  1. I went to college for Computer Programming, and Computer Networking. I have learned many things in that time from software to hardware, and learning coding and scripting, and maintaining a computer. So there are a lot of professions out there... There is a huge need for many types of techs out there, but you need the qualifications and certifications... that is where the time and energy come into play... Not all PC work needs certification, but that also is where the real money is made.So the sky is the limit... you can learn Computer Sciences, and build computers. You can take Programming and create software or work off of softwares and create web applications. You can take Engineering and Networking and work on the hardware side of the craft. This is where you can maintain and upgrade the devices, and route each unit to each other, or throughout the world on the internet.
  2. I don't really think I have an exact amount, but I can type more accurate than I ever have. I was taught about ten years ago in high school... I only really paid attention long enough to learn the keys and to learn to not look at the keys. Then my teacher taught me to only look at what I am trying to key in... in this case it was the book that we were typing from. So we learned the keystrokes, then to type not looking at your fingers, then it was learning without looking at what is being typed.I can do that every now and again... but I am not in class... so I will look at what I am typing... unless there is a good thing on TV that I can watch. That, and I am not as accurate as I once was, and I have a decent amount of mistakes. But then again, the longer I type, the better I get... so, if I type and type, my accuracy rate, rises.I have come a long way from typing with my pointer fingers searching for the correct key.
  3. I worked at a printing company, and when I helped on the presses, we would sometimes cover our keyboards with Seran Wrap so that it would stay somewhat cleaner... But then again, even if it were to get dirty or even ruined, it would not have mattered... we worked off of old machines, and we wouldn't have even gotten newer PCs... sorry, just a little rant...Yes, wrap the keyboards!
  4. They all seem to be very good ideas. I basically do my containers and image backings on the fly. I will always be updating my sites and reconstructing til I die! But I do think that the idea is good, and it is a good start to creating background templates. I use a lot of fade gradient feel backings, and I try to keep it simple... well, at least at the start.
  5. I have like 39 running right now, but I usually have lower. I try to keep as much stuff off of my startup, and I just try to keep it junk free. But of course, it never happens that way.
  6. I began playing with animation with an old SNES game Mario Paint. Unlike sitting and redrawing over and over again like when I was young, it taught me how to do slight image changes. Ok, so that was something non PC I used to do.When I first used PC animation, I used Gif Animator... it was a Ulead product. I think they still use it, but I don't know if it is freeware or not. The nice thing about freeware and shareware, is that there will usually be a program out there... it just might be hard to find, or maybe it just might not come with a lot of options. But it never hurts to check around. Now I use Macromedia Flash and Adobe Imageready... I was lucky enough to have copies of each, but I also worked in the industry, and when I went back to school, I had educational versions... Sometimes, it takes a little experimenting. And if you are really bored, then go ahead and Walt Disney a few pages with a pencil!
  7. I have heard so much about GIMP, but I never needed to really use it. I think that if someone I know would need something like that, I would probably try it and then recommend it. I think I have posted many times about GIMP, so I won't do the Photoshop is great response. My opinion is that I think GIMP may be good to use on a personal and fun level... But I think that on a professional level, it would be good to use Photoshop... or maybe that is just what I have learned. But then again, I always go back to 'use what you know and like.'- skedad -
  8. I don't really think myspace sucks, but like everything else in the world, it gets misused. I signed up, and then I tried to hook my friends up to add them. Then it was fun to see what they were up too seeing that it had been forever since I have talked with them. Ok, cool, so I can keep up with some old friends. And I can follow along their life on their bulletins. And sometimes, I will go around and see who they have on their pages. And man, there are some crazy sites... but if it gets too weird, then there is a Back button! And yes, it seems the longer I am on, the more junk gets added to my inbox. Tom was my friends for about 15 minutes! Then he was gone. The coding is basic, but I guess it's enough to get something off the ground... and it is not my own webpage, because I can put whatever I want on my own webpage. I like that I can link some photos that I have on myspace to my webpage. I usually use the blog to link to new stuff on my site. So, yes, it is a bit ridiculous, but it is all about what it can do for you... and there will always be things that will be annoying about it, and you just get over those imperfections, and add the playlists... at least you can jam to listings of your favorite music as you are deleting annoying friends requests!
  9. I just wrote a post on "Does Science Answer our Questions" only a few moments ago. And I kept the respect given to the post. But this is a different post and this will be a different response. I am a Christian, and I am proud of my spiritual beliefs. I find it unfortunate for those that do not have a belief to follow. I do not go around judging others, but I also don't do enough to spread the word. I follow God, but I am still a human being walking this earth, so I am STILL IMPERFECT, and I like it like that.I do believe that God exists, but this post will never have the answers that everyone is looking for. This is not an excuse, but it is fact that if you want to know more on the life of Jesus and the existence of God, you don't go to Xisto, you go to church to find out for yourselves. But I led a life without God and it was really truly I time that I didn't know myself. I am trying to keep this post fairly simple and a bit general not to step on toes, and that is sad to think sometimes that beliefs can't always be placed on any text media without criticisms... so this is my short and sweet answer then. I just want to leave with this thought, don't bash what you don't understand... and also, there are many people who will like to give you the answers that you will be looking for. Have fun with the posts here, but it is best to keep open minds in this one!- skedad -
  10. Are you going to philosophy the question, or are you going to go with the simple day by day approach.Day to day answers are everywhere thanks to today's technology. And it is a pretty remarkable achievement. Wake up to an alarm clock, most days it is an electric to an old wind up. And then you have breakfast and hit the showers. Maybe you watch the news on a plasma TV in the mornings, when your grandparents would listen to a radio. You leave for work or school in some type of vehicle. And we all have heard the days of which people had to walk to where they were going. But you know, that people can enjoy walking, or even biking with ipods and mp3 players. You can even just chat away or surf the net while walking through the park.I think the day to day advantages are through science, but for the more LIFE issues... Religion will take over, and I will not go into all of the great advantages when it comes to life and that type of spirit. As long as you don't let your technology take over your life, then it is nice to have nice things... but they don't answer your questions, they just make things easier.
  11. I think that making electric cars or even hybrid cars is a cool idea... I don't know if I am really stubborn or not, but I don't see purchasing any of them too much in the near future, (even though my wife raves about them!)I think it would be a nice little car to drive around in, until you get on a freeway and get blown off the highway by a big tractor trailer! But I do have to admirer car makers nowadays. To try something different than what is on the road now, I would have to say would be a difficult thing.I would like to think maybe my daughters and my son when they get older could reap the benefits of owning a car like that, seeing that maybe by the time they get their first car, maybe many in their generation will be more likely to try new technology. But right now, there are many generations ahead who are still driving old school and even bigger muscle cars... I don't think all of the world is ready for important breakthroughs for the road.We can only hope that something like this takes off well in the future, but I personally think it needs to be a little more 'beefed' up for me to start taking it more serious.
  12. I think the fact that we can watch TV and watch movies about how cool things could be in the future. And I think that a lot of the posts here are more realistic and that is good. I think it is fun to imagine all that could be possible in the future. I think that if the technology were used correctly and not being abused, then I would see super power nations having all of the advantages of science... Everyone and their pets have cell phones nowadays, along with mp3 players, palm pilots, console games, pcs... Just see them enhanced even more... this is how the future seems it should be...I understand that a lot of the posts are saying that humans are killing the earth. This is true, but there seems to be more upsetting news that as much as they kill the earth, humans are killing more humans, too. That is the sad fact, that it is not only in times of war. Crimes are so high everywhere, and I would be afraid to see what that future would be like... And if SO much power can be unleashed, all of that power can be taken away...I would hope to see this fantastic future with floating cars and cool technological advances... but I wonder who will be around to enjoy such treasures!?But, I still believe that there will be people here to enjoy the spoils of the earth... And hopefully, it will be a much more enlightened time.
  13. It has been a while since I have really looked into a lot of 'newer' scripts and HTML codes. I have been out of class for over a year now, and I am beginning to feel a little rusty to coding. I do use a little bit of HTML on my webpage, but I plan to add a lot of Flash to it. But if I wasn't so lazy, I would break out my Java, VB, and Dreamweaver HTML books and refresh myself on how to make really, really fun programs and additions to my site. But at the moment, it is quite difficult to even keep up with posting... So thanks for pulling this topic out of archives.... (Going to go find my books, now!)
  14. At this very moment, I am posting on my Acer laptop. My wife bought the laptop this previous summer. We paid around $500 for it, so she would have a good quality PC to use for school. She is able to use it on campus, and use it around campus at wifis.I started using it because my other PC, our Dell desktop's monitor is dying. It is like burnt out on the left side, so the laptop is the default PC around our house. The laptop is also the newest and most updated. My older Dell is kind of like a throw together of older hardware from past PCs of mine and my brother in law. We like to take hardware devices from a lot of other PCs that are dying and try to make super computers from what is left. And then we network it with our web routers. Fun, fun...We plan to get a cheap server from my bro in law's work and make a nice customized network server. Can't wait!
  15. I use Yahoo email, but I also use Gmail and Hotmail, too. I guess I used Yahoo so I could use geocities. At the time I really liked what Yahoo geocities could do for me, but now I basically work on Xisto, so I only use Yahoo as an email client. I also use Yahoo for the movies section. A long, long time ago there used to be this phenomenon that is called chat rooms, haha. I used Yahoo Chat for a while, but only to go along with MSN Chat. So I don't have huge reasonings to why Yahoo was over anything else, because I just use them with other programs.I liked at one time using Yahoo Launch, it was used along side what I was doing online, and I could customize my music lists. I guess it is still going, but now I use project playlist for my music. So if something new would come along, I wouldn't replace Yahoo, or Yahoo email, it would be something to go along. I have different contact lists on each provider, so it's not like I have everyone on each email account.
  16. I didn't know there was a newer version of Office. The last thing I have used was Office XP, but I don't really use it too much. It is nice for when I need to open random files or whatnot using usually Word. But I may have to check it out, because my wife does most of the text oriented things around the house. We like to use a lot of templates for bills and such on like Excel, but I also try to sort things in Word or PowerPoint.I am a Graphic Artist, so I basically keep to Photoshop, but when I try to do a lot of proofreading I just do it in Word... I would love to find an alternative to Word sometimes, because it is the Devil's Word Processing Software! Haha
  17. I do recall playing with a Paint Shop program when I was younger. It was loaded on my sister's 3.1 and it was used to send over bitmap clipart for my sister to use for some school project. It was like dot matrix and it was a picture of a lion. It was for a school spirit project in like middle school. I don't think I am trying to make fun of Paint Shop, but that was so long ago, and I have tried to evolve my skills since then. But a lot of people will still like to use what is very comfortable for them.I also began using Paint on Win98, Win2000 and some of WindowsXP, until I upgraded to Photoshop 4.0. From there I basically realized that I would not go back to the basics, and when possible, I would try to keep up with the updates and upgrades that Adobe had to offer. So fastforward to present day, and I am using Photoshop CS. I haven't really updated my Illustrator or word processing programs, but whenever possible, I will try keep up with what is current.I do a lot of Freelance work, and am glad that I can go onto Adobe online and get what I need for my Photoshop, and Dreamweaver programs.Don't go out of your way to try different things because it is more common... I am happy to hear that running easier programs work for your needs.
  18. I have lived without internet, well, because I have lived without internet. It wasn't even really popular or really available when I was younger. I am not an old geezer, I'm only 30... but it didn't really come about until I graduated High School and got into college. Nowadays it is SOOO overkilled, but it can be very useful. Before the net, it was telephone usage, or you played around the house, or visited people. I was quite active with my friends, and had TV on here and there. It was like anything else.If it were to discontinue, it would be rough, but not horrible. I would just adjust things, and it would go back to the days of old.The new generation I think would deteriorate due to lack of myspace and facebook! I just like to email old pals and play music online... oh yeah, my website and keeping up with forums on Xisto!
  19. I have a wife and kids, but even I can find time for myself. And those sometimes are usually when I can pile in a few good hours. Lately it has been WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 or 2008, and Final Fantasy XII. I have put in MANY MANY MANY hours for FF12... I have over 180 some odd hours... and I have yet to finish... That is my relax time, so I am in NO hurry to finish it... Seeing that the next Final Fantasy will be on PS3, I won't be buying it because they cost TOO much.I was snowed in one weekend when I first played FF10. I basically had it on for almost a day in a half. It was from recovering being sick and sleeping in almost one whole day. The next day it snowed really bad, so I stayed in and kept playing my game... yes, it was ridiculous! I could probably post continuously on this topic because I have done some hardcore killing time.Have fun but don't over due yourselves!
  20. I don't really have a lot of comaring to do yet because I have only used Vista few months. I have used XP for so many years now that it's easier to compare XP to the earlier systems. I really like what Vista has to offer and I like that it uses Windows and has a semi-Linux look to it. But I can't really dig into Vista until I have it under my sleeve like I do XP.I love the graphics and I like that the use of less 'stacked icons' to the easy pop up listings on the logo on Vista. I don't know if that came out right. On XP, there is the Start button that launches the Programs and more listing. On Vista, it's smaller and has the Logo to start. So far I like it, but there is a lot of getting used to on Vista. So the laptop I am on now uses Vista, but my desktop still has XP. So I am using both still, and I don't love or hate the comparison, I just like that I am able to use both successfully together.
  21. I have been a serious FF fan from the beginning. But I also really enjoyed Zelda, too. I really got into both games when they hit the SNES, and I was SOOO freakin crazy for the SNES. I now own PS2 and sometime hopefully it will be PS3, and I really got into FF12 and the new battle system. It ruined me for the older FFs, but it just has a nice new flow. The last Zelda game I played was the Mask on N64. I don't own the newer Nintendo systems, because I don't have tons of rupies or Gold Pieces to buy the new consoles, and especially how expensive they are, or I would be playing them all... So FF and then a pretty close 2nd would be Zelda... now if they moved the title over to Sony for the PS2 or PS3, then that would be different...
  22. The parental side of me is having me say responses like... It's so cute! But really I have two daughters and a little boy who is now 2. I have seen many a cartoon in which that sky would totally work for. Like my daughter's My Little Pony shows. So it definitely works well for the fantasy flair.Good job!
  23. It has been a while since I have used a Mac. I used it at one of my design jobs. It was like a G6... it was quite a few years ago. But I did like using it for Photoshop. I think if I were to really put money into my freelance gig, I would love to upgrade my PC and then possible run a seperate Mac for my graphics. But I don't love hate one PC or Mac over another, I just like that there is competition between many good systems, and sometimes you can get really good deals for one, due to the expansion or upgrades of another OS.I say keep it coming, but be careful of the 'lemons' out there... my good friend bought a Dell around a year ago, and it kept dying on him...
  24. A super power wash that can clean an entire house in moments... That way I can just spend my time with my kids and not always having to clean up after them! Just eat and sleep and when you go out for an errand or two, hit the power button after locking the house up, and when you come back home, it's nice and clean and shiny! Hmmm, does this reply mean that I need to get out more!!??I like the topic, and I am sure I will be adding more!
  25. Man I too understand that sometimes it is hard to find the time to post. I have had mine around 20 or so now mine starts to go like under 15 a lot. I am just now getting back into doing more for my webpage, and then I have to try to find a good post to really get into commenting on. I am sure that once summer comes around, I may not even have a site anymore! I love using Xisto, but I just can't keep up with it every second like when I first arrived.I just hope that I can get involved in more topics when I am on, and try to get some good quality replies... I really don't want to lose a lot of days and then end up negative, too.... I just don't know if I would want to try to keep up if I were to slip too far down...But good luck Chesso getting your site back up, and congrats on the new job!- skedad -
