Hi, I'm am making this project and I need a progress bar for the status of the task. i have two values, total and total_pings which are described below Total > The amount that I am currently up to Total-Pings > Total amount so, to find the work done as a percentage the code would be something like Private Sub tracker() Dim amount, final As Integer amount = total / total_pings final = amount * 100 prgStatus.Value = finalEnd Sub This would show me the percentage of work completed. But im having problems. When the program is running the progress bar doesn't change. it will sit on 0 till the 'total' value reaches 17 (half way) which then it goes to 100% and stops there. What I'm thinking thats happening is that because the values are something like 0.235... VB is rounding the values back to 0. but when it reaches half way the values becomes 0.522... and it rounds to 1, which then makes the progress bar go to 100%. My question is, how can i make VB not round the integers, or how can i complete this task with some simple code. Thanks -jimmy

I have tried to connect two devices (on desktop/laptop) like you are suggesting and it didn't work at all. I just couldn't get them to connect. But i think i have found a solution. I found these steps on a microsoft website. I'm just giving it to you simply, but if you want to have a look at this site (with screenshots) its from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Though, my first step in trying would be to change the wireless device so that it will only connect to ad-hoc networks. (You dont have to do this step if you dont want to) You can do this from the Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections > Select your device, right click, properties > Wireless Networks > Advanced, then select computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) networks only. 1. Goto your network connections (Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections) 2. Open the properties for your device 3. Click 'Add' under preferred networks 4. Fill in SSID (network name), untick the 'key is automatically provided for me' option and type the network keys (make some up that you will need later), and tick the ad-hoc network option at the bottom 5. Hit OK on both the property dialogs. NOTE: This is a quick overview that was compiled from the above website! You should have now made your wireless network, go to your other computer, fire up the wireless device and search for networks. you should now see the network you just made! Click connect, type in the network keys when requested, and you should be going! As to the Internet Connection. Set up the first computer (im assuming the desktop, the one that already has the internet connection) to share its internet connection and your laptop should now be able to connect to the internet! Good Luck, hopefully it all works. -jimmy

Lacie 320gb External Hard Drive Your Thoughts?
jimmy89 replied to jimmy89's topic in Hardware Workshop
Thanks for your replys! I have actually gone out and bought it and its great! When it was installing the drivers in XP it actually said that it was a segate drive, which sound good from what you have said!thanks for your ideas-jimmy -
I leave my router, as well as my broadband modem on 24/7, and so far, no problems! It shouldn't cause any problems with the hardware it's self, as long as it wont get hot and die! (So make sure its not covered, nor tucked away somewhere clustered) My modem and router both sit out with nothing crowding them, and they are fine! The only other thing would be power. Having them on 24/7 will use more power then if you only have it on for a few hours each day! Not that it would be much, not as much as leaving your computer on all the time! Another benefit with not having the modem off is, if you have a dynamic ip address, its going to be the same until you power off and power the modem! So, in conclusion, i see no reason why leaving your router on 24/7 will cause it harm!-jimmy

What does everyone think of this external hard drive? I have been thinking of getting one for all my movies, music, programs etc but have not been sure what to get. I found this at a a local retailer and it looks good! But what do you guys think of it? Worth the money? Will I ever use the whole 320GB (even though formatted, a hard drive is never what it says it is! ) If not, how big should I go? Are other brands better? Also, I've heard that these drives use a Seagate Drive! Is the Seagate brand respectable enough, will i be looking for a new one too soon (Hopefully Not!)-jimmy

Soundblaster Live! 24-bit External Soundcard What do you think of it?
jimmy89 replied to jimmy89's topic in Hardware Workshop
Yeah, thats going to be the only problem with USB. Though, normally it shouldn't matter! The only time, I think where there would be a recognizable delay would be when your recording and playing back at the same time. This would obviously use more bandwidth, which will slow everything down!Otherwise, I haven't seen any difference, besides that it sounds much better, which is good!-jimmy -
@WeaponX - when did you try and access phpMyAdmin, cause for me its working fine! i can access phpMyAdmin and all my databases are fine. I do have a problem connecting now and again, but it only happens now and again!

According to OpaQue, they will be back. When they fixed the server Hard Drive they had to relicense the software (I think thats what he meant anyway) which means that we should be getting it all back soon enough. But for now, were just going to have to work without. this is what he said; This is the link to the topic about the Server Issues where OpaQue posted the information. http://forums.xisto.com/topic/92892-topic/?findpost=1064368290

Congratulations! Thats some great work you've got there! I have a few ideas that you may be able to implement if you wanted. You could run the script and store the results into a database. Then using that info, create search forms, so people can choose who they want to search for etc etc. Just an idea though!Well Done-jimmy -
Im not too sure if this can be posted here, but its news to me! anyway, If you go to google maps and search for directions from New York to Paris, you get a rather interesting route. Go to the link below and look at step 23 of the route! New York, New York to Paris,France made me laugh! -jimmy

I have many stories where people have over clocked their computer - and all seemed good, till a few days. They go to turn it on or are just surfing the internet, and it just dies! You loose everything. And then, when that happens, your forking out another few hundred dollars for a new processor + anything it took down with it!Its a very risky business, and I'm just going to stay well clear of it!Back on topic, as you have all said, there is going to be downsides! Whats technology if it doesn't work at first! This type of fast processors at low power rates is good, but still has many problems that need to be worked out! But sure enough, in time it will be just another thing were used to! Personally, I cant wait!-jimmy

Which Operating System Is Better? Its a poll
jimmy89 replied to swinkid's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have to choose Linux. Even though I have used Windows for years, i still like my Linux computer at home! As beatgammit said, i have to agree with him, its stable, very easily customizable. You can do whatever you want on it, change it, play with it - whatever you feel like. And, if you want to run Windows Apps on Linux, WINE is the best software. You wont find anything alike to run Linux Apps on Windows!Because most (i think all) computers that are purchased from retailers are pre-installed with Windows, most people use it. And most common folk (which most of this community isn't) wont want to venture out into the unknown, all they know is windows and how to use it, they don't want to experiment! Linux is a great alternative.-jimmy -
Skype is a VOIP program. Basically, that means that you can talk to people over the Internet, Skype lets you do this with a microphone and speakers. Some companies now have VOIP boxes that you connect to your broadband router and your home phone and talk over the internet, as if you were using the normal telephone, but for much cheaper rates! This article by Tom is very enlightening, especially to all the work that Skype's programmers and engineers went to too make sure that this program was totally secure! It's good to know that while using Skype, were still secure - well, secure as we can be!-jimmy

it basically controls the volume output of each of the programs seperatly, so if you dont want to hear noises and clicks from Firefox, then you mute the browser and everything is still up full. I found it useful for when i was playing games, so i can listen to music at the same time and have the game volume low or non existent, cause changing the volumes in the game was getting annoying, just moving a slider down was much simpler!Thanks-jimmy

Hi all,I am looking for some software (free would be good) that can act like a mixer for my computer. What I mean by this is that i want to be able to turn different programs up and down without changing the master volume. Something like a new vista sound mixer but for earlier versions of windows.Thanks-jimmy

Astahost is a great host. But there is a difference, here we must actually post to get credits for our hosting. at places like 50megs and biz.ly you get absolutely free hosting (you don't have to do anything), but you miss out on all the goodies (mySQL, better bandwidth, more Disk Space, CPanel, FTP, you get where im going)it all goes back to that old saying, you get what you pay for. Even though, your not actually paying for hosting, taking the cheap way out is going to get you cheap hosting. Thats why I like Xisto, a bit of effort and you can have a professional website for free!

my school uses it all the time! when a computer decides to corrupt itself (or more likely, a student decides to play around ) we can simply chuck in a usb stick, and re ghost the hard drive image, with all the software back onto the computer, and it only takes a few minutes!its very simple to use and is such a powerful tool!-jimmy

I like the sound of that! Even though you get the less power usage, it only helps when you either running your computer all the time and a small change in power usage would dramatically change power usage. Though, on laptops that could be rather useful. A change in power usage like that could mean dramatic changes in power consumption and therefore, longer battery life. This sounds good! -jimmy

yeah, the i read the offical microsoft announcement when they worked it out! its scared some people bad! strange they are targeting WoW players, spose thats an easy way of getting money! but if they can get details like that, and that easily, that means they could get anything they wanted.i have downloaded the patch now - so im safe. i would suggest to anyone that hasn't yet, do quickly. or if you really want to - change to linux sounds like a good idea!-jimmy
