  1. I have used many different systems, and each one was different from the rest. But it depended upon the timing of when I got my antivirus. While I was back in college, unless the instructor had given out versions of what was popular at the time, I would installl AVG on my school system. At home I followed a nice lengthy subscription of Norton... but I was not about to add it on to my school PCs.So I guess you can say I have used AVG, I just never dove in and wanted to try the features, I just wanted a quick fix for a quick OS install.
  2. I have been playing chess for many years now. And each game I played was always different and it was usually with different players. I have won and lost many... and a lot I have never been able to finish. I would pair chess with checkers, because usually one would be played right after the other... But I can't compare the two by any means, it just oddly seems that that happens.I learned chess when I was young, and I have been able to understand it quickly... It was the opponents that would have different chess experiences. I played against my wife, but we just weren't able to finish.... We are both too stubborn, and we have some different playing styles... I have an older travelling version from like the 70's that my mom gave me many years ago. My daughter started getting into chess now, and she played a lot of chess with me and her grandmother a lot this past Christmas. And I play my daughter a lot nowadays, as long as I have enough time to get into a really good game. She just turned 11, and she is getting into learning strategy, so I help her when I can... and she is understanding the importance of being a good sport.Well, how nice that I can actually post about playing Chess. And that is nice, because I will always be an avid chess player. And I love to teach my kids, too.- skedad -
  3. I have and will continue to use Dreamweaver. I guess for the moment I am using MX. As far as Frontpage was concerned, I used it for quite some time until I started using Firefox, found Firefox fantastic, and at the same time got upset that I just couldn't use Frontpage with Firefox. I had Frontpage as a part of Microsoft Office XP. So I really don't know how the newer Frontpage goes... I am sure it has all of the features updated and I am sure it works with Firefox now.I began TrelixWeb and used Notepad here and there, but I started to get lazy and began to use Frontpage and then had geocities... It all worked very well for me. Then as I began creating more and more pages my preferences began to change, too. When I went back to school into the Programming side, I began to really get into Dreamweaver.... and learned how to use it well... As before, I learned a lot on my own.So as long as I am able to keep up with Dreamweaver and its' many extensions, I am happy with the product. But, to each his/her own. Just keep up with what you know... But also realize that it never hurts to experiment, that's what makes an artist.- skedad -
  4. I have heard of jamroom, but have now only tried it. I read your topic and now am trying it out for myself. It seems that there is a download feature, so I am thinking that there may be a decent bit to this site. If I am able to get into it and can help you out, I will try. Going to go in and try to make a page of my own.
  5. I have worked on Windows since the dawn of time. I think I started on at least 3.1. Evolving is a fabulous thing, because I would hate to have to still work on 3.1 or even Windows 95. I had to put up with really bad workstations at an old company I worked for. I would have to work on really slow desktops that had either 3.1, or Windows 95... HORRIBLE!I did however use Mac to do a lot of design work at the same company. I started on a G5... but never the less, I did like working on the Mac to do the artsy tech stuff. I was a lot of shortcuts and keystrokes that had to be learned. But once I learned what keys needed to, converting it over to Windows helped a lot. So I would probably run my Freelance work on a Mac, but do a whole lot more on Windows.I use Vista on our laptop, but I have used XP for many years... in which I began to learn the ins and outs of the computer. Windows 98 started to make my life a little easier than 95... but I am so glad the blue screen of death has been left behind many many years and systems ago. Here's to many more versions of Windows, and wondering what will be next in the future...- skedad -
  6. At the moment, I am posting on my wife and I's laptop. We bought the laptop for her school use, but now I am using it a lot more than usual. The flat screen on my desktop computer is beginning to die. It is fading from the left to the right, and most of the screen is darkened. So I use it for Dreamweaver on my webpages. I start out my design ideas on the desktop and then send over files to the laptop. I guess it is nice to use when I am working on projects and the rest of the family is doing something else and I can hang out in the living room typing away, while they do other things.I prefer desktops to laptops... but obviously not for every use. I like to maintain the desktop, and laptops are a bit more of a pain. I have more knowledge on how a desktop works and such over the laptop, but I am liking being able to use laptops in the ways that I cannot on the desktop. So like I said, while the desktop is not at 100%, I will be sending files over to the laptop... and maybe if it works for me a lot more, maybe I will have to pick one up myself someday... but the next computer will still be the desktop.- skedad -
  7. Very informative tutorial. I think your design banner looks very good. I haven't really heard of that style, but I think it is a good idea... I wonder how many different banners could keep a unique flair, but the breakaway borders makes it more roomy and gives more flow instead of having a solid color throughout with fonts here and there. Very well done.
  8. So I wonder if a lot of this stuff happens, what effects could it have to Earth and our moon... That would be interesting to see though.
  9. My favorite will and probably always will be Photoshop. I also used CorelDraw, but if using something professional oriented, it would be Photoshop. I started out years ago on Paint because that was all I had available. But as I went through college and it was available to me... things changed drastically. Along side the grahics portion, if I was to recreate sketches and drawing, or just needed something for vector imaging, I use Adobe Illustrator. It has been a while since I have used it, though.I think it depends on what media I am using... for web design, I would use Photoshop. For Graphic Design and Advertising, I used Illustrator along side of it.For non PC design I used to play MarioPaint on SNES... so it really does depend on the media. So I will use what I can get my hands on, and if it is not a pencil.
  10. Is there something I don't know about capturing screenshots that Photoshop can't handle? Basically, I do the screenshot, then open up Photoshop, create new and then just paste. It comes in on 800 x 600 which is my default resolution for the time being. I know it would get pixelated if you need to expand it... but I don't see why you couldn't just resize it in Photoshop.... if you have Photoshop of course.I don't have all the info needed for this post maybe, but I know that that is what I do when I do screenshots.... - skedad -
  11. I have been pulling some old stuff because some of the other stuff just isn't working for me at the time, and well, I wasn't around the first time it was posted. I would think that at some point the topic was active enough, and well, it is still a post. I deal with a lot of Designing, so posts old or new if they are appealing I reply to. I deal with Photoshop all of the time... easier posts to throw my opinion around in...
  12. I realize that this is an older topic, but I really try to refresh my thoughts on a lot of designing forums.I am always reformatting my PC, so I load in many filters, as is the same with Dreamweaver. So I reformat and lose all of the filters and plugins that I have loaded in beforehand. I don't really do too many filters these days.... I have gotten lazy. When I was loading up a lot of fliters I would try different bevels and lattice designing. I just go crazy with doing banners, so I am always trying to find ways of styling fonts for banners or whatnot. I don't really do the heavy loaded filters. I have seen some being overkilled. Highlight an area select the filter and it's all filled in already. I like little filters that change by option selections, not having different versions of difference clouds and renderings.I may be a bit prudish, but I have played with a lot of filters that change the whole concept of what I am designing... so that is why I don't really jump the gun on installing a lot of filters... If I play around again, I may change my mind.... or if someone on the forums have something that is fantastic to use.
  13. I guess I didn't think of using FTP for quicker connect and upload... I just usually have CPanel on my Favorites on my browser. Then I just go ahead and jump right into the file manager. It is easy because everything on my internet is 'remembered' like my pass and user. All I do is just go right to it. I guess that setting up the FTP would be easier for such tasks. When I did use FTP, I used WiseFTP... but that was before I played with Xisto... I will have to think about trying the CuteFTP maybe, or at least check it out... - skedad -
  14. Back to the Future, Timecop, Butterfly Effect... and many, many more... I haven't even looked into what SciFi has to offer... and what all other www sites are showing. All I know is from what I see and or know around me. Time continuance, I know it from breaking the sound barriers. I know from just watching movies what it would be like if it were to happen, and what people would like to do with it. Oh, if only I could go back in time... I wouldn't blah blah blah... Humans are too imperfect. It time travel were to happen, it would be like everything else. It would be used to do well, but would eventually come back to bite us all in the behind.I would like to think that if time travel was indeed possible that it would work with Back to the Future and not the Terminator... And the beginning of time and how vast is space... a lot of theories, but no one is able to go as far... And I think that one day if the AS FAR is found, then a lot of answers to everything would be answered. So that is why everyone will continue to be McFlys everywhere playing in their Dalorians. (Sorry about the spelling...)Have fun with the notion, but don't make yourselves loopy!- skedad -
  15. What people want... man if every person was the same it would be so easy... um, and then so pointless! I think that a new(er) designer will jump right into the newage flash and flash setups and the convenient default display settings... I have been able to do a few different setups and each were pretty much here and there and the similarities were that they were webpages. Old school clients aren't going to want something new and flashy! I think the easier organized site, the easier the traffic will flow on the sites. Now my personal page through Xisto is not really great at the flow of traffic, but it doesn't get hit like an ebay site would. And I think that if it is professional, I don't think there is a need for it to be really eye catching and hugely clever, I think Mr X or Mrs Q is going to just want the easy access buttons and links. I think the last one can wrap into the others. I think at first when the site is up, it should be bugged and it should be confusing... that way the suggestions come in and then you will know what the people need... or you can make it perfect and have a nice section for user feedback... hahahaha... whatever the case. *Thank you for giving me very good questions that I could chime in on.... But do remember, it's only my opinion* - skedad -
  16. I really like the newer upgrade. It looks professional, but enough to still be compatible with the forums. It is very easy to follow, and has many choices to choose from once you are logged in. I like it when it relates to forums, because only hosted members and higher can enter. It gives a respectable 'privilege' to those who have chosen to take the step up to hosting their own accounts. It works as a useful hub even if you do not need to use it to acquire a host account. The user is able to go to the CPanel, or back to the Forums and whatnot. Congrats on the success of the upgrade, and keep up the good work! Thanks, bob AKA skedad
  17. I have followed Linkin Park since the beginning. I do like their unique sound as compared to others. I have played their first two albums to death and back. I think the break they had for a while was good for the band. I have listened to Fort Minor... and then back to LP. I was able to mesh both of the first two CDs together and I used to jam to it on the way to work... the good thing about the group having shorter songs.I do like the new album, but it doesn't even compare with the previous. The band began to get a little too political for my liking. Yes, in this day and age, you can speak your mind. But when it comes to being a band, keep to the music sometimes...
  18. I do notice that there are many 'I like and I love Xisto' reviews out there! I think on a few of them I was doing dainty little yes I really do like Xisto too responses. But really, I didn't actually say the yays and nays of the site. So here are a few pros and cons of what I think of the site... PROS Free of course Easy access to anything on site Professionalism in forums Nice atmosphere CONS Lack of flair with topics Unprofessional post comments (by a few uncaring members) It is early here in NC this morning, so I am thinking that my opinions and how I am posting them may be a little off... but you can get the idea. As a whole I think that Xisto has what it takes to make a huge impact on the web... And kudos to those involved to make it was it is today... Not meaning to be sappy, just simply and humbly appreciative. Thanks, - skedad -
  19. I never really took the time to play and have my resume look fancy. I would LOVE to do so, but I was afraid that my employer that was interviewing me would look too much into the design, rather the information contained on it. Now that I am not really pressed for a new job, I think I would like to have a little fun with creating a resume with photoshop additions. I would probably make something interesting resume wise if I was to do something for my Freelancing, not so much if I was to do the 9 to 5 job search.Who am I to judge on this topic... I would just suggest thinking if the place or the job title is relative to a creative outlook... I just wanted to make sure I had the right information rather eye candy.
  20. I was hoping to see how people would continue to respond to the site reviews. I think it is not as much traffic seeing that it is not a post count. But I like to play around a little bit while doing some real posting. I am just used to polls that stay active. I am being a good boy and not plugging my page... hahhaha!Good sites, though people!
  21. I do have a lot of experience under my belt with Web Design and well, just Graphic Design. It is just always updating the new rules and the new guidelines when dealing with the business aspect. It is good to have a quick reference like you have posted.
  22. Hmmm... never really thought of going cheap getting software. I would have to be a huge stickler and make sure that the quality was fantastic... that and copy over another disk to have as backup.I actually have many different versions of Photoshop and other programs, so I do have freebies and semi cheaper stuff... Ebay... now I will just have to keep it in mind.- skedad -
  23. You were able to get through the movie more than once I see. I wasn't really able to get through it once, but I really wasn't watching it. I was kinda into other things and I had caught some scenes here and there. My daughters had it on and had been doing so all day long. I see that you have seen it 8 times, I think I have seen Shrek like mega multiple times in a day... my little man watches it over and over when we travel on our DVD player in our van.Robin Williams IS THE MAN... I love the watch and in this case listen to this guy... He can do it all. I think hearing him doing the voices got me into some of the scenes. That and we were on vacation to a beach house so I wasn't really into staying in and watching movies all day.Really good review, it sounds like what my wife and I do after watching movies at least once. We should be critics... actually, we were movie critics for our college paper... Will have to do it again for my webpage... Hey you just gave me an idea!Enjoy and don't forget the popcorn!- skedad -
  24. I think that the designer should have his/her idea ahead of time, that way they know how to follow with a site idea. That will help to not get off track and make mistakes while working on the site. I have seen really nice layout structure, then like the last page, or one page just goes the opposite way and was all flashy... It's like going through a family's house and seeing nice things, then going upstairs to the kid's room and opening the door.... FLASHY OVERKILL!I feel like a little deja vu here, but I think that if designers want to do things a little off the wall, then it should be stated in like a separate gallery or something a little less site related. I am starting some ideas for my daughters and my son's pages, and they will be a little flashy... because that is what kids are... happy, silly and flashy! But if I overkill it then it will just be cutesie images and flashy animation everywhere. I think that sites should be a continuous flow too. Start at the top of the page and go through info, then at the bottom let the user branch from there. Will they go back to the top to reread some info, will they go to the following page to continue what they are reading, or are the finished and would like to go back to the homepage of the site. I am working on that development right now, but I may be getting to 'perfectionist.' I notice myself that I don't have many openings that I would like on my pages, and I have created many and many in my lifetime already!Ok, so my son is telling me it's time to stop my post. I hope that you all have fun and just do what feels right to you in page development. I think the best way to make the sites are to learn from your mistakes and make a lot of them!- skedad -
