  1. As for the bike stunts are you sure there is not adequate surveillance of any approaching threat. I would hope that the soldiers would have opportunities for breaks where they can participate in such recreational activities. I know what isnt always possible. As for screwing around in a moving vehicle I am not sure how dangerous it is. Are there any big bumps that could cause them to go flying off it. Ill look at the air guitar later. I am curious about the threat of snipers. I know in an urban area you couldnt detect them. I am not sure about the sniper threat in the desert. I guess a sniper could berry himself. I am not sure if they can spot buried snipers or not. I am not sure if snipers can move though the desert without being spotted and I am not sure how many good snipers the insurgents have. I would be curious in any information you have.
  2. I don?t expect to come across aliens any time soon considering the vast distance of space and the extreme amounts of energy necessary to create a warp drive. Getting back to the current situation you might find the following interview interesting:http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=18122 Also there are many people interested in space, many advocacy groups and many discussion groups. My favorite advocacy group for space is the mars society. http://www.marssociety.org/
  3. Are we watching the same video? I see soldiers having a goodtime on a base and why shouldnt they do the best to enjoy themselves in what is probably a very stressful environment. It sounds like you are saying to win the war on terrorism you cant have any fun. For some reason I dont think not having fun will make things worse and not better. Can you elaborate more I am curious. If you were not in an environment where there was the opportunity for you to unwind then it is very good you took things so seriously. I have no idea what the conditions where like where you were at. We cant be watching the same video because all I saw was stunts on bicycles and people playing air guitar. Check your link again. I dont think many people think that.
  4. I have been interested in space for quite some time and I was very happy when bush announced the vision for space exploration. For two long we have been flying in circles in LEO on a vehicle which is unsafe and hopelessly expensive. Finally NASA is given direction to use the money it gets to go forward and not in circles. I hope that future administrations continue this valiant effort to advance the technology that will allow us to survive in the hashes places and utilize resources in places that we have barley begun to set foot on.It is interesting that the push back into space seems to coincide with a general shift in public concern towards preparing natural disasters both man made and of natural occurrence. By developing engineering survive and prosper in the most extreme places will go along way towards helping prepare humankind for whatever the future might entail.

    Men! WHY?

Well, it is not a good idea to stereotype I understand how people can think about there frustrations in terms of a particular group even though they know each individual is unique and different and it is only by chance that they experienced such similar frustrations with a particular group of people. It is a natural tendency of the brain to identify patterns and it is easier to think about a group as a whole entity instead of a collection of say 5-10 individuals. However, the traits projected upon men by the original poster seem very specific and do not seem to form any typical behavior that I know men to have. By probabilities I am lead to believe that the number of people the original poster is referring to is probably only one person and if it is more then one person it is not that much more. I think the original post would be much better if the original poster would better identify the group even if it was just to say this one guy, or these two guys, without naming any names. Of course there is one perhaps false assumption I am making here. As I don?t know what country the original poster is from perhaps where they are from that typical behavior of men is much different then where I am from. I live in Canada. Notice from BuffaloHELP: Merged as reported.
  6. Hopefully we will be a space faring species before the sun engulfs the earth in flames.
  7. I agree but as I mentioned earlier what if the law is unjust. A solution to what? If someone dies as the result of a fist fight do they deserve the death penalty? I think this comment really highlight the death penalty is an emotional choice and not a logical choice. You base what crimes are worthy of the death penalty not on how much damage a person suffers but how vile you consider the crime. This is not a position unique to you and it is really hard to argue for or against. Let me elaborate on this more. One fundamental principle of crime and punishment is the punishment should fit the crime. This is pretty much equivalent to the biblical reference of an eye for an eye. Thus if we accept this as our basis for crime and punishment we do not logically conclude that rape is worthy of the death penalty. But if you try to argue this position the opposition will go on the offensive and make the distasteful accusation that you are supporting the rapist. At this point the futility of the debate is apparent. People can quote statistics until their eyes are blue but it really comes down to how each individual personally feels. Does our sense of anger and disgust for a crime out way our belief that it is wrong to kill. I don’t think we can pretend for a second that there is any logic to this debate especially if we choose to give out the death penalty for rape and not for assault. With assault we can measure the damages. We can look at the bruises and the broken bones. We can see what wounds are permeate and what will heal. For rape the majority if not all of the damages could be purely emotional. They are not quantifiable. I don’t want to dismiss the significance of emotional damage as emotional damage can be far worse then physical damage. As pain is only temporary and many wounds heel. I can’t say if I was rapped if it would be much worse for me then a debilitating assault or not as bad. All I can say is if it is much worse why is it much worse? Is the majority of the damage that results from rape a natural emotional response or is it something we are taught. And if the damage is purely emotional can we be taught to better deal with it. Can we strengthen our inner self to better deal with things that we don’t like. If one person suffers worse emotionally for a crime then another should the punishment be different? Or to give another example, If a seatbelt could of saved someone’s life is the charge of vehicular manslaughter appropriate. Anyway, I think society if free to choose or not to choose the death penalty as an action for a crime. Be it murder or rape. However, if you choose the death penalty for rape there will be a lot more mistakes. What bugs me is the clame of a moral high ground of people that choose to deal out death as punishment when infact they are responding more with the emotional mentality of a mob in a which hunt then a companionate missionary. I don’t know what it would be like to be in prison but I do know it is a place I wouldn’t want to be. As for if it should be harsher, that depends on our objectives. I would like to point out that if our goal is to rehabilitee someone then we don’t want to put them into a prison system that will make them angry and depressed. So how can we be harsh and help rehabilitee someone. Perhaps the boot camp is the right approach. Give them discipline make them work, learn and exercise. Maybe a lot of surveillance to make sure everyone behaves and if they step out of line then we can talk about real punishment. In the old days they use to have solitary confinement. It was removed because it was considered cruel and unusual. But once a person is already in jail what recourse do we have for when they break the rules. It is a choice we make as society. We have the choice of doing our best to make sure mistakes aren’t made (endless appeals) or doing our best to save money. There is little middle ground. I find this opinion interesting. It sounds terrible for someone to be wrongly accused but the fact is in every aspect of life there are risks society accepts and people die because of those risks. If we wanted to illuminate all possible risk of people dieing from human error, know one would ever drive a car and maybe not even cross a bridge. The notion that we can save everyone is ridiculous if we want to have a reasonable level of freedom. So the question is not really are mistakes made but what level of mistakes are an acceptable risk.
  8. The vent on the back of the power source (bottom left of the top picture) looks dusty. Get a can of air and try blowing dust out of it. You can get a can of air at a department store or a hardware store.
  9. Are the prisons really overcrowded because criminals donât take it seriously or is it because a of poverty? I partly agree with you here. I agree that it is not worth crying for this guy. However, I disagree with the whole attitude, âbut one can still *not commit crimes*â. What if a law is unjust? I agree that it is better if prisoners earn their keep. Be careful with your wording. When I here the word work camp I canât but help think NAZI Germany.
  10. I suppose it is subjective which a person considers worse. The prison environment could be tailored to make sure it is worse but not without human rights issues. Execution allows us to pretend we are not being barbaric.
  11. I don’t know about putting drug smugglers to death. Well, I suppose you could argue the social impacts of the substances they traffic. So it is not unreasonable I suppose but had it been for something more minor like pot I would think it was kind of extreme. In western countries we spend a great deal of effort and cost to try to make sure mistakes aren’t made in the death penalty. To me it seems more like a ritually then right or wrong. I don’t buy it acts as a determinant and I think some people might prefer the death penalty to life in prison. I also find it odd that we even discuss how humane some methods are like lethal injection. Do I really care if some mass murder or serial killer goes quietly or screaming. I don’t care if they fry or rot in prison. The most important part is the answer for there crime. Everything else is just details.
  12. I had my laptop overheat and shut down for months now. I took it to where I bought it and they blew dust out of the heat sink with a can of air. It seems to be working fine now.

    Men! WHY?

You must be talking about somone in particular.
  14. lol666 is supose to be the devils number and I guess 777 gods number I am not sure about 42.
  15. Although understanding the composition of an asteroid may help give knowledge to better defend the earth from asteroids there are more compelling reasons to look at the composition of asteroids. These include understanding the origins of the formation of the solar system and learning what resources are available on the asteroids. Also learning about asteroids is interesting in its own right. In the future with better knowledge of the available resources in asteroids we may be able to use these resources in space (ISRU) to support space exploration and space colonies or even mine them an ship resources from the to earth.
  16. NASA has had the budget and the capability to go to mars for quite a while. The politicians just didn?t want them to go because pas politicians had a lack of vision when it came to space. Well, okay there would be some development. A heavy lift launch vehicle would have to be built. That had that capability when they went to the moon (The Saturn V). They would also need to develop a space worth nuclear reactor to meat the power needs of a mars colony. This isn?t revolution either as the NAVA has been using nuclear reactors to power submarines for decades.
  17. Because of the space shuttle and the ISS the manned space program hasn't been too successful since Apollo. Manned space flight I think comprises about half of NASA's budget. The robotic side of NASA exploration has been very successful. George Bush created a new Vision for space exploration which will help the manned space program get more forwarded looking again instead of going around in circles in earth. If you would like to see more discussions about space you may want to check out the discussion boards new mars.
  18. Maybe the world should stop buying Saudi oil until Saudi Arabian stops financing Iraqi insurgents. Of course that would mean that America would have to ban the internal combustion engine because of even higher gas prices. Also they probably couldn't stop Saudi oil from reaching America though a third party so what they could do is put quota's on the amount of oil entering the united states and gradually decrease the amount that is allowed in until either, A Saudi Arabia stops financing Iraqi insurgents or B. They are no longer dependent on foreign oil.
  19. That is so dumb that you can get a criminal record for underage drinking. Especially since I think having a criminal recorded can prohibit you from doing certain professions and traveling abroad. It is stupid to ruin someone's future over a rule that is questionable in the first place.
  20. Sounds like an f14 steath bomber. Where do you live?
  21. Here is a question, when you click view source in a browser does it show how the page is layed out now or does it show the text that was sent to the browser from the website. If it is the latter you could load the page scrambled and then lay the page out after it loads via java script. You could even have it load with a copy right notice and disclaimer then have the javascript replace that with the content you want. If you had your own javascript functions to render the page then you don?t have to display any of the markup at all and it should be very difficult for people to copy.
  22. I agree ad-aware is by far the best for anti-spy ware and is sufficient but if what you have on your computer is very important I recommend paying for it so you can get adwatch and have more options like doing a smart scan in the background on strartup and having it automatically checking the bugs you want to delete for you. I was running ad-aware regularly to keep my computer clean and when I got the special addition that had adwatch my system has satayed clean without me doing anything. Spybot search and destroy and Microsoft anti-spy where are also good to have. AVG free is good for blocking trogen downloads from downloading trogins on you but with the latest upgrade of nortin I got rid of the trogen downloader?s on my computer. So you as a minimum get the free programs to take care of spyware but given the price you pay for your computer or to have it fixed I think paying for better protection is well worth the money. On other programs, thanks for telling me about GIMP. Did anyone post the link or will I have to go look for it. There is also good free mathematical software like octave and maxima but I don?t know if anyone is into that here. Since this is a web development site you might want to download apache for testing web scripts.
  23. Spawn are you an oracle? I foresee the woman having a miscarriage. To me until it is boron it is not a human clone but I guess that is a were does life begin question. Some people with weird religious ideas might make the racist claim that a baby born in this manner would not be human. Clones, if born may be the first Frankenstein not because they are motors but some of us are (note I am not referring to anyone at Xisto).
  24. I got a better idea. Put the link to the army system on top of the main Xisto page but make it a cgi-script that checks to see if you are signed up on ib-gaming and if not it automatically signs you up with the same user name and password and logs you in. Anyway, want to volunteer to start writing the script. If you look at the code of the army game it might give you some ideas of how to interact with these discussion boars. Of course I am sure there are some tutorials somewhere.
  25. I think this could be done. All that would be need is a script created so if you register for one account you automatically register for another account. The commands could be sent back and forth between the servers though cgi or some other method. I think even posting credits could be shared. The disadvantage is it seems like a waste of resources to have a whole bunch of people sine up to message boards they may not use. It will take more memory and signing people up on each board automatically will take more band width. It will also take time to implement. Perhaps if someone wanted to volunteer to write a Perl or php scrip that could do this the administrators might consider doing this.
