  1. Topics in all subforums of The Internet, which includes Web Design, need to be approved before you can see them. I have approved your topic and you can now see it: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/59209-cms-for-video-embedding-flash/
  2. Intelligent people have high grades and a good IQ but having high grades and a good IQ does not make you intelligent. Even, Binet, the creator of the IQ test agrees that something like intelligence can not be quantified on a linear scale so there are major flaws in the IQ testing system. Anyway, I think this serves as conclusive proof that being American, blonde-haired and female makes you naturally stupid: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ In all seriousness, though, stereotypes are just harmless fun when used in moderation and inoffensively. Everyone falls into some category and you just have to live with it...
  3. Basically, yes. I doubt themes will work though because the design of the browser has changed so much since Firefox 2. For instance, this is Noia 2.0 (eXtreme), which is designed for Firefox 2, under Firefox 3: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png Looks pretty crappy...
  4. How To Disable Firefox's Awesome Bar Many people are struggling to find the benefits of the so-called Awesome Bar as one member so truthfully pointed out, the smart tag makes your viewing "illicit" sites more obvious, particularly when people are peering over as you're typing keywords in Anyway, for those of us who are too lazy to clear their history at the appropriate times, there are two steps to disabling its function entirely: Type about:config into the location bar and change the value browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped to true. After this, you need to restart Firefox. All this does is make it so that Firefox only searches the URLs you have typed and not the titles of pages. Install the Old Location Bar extension. This changes the location bar so that it looks like how it looked in Firefox 2. As of me writing this post, it is an experimental addon so you will need to register to the Firefox addon service to install it. Hope this helps!
  5. On the topic of extensions, I think it's amazing how little you actually rely on them. Whenever Firefox is upgraded I always manage to uninstall all but five or six of my extensions just because when they suddenly don't work, I realise that they weren't that necessary at all. Besides, all the popular extensions like Adblock and ForecastFox have been compatible with Fx3 since the beta versions came out. On top of that, quite a few extensions are actually compatible with the newest version despite claiming they're not. To find out if your old extensions are compatible, type about:config into the address bar awesome bar , find extensions.checkCompatibility and set the value to "false". (You may need to create a new boolean value yourself if it doesn't exist. To do this, right click anywhere, select New -> Boolean - the rest should be fairly obvious.) Be aware this might damage your browser. If it does, start Firefox in safe-mode and simply change the said value to "true". My only really concern would be that Firefox 3.0.0.0 is quite vulnerable and there will be many security fixes come 3.0.0.1. But this isn't really much cause for concern; if you're careful and only browse respectable sites, you'll be fine.
  6. Funny that. You'd have thought all those millionaires in the Western Saharan and Guinea-bissau would be downloading these luxurious pieces of software at an alarming rate (that is after they'd bought their computer, bought a modem, hired a telephone line and paid for the Internet). On a less sarcastic note, 8.3 million downloads is quite an achievement though. It might not sound like much but it works out at 96 per second. However, I wonder how many of these downloaders will still be using Firefox in a month's time...
  7. The thing I don't understand about this is that it's now about 12.30pm over here (UK), which must mean that in the USA, midnight passed hours ago. Why is it, then, that Fx3 is still unavailable if it's the 17th of June in all major cities? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ <-- still only vers 2.0.0.14 available
  8. You don't. (Or at least not actively.) If he thinks your trying to convert him, it'll annoy him and weaken your relationship with each other. Just imagine he kept pestering you to "ditch the whole God thing" and how you'd feel about that...
  9. Which reminds me about that comet that supposed to hit the Earth on Easter Sunday in the 2030s. * researches * Actually, the chance is 99.998% that it won't hit the Earth! So much for that idea. The fact that it's meant to hit the Earth 2000 years after Jesus was resurrected and on exactly the same day of the year, though, ignites the superstitious side of me no end. We shall see.
  10. In other words they go to a poor country where people are desperate for clean water, food, sanitation or w/e. Then they say: "convert to our religion and we'll relieve of your poverty by building you churches and periodically handing you food. If you don't, we'll bugger off, help someone else and leave your community to starve". Remind me what Jesus said about the good Samaritan and "[loving] thy neighbour". Missionaries are not caring people with genuine concerns about third-world poverty. When these missionaries go to other countries, they first goal is to convert and their second priority is to help. Why do Christians prefer to donate to Christian Aid rather than religiously unspecific charities if their primary aims are the same?
  11. Sounds like a very clever marketing ploy. I might buy into it. Firefox is a very good browser and it looks like their struggling with the competition, otherwise they wouldn't need to stage cheap tricks like this to gain some more of the market share.I signed up though. If I'm going to download it I might as well do it on the "right" day...
  12. Anyway, if the Daily Mail gets hold of this, I shall be going down to Tesco on December the 19th to laugh at everyone grabbing the last tins of SPAM and wadded beef from the shelves. Should be a riot One day, though, one of these predictions will be right - there's one for every day of every year.
  13. There are three reasons why Russia should not have won: The song was not sung in Russian The song was not written by a Russian The violinist in the performance was not Russian http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Which leaves me wondering ... what part of it was actually Russian?! I do wonder why we still enter - we contribute so much money to that contest yet we know we have not a hope in winning. Maybe we should enter in a serious song next year and not some joke-cheesy-pop and see what happens...
  14. That's good satire. Thank you for that I liked this one too: http://www.adequacy.org/stories/2001.12.28.55410.553.html
  15. God, I'd hate to have a last day at your school. Ours was amazing if it is any consolation :DJust be happy in the fact that you won't have to see any of those teachers again I think it's more that she was trying to regain some of the control that teachers feel is lost on the last day, with everyone defacing the uniform and sounding air horns and stuff. Hopefully your last day of Year 13 will be slightly better
  16. It's because people think it's "cool" and "popular" to jump on the we-hate-Microsoft bandwagon. Sure, there are a few bugs and bad experiences but no product's perfect. The irony of it all is is that most people who complain about how terrible Vista, continue to use it at home anyway!
  17. That was hilarious - damn those Kyrgyzstanians! With regards to the OP's story though, I'd have to say that there's more to it than is being told. I mean no-one is that stupid - I reckon he was trying to piss her off or trying to give her an excuse to end the relationship.
  18. Although I don't really care that much about the US elections, so I wouldn't really know the answer to the question, my guess would be that Hilary's would be the first female president and she's an ex-President's wife so she's a lot easier to make a fuss over, hence the increased attention. What I do find funny about it all is that if Hilary gets elected, the last four presidents would be Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton. Aren't you glad you live in a democracy?
  19. I agree with dunkjmcd on this rather minor issue. You can create some very good javascripts that look like email applications that compensate for contact form's lack of interface. By using mailto: links, you're asking for spam, either from bots or other people. It's a brilliant design though. The only thing I can criticise it with is that when you click on a link and end up on a page, like this one *, the logo in the top-left does not take you back to the homepage.
  20. When it doubt, consult Wikipedia: Improvements: Largely security-based updates then Also, this service pack removes the Windows Taskbar address bar (whatever that is), so if you use that regularly, I wouldn't install the pack. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP
  21. Use Notepad. You'll learn best and quickest that way because you won't have some program filling in function names and with cut-and-paste PHP code, doing half the work for you. It will force you to do it all yourself.
  22. Good luck with the English (you probably need it, you spelt tedious wrong in the title ) but seriously, good luck. :lol:But, anyway, don't worry too much about the SATs; the most they count for is what groups you get put in for your GCSEs and even they're subject to change once you start the course.Got my GCSEs this year; first exam in 8 days!
  23. Lol - the "can't someone else do it?" attitude. But anyway, someone has, the NHS run numerous stop-smoking programmes, advertise on TV and lots more. Help is there. But no-one is forcing people to quit as it's their personal choice and withdrawing free help for cancer victims caused by smoking would be seen as taking away that right to choice. Because of this right, there will always be some people who choose against and they have the right to get free treatment. You do know Fat Fighters isn't a real weight-loss club?! Anyway, I am not fat myself and I do not know any fat people although I do know of fat people. I'm sure they wouldn't want to be diet-buddies with me even if I were fat. Life's not as simple as you make it out to be... That's because you make the choice to do free-running totally independently. Your parents didn't take you free-running with friends from a young age, like fast-food addicts were; and the media did not pressure you to either. Never underestimate the power of parents and the media. Also, if you did fall, I bet you would expect the government to provide you with nurses and a hospital bed, despite knowingly undertaking those risks. By advertising their food as healthy, they are persuading the more health-conscious people to join and perhaps eat some of their less healthy food. The power of the media. And because fast-food addicts were and still are, under their control, as it were, they keep on going; it is not their fault: they should get free help. Chips are easier than salad. Salad takes time to prepare. Cutting up all the fruits and vegetables etc... It might sound stupid but that is their mentality and they won't see the other way. It is, whatever you say, still easier just to go down to McDonalds. Besides that, you can't have salad every night because it would get bland and boring. Again, the social impact of the media means that it is not the addicts' fault. Why do you therefore not agree that help should be provided for them to stop? Tis a good discussion...
  24. The thing is is that it really isn't. Just have to press a few more keys on your keyboard. If these are the 18 most annoying things about Windows then it's a pretty good OS. I mean, you criticise it for not having a pre-installed web-server. Come on. What is the likelihood of Joe Blogs needing to do that? If you do, though, just download the 4MB installer from Apache. As I said, this article is a piss-take...
  25. People aren't perfect - they make mistakes. Don't tell me you've never done something that endangers your health or personal safety just because it seems like a good idea at the time. (If you haven't, you will). The thing about smoking is you do it once and you find you're not addicted yet, you do it again and until you do find yourself addicted. It draws you into a false sense of security. No, that would be stupid. FatFighters People aren't taking them up because they're lazy and these weight-loss "clubs" cost money. People are by nature inconsiderate to the future and despite how much they get told, don't quite comprehend the consequences of their actions. Why do think people still take drugs? They know the risks inside out, sure, but something about human nature does not stop them doing it. It's not a fault with the addicts specifically, it's a fault with people in general. Put yourself in the situation where you go to a party, all your friends are smoking and they offer you one, what do you do? Deny? They'll only keep bugging you until you do... No vegetables in your quick meal suggestions then?! For all the good a meal of sausages, pasta and instant mash potato will do you, you might as well be eating burgers - at least they come with lettuces and tomatoes in them!
