  1. I've just bought Java for Dummies, the 900 page book - £25.99, but well worth it. I'm gonna pause PHP for a while and get to grips with Java.
  2. For a demo of phpBB3, go to http://www.phpbbhacks.com/features/phpbb3demo.php
  3. color: #FFFFFF:Should be color: #FFFFFF; This wont make any difference, but it is better to do it.
  4. Remember, that only IE supports this way of scrollbar colour change.
  5. You need to increase your credit amount. Your account is suspended.
  6. Firstly, can everybody be patient. It is obvious that he has an account, or he wouldn't have made this post. Therefore, he has a site. The servers were having a bad time, therefore the site, including Asta, were not always available.Dumpster7, you must have sorted your website by this point, as I see no problem. And as a developer, I think you should re-think the use of frames. They are SEO defiant, as the web-bots can't crawl and index the pages properly, therefore giving you a worse result in the SE lists. Your current design does not need the use of frames, infact, it would be better if you just used no frames.I understand that there are times when an IFRAME is needed, but frames, for me and hundreds of other developers, is out of the question. You don't see top professionals using them on their sites, so why should we?
  7. I would love a super-computer (1024 racks of 3.2GHz processors), but they come at a price of 1/2 million and no GUI OS works on them, only IBM OS.For design, personally I like the strength of those systems, however the structure of Mac is a little to be said for.
  8. Longhorn was a codename, Vista is the true OS name.I use Windows 2000 Pro on my other machine, SP4, and I find it to be perfectly secure. Any other updates would only cause problems. It is fast (for the specs) and is extremely usable. Almost all tweaking systems for XP work for 2000, as XP was built on 2000 technology. As so many people use 2000, especially those who use it as a server, will make sure that it does not become obsolete, as not everyone can afford to buy Server 2003.Windows have the problem that there are far too many security exploits, because they launch the systems before they are ready. A very dangerous approach that is keeping their life line just above a candle.
  9. There have been many viruses, and one particular that comes to mind, where it replaced the homepage of people's websites with a very strange message. It hit millions of websites and did considerable, but not long-term damage. But, as you can see, even loose-ended sites have easy access. In addition to my original topic, please make sure that all your permissions on your folders/files of your account are all set properly, the last thing you want is a hacker to go through one file and make his/her way into your database.
  10. Perhaps link it with Antilost. Afterall, that is what it is there for. I think it would be a great idea, and would make things a lot more easier. I have yet to find a decent looking site with accurate and up-to-date information displayed in a purposeful (and logical) order. There are also a lot of false reviews on directories, that quite franquely piss me off. With the new Xisto.net (I have tried it), I think there will be a lot of competition, and honestly, with the current excellence of Xisto providing these services, I think it will be a very strengthy host. A lot of my friends are making sites on a website called piczo.com, they are easy to make and very quick. However, I have tried it, and I find a lot of it detremental to the integrety of web-design. People who are colour-blind are creating sites, and honestly, there should be some kind of magic gun, that I could shoot people with. <tangent />
  11. I think, you can cheat the system a little. If you connect a two-way USB cable from your new machine to your old one, you should be able to do it. Note that I am going on the presumption of a theory that data trasnfer comes in multiple forms.
  12. If you class HTML/DHTML/CSS as programming, then sign me up for 3 years ago/2 years ago/1 year ago.As for PHP, I started on Sunday, so I'm getting into the whole thing. I want to start learning either Java and/or C++ at Christmas time.
  13. That is from an e-mail, you scanker. Funny though.
  14. I would prefer it if you didn't With my limited experience, I would go for MySQL. Being anti-microsoft, I only use their products when I need to. I have only seen postgreSQL, and by the looks of the Elephant, it scares me, if it was pink, I would run away. I have tested Oracle at school when they were messing up (and still are) with the servers.
  15. I thought it was always called firefox, afterall, ThunderBird is the email client. They will more than likely keep the same name throughout, it has got a large reputation. At the moment, every forum I go onto and every FireFox manic's website I visit, there are hundreds of icons and avatars that are getting people to switch to FireFox. This makes the exisiting IE worse. People complain a lot about IE, especially me, but what we fail to realise, is that it requires user input to make things better. And that is where FF is superior. Microsoft, has always been about itself. The CEO doesn't understand the term of market research, and base all their ideas on single-threaded logic. Mozilla, on the other hand have taken the step of using Open-Source by the neck. Microsoft products will always need improving, as long as it is company-dependant. They need to open up into the massly expanding market of the OpenBSD, in order to gain the respect they urgently need.
  16. Talk about bumpin an old thread. Anyway, moving on.Like so many others of this topic, I find that there should be no set antivirus/antispyware/firewall for everyone. We all use different things, we all have a custom system. I use that many different programs when doing a total clean-up, I hardly keep track of what I have and haven't used.Personall, I use two main programs for my system and antispyware sparingly (once a month). They are CA eZ-Trust AntiVirus and ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm. They have sucessfully kept my system from danger (except for WebHost, which is confusing a lot of people). And for anti-spyware, I use whatever is on the top of listings.
  17. Firstly, you are being prejudice, we should learn to accept others, even if they are homophobes. Some people find the very thought disgusting, I personally hold nothing to this, but it is how it is. I am not saying it is right nor wrong, it simply is. Secondly, if people continue to flame this thread due to an avatar, I find it extremely childish and immature. Continuation of this sort of language from any member will result in the thread being deleted. Lastly, welcome to the community, Elvellon. I hope you have a great time here and learn/contribute much. --mik
  18. And welcome to asta LJ, if you would, can you make a new topic, putting a brief about yourself will help me and the community get to know you a little better and also who we should bombard with questions on the topics you know. --mik
  19. The servers are being shifted, you may need to try later.
  20. Although your skills are obviously improving, I still think, from looking at other people's work, that you still need to combine all of your skills. For displaying one skill at a time, you are doing an excellent job, from vector shapes to 3D polies, it is looking good. I would, however, like to see more work like your Half Life 2, where you have obviously put a lot of effort into it.Also, the save quality of your images is not that good. Although this isn't a direct problem, the quality of the JPG looks to be about 50 or 40 because of he blurred pixels.
  21. Lol, I asked my uncle about the best security device for this situation, and survey says: I think that is a little extreme, but perhaps it would work. I don't think there is a 100% safe method, you just need to do whatever is simple but effective, like jipman said.
  22. I think most of us are here for the reason that we like computers, although at the moment, Microsoft is starting to pee me off.Your previous predicament sounds very agitating, no wonder you apologised to the admin lol.
  23. Interesting artifact, however, if you lived in the UK, you would have most certainly been taught all of these figures. It has also to come to affect, that more people die of another STI than AIDs, however, at the moment, I can not think for the life of me, what it is called.
