  1. Hey,I spent much time in my life away from home too. (study abroad). But I haven't travelled much. I love Scandinevia so far.I only went to Oslo, Stockhom, Coenhagen and Arhus (in Denmark).I think I love the quality of life and people there. I especially love the kindness and generosity of people in Oslo (Norway). One instance was that....just before Christmas when I was there. I saw a lots of very small children (4-5 years old) in groups. Each groups was led a teacher...they were walking to the same direction and they each had a nicely wrapped present in their hands. They were all walking to a big christmas tree, where there was a huge bag full of presents....the presents were to be sent to poorer children. I think the kids were all really sweet and they were learning how to share things with human race.Another instance was when Peak (my bf) and I were walking in town and taking photos. An old Norwegian person actually stopped us and said 'shall I take a photo for you'. It was just really nice. And another instance was when we were on the train to the suberb....we were going to the Ski museum (where ski olympic is held). So the train was gonna go a bit up the mountain and stuff. Peak and i was sitting together next to the window on one side of the train. A local girl went up to us and said 'why don't you go and sit on another side....next to the other window, the view/scenery is going to be nicer on that side. They were all offerring help without us even asking. I was very impressed. Love that holiday
  2. For me, I think it's 'memory' from Cats (Musical). But it'll be at its best (you will be most into it) when you listen to it in the theatre when you watch Cats. It's not as good anywhere else.I also prefer if it's sung musically, rather than when it's sung operatically.
  3. Mine is 'Countdown' on BBC4.It's a game show, requiring maths and Engkish skill. It's great fun. I don't watch it that much anymore, though. The programme I watch most often (although not necessarily my favourite, but might be) is 'breakfast' every morning on BBC 1...It's just news and stuff...and also weather forecast! (that's really important...so I know what to wear that day ) haha
  4. Yeah... Chelsea is boring even though they now only won one in five matches. The core thought of this Russian sugar daddy thingy is "Money can't by you love" which proved so true. When Man Utd beat Chelski 1-0 last weekend, the whole nation, if not the whole world, was cheering on them. I, as a Liverpool fan, find it hard to admit cheering on Man Utd, but i'm sure ost of us did.
  5. Yes the Swedish Goddess is back......No managers are perfect. FACT!This has been shown with all mangers over the years. However football is becoming more important every year due to the finances now days. Competition has increased, which inevitably means standards and quality has risen. Manchester United have found this over the last few years a big problem. They used to be able to loose five or even more matches a season and STILL win the Premiership. However Arsenal and Chelsea have shown that teams cannot afford to loose that many matches anymore.Hence as Liverpool fans, along with the other top clubs, we are seeking for near perfection on decision making, especially key ones. Rafa showed last season that he was not afraid to make hard, bold decisions for the good of the club. This was shown with Carragher switching to become a centre back, which was inspired, for many obvious reasons. The signing of Alonso, for Liverpool to continue the pass and move football, which the fans love and has made the club so successful. The adoption of the 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 formation in Europe last season. It allowed the team to play to its strengths and led to the winning of the European Cup. Etc EtcBenitez has followed these key decisions of last season. The signing of Sissoko looks to be sound, with a eye on the future as well as the present. Keeping Hamann, who has been brilliant for this club, has given added depth to the squad. Etc EtcHowever, Benitez like ALL other managers isn?t perfect. This is to be expected. Not playing Hamann in the European Cup final was asking for trouble and trouble occurred. Not signing a right winger and centre back (although he has tried) is a problem. Isolating Crouch is a problem. Handling of Cisse is a problem. Signings of Josemi and Pellegrino is a problem. But Rafa has a key characteristic, unlike Houiller. Rafa will listen and evaluate when something is not right and he will change it. Hamann came on in the second half against AC Milan and Rafa knew he has made a mistake. Crouch is now playing with a partner and is no longer isolated. Gerrard is playing on the right and offering us width and quality, which has given the side an extra dimension. Now we should not be looking for a perfect manager as I don?t think there is a manger that makes every correct decision as football is about opinions. Therefore someone is always not going to agree. Although we should be looking for a manager who is progressing. Who is not stubborn enough to change things if they are not working. (Ferguson, Wenger, Houiller Etc)Benitez is that??.. I like that characteristic about him. However I worry he makes change too late, when he should work out the solutions earlier.
  6. I'm not really surprised. I mean I go to University of Oxford (in England) and my college has banned Skype too since last year. But I think the reason is more like security- based. I think it's quite strange to ban it...It's such a good thing for international students, like us.
  7. Oh my god! I was surprised to see this topic..."have you ever used drugs." First, I thought people won't reply that they do. But it turns out they do. haha Anyway, I haven't used drugs and will never. I think it's scary.
  8. When I hear aout Walmart (I'm not in the US), the first thing I think about is the movie called 'where the heart is' starring Natalie Portman....in which she gave birth to a baby in Walmart. haha It's a good film
  9. i hate reading from computer screen!I always have to print things off first, which is a waste really...But my eyes do hurt, if I just read from laptop all the time.
  10. Hey, interesting topic.I think it's my routine way to start the day, rather than favourite way really.i don't know if i like it or not (quite neutral about it)...but it 's the way things have to go really.I wake up usually after my second or third alarm clock rang. Turned on telly and the computer (to check my email, in case my lectures get cancelled or sth)...have a cup of coffee..Then go for breackfast in the college's dining hall (usually porridge and some cooked breakfast e.g. sausage, bacon, egg)...And if I have lecture at 9am, will just cycle straight to the faculty. My faourite way of starting my day would be...hmm...think when I wake up just because I wake up and not because I have to wake up. (if that makes sense )
  11. I still don't really get why bird flu would cause you to leave the internet?hmm
  12. I think it's quite international.I go to University in England and they do celebrate....they had parties and stuff. Also I was on this bus that night, which someone throw an egg at. Luckily, it didn't get inside the bus. (This was kinda scary though)...And people do walk around in strange costumes haha
  13. I would stick with brown actually. These days people do change their eyes colour by wearing coloured contact lens.To be honest, some of them just don't suit...for example, a chinese girl here wear purple contact lens Of someone with black hair, constantly wearing gold lens looks a bit strange. But well, some do look cool e.g. in fancy party or sth
  14. Strange...I'm beginning to listen to Classic FM a lot..This is mainly because I have too much work to do...and I feel soo stressed and I was advised that classical music can calm me down...So...guess it kinda work.
  15. I think I like number 1 the most. But...I have always been associated with number 12.My house in thailand is number 12.My first house in UK... number 24 (which is 12x2)My second house in the UK....number 12.I was also born on 24th.
  16. Tao goes to University of Oxford and does law.Peak goes to University of Bristol and does law.
  17. Hey,My website started here...hosted by Xisto at around Christmas last year.I wanted to make it something like my (or our) world. So just make some spaces to write anything we want such as experiences of being an international student in the UK. But most of the stuff in my website is not in English. We intended to write some stories in English though...but not yet.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  18. Yes when I saw this topic I thought about dice and die too! The correct one is mice.
  19. Hey,My first name is Pimpida. This means Sunlight. (nice, isn't it?)PEople in my home country also have nicknames. So a full name is used in official and legal context and with teachers or professors. But nicknames are used amongst friends and family. Usually full name will be long and meaningful...whereas nicknames can be anything that your parents like (esp when you mom was pregnant) such as 'orange, sea, sand, cat, bird, song, cotton, dice, prawn, etc. I know it's funny
  20. I haven't used Asta before. To be honest, this is the first time I have heard of it. But well, I found out about trap by google search, if I remember correctly.I'm quite happy with Trap so far.
  21. Haha I know it's such a rapid technology development here.So..I still use all, I think.I have tapes, though I generally use CD players, CD walkman. And MP3. I haven't caught up with technology by using Ipod yet!
  22. Haha...look at it in another respects..what I thought about when I saw this statement is that...., say, 'if you love someone or value someone, tell them because tomorrow might be too late'. I always think about it this way.
  23. HEy,I think it's powerful especially if you practise how to control it.Everything depends on the state of mind. If you think you can do sth and you are really determined, you can do it. On the other hand, if you wish you could do sth...but you always think you can't do it...you can't do it.
  24. Just to clarify what I said above"Say....there'll be about 8 law students in each college. 7 PPE students in each college...etc. They all go to the same faculty, same lecture, do same subjects, sit in same examinations. "What I mean is....say, there are 8 law students in St.Hilda's college, there are 5 law students in Corpus Christy College, there are 10 law student in University College. (All the colleges= part of Oxford Uni). So...all those law students go to same lectures, at the sam place, do the same subjects, sit the same exams. This is also the case for other subject. So each college has students of all the subjects. (read my comment above. )
  25. Generally, University is where you learn to get a degree (undergrad or post grad) whereas College is just an institution where you can get some eduation such as private college where you can learn A-level and stuff. In UK, though, there are three universities, namely Oxford Cambridge and Druham, which consist of many colleges (this is an exception and it makes you get confused about the distinction....just remember that this is an exception). At Oxford, there are, say, more than 30 colleges. Each college is a complete community. Say....there'll be about 8 law students in each college. 7 PPE students in each college...etc. They all go to the same faculty, same lecture, do same subjects, sit in same examinations. But college is just a community. It's where you stay. It's where you eat. It's where you play. Teaching at Oxford is based on tutorial system...so apart from the lectures and stuff which we all go to the same place (same class), there are also tutorials. i.e. 1 tutor per 2 students in a class. So each college will have their own tutors in all the subject...say for law, there are two tutors at my college. (1 tutor in some colleges, and 3 in others). Those tutors will conduct some tutorials for students within college and take care of us generally. (although this situation is already simplified to make it easier to understand). ...So there you go
