  1. I guess I never really thought to check out apps other than checking my gmail and using Google search. I do actually use a lot of Microsoft Office applications and I do use trillian for my chatting. But I just don't seem to do it all at once... I think lately it has been Xisto, photoshop, and dreamweaver. Ok, yes I do much other surfing, but it just didn't relate to google.I could always play with the options once I am already logged into my gmail account. I do understand the importance of multiple users and multiple PC usage. I implanted a homepage full of links just for other PC usage... that and laziness to not type www. As for email, I have almost all of the free ones you can figure... It was always convenient to always add a new address for some other reason... I don't use one so much anymore that it handles all of the spam it seems! *laugh* But my main is gmail... it seems a bit more professional out of them all... I guess!Web editing was always taken care of using my dreamweaver, or frontpage editors. But after reading a lot of these posts, I think it would be a good start to my new website to start adding on apps that I enjoy at least! I will have to see what it can offer me.- skedad -
  2. I also think it is a good idea to get others involved. I think it is good to branch out to others, as long as it is not being abused and misused... It would not be good if someone wanted to come in and crowd the shoutbox... Ok, so I don't mean to be negative...But this also can be a good thing.. letting others see from the outside what goes on around the sites and forums, and could spread the word. If someone is not as sure what to do with hosting and or forums, this gives them an opportunity to get used to what goes on around here. The shoutbox scrolls 24/7, and it is a good way for guests to come in and meet the members or other guests. Again, I think giving people abilities and not making people go ahead and join without having touring and testing, they may not be totally involved. So, hello guests! Come on in and enjoy... the forums are always flowing around here!- bob aka skedad -
  3. I came across Xisto in a list of free hosting. I wanted a new step in reliability and so far, I cannot complain. It took a little while to maneuver through the cPanel, but I am only so far into it... and there is much to go yet! I checked out a few other sites, and there is so much to offer, here. Two different sites with two different styles to help with what you are into as far as forums go... Xisto, or Xisto. Xisto is also expanding into paid programs to in case of professional usage. So far, oh yes, it is worth it!I was a bit new to forums... I have explored many of them, but didn't get what I needed to out of them. I am learning more every time I come in and post... and it gives me more longevity with my site... and I get to do almost anything here in the posts.... I have found some interesting people who like to do the same things I do, and they care just as much as I do... I have already been helped SO much from the start... It is so much worth the time invested.... If you would like to do more and have a lot of usage and freedom, just get involved!I had questions and they got answered, and I put my opinion out there, and people responded... good and bad, and I learned from it... who knew!!?? I know that paid sites seem to have more to offer.... at this point, I have what I need right here! I just hope that everyone will find what they are looking for... I am making a family site to get my feet wet again before making professional sites.... This site is just what I need, and will try to continue as long as I am able. So, I think it is worth it... you just put a little effort into it, and it can be a huge enjoyment.- skedad -
  4. Well, this was quite an interesting addition... even though I was inquiring about an add-on to Dreamweaver. Sorry if my posting was misleading. Actually, I kind of like the player, though! It is a nice little change compared to embedded media players that only play. I am interested in the plugin, or the extension for Dreamweaver. It is a flash element that is used in creating web design. It is odd that it is called a viewer, when it should be like flash image creator or something to that extent. So again, I apologize, but also thank because now I have a new player, even though I am still on the search for a viewer... (How silly did that last line sound)Thanks- skedad -
  5. Hello everyone! I am posting regarding Dreamweaver extensions... I have been using the Flash Image Viewer, the default viewer of Dreamweaver, and I would LOVE to have a change of pace. I don't really do too much with Flash at the moment... I would also like to play around with Flash and applications a lot more in the future. I just don't see it being too near. I have looked around many professional sites, and have seen many different types. I have seen images that place previous, play/pause, and next buttons on corners of the panel... and they loop at pretty decent increments. Plus, I like how the buttons are on the actual image, not above, below, etc. and it doesn't add extra borders and whatnot. I am just wondering if anyone has anything different that they can recommend. I think a lot out there are to be bought... it is totally understandable... It's just unfortunate that I cannot put any funds to my site venture right now... it is strictly cheap and fun...So I enjoy trying new things, and I would love to be able to have a looping viewer that can save space and can give the Flash Image Viewer a good run for the money, and not go too far out there as far as it's structure is concerned.I hope this post makes some sense, and if there is any more information I can bring up... please let me know! (I am sitting and crossing my fingers on this one... would LOVE to find a suitable replacement... or one that will work along side viewer)Thank you all!- bob AKA skedad -
  6. I think it would depend on the site I am looking at. I have seen some pretty bad layouts, but yet there was important information, or something that was to be downloaded. I have some friends that are starting out on web designing, and it's a little hard to follow a lot of the layout, because color schemes were like red, pink, burgundy... or else with the blues, the greens, or so on.I think when I first started out... I thought anything but solid would just rock! I had to have like animated bullets... and the guestbook had to be animated... I think some people just want their pages to be sooo cool that it is overdone. I would want to check out updates on a specific game, and I went to a game site (which is done now, I think...) and they did like stretched pixel pics behind the name and info... nice idea... horribly done!Right now, I would like to make mine without so much noise, but I am trying to balance out how it is presented. So I was a bit general in this post, but yes... there are a lot of good ideas out there, it's just that there need to be a lot of makeovers at the same time!- bob AKA skedad -
  7. I have just now been able to host my site for about a week or two. I think it is a good idea to hit the forum before hosting, because it helps to get familiar with many things. It will help you learn your way around Xisto and Xisto, it will help get you social meeting different members, and it will help you get your feet wet even before being hosted.(You will have to forgive me if I jump around a lot... SOO much lack of sleep right now!!)I also only have positive things to say about Xisto. I won't lie, there for a while I was getting worried that this may not have been the place for me... I was SOO wrong! When I had a problem, I was able to post it and get MANY different views on my topic. Not only was it an ability for others to post, they took my topic seriously, and also had nice things to say, too. It was not a rule to go in and be mannerly and polite, but I think that's just how I see many of you in here, now.Nobody is perfect, and I see that with a few users being banned, but as a whole, I still see this as a professional, and learning environment. I think we can help and learn a lot from each other, while having fun, or doing our business... And I thank you all for making my experiences an enjoyable one. Hahaha... and I have only just began Xisto... and it sounds like I am making a retirement speech!Take care and have fun you guys... and thanks again for everything!- bob AKA skedad -
  8. All I have to say is WOW! How cool is that to have a different pair of eyes to look into a problem... I just went back to the image field and deleted the skemb_site link... I guess I will have to be careful and not be in such a hurry next time... As for file extensions, I believe I will stay with what I know.... BUT.... I also plan on doing some experiments with extensions and such in the near future... I appreciate all of your help! And it was a minor problem, but now I can get back and get into my site! Thanks again... And also, thanks for the nice compliment on my family! That's what I love hearing, and helps tremendously when making a family site! Til next time... - bob AKA skedad -
  9. You know, I never tried using png... I always did jpg... but then again I was working with other media other than web design... I just always liked the quality of a jpg... So that is one good idea to begin with! I use gif on vector, or animated files and banners. It seems directory wise that it sees the files... The interpreting aspect is what I am wondering... It has no problem recognizing HTML... And I would hate to have upload and embed using HTML... kinda kills the whole FTP and file managing all together! And I have to name drop geocities... but only a few days before switching to Xisto, I was still updating all of my site pages til the cows came home... Just now when I switched over it began... my Xisto page is SKEMB -- The Official Home... the banner that I planned on using... along side it being used as link... (which as I type COULD be a problem, also)... I am using the link map on Dreamweaver to make two links from the images from the jpg... Choose internet browser... The links are active onsite, but the image still does not appear... it would be quite interesting if it wasn't so annoying! Thanks for your input! It's always appreciated! - bob -
  10. Hello! I am very excited about using Xisto. This may be a minor problem, but still a problem no less. I began by uploading my index page with approximately 3 or 4 jpegs. 3 are for my title image, and a fourth is like a banner. After previewing my page, I found that only my banner was shown, but yet all text, and background colors were visible. (I guess I can add that there was a fifth jpg... for my background.) I tried many things like renaming almost every file, double checking that everything was in the correct folders... and so on.To correct this problem, I recreated my index page from scratch. (Thankfully, it is only basic at this point.) I did not have to upload the jpegs again because there were already uploaded previously... all I planned to do was to delete the old index file, and just upload the fresh copy... BINGO! All of my title jpegs and banners and backgrounds were all there! I was excited again! So, I continued to update the TEXT so I could just update using HTML already available like horizontal bar. Everything was fine...The new problem that is finally being addressed... I have all of the previous jpegs and text showing. All I did this time in Dreamweaver was ADD 1 jpg. It was added along with previous data. I then upload the new jpg, and it sees it in the public folder. Then, I go ahead and overwrite the index with the new jpg added. I preview it, and all that I see is the browser placeholder with the X. The one not showing my picture... So I tried it both with Firefox and IExplorer. Both give me only placeholders. I click to VIEW PICTURE, and it comes up error. I go back through cPanel to double check to see if my jpg is still there... and it is good as gold...So I have everything uploaded and overwrited, but the problem is that at some point, new added nonHTML elements may not show up on updated [index] pages. I don't know what to do next, and I don't want to have to redo, or recreate, a page from scratch just for the host to see the updated change... So does this make sense, or is it crazed babble!!??Thank you for your time... I will still try to do what I can, but any comments, opinions and whatnot will be very helpful. I am not a first time user... so this is why it boggles me, so... It seems so basic, but enough to almost stop me in my tracks!- bob AKA skedad -(If I can add any more details, I certainly will try!)
  11. I have a teenage sister, and a daughter who thinks she is a teen just like her aunt.... My sister lives, breathes, and sleeps myspace, myspace, MYSPACE! She just gets way too involved with it all of the time... And my daughter just looks up to my sister... so she is dying for a myspace account.I think if used correctly, facebook, myspace and many other partysites could be used well, if it was not full of spammers and well, punks online.I think my sis is fine until she lets like hundreds of new friends in... TOO CRAZY! And my parents kinda look over her shoulder, but big siblings like me and my other siblings try to steer her in the right direction. So my daughter is preteen and I am happy with her into games for girls, barbie and bratz... I have seen some little videos that still aren't right for her age!So there is like 4 or 5 years difference between my younger sister and my daughter, but there is such a huge maturity issue! Myspace can be a disaster if not used properly... but could be a good things socially if used for the good!I think whatever they are into and if it is age appropriate would be possible to access online.- bob -
  12. Now I am thinking about the movie The Number 23! Which was a pretty decent flick, no less. That is pretty funny that fun stuff can be displayed. I remember in my Network class, when you would type in like a word or phrase and then go like I'm Feeling Lucky and something completely different shows up... One was like "joke" or something to that effect, and then like the WhiteHouse.org showed up... Kinda funny! But I think the image section can be just as funny... You type in a a few phrases or key words and at least like the first 2 or 3 pages will relate... then from then on it's wide open! Sorry, I guess I am more less replying than I am demonstrating... but I was just being general.I am on Google all of the time and it just makes me laugh what comes from a few key terms...
  13. I own almost every console that Nintendo and Sony have to offer. Along the lines of crap games... I think originals are great... I think that when the companies like THQ see a good thing, they go and create the sequals WAY TOO FAST! I think like sports games can update rosters and such... they want these games out pronto so that it can keep rosters current. Now I have played many different sports games, but wrestling just goes to the season and then throws the entertainment value... and it is always continuous... So I think the company rushes before a lot changes... because in that world, there is always something new going on.I like that with other sporting games, there is enough time in off season to take time and detail and such on their games....I could ramble forever, but I think that the companies should try to at least slow it down a bit... and less bugs to hassle with...Ok, rant over!- bob -
  14. Wow, and to think that my plan was to get professional by buying a site through 1&1. I worked with 1&1 at school and liked what was offered. But I didn't really get a chance to see what all was available. I was able to have access to working on my web space, and then play around with FTP. My instructor had all of the rights to the hosting. But when I graduated, I planned on starting up my own 1&1 account... My sister started one about a year ago, and I installed WiseFTP for her uploading. She has since reformatted many a computer, and has began to lose interest due to always reinstalling. I don't usually add much to my space, but if I am able to do so now that I can host, and not just create a space, I am glad I chose Xisto...There is STILL a lot more than just saving money... maybe saving headaches. Thanks for info and it's unfortunate what we have to go through to learn new things.Good luck with your application uploads and such...- bob -

Understand, that yes these forums can help and be entertaining, but this is how we are funded... Putting a little more thought into posts will not only help earn the extra credits or hosting days, it will help build your abilities... Adding here and there will help increase post lengths, and it never hurts to maybe add some opinion to your post.If you can answer a question in a post is good... then add your opinion about what you think... maybe even some experience... If you really sit and think about it, any reply post can have length... so maybe the posts that are more appealing will have more of a reply than maybe somethings lacking interest, experience, or knowledge. And you never know, you may just learn how to better your thoughts when they are typed out and sent on in forums... You will learn more from others and more about yourself...Wow, my kid is watching PBS, but I am beginning to sound like it!Bye, all and keep up with those posts!- bob -
  16. That is good to know... I kinda freaked out because I may have deleted my confirmation email... I sent my admin a quick email, but wasn't able to get a response.... Of course, in time that would have been fine, but I was just like NOW NOW NOW! I have taken care of the situation and was able to continue on the hosting process... it involved me re-reading a few tutorials, and also re-reading my sent message... But had I not been able to figure a few things out on my own, extra support would have been great... And from now on, if I am in need, I may try this first! Thank you for the important issue! Now I am ready to get back to work, here!Later on, everyone!- bob -
  17. I must say I like how much is involved in the cPanel... It's nice to just be able to do anything in a limited amount of space... And it's kind of like a page not so much a program. As long as I can keep the cPanel separate from other work I am doing, I will be able to upload or whatnot with a breeze!I have just began hosting... actually, it's been only a few hours, or so. I want to try to beef up my hosting credits a bit while also refreshing my mind on hosting and all of the possibilities! I just hope that I can be able to glide along daily, or every few days without worry.I see that in the shoutbox, members are excited for the Xisto - Web Hosting's cPanel... I think I remember hearing that Xisto - Web Hosting is a branch, or partner of Xisto... maybe if I am in need of another domain, I would try it out!So keep up the good work everyone! I am anxious to get my site up and running, and it will be nice to upload through an FTP server again... and not file, by file, by file!Sweeeeet!- bob -
  18. I have gone by MANY nicknames and screen names... On here I just use two of them. First off, my user name: rwhj07. It's actually just my initials and my lucky/favorite number. I used to go by rwhj7 (actually still do in hotmail), but I had to redo one of my accounts over, and it already previously saw the 7 in my name, so hmmmmm... I just added the zero in front... I made a dummy account for friends to use files from me... it was a lame attempt at a somewhat throw together ftp site... there I went ahead and used _07. As for my Display name, I have just began using it... The first time I have used it was for my myspace. It is skedad. I was hoping my wife would go be skemom, but she didn't really get my idea until AFTER she did her accounts! Oh well! If that is beginning to be hints... the ske part are my kids. I have three, and unlike our website's name... I was able to have them in their order of age.... Skylar, Kari and Evan. I plan to make my website SKEMB, which adds me [bob], and my wife, Mandy. If I did it in that order it would be BMSKE... not really an easy word, but it could have just stayed that way... I just wanted to make it easier to just make it seem like a word, not a name or initial... Skylar, Kari, Evan, Mandy, Bob. I have been looking for site names FOREVER, and now it is just what I was looking for, and symbolic no less! - bob - AKA skedad
  19. While I was still in college, I was privileged with having computer and internet capabilities. I was always online while not studying, and a few of my mates were online always finding something to play. We did a lot of Halo LAN, but when it was only me and few others, we would go ahead and search the game sites like addicting games and whatnot. I came across RS and didn't think is so bad, for a site with pong like games, the RPG section wasn't too bad. I think I have tried it a few times, but I was always just starting over hoping to get into it more. Like others in this forum, I have had good and bad views of the game. The idea of mining, and cooking and whatnot was pretty interesting... But funny just following behind someone else waiting to cook something was kinda amusing at first. I also bumped into people that just wanted to either be alone, or just bad mouth... I figure it is normal this day and age... And, that might have been why I quit playing also. That and I could never find enough time while in between classes to really get into a session. I really didn't know how big of a deal it was until seeing this post. If you like the game, good for you and have fun! If not, well I'm sure there are a lot more where they come from. Me, I'll probably still to my PS2... - bob -
  20. Unless I am totally just doing things differently, I usually have my own backup. I archive basically EVERYTHING I do. Depending on taking millions of digital photos, to do many design projects. My backup system is basically CDs. I keep them with all of my install disks, setup disks. If I go to leave a site, I am not going to worry about all that is there... That is why I am leaving a site, forever. Maybe I haven't been SO in depth, but I guess if did have a backup system available, I think it would make sense to update with it. So I guess I will see what Xisto has to offer when I begin with my site... whenever I get it uploaded. I guess I am trying not to rush things, so I am just creating what I need before I host. I think the credit system does bother me a little, because I would hate to fall behind... not on purpose, of course. So my site got suspended I wouldn't know what to do! Ok, so yes, backup is important -- again I keep getting off topic.
  21. I know that it is short for character, but while in Programming classes, my instructor always called it char, just like it's spelled. (Charr)Of course, there were so many different shorthand and camel casing styles that I am glad it stood out from the original word... That make any sense!? I am typing on a few hours of sleep! But now that char is brought up, I wish I was back in that class again... Oh how time flies!
  22. I started out using Trelix Web when I first got my PC with XP. It was pretty basic and helped learning on my own. I then moved on to Frontpage, and it was still rather user friendly. I took from it what I needed, but then when adding Firefox to my PC and beginning to use Dreamweaver... I realized that Frontpage wasn't too compatible with the newly formed Firefox. Then when I went back to college, there was a Frontpage HTML class that I took, and ended up dropping. I mean the instructor and my own opinions and way of doing things clashed! I mean I would finish up a project, and he would have me redo it because it was not how it was supposed to be 100%... I'm like, ok so you labeled everything... BIG DEAL! And he did the family tree tabling with the children... And I'm like, no thanks, I'm good... besides it was a side class, and I had Dreamweaver in my major classes... GOODBYE FRONTPAGE!I still keep FP around because it is installed in Office XP, and I always like to use it just in case... Meaning I just keep it around to have it!I have learned to be a perfectionist (which isn't always a good thing), and I like being more detailed oriented with my work, and I just find that Dreamweaver is well geared for the professional web designer...But use what works best for you all! I think it is about the product, and if you aren't as comfortable with one thing as compared to the next, your product may suffer.... And I've seen it happen too many times!Ok, so it was way too serious my post... So I will summarize:I would take Dreamweaver anytime!
  23. I think that as long as a user is satisfied with how they search, there will be a search engine that is right for them.I have Firefox running as my default, and I LOVE the Googlesearch beside the address bar. I use it religiously! All I usually do if I want to keep the flow going is just type it in, and then just open a new tab... And I am still surfing away! My wife uses IE and that Search engine doesn't really do it for me. I don't know why. And I know that Dogpile is also available, but I don't see much change from using Google...I did however just use Searchmash, and I think it's like PSP to PS2... use it on the fly!I don't mind seeing so many pages of results... I just get upset once realizing the links that correspond with your search, well, don't seem to match as well. That's when the results will start to mesh into something completely different, or it goes a bit off topic, or into a different language. I don't mind that it goes different language, but I am only fluent in English. But overall, I think that Searchmash will be good for the speed demons of surfing. Need it right now will work very well if the first results are guaranteed to be what is needed. And Google could be for matching funny images that don't come close to the search words! That is funny!
  24. Gmail to Googlemail... Now I will have to change all of my created ad buttons to Googlemail! I was so excited with Gmail came out, and I had an invite... So I created an animated gif for my website. I guess it I still keep the suffix, then I will still keep the gifs up.Sounds like when MSN had added accounts through passport. I still use hotmail, even though they've added like MSN and such. Now Hotmail is Windows Live! That would be me if I was in charge of MSN... everything would always be changing.Well as long as Gmail doesn't have problems with the product than the labeling... I would put googlemail in place of gmail... but I don't think I would redo a whole new account... I already have WAY too many email accounts from here to there anyways! And I think I am just floating with all of the features of Gmail. It was cool giving out invites, but now it just got old...
  25. Ha! many that is so crazy it just might work! I can see my wife now... but there could be a bad spin to this one... She loves to jam to her iShuffle all of the time... I can just see the entanglement that is jammin to the iTunes and then trying to look at your locket at the same time! Ok, so that was a bit much... but man... I think it is sooo crazy with what is coming out nowadays. I loved my cellphone, but it was an older model, and after doing anything for a few minutes, BOOM there goes the cell battery. I want a camera phone just to take ridiculous pics without having to worry about losing battery when I actually would answer the phone again! But seriously, GO TECHNOLOGY! I want my daughters and my little guy to get into everything new nowadays, and go outside too... maybe everything portable is the way to go! I just might have to get myself a nice laptop too... But not for my neck!* will try to remember the locket for my wife's bday... hmmm, Christmas is coming!*
