  1. It's a very subjective and philosophical topic. I think considering your circumstance (your example), it depends on whether you intend the counciler to tell the police or not. If you have done it just because your good wishes and intention towards a friend...and you did your best to make sure that your friend's case would not reach the police, then you haven't done anything wrong. OK, this friend might be unlucky...and you might be one of the factors...which brought him into prison, but it would be wrong to put all the blame on you because, after all, you have done it with good intention and wishes...and you didn't intend all this mess to happen at all.Given that now this guy is in prison, yes I would think good guy would try and get him out by legal process (on bail)...But I wouldn't agree that a guy who told the councillor is a bad person....because after all it's not what he intended...and if he had done his best to make sure that his friend would only be helped and the case would not reach an official, then you can't blame him.
  2. Hey....When I was younger...studying in my home country and learning English as my second language, I always wanted to go and study in either the US or the UK. I wanted to be a bilingua. Then towards the end of my high school, I won the scholarship to study law in the UK. Since then I have become fluent in English. I'm now doing law at Oxford Uni. So I think as for studying, I have achieved what I wanted (more or less). Now I hope I'll be able to do well at uni...and in the future contribute back to my home country to pay back for the scholarship they have given me. There's one dream though that hasn't come true and is unlikely to come true. --- being a singer (or a singing teacher...in fact just want to spend most of my time singing or working with music...) I have always wanted to work in music profession (since I was 3-4). Well,...it's such a contrast to what I'm doing right now (law), isn't it. I like law though. Only that I wish I could be a singer too.
  3. Hey, yes I do live in Europe (although I'm not enjoying summer holiday in my home country ). I wanted to reserve a copy, but I won't be back in the UK til Sep so I couldn't. Can't wait to read it!!
  4. Well, I think it's a generalisation to say that violence is a result of violent games. There are many things which influence violent behaviours. Games might be one of them for certain children eg those who play violent games unsupervised, or those who don't socialise or talk to people and whose parents are never at home.So some people who play violent games are not at all affected by them.On the contrary, some people don't play games but develop violent behaviours from elsewhere eg telly, society etc.
  5. Doraemon was the one I watched sooooooo often and soooo much when I was young. I think I had almost all of them..(and I have watched them again and again). That was a long time ago though.
  6. Yes yes, the HArry Potter books. Couldn't stop once I started. They were all very good.Sooo into it. I had fantasy dreams a few nights after reading them. haha...They are so cool! Next one is coming out soon too.
  7. The new Harry Potter (the sixth one) is already coming out (July, isn't it). I have just had a chance to catch up with the Harry Potter books. They are all amazing. Once I started, I just couldn't stop. Not only do I feel like I have to continue to read til the end of the book, but also once I have finished one I sooo much want to read the next book. Was just wondering now which one you like best (out of the five)?I think I like the third one most (the prisoner of Azkaban). It's just a perfect jig-saw...all pieces were put together soo well, and filled with unexpected events/ circumstances.Just can't wait to read the next one.Has anyone reserved a copy?
  8. I think Peak has already said that there's no such thing as the best movie...because it's all very subjective and dependent onyour criteria of judging (effect, sound, acting, scene etc)But for me,I think Lord of the Ring, Harry Potter, and Star Wars (all the six episodes) are brilliant. The first Harry wasn't as good as the rest..But well, Harry Potter books+ stories are goog enough to keep our interest.
  9. I would build a nice house (not too big...but just nice and comfortable)....Buy a dog (either St.Bernard or Golden). Most important thing in my house, there needs to be the grand piano.I would also have a music room (sound-proof) built in my house...And I would have another room installed with all the computer-based recording studio equipment. I 'll buy my mom and dad a gigantic house in an adjacant land...give them all servants. And...perhaps build also a swimmin pool, gym, and a driving range for them. I would probably establish a school. Donate some money. Then save the rest for my future kids!
  10. When I was doing GCSEs, there were 6 beds per dorm. For Lower Sixth, it's shring between 2 people (each gets a bed-sit).Then upper sixths get their own rooms. My room is actually a reasonable-sized one. I don't think it's that small.(although yes..books take lota space.anyway, I really enjoy living in it though. The school is divided into 11houses (just imagine Harry Potter- it's like that). People in a house are really close together and we have things like house dance.etc.
  11. When I was about 9, I collided with a bicycle!(clumsy me) I was just running and I knew there was a bicycle behind me.....going the same direction. I thought I would run to the left to aoide it...So did the cyclist (He wanted to avoid me and went to the left)...I wasn't aware...as...I was running forward and didn't turn to see. Then he crashedddd...from behind..I fell forward...trousers torn...blood coming off..etc.
  12. I think I'll tell you a story of my cousin's.Basically, everyone in my country, when they are born, will be given by their parents nicknames, along with first name.Nicknames are used amongst friends, classmates, and family...while first names are used as official names (i.e. in office or between teachers and students....and between people who don't know each other very well). So nicknames are usually anything that parents like e.g.(already translated into English) orange, apple, sand, sea, dice, peach, palm, bird, cat, yelly, ice-cream, prawn etc. So my nickname is Tao -- translation = dice. And Peak's nickname is just 'peak' because his dad was doing a reserach whenhe was born...and the research involved graphs (with Peaks)One of my council (a girl) is called Amp. However, due to her hair style (in the first year of secondary school) , her friends all called her 'mushroom'. They all called her that for 3 years (of secondary school)..Once, it was a school-parents meeting. Amp's mum met all the girls' mums....And one of the mums asked 'Why did you name(nickname) your child Mushroom?' 'Do you like Mushroom' ?!?
  13. What about PAula?it means someone with intelligence (or academic or a clever person)
  14. Hey,I knew what the word meant, so don't worry! You are not using a word that doesn't exist. I think I would be an activist for something I strongly believe in.And...I have shown signs of being one...Basically, I usually fight for my rights and what I am entitled for. Certainly, if something concerns someone else (but I believe in its cause) then I would fight for it too...just for the sake of justice...and fairness.
  15. I tend to agree to some of you that there is really no BEST MOVIE of all time. It's not easy to compare special effect, sound effect of different periods.
  16. i'm all right. but i feel a bit desperate to find some posts to answer. haha..
  17. swimming in a local pool.
  18. My favourite cartoon has got to be Tom and Jerry. Iwatched it since i was four or five and i still watch it now, fifteen years later. i also like many Japanese cartoons. My favourite one is Doraemon. Don't know if you guys heard of that. it's about a boy and a cat-like robot from the future who has many cool futuristic tool such as a door that take you anywhere you want, a torch that make you smaller etc.
  19. I played the clarinet in a marching band for almost 6 years. (in school). It was fantastic....because we were all really close and became really good friends.So....the band practice was something we all looked forward to.I also sang in school choir..and sometimes solo-ed in school activities. I enjoyed it a lot. (I sang mainly pop) I also play a traditional instrument at the National Cultural centre.(for 6-7 years). All enjoyable. Doing this outside school made it more interestingbecause I met all those new people in the band. However, after moving to UK, it's become more difficult to get involved.First of all, it seems like..everybody can sing! What's more, they sing in a completely different way. (very different use of voice). To make matter worse,at college, choir introduced an audition!!! Totally shut out people who just wannasing for fun. (just like a big deterence) I'm still singing in a choir outside college...As for clarinet, lessons in the UK cost sooo much. I just have to play by myself now.But it's sometimes difficult to make big progress, when you don't have a poper teacher.
  20. I have had an account for over a year now. I use it from time to time to pay for items bought in Ebay. I haven't had any problems so far. But i am aware of the scams and yeah you risk losing money if your password is known or hacked into by another person. That's why youre advised to change your passwod every now and then.
  21. Yeah i used to love Ebay. I bought loads of things on it and i also sell some stuff too. But now i find it more difficult to get things i want fom ebay coz it's not cheaper when adding shipping+handling. Most of stores also now have price reduction every now and then so i don't need to bid on Ebay anymore. I still use Ebay to sell some stuff though.
  22. Yep, Totally agree there. But i guess those pop-up makers only need people to click on 2-3 % of their ads. Thank god, now we have pop-up blocker on computer. Pop-ups are nasty sometimes... spywares, adware, virus etc.
  23. I use both WMP and Real player. Most of the time i use Real for my music (coz i store them there) and WMP for everthing else (coz it open automatically ;-P). Also streaming football only come in WMP, it wouldn't open in Real.* everytime i tried to type WMP i often mistyped it as WMD (weapon of mass dstruction) first...hurrr...
  24. I like RED when i play sports. That's because i supports LIverpool i guess. But recently, a researcher found that in a random sport event, a player/team that wears red won more often. As for the reason? they are finding out. For clothes, i like BLUE or any of darker colour...oh and BLACK too. I guess it's typical of male preference. Other than that i quite like PINK. I particular like girls dressing in pink ;-P
  25. Don't listening to music with headphones while riding man, it's dangerous!!By the way, i prefer speaker...simply because i hate having thing hanging around my ears or neck.
