IT depends as long as we keep some basic control over the Artifiical 'Beings' (read: Things) then I cant see it going wrong, you know something along the lines of an off switch so if it started maiming innocent people we could just switch it off. This might seem to defeat the object but I dont think the should have emotions, I mean I don't want ny kitchen appliances suddenly not working cause I forgot it was its 1 year 'anniversary' or something like that. So yeah aslong as the people making them have ultimate control I really don't see why it should all go IROBOT on us. And on a little side note seeing as it was mentioned: whats up with the Matrix, why would they want to escape an nice albeit fake world where there are no machines trying to liquify their brains, and they don't have to eat slop in a can.

Well I'm with you I hate GreenDay, I hate the fact that they claim to be rock, but more than that I hate those annoying American Idiot hoodies that are everywhere. I also have a very slight problem with your list of 80's metal bands you missed DIO (look them up). Ronnie James Dio = God.

What's Your Music Player you current music player device
dontmaimyourself replied to hulunes's topic in General Discussion
I've got (well I am supposed to have) a philips HDD 060, its only 1.5GB but it gets the job done, only problem is its broke and I'm still waiting (almost 3 weeks and one return (it was still broke) later) to get it back, anyday now (hopefully) -
I've just heard on the news that there has been a confirmed case in Greece too. Galahad & Kitty- dont wory everywhere is not as prepared as they should be, here in Britain we have about enough for somethig like 14% of the population, so I hope it doesn't keep going. Anyway as it is you can still only catch it from birds, so if you see a flock of birds coming towards you run just to be sure, but seriously though I doubt theres a government on the planet with enough medication to cover even half, maybe even as low as a quater of the population, just goes to show you can never be too prepared. One thing that got me though I heard on the news that there is over demand on regular flu vacinations, which by the way dont help against this, but I suppose when people get into a panic theres very little reasoning.

Its not that impressive but I can make Firefox inline autocomplete urls in the address bar, about:config and add a new boolean value called 'browser.urlbar.autoFill' and set it to true.

While I dont live in London, I do live in England (Darlington, if you care its in Co. Durham). I also think that nothing has changed, in terms of our attitude towards terrorism, very few people (from what I can tell or have heard) are scared of terrorist or scared to use public transportation. All I think has chagned is people are no more aware of terrorism, theres no more of that 'It wont happen to us'. Hell I even think that the area around where I live is a realistic target. I mean theres an Airport, an Army Garrison not a million miles away, and some of the heaviest chemical plants in the country. Anyway my main point is all the July 7th bomings served to do was to increase peoples awareness and make future terrorist attacks more difficult.

Cool thanks for telling us this, I useually check out the Google Labs at labs.google.com, just to check if the've done any thing cool (this definately classifies as cool), but I missed this one. I particularly like the 'search for new content' feature. I'm not to sure as to its potential uses though, I mean the Personalized Google Homepage and the Google Desktop already have RSS readers (granted not quite as well as this). I also wonder if the Google Developement team ever sleep, I mean they seem to constantly come out with new stuff (not a bad thing by the way). Another thing I wonder about... how long will this be Beta?

Firefox 1.0.7 ... firefox :D
dontmaimyourself replied to LeAnn Rimes My Angel's topic in Security issues & Exploits
I'm currently using 1.5 Beta 2, which is or at least seems alot faster than 1.0.x, and has some cool features, the best being the streamlined updates system which now allows you to download patches of a few 100KB instead of a 6MB file, which is good for us dial-up folk. Firefox 1.5 Beta 2: Home: http://www-archive.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/index.html Download (Windows, English): http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (its the link from the Firefox project homepage, but if you dont trust me feel free to click it on Mozilla's site) Release Notes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/products/ If your using Firefox 1.0.x I would personally strongly recommend you at least try out 1.5 Beta 2, ok so its pretty much the same its just faster and it seems more stable. -
Personally I'm not a great fan of Trillian, I prefer Google Talk (but I'm all form minimalism). any way I do think Trillian is better than MSN, which lets face it aint hard to do. I still like the interface for Google Talk better, but yeah Trillian (the free one anyway) is ok, I've never used AIM so I cant comment on that. Also I didnt use Trillian for that long and it was a while back so it might be better than I remeber it being, its a good alternative, its just not for me.

Ok I have a question, and it isnt the more obvious whats the point of eating a CD. I would like to know what flavours CD's will come in, personally I would prefer something kind of spicy.

Google's Going To Take Over The World. Submit or be destroyed
dontmaimyourself replied to beeseven's topic in Search Engines
Its true Google are going to take over the world and I can prove it: check out this 'article': Google Purge just to clear this up I am aware this is a joke (hopefully), but there's always the chance that Google are evil and plan to index the genetic information of the world, anyway if this did happen I would also gladly let them. And hey rather Google than Microsoft. But back to the taking over the world its already started to take my computer, what with Google Desktop Search and Google Talk, if there was an OS, i'd have that too. . Anyway watch out for brian liquifying Googlebots, coming to a street near you soon (ok probably not, but its funny) -
I hate it when people label other people anything, its so childish. But anyway back to the 'goth' thing its insane really to label people but what is worse is that people will have a preconception of what you are going to be like based upon this rediculous label forced upon you be (how can I put this kindly) 'people who are not very bright' (read: Idiots). And often some people will bully you based upon this percieved label without getting to know you, this is what really gets to me. I'm fighting back though, I dress like what would be considered a 'chav' where I live that being somone who likes to listen to rave, dance and techno music and the sorts, and tend to hang around outside shops terrorising old woman, and asking people to buy them alcohol and such like, but I listen to classic rock (Deep Purple, Cream and such like). I hope to infiltrate the label system and destroy it from the inside.

Invisibility Cloak Revealed!
dontmaimyourself replied to xadoflitan's topic in Science and Technology
wow you could get into some serious trouble with on of those, if you ever got cuaght anyway. I'm all for technological progress but really can there be a lagitimate use for such a technology, I mean if you don't want to be seen doing something there has to be a reason. Though it does have obvious military uses and I personally wouldn't complain if I had on, I think there are a lot of people out there who you really don't want to be invisible. -
What Is Your Favourite Song And Why?
dontmaimyourself replied to Nani Cheri's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry but I am also going to have to do a top 3, it is quite litterally impossible for me to chose so anyway here goes:In no order:Dio - Losing My InsanityDeep Purple - Highway StarRory Gallagher - Bad PennyIt really depends on the mood i'm in as to which I like the most. -
Well I've only used 98 and XP, but I am also going to have to say 98, for the main reason that it actually worked, XP seems to be to unreliable especially on my less than great computer, I also think that XP has to much junk bolted on, that seems to be the trend now each time they try to improve it they make it steadily worse (not counting ME, which I've never used but I will have to trust you that it is rubbish). also XP is really slow for me, but thats my comps fault.

Geocities Free Webhosting Run By Yahoo
dontmaimyourself replied to wariorpk's topic in General Discussion
Yeah Geocities is good if you are just starting out and have very little HTML knowledge, but its bad points especially the ads, massively outway its good points (its free is about the only one I can think of, but so is Xisto which is far superior in everyway (but you knew that already)) the main problem I find with geocities is that pretty much all of the sites hosted there are as a result of it being for beginners very bad. but hey it is good for helping you to find out what works and what doesn't work, so for that reason it is good for improving your sites (ok so the state of the sites hosted there is not technically a problem with the hosting packages, but I suppose the site builder tool has some thing to do with it). Anyway there are worse hosts out there, and from what I can remember it was reliable. -
For sheer greatness and search based excellence you cant beat Google, its by far the best search engine in almost all aspects, but especially relavence and speed. And thats just the search engine, if you take into account all of Google's other features they pretty much rule all, thats my opinion anyway.

An other way is to open the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks>Manage Bookmarks) the select File>Export, its kind of obvious from here, this should work on all OS's as it uses the Firefox interface. Well thats what I did when I forgot my master password and had to create a new profile. Also obviously if your formating the hard drive you'll need to back the exported file up.

Uses For Computers What do you guys use computers for?
dontmaimyourself replied to jae-unit's topic in Software
I would say I used my computer most for browsing the web, but I usually listen to music at the same time so I would say I used it most for browsing the web and listening to music almost equally, thats the main stuff but it also gets used for 'chatting' to my friends, and occassionally making my website (but I tend to do this irregullarly, I will leave it for ages and then decide to completely rebuild it from scratch). College work sometimes gets done on it aswell, and then theirs the basic stuff, checking emails ect. It a hugh list of things really, some can be done r, but I still tend to do them on a computer if I can. -
Yahoo Mail Beta New Look for Yahoo Mail
dontmaimyourself replied to cse-icons's topic in Science and Technology
Yeah so its a fairly nice interface and all but who needs Yahoo anymore, we've all got Gmail accounts, right?. it looks like their all at it first Microsoft did it and I assume even Google will do it an take inspiration from pretty much every emial client ever, and bring in the 3 pane look, while I dont think this is a bad thing, I personally like that way of organising my messages, and It does look as if Yahoo has managed to implement it very well, we should consider one thing, within a few months (if not sooner) Google will have done it better. -
Favourite Download Manager Tell your choice
dontmaimyourself replied to solankyno1's topic in Software
I personally prefer Free Download Manager, which can be downloaded from: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/, I think this has the clearest interface out of the download managers I've used (I have dial up, a good download manager is essential) which include DAP, freshdownload and some others which I forget (what ever you do never ever use this, its ok but it keeps setting itself to intergrate with firefox, and I have to manually delete the plugin from the firefox directiry to stop it, anyway), I also like the scheduler which allows you to automate downloads and shutdown your computer when the downloads are done (I'm not sure if others can do this so please dont make fun of me too much if everydownload manager ever can also do this). But for small downloads which I won't get disconnected in the middle of the firefox download manager is pretty solid. -
Looks like someone forgot to put another coin in the meter Well its not like it happens often, in the year plus I've been here I can only remeber about twice its been down for more than an hour or so, and even that happends rarely, anyway I hope you had a good vacation OpaQue, you definately deserve it for creating the best web host and indeed forum around, I'm not useually one for forum posting but I find that the sheer scale of topic and the users here keep me coming back pretty much everyday, so I'm fairly sure I can find it in my heart to forgive you.
-
well I have to say that I personally dont like it, I downloaded it at a friends house (well I'm not going to risk my own computer with a pre release Microsoft product). I dont know what it was it just felt a little rushed I got the impression that some of the features were implemented poorly, Tabbed browsing in particular I felt that it was just there cos everyone else has it, and it was more of an afterthought than a genuine feature. That said I do like the small button next to the tab bar which opens a new tab. But my biggest problem with it (apart from I suspect they have done very little 'under the hood') is that the interface seems cluttered (and yeah I also absolutely hate the fact that you cannot move the tab bar I mean whos 'great' idea was it to put the toolbar at the bottom when nearly every other app has it right at the top.

Its fairly simple really, if you dont like gamespot, dont go there anymore. Personally I'm with you, I aint a massive gamespot fan either. And seeing as were on the topic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is one hell of a game, although 8 is a fairly good rating, just think they could have gave it a sub 5 score, which would be really really bad.
