  1. Let me clarify this info. The top cell spans the width of the table, through the use of the colspan attribute. The remainder of the table is a large content area, and a small sidebar. Let me show you: <table width="100%"> <tr> <td colspan=2>NAVBAR GOES HERE</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="70%">CONTENT GOES HERE</td> <td width="30%">SIDEBAR GOES HERE</td> </tr></table>
  2. Latest idea: how about a thing somewhere in My Assistant that shos the credits? Make it AJAX based, so that there are no extra pageloads for it. It would reduce the number of database hits, since we wouldn't be loading the whole index page to view the credits, just the one query for the credits.
  3. I might like the idea of installing Invision Blog. True, any hosted member can put a blog on his web site (I speak from experience, my blog got pretty much nowhere), but if it is intergrated with the forums, then more people will A) have a chance to make a blog, without the difficulties of maintaining their self-installed blog software (fancy English, I like it) read the blogs that members make, instead of people being forced to wait to see links in sigs.
  4. I saw a thing on TV (I think it was The Screen Savers on TechTV maybe, it was a long time ago) on modding the Xbox. I have no standing on this issue, whether it's because it's illegal, or whether it would screw up the Xbox, or whether my dad would allow me to. I'm not a gamer (but that's exactly why I would want to mod my Xbox, to get other featurs out of it), so I don't really ever touch my (er, our) Xbox. But for those who did mod their Xbox, enjoy all of your nice flashy features, whether it be media center or backing up discs, etc.).
  5. If I understand you correctly, you need to post in this forum to get hosting credits, then sign up for hosting, and continue to post for credits to keep your site up.Once you have hosting, you can install a forum (SMF, phpBB or vBulletin or IPB if you payed for it) on your web space. I would recommend SMF, but people like phpBB too. You can install either of these forum packages with a few clicks using Fantastico (come back when you have hoosting and I'll explain this to you, or PM me now).
  6. First things first, based on previous replies, cleanup your HTML. I wasn't seeing well formed code, which might be a cause of the problems. After you fix that, my idea is to create a table with 3 cells, one spanning cell at the top (add colspan=2 width="100%" to the td tag for that cell), with the navbar, one big one under that taking up about 70% or so of the table's width, and one to the right of that making up the sidebar.
  7. I got my best picture of an NYC hybrid bus on my desktop, as well as the Windows XP Media Center Edition's Royale theme (BTW I am not running Media Center Edition). As my sig and avatar reveal, I am a big bus geek, and I do love nice shiny title bars and the taskbar.
  8. Now I am guessing that this is under Windows Vista, because only Vista has nice transparency like that. But if it is available for Windows XP, please, please send me a link to it or something, because my desktop is looking kinda boring right now.
  9. I haven't really seen any Kosher resturants run by Muslims, that seems kind of contradictory to me (I'm using big English here). If I were you, I would either complain to the Police (although the police districts around here couldn't care less about anything aside from making sure they park on the sidewalk outside 7 Eleven), the BBB (Beter Business Beurau), or some other person in the management. If he does this again, maybe try giving him a dirty look. Yeah, I am Jewish too, but I haven't really run into problems with non-Jewish people. A long time go I was playing in the sandbox at a playground in Manhattan with a younger African American child. On the subway I see tons of Muslims, and they either just talk to each other, or just sit there silently like I do. It's a small world, and we have to live through it (I should tell that to myself sometimes ).
  10. This topic was discussed already. See http://forums.xisto.com/topic/35438-windows-will-be-on-macs/= for more.
  11. That might be nice if it could only be displayed if that particular user is viewing the post. With SMFShop, it displays the amount of money a user has next to his name. But what I like, following on Maine's suggestion, is to have the amount of money displayed next to a post, only displayed on his post, and only when he is viewing the topic, meaning that nobody else can view his crdits from the forum itself.
  12. Doing a quick look on the MamboXchange site will get you a good number of components and modules/mambots. There are many projects to intergrate existing gallery projects, as well as ones built natively for Mambo. See this page: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. That is a listing of the 20 or so projects dealing with galleries and gallery intergrations.
  13. Your site's design is pretty nice. The graphics look good. I understand that the site is new, so I won't complain about the lak of content. But what I would like to see is a common layout for all sections of the site (gallery when it opens, forum, shop, etc.), and not have everything open in a new window. The new windows are A) small and cumbersome to work with. Some bad news: Your site doesn't validate as valid XHTML. It's a pain in the *** for people to get their sites XHTML compliant (take my site as an example), but I am just letting you know that this can cause displayproblems with browsers like IE (which once gave me an XML error, of all things, while Netscape and Firefox were fine).
  14. I find you guy's view on your computer science teachers to be somewhat similar - they teach everyone as if they are idiots, even those whose aren't, and don't provide adequete information to those who need it. That is almost exactly the the case by me.My real complaint about this guy is that he won't let me play a game until I finish an exra-credit project. If you saw my report card, you would agree with me that I don't need extra credit in computers (my grades are between 90 and 100). I really like BeJeweled and really hate Foxtrot. Some good news: I might be able to go without finishing the project, because I spoke to my principal, and he said I should meet with him and the computer teacher in his office the next time we have computers (which, if all goes well, will be next Wednesday), and we will work out something.
  15. Windows 98 SE has different hardware support. I have experience wit this - I once plugged my USB drive in to my old 98 machine (not 98 SE), told it where the drivers are, and the thing crashed and reformatted my USB drive. Think of it this way - if the device was around for 98, then Micro$**t woould have support for it. Anything older than the device class (ex. wireless cards, which may have been just coming out for 98 SE) won't support the device.
  16. My computer teacher is a smart guy. He went to Binghamton University (in NY State, part of the State University), and is now getting a Master's degree at Queens College. He can also run a computer class (he does sound dorky in some of my classmates' opinions) that I don't learn anything in because I know almost everything he taught so far. But lately he's been bugging me.Ever hear of Foxtrot puzzles? If not, Google it, and come back when you know what it is. What I am saying is that he is making up do one. He gave us a bitmap of one, and expects us to do it using the Windows Calculator and a list of 10,000 prime numbers. Messing with the Calculator isn't really easy on a laptop, making it take even longer. Every computer class I waste 20+ minutes working on this one puzzle. I really want to play BeJeweled 2 Deluxe during this time (BTW, I am on level 36 I think), which I find to be much better for the brain than Foxtrot. The moral of the story: Foxtrot is a waste of time, and my computer teacher feels that classrooms are a dictatorship . Co not ever attempt a Foxtrot puzzle unless you have a real calculator handy, and even then, get it over with ASAP.
  17. I am experiencing your problem. You may have to set a fixed width for the body. That way it will always be the same size, no matter who's screen it is on. Don't take me for an expert on CSS though; I can barely fix my own site, which looks horrible in IE. (I am using Mambo, which you should know is closely related to Joomla!.)
  18. This topic has been discussed before. Please search the forum next time. See http://forums.xisto.com/topic/33898-google-to-take-on-geocities-google-page-creator/= and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/=.
  19. I have different writing styles for instant messaging and forum posting. In IM conversations, I can type short messages, often with mistakes (which I correct by typing the word in and putting a '*' after it). On forums (any forum, to stretch this out), I try to use the best spelling possible and make my points clear. I type complete sentences (where have we not seen that?), use few emoticons, and put in a decent amount of content. For a pretty good example of this style, click my name next to the post, click Profile Opions, and then View Member's Posts, and you can see my beautiful (sarcasm) posts. But really, making things clear and content rich not only enhances the forum, but also enhances you as well.
  20. I had problems with those instructions for pretty links. But I am sorry, I admit, that can be accomplished on any CMSMS site with a certain version and higher, which one I don't remember off hand. I'd like to learn the CMSMS templating system, or even just get some templates other that the included (and really boring, but also pretty nice looking) templates. Or maybe I'd like to learn the templating system, which is very different from Mambo's (Mambo templates use PHP function calls, while CMSMS uses it's own 'tags').
  21. Maybe you could try adding the directive (or a similar directive) to the httpd.conf file. Or try creating a file by the name of htaccess.txt and renaming it to .htaccess.
  22. As far as I am concerned, 1&1 (https://www.1and1.com/) has the best prices. For now, at least, .info domains are free for one year, and the major ones (.com, .net, .org, maybe some others) are $5.99 a year. They also include free domais with their hosting packages (the number of free domains you get depends on the price of the hosting package), but who wouldn't want Xisto's great hosting?
  23. Your skin looks pretty good, it has nice graphics. As far as I can tell, to answer everyone's question on what the forum's general topic is, this forum is a place for getting help with phpBB.
  24. For Server URL, enter your domain or .trap17.com subdomain, and MySQL always runs off port 3306 unless conigured otherwise. Hope this helped you out.
  25. My school does know that I made the site (although they might have a tiny bit of objection toward having it, that's another issue). I used a template from TY2U.com, and modified it slightly (I changed the header image to one I made using pictures I took and put together using HP Image Zone Plus and The Gimp). Overall, I am proud of myself for making the site, and so is my dad. Does anyone have any comments on the CMSMS site?
