as frets on fire, I had to get a special version of it, the latest version wouldn't even run because the opengl support in vista is almost as good as directx support in linux. Now, for the average user who checks their mail and chats online, vista may be fine may be even great with UAC to keep them safe, but usually, if a user is going to get a virus it happens from infected attachments or downloads that they aren't paying attention to, so they will get infected no matter how much security there is.
  13. Lol, we all eat weird foods. I know my family will eat anything with ketchup, but the thing that usually grosses people out is when I eat speghetti, eggs, and sugar all mixed together, it's really good, but nobody wants to try it
  14. Whe I say "to serve the world" I mean serving money and/or yourself before anything else. I mean it in the sense that jesus put it in that you put worldly possesions before Godly possesions. When one becomes of the world everything they have can be taken away in an instant, but an individual who is of God has their life stored in heaven, it is a little difficult to understand without studying it though. As for environmentalism and humanism, yes, some of them are atheists too, they may not put themselves first, but they do put worldly belongings before God, to make them of the world. Anyways, I hope I explained it enough.
  15. I think atheism is a religion, because instead of serving God, you are serving the world. In Christianity you try to become more Christ like; whereas, in atheism you become more like the world. It's not a defined religion with rules and guidlines to identify atheists, but I think it is a religion, but it isn't viewed as one since it doesn't honor a god per se, but rather worldly things.
  16. aww, he's adorable. He looks like he could be black and white. I had a cat that looked like that, we named him T.C. he was a very tough cat, he killed a rattle snake with his bare teeth. What gender is it? then we could suggest some gender specific names too. I'm not very good at names, so T.C. will be my only suggestion. Good luck naming and raising it though!
  17. I did one of these before, and I spent a while on there, and for the longest time they wouldn't let me ask for a payout, and when they did, I asked for it and I still haven't gotten it (I asked for it about 2 months ago). So these sites are scams and don't work. Just letting you know.
  18. I would say the replicators because even if the flood did have the technology to destroy the replicators, they aren't smart enough to do so, I mean even the humans needed an extremely high amount of help from the asgard to form a weapon against them that wasn't even entirely effective; however, the replicators are incredibly smart and would probably launch the halos to destroy all the flood's food or they would just eat away the halos that the flood lived on.
  19. Alright, cool, thank you, I was hoping it wasn't something I did because I don't know how to fix that stuff. Thank you very much for your reply and I will update in a couple days if it isn't fixed by then
  20. Hello, Today I went to check on my bandwidth (something I do when i'm bored) for my website. Well, when I finished typing in my username and password it started to load my cpanel, and it changed the URL to the long URL for the actual cpanel, but when it was done loading the page it just gave me a blank white page with absolutely nothing on it. I have tried logging in with 4 different machines, 3 at school and one here at home. I have read about cpanel problems in other threads and have tried the suggestions in them, but with no success. I can modify my files using my ftp manager still, so I can still update my website when needed; however, I do need to be able to watch my bandwidth because I have just made a new page for my church website that is using a bit more bandwidth then I'm used to, so I'd like to be able to watch my bandwidth. This is a bit of a priority for me because I do alot of my editing at school which I have to use the cpanel for (I can't use an ftp manager there). Thank you in advance for your help.Edit: I forgot to mention that the only thing I have changed in the past week or two is files (adding, editing) for a shoutbox. And for the 12 hours leading up to the problem I hadn't changed a single thing, I had only logged in to check my bandwidth a couple times. Notice from jlhaslip: Merged with related Topics here.
  21. Wow! I honestly had no idea that you could do that! I would have had to seriously consider doing that had I known about it; however, it is too late for me as I had already turned Vista on. Oh well, I boot into it when I need stability on my computer (my XP drivers aren't the best, I haven't put enough effort in it and ubuntu doesn't seem to work seemlessly all the time either). As for the question, definitly go with what everyone else said. It's pretty easy to install XP over Vista, that's what I did, then I put vista on another partition along with ubuntu 8.04 beta. There are tons of tutorials on google about doing this, so it really shouldn't be all that difficult.
  22. Yea, I've been running beta 8.04 for about a week or two now, it's pretty cool, I like the new features and stuff. I haven't tested it out too much though because I've been really busy on other stuff I can't do in linux, but when I get more time I'll update to stable and check it out some more.
  23. I do have to say, that whatever their next operating system is, it had better be amazing, because apple is gaining some ground and if Microsoft doesn't make a good Operating System soon then they will be heading for a downward spiral to the place that is currently reserved for macs. I honestly don't have too big of a problem with this, because then game makers will start programming for other OSes like Mac and linux and I won't be stranded on windows anymore.
  24. I play anarchy online, it's pretty decent, I like it. It's placed in the future and has many options and is very in depth. Also, if you pay for expansions and membership you can get more features. Link to site
  25. I kind of feel myself in this state before I really wake up, it's really being really tired and almost sleeping, but just awake enough to think, so basically you're in a heavy day dream. When you tell yourself to wake up, that's when you're putting you're brain into think mode so you wake up. When you're just in the "dream" you aren't thinking that much, and when you start to think about what is going on and think more, then you wake up. I get this too, but not often because I tend to wake up by my alarm clock now.
