  1. Tao is a a thrid year (last year ) lawyer at the University of Oxford, UK.PEak is a fourth year (last year) lawyer of a four-year law course at the University of Bristol, UK.
  2. I have joined many of the schools? and university?s activities. I was the vice president of my school?s Music and Drama Club for 3 years At Oxford, in 2004, I participated in the E-Mentoring program, in which each Oxford student was paired up with one sixth form student, and the purpose of which was to encourage further education. As a mentor, my responsibility involved corresponding with my mentee at least once a week via email to give her advice and answer her questions. In 2005, I applied and was chosen to participate in the Peer Supporting Program. As a part of the Program, I received 30 hours of intensive training (on listening skill, how to help people deal with stress, how to deal with people having suicidal risks, and etc.) by the Oxford University Counseling Service. Upon the completion of the training, I joined the college?s peer support panel, which facilitates necessary welfare service in the college and which is subject to the University?s Counseling Service?s supervision. . Moreover, I am a member of an all- girl choir in Oxford and, in the summer 2001. And I am the Secretary of the Oxford Thai Committee. However, I'm not a part of the college's JCR or students' committee.
  3. Well, I usually feel that it's Monday. But I really wish there were 8 days in a week (5working days, and 3 days for weekend) haha... Anyway, I know a friend who works on Fri- Sun. Then have Mon- Thurs as holiday. So I guess her first day would be Friday or sth. Also during term time, at my university, we feel first day is different day every term depending on our assignment.
  4. Well, No..I haven't been arrested..and I hope I wont be. haha Anyway, we have been called by the traffic police though...for example, speeding..etc
  5. I used to sleep 6 hours a day...and I did that for about 5-6 years. Now I think I sleep about 7-8 hours a day. Well, of course, once a week, all lawyers at my university would stay up all night to finish weekly essays- although we hae been working hard the whole week.I have heard that it's best to divide a day (24 hours) into 3 parts: 8 hours of sleep; 8 hours of work; and 8 hours of play. Well, sometimes work requires us more than 8 hours a day though. And sometimes I feel .....how come the day ends so fast??? I have hardly noticed I have worked and played for 16 hours!?!
  6. 1.someone who is always bragging....or, to make it worse, someone who does not only brag but always think and act as if they were the best in the world.2. Someone who is never grateful to their country. 3. When someone infringes my rights.
  7. Hey....a lot of sad stories here. I never have such experiences. But I would just like to tell my friend's story. She had such an experience before. I was so sad when I heard about it.When I first met this girl, I was wondering why her eyes always looked so sad. Even when she smiled or laughed, her eyes didn't seem to smile or laugh with her.Then....I found out......When she was about 10, she went on holiday with her family. Beautiful beaches. She went to play in the sea with her family quite a few times, until this happened...She went to swim in the sea. She went further and further from the beach. IT was at low tide, so she walked down and down. There was something strange about/or in the sea...that made her almost drown. She tried....to keep her head up from water....Then it was her father who came and caught her. She was sitting on her father's shoulder now. For a long long time, she was holding her father's head tight. She didn't see or notice anythin because she was so shocked. She was just still crying. It was not until a while later...when someone else came to them...when they all realised...her father had died when he had been helping her. She was sitting on the shoulder of her dead father...
  8. Hey,I think it's hard to say. People are naturally affected/influenced by everything they see and everyone they meet. Yes, parents can be partially blamed. And some cases are more obvious than others. Also in some cases, parents are more to blame than anything else. For example, if the father is addicted to alcohol and is the one who introduced the child to such world of drugs himself, then he's more to blame.Surroundings are also important. Just think about it, why do some people care so much about being famous? Some people care a lot about their images and other people's impression on them. Why is there thing such as fashionable clothes? This means people are definitely influenced either directly or indirectly by people around them. It would also be the case too for children who have become criminals.BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, I BELIEVE, PEOPLE CAN AT LEAST PARTLY CHOOSE THEIR OWN DESTINY! PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE TO BE GOOD PERSONS- NO MATTER WHAT. yes, it's harder to be such a good person if you face with that situation but it's not impossible. They can be so much pressured and they might even be starving to death while refusing to hurt/harm other people. Some children do not take their parents as teir role model or as a sample. They can choose what to take into themselves.
  9. Hey, this is the situation regarding international schools in my home country. Just wanna know what you think. There are two main types of schools in my country: normal school and international school.1. Normal Schools: pupils learn all the subjects in Thai. They, of course, also learn English and other foreign languages such as French or Chinese. Sometimes, they also have the opportunity to study with a native speaker in those subjects. Normal schools also wanna teach their pupils Thai cultures...And they are stricter about keeping own cultures, and they are statistically better in keeping the right balance for pupils (between Thai and foreign cultures)2. International Schools:pupils learn everything in English. This is good because they'll be really good at English and they can meet people whose parents are from different counties but have come to work in Thailand. The problem is Thai students in such schools usually completely forget the Thai culture. So if parents want their child to struck the right balance, they have two main options.- send their child to an international school, but try and teach him/her Thai language and culture themselves. - send their child to a normal school, but send him/her abroad during the summer holiday to learn English and meet people from different countries. What do you think?
  10. I think this is quite a narrow topic ie to compare only the US with the rest of the world.Anyway, I'd prefer traveling in my country or in the EU to traveling in the US.However, there's one reason I wanna visit the US, that is the fact that I wanna see broadways.
  11. Are there many reality shows in your country and which one is your favourite? There are quite a few reality shows here in Thailand. Although sky TV of course shows many of foreign reality shows, we also have our own such as Big Brother etc.My favourite reality show is Academy Fantasia. I think there is this show in other countries as well. It's quite similar to the UK POP Idol. There are many rounds of competition in different region of Thailand to get only 12 real dream catchers/singers and performers to come to live together in a big/nice house. The Sky TV channel 16 shows what is going on in the house 24/7. In other words, you can see it life all the time. So you have the chance to get to know their real personality and what they are studying/practising in the house.Every Monday, each competitor will get a song they will have to work on in that week. They have singing classes, dancing classes, and acting classes every day. We see them (on TV) working really hard- having almost no time to rest. But we also see friendship which develops rather beautifully. They are not allowed to contact people outside at all.Sometimes, the organiser also invites the real singer (the one who sings the song a candidate has been assigned) to come and give all the candidates help. Although competitors are assigned different songs, they are of the same type e.g. duet songs (week3), songs from musical (week5)etc.And there's also a teacher who is the head of the hosue, who takes care of everything in the house. On Friday evening after all the classes, doctor comes into the house to talk to each candidate and give them any medicines they need.On Saturday of every week, competitors are taken to the studio or a huge concert hall to perform what they have been working on the whole week. Many peoplego to support them. Channel 16 shows everything life -- from the time they wake up, taken on the bus to the concert hall, having rehearsal with the band and dancers, dressing up in the dressing room, and the real concert.Commentators give comment at the concert. At the end of the concert, the MC announces those who get the least popular vote in the week, and that person will not be allowed to go back home.I like it a lot because I learn a lot with them in their classes. And seeing theiir personality and their attempt to make their dream come true is fascinating. Tell me about your favourite reality show!
  12. I think there is nothing wrong with homosexual....and I don't mind gay people. Has the cause of being homosexual been proved? If it's because of people's genes and something which that person definitely has got no control, then you shouldn't blame him/her. In other words, if they cannot choose whether they like someone of the same sex or of the different one, then you cannot blame them. Of course, if can be argued that even if they feel that deep down inside they like people of the same sex, but they don't have to express it. In other words, some people reasonably argue that homosexual should just lead normal life as if they are normal guy or girl. But why should they pretend? They have the right to express and be themselves as long as it doesn't harm other people, don't they?
  13. I haven't played this game yet. However, i saw it in an ICT expo 2005 in Thaiand a few days ago. They gives out bags and passwords for everyone to try. The graphic and game play look good to me. Still haven't got time to try it but i deinitely will.

  16. Well, I have been away from my family and my home country for 4 years now. I did my A-level in England and am doing a degree in England too. (mainly because I got an opportunity)I got on with my family fine before i went to England (well, we did argue sometimes), but now I think we get on a lot better (hardly argue and stuff). I think 'absence makes the hearts go fonder'. I think even if you get along really well, there's time that you have to learn how to live your life by yourself too. :DI think living alone in a differrent city does teach you a lot. You'll appreciate those at home (who cook your breakfast, and dinner, who do your washing etc) more. You'll also learn things you can never learn at home. You'll learn to live responsibly, though independently. (well, unless college at home is a lot better than the one away)
  17. Hey, my full name is Pimpida. My nickname is Tao or Dicy. In my home country, everyone names their child by looking at the meaning.(for full name) And we always talk about the meaning of our names when we are at school, learning our own language. Full names are used in school or in official context etc. So Pimpida = Sunlight. In addition to a full name, people here have nicknames- which are for family and friends and those close to them. So nickname can be anything your parents like or you yourself like when you were baby, even orange, apple, cat, bird, piano, song etc.
  18. I got the book on the first day it came out, and finished it the following day. So I know who died, and how that person died. However, I'm not gonna tell you , in case you haven't read it.To be honest, I was so mad with someone who posted a message on a Harry Potter webboard somewhere else telling everyone who died. It's soooo....ahhhhhh The topic was just 'Harry Potter came out today', and someone posted the ending. So I'm not gonna do the same here haha
  19. Hey, I thought this topic would be the least controversial ever..as the answer should certainly be 'NO'. But I read your opinion, and kinda see why you think it is important. I still disagree though. I think when you say 'there has to be people killed in order for others to be reborn'---> this pretence is false. 1. When people die, they don't have to be killed. It can be that they die naturally. They die because they are old. 2. Many people die without hate. They might be killed in, for instance, car accidents. Or those who die of illness, they might be surrounded by their loved ones. There doesn't need to be HATE, in order to keep the balance. Nature keeps its own balance in terms of life and death. If people wanna help keel the balance, they can introduce birth control. But birth control is NOT hate. On the contrary, I think love is the most essential factor for human's existence. At least a scientist would say that 'love and sex creates another human being.' If people all hate each other, wars are all over, that'll be the end of the world. I think love is the erason for existence and hate is the reason for the end.
  20. I'm originally from Bangkok, Thailand. But I have lived in the UK for 4 years. Before I ever came to the UK, I wanted to go there. I used to dream of going to Japan, but not anymore. I wanted to visit Scandinavia, which I did last christmas- I went to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. I would love to go again and maybe go to lapland (most northern part). Maybe, another country is New Zealand.
  21. OK ,I'm telling you about Peak's worst injuries. When he was about 12: One day he was in his class while his classmates were playing around and doing group work. Suddenly, by accident, his mate holding a pair of scissors fell on him. Luckily enough, Peak was wearing glasses-- so the scissors just missed his eye, but got the corner of it. He was rushed off to hospital. The scar is still there. Believe it or not, the next day he suffered another injury on his knee in a basketball match! What a series of unfortunate events!!!
  22. YES I have heard soooooo much about the Davinci Code and Angels and Demons. They are both fantastic (as far as I know). I haven't read them myself, but several of my friends got sooooo addicted to it.My boyfriend (Peak) read the first book too (the English version), and he loves it. Since we are now in Thailand, we have seen a Thai version of it, and another Thai version with all the photos of the place and art pieces, involved in the book-- to make it easier for some people. So i guess it's very famous here too.
  23. Hey,Now that Harry Potter 6 has come out...feel free to comment about it too.
  24. What do you guys like best about your schools/ colleges??I wanna talk about the school in which I did my A-level. I think what I liked best about the school was the tutors and their small classes. The maximum number of students in each class is limited to only 8. And we all receive extensive care, attention....and tutors there are not only tutors, they are like friends and also parents. We had a lot of fun in class.....and we also learn things very well as a result of having small classes. When I was having problems with anything ....e.g. when I need a dentist (I'm oversea student) or sth, the tutor would phone up for me to check. Our maths tutor made notes of all students' birthdays and made chocolate cake for the them (and the class who were also lucky). When I was having the Oxford interview, I was given 4 mocks interviews (4 hours) a week for the whole term by 4 different tutors. They were just really willing to help. They are soo cool! What about you? What do you like best in your school?
  25. Yes, I think it'll be released on 16th July in the UK. Bookshops plan to open at midnight
