New Site Design Hopefully browser-friendly
electriic ink replied to biscuitrat's topic in Art & Creativity
I like your design a lot. Got a few complaints and that's that you should set the border round the valid css image to 0 or 1. Secondly, the doctype is not the reason why your site is only tentavely valid. Add this line of code in between your <head></head> tags and it should work: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Keep your doctype just as it is. The text font is legible when it's big but not as much when it's small. You should increase the text size in the navigation bar. -
Use notepad, that will give you ultimate control over how your website looks. Frontpage will write code for Internet Explorer and I've looked and code created by this program (yes you can tell) with quite a few mistakes. Register for imageshack.us, they host flash files so it won't cost you a kb in bandwidth to have games.

One possible solution seems simple $width = $width + $width; and for $width * 3 do $width = $width + $width + $width;

Pulldown Menu get a realiable php pulldown menu script
electriic ink replied to round's topic in Programming
Don't you mean a javascript dropdown menu? One where the user clicks the arrow and a list of options comes down for a user to select. I've never heard of one for php before so if I'm wrong please excuse me. Here's the code <select name="name"><option value="cars"> Cars </option><option value="books"> Books </option><option value="trains"> Trains </option></select> It creates the same thing as is shown when you hit the reply button and you see FONT, SIZE and COLOR -
And now my third animation.... Writing On Plastic After 33 frames and 45 mins it's complete I personally don't like it that much, I much prefer my avator which only had 15 frames. Next time I'll do one of those.... Rating, comments and suggestions on this one....

And the likelihood is that people won't want to read them. Glad you're not doing that. Each site has it's own theme which fits in with what the user likes doing. Blogs are ideal for this but since they're so boring and half of them send me to sleep in the first half page, do something else. If you want traffic think of something interesting and original. Base your site on your favourite sport or activity. You could base it on games but you do you need to attract visitors with something because I can think of a million and one games sites. Attract them with... No ads Great graphics A variety of types of games A good layout and clear navigation On the other hand you could make your site a clan site (if you're a member of one) or a site which gives tutorials about php. Although there are many of those around aswell, few provide a massive library. Those many with just three or four don't attract many visitors. These are just a few of the many things you can base your site on. When you do decide what you're doing, always ask yourself "If I were someone else, would I go on this site?"

I presume you're talking about the security bar at the top of the internet explorer page. I think somehow you've managed to disable flash from your own site. Try clicking on the bar, clicking options and seeing from there if there's any way you could've made it so ie blocked it.I've never had this problem before but it's my first guess at trying to resolve it...

electriic ink replied to electriic ink's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Thanks for your comments. 9/10 is a very good score To create the frames I used PaintShopPro 9 and to create the animation and do the text effects I used AnimationShop3. -
I have made a new avator and I would like people to rate it. I posted it here because this topic doesn't seem to fit in any of the photoshop subforums. Perhaps make a new one called Other? Back on topic, here is my new avator.... Any comments or ratings?

I Have Less Credits That I Should Why its that so
electriic ink replied to sader's topic in Web Hosting Support
Well, you feel into the same "hole" as I did. When they say it requires at least 10 credits, thery're not joking. They take every credit you have off you and give you back 2. I lost over 200 credits through this (a small amount compared to what you lost.) 1.99 credits means you can stay active for 1.99 days. 0.01 credits goes down every 15 mins or so. -
How To: Create And Install Your Own Cursor a step by step guide using animation shop (a program free with paint shop pro) Requirements: Animation Shop (can be found on the same disk as Paint Shop Pro) Any image Are you displeased with the cursor you've got? Are you dissatisified with those cursors you downloaded from that site? Then this tutorial's for you. Read on... Create or download your favourite image off the web. Open it in some image editing software (ie Paint Shop Pro) and resize it to 15x15. In Paint Shop go to Image --> Resize. Enter 15 in the width box and 25 in the height box. Your image should now be about so high and so wide: Save the image as cursor1.jpg in the My Pictures folder. You can create more images if you wish to create and animated cursor. Save these as cursor2.jpg, cursor3.jpg etc Open animation shop (File --> Jasc Software Products --> Launch Animation Shop ) and hold down the keys Shift and A. The animation wizard should come up: Click Next four times and then click add images. Locate to the My Pictures folder and select cursor1.jpg. If you wish to create an animated cursor, you should have created more images earlier on. Add these images on now. Click Next then Finish. You may add any effects to your animated cursor at this time. Because this tutorial is aimed mainly at beginners, we will not go into this. Go to File --> Save As. Locate to the My Pictures folder and call your cursor cursor. From the dropdown list Animated Cursor (*.ani) even if your cursor is not animated. So now you have successfully created and saved your cursor. Now we are going to make it the default cursor. Go to Start --> Control Panel If available on the left menu under Control Panel click Switch to Classic View Double click on Mouse Click on the tab Pointers Go to Normal Select and click Browse Select the file cursor.ani under My Pictures Click OK and close Control Panel And there you should have it, your own cursor created and installed. Any questions regarding this tutorial?
Edit (made 5/11/06 - Fireworks Night):
Please note: This tutorial was done in Paint Shop Pro 9 and Animation Shop 3 The procedure may differ slightly from the current versions.

True and I could start about doing this, but with both javascript and php there are many ways you could set about customizing and alerting the script: Change... <a onMouseDown=\"changeImage('imga','" . $i . $imgayes . "')\" onMouseUp=\"changeImage('imga','" . $i . $imgano . "')\"> \n<img src=\"" . $i . $imgano . "\" alt=\"\" name=\"imga\"> \n</a> ... To .... Click <a onMouseDown=\"changeImage('imga','" . $i . $imgayes . "')\" onMouseUp=\"changeImage('imga','" . $i . $imgano . "')\"> here </a> to change the image below <br> <br> \n<img src=\"" . $i . $imgano . "\" alt=\"\" name=\"imga\"> \n And you will be able to click on "here" to change the image to change the image rather than clicking on the actual image itself. This script could be used on a navigation system on a website but you can adapt it and use it in many other places
-
Wait for a few seconds give your browser time to load the image. The change onMouseDown is immediate, the loading isn't. That was the point of the link so that the user could break the url to one of the images and test out the error that the script gives if one of the files cannot be found. I added that in so users could test the script. Right and it does. If you connection is slow and the image is big (one of them is only 1.5kb) then it will take time because it's has to load the image. I'm running on 56k with 8 other internet windows open and it only took about 0.5 seconds the first time.

How To: Change An Image When A User Clicks On It using both php and javascript - a powerful combination I have seen quite a few how tos offering a method of doing this but none of which resembled my method of making use of both php and javascript. This code is fairly repetitive and most of the functions are easy to pick-up if you haven't heard of them before. Here it is... Create your two images. Call them anything you like, you'd just need to change their filenames in $imgano $imgayes. In fact with this script you can easily create more than one pair of two images, as many as you like! Create a php file. You can call it anything you like. Now for the coding. Very easy. Most of it is just variables. All FAQ for the code is remmed but feel free to ask if you don't understand <!-- DOCTYPE --><html> <head> <!-- CHARSET ENCODING --><?$url = "http://site.trap17.com/"; /* The homepage of your site */$i = "images/"; /* The directory where you store your images */$imgano = "1up.jpg"; /* What image to display when the mouse ISN'T down button a */$imgayes = "1down.jpg"; /* What image to display when the mouse IS down button a */$imgbno = "subx.jpg"; /* What image to display when the mouse ISN'T down button b */$imgbyes = "subj.jpg"; /* What image to display when the mouse IS down button b */ /* Add more buttons or take them away at will. This will require editing further on */$notfound = "The following files could not be found: \n<br>\n<br>\n"; /* What header to display when one of the images can't be found */if(!file_exists($i . $imgano)) { $filesnull = $filesnull . "<br>" . $url. $i . $imgano;}if(!file_exists($i . $imgayes)) { $filesnull = $filesnull . "<br>" . $url . $i . $imgayes;}if(!file_exists($i . $imgbno)) { $filesnull = $filesnull . "<br>" . $url. $i . $imgbno;}if(!file_exists($i . $imgbyes)) { $filesnull = $filesnull . "<br>" . $url. $i . $imgbyes;}if ($filesnull) { echo $notfound . $filesnull; exit;} /* Checks for missing images using fileexists(). Creates, displays $filesnull and $notfound and exits if images can't be found. This allows us to create our own customized 404 error messages */ echo " <script language=\"javascript\" type=\"text/javascript\"> function changeImage(nameofimg, urlofimg){ document.images[nameofimg].src=urlofimg;} </script> "; /* BASIC javascript which changes the images */?> <!-- BLA --></head><body><!-- BLA --><? /* Reopen php to write the images to change. Remove or add more if neccessary */ echo "<a onMouseDown=\"changeImage('imga','" . $i . $imgayes . "')\" onMouseUp=\"changeImage('imga','" . $i . $imgano . "')\"> \n<img src=\"" . $i . $imgano . "\" alt=\"\" name=\"imga\"> \n</a> \n\n\n<a onMouseDown=\"changeImage('imgb','" . $i . $imgbyes . "')\" onMouseUp=\"changeImage('imgb','" . $i . $imgbno . "')\"> \n<img src=\"" . $i . $imgbno . "\" alt=\"\" name=\"imgb\"> \n</a> "; ?></body></html> Put that code in your php file and save it and as long as the images are there you will have your changing images If you want to see an example of this code, click here So that's it. I'll understand if this gets deleted because of the tutorial like this but I'll just thought I'd share my knowledge. Any questions/comments?

From what I've seen it can take a maximum of 4 to 5 days. Most requests I've seen have been answered in one and a half days, sometimes less.
-
If you think about it, that request does defeat the point of hosting credits. If you want your account to stay active you post to increase them to the amount of days that you are away. Simple.
