  1. These jokes look more like the ones that are circulated around in email. I never received any of them, and it's just as well because I don't like them. No offense Tommy_Vercetti, but I personally feel you can contribute more to the forum than PJs (Poor Jokes). Scrolling down for each joke is annoying and there's too much of blank space in the jokes. You could have removed that AND the crazy sentences like 'socho' and 'Let's C if you can solve this one'. That way, you could have put all of them in one single post. It's not the number of posts that count ... it's the size & the matter. I don't know if this forum has post count, but if it does, I'm not too sure that the moderators will appreciate such posts. Just some advice... nothing personal.
  2. ... cool pics. Haven't had a good laugh in a long time now .
  3. Looks pretty good. Real professional IMO . But, how about centering the page? In 1024x786 it's kinda sticking to the left border of the screen. Try centering the page.Other than that, it looks great.
  4. hehe... I got the same score 7/10. But, seriously.... are we supposed to know these characters? I've never even heard of any one of them.
  5. Ok ... I can see the whole template now. Funny, the last time, there wasn't a nav bar on the left ... just the one on the top. It's a pretty cool animation, but as Techocian said ... the navbar shouldn't be blank. The effect on mouse over is great, but no one knows about the links unless they move the mouse over them. The second template (which you made to show your teacher) is also cool. But, on 1024x768, it's aligned to the left with a gap at the right. Try centering it on the page and adding a border to it. Keep up the good work
  6. I've been using Gnome for a couple for a few days now and it is pretty cool. But I must admit that it does feel a bit slower than KDE. The startup is faster but the performance is a bit slower. For example, when I click on the the Applications, Places or Desktop menu buttons, it has a delay of anything between a half second and a second. Of course, that's not much, , but its instantaneous in KDE.
  7. Looks great . I'd join, but I can't stand Harry Potter. Just a suggestion ... try making the background fixed and no-repeat. Might look better. Just use <body style="background:url('path to castle.gif') fixed no-repeat;" >
  8. Where is it? I can just see a black box at the top with a dial to the left and a blue colored oval within it. Is that the template? No offense but, isn't it a little incomplete? :)Btw, how come you aren't in the hosting group if you've got hosting here?
  9. Aaargh! How can you like Naruto when there's the Dragonball series ?Just Kidding. I couldn't find any Naruto episodes dubbed into English and that's why I think Dragonball is the best. Glad to have you aboard, Uzumaki-Naruto . Hope you enjoy yourself here at Xisto.
  10. You mean people actually wear such stuff in public?!! Boy, how crazy can people get . Why bother buying one at all? They could just as well walk around in their underwear.
  11. Kaspersky as an anti-virus is excellent. It's detection methods are much superior to Norton. Norton's database uses an exact copy of the viruses to cross check against with the files on your computer whereas kaspersky uses a method which looks for characteristic parts in the code which can be used to identify a virus. But Kaspersky's real-time protection is very memory-hogging. I've tried it and it eats away your RAM like crazy. Norton is pretty good for everyday use, but on my comp with 256 MB RAM, I had to chuck it in favour of PC-Cillin which though is not as good as Norton, it uses less memory and it gets the job done. Why don't you try out one of the free anti-viruses available like AVG or something? Try googling and see if you can find any. I've never tried any of them, but if they do their job well, you can save some money.
  12. Sorry ... the link above points to dbpoweramp but i typed it as mp3gain while thinking of something else. Can a mod change that and delete this post please
  13. I always use mp3gain to convert files from one format to another. It's free for use and converting from one format to another but if you buy the license, you can even edit the mp3 tags. You can download free plugins for converting from one format to another also.
  14. That's true but there is one person who knows everything you're visiting ... the guy behind the proxy server. Better use a proxy that you can trust. A proxy maintains a log of every packet that passes through it including the originating IP address. So, don't think you are completely safe just because you are using a proxy. If you want complete anonymity, I would suggest you use TOR. It kind of branches out to different computers all over the globe so that it's almost impossible to trace the IP of the system from where it's originating.
  15. Definitely. I would suggest you take some time out and search around on the internet. You can save yourself a whole lot of money. Some of the free software you get from the net (which don't contain spyware) are just as good as the commercial ones.
  16. That's something I don't know . I had the same problem with LILO when I formatted my Linux partition from windows. It would just display 'LI' on the screen and hang up.
  17. You shouldn't have any problem with this one if you still have the your windows installation CD. You've actually removed the files necessary for grub to function properly, hence it isn't working now. I had the same problem a year ago. This can be fixed by restoring the windows Master Boot Record (MBR). Boot from the Windows XP CD and let all the initial information whiz past. When you come to the first interactive screen, it says 'Press R to start recovery console'. Press R there and then it takes you to a black screen asking to select the type of keyboard. Don't press anything if you've got the default keyboard. Next it shows you the windows installations you've got. Since you've got only one windows installation, it should show something like: 1. C:\WINDOWSEnter your choice: Enter '1' (one) as your choice and then it asks you for your adminstrator password. Enter the adminstrator password and you're then given a command prompt. At the command prompt you have to type the following command as it is: fixmbr After this, type 'exit' and the system will reboot. Remove the CD and you should boot into Windows without any problems. To get more information you can go here. Another way would be to get some Linux rescue disk (I used Mandrake 10.1 install disk) and boot into rescue mode and select 'Restore Windows boot partition'.
  18. Ok, a small suggestion ... if you are planning on learning to use GNU/Linux, I would advise you to go through it all the way. Don't stop in the middle just because it's too annoying to use. I know, because I've been there . There are times when you want to do a simple thing like copying a file from one place to another place and it might take you well over a half hour just to figure out how to do it ... especially if it's the first time you're experiencing a linux environment and no one is nearby to show you the ropes. But keep at it. It's not all that difficult once you get the hang of it. Things that you can do in windows in seconds might take hours to do or configure in linux initially. But once you figure it out, it becomes like second nature. Linux is just as versatile and useful as Windows is. Now, with the word of advice out of the way, let's get to your actual question To be able to dual-boot, you can use one of the distros mentioned below. They're very user friendly and take care of dual booting your system without much effort. But you need to have some unpartitioned space on your hard disk in which you can install Linux. If you don't have one, you need to make one by deleting one of your windows partitions. You need atleast 5GB of space for a comfortable install with some space left over, but if you intend to use it regularly, I would suggest atleast 10GB space. Hatim has gone over most of the important points. Most of the distros these days have KDE and GNOME, so it shouldn't be too difficult for basic usage like surfing and listening to songs. Here are some of the good beginners distros (in my order of preference): 1. Open SuSE / SuSE 2. Mandriva 3. Ubuntu 4. Fedora Core 4 All of them are free to download and use. You can get the ISO images directly from the websites. To read a brief discription about each of the distros, you could go over to Distrowatch and check them out. These distributions are among the top 10 most popular ones. But, if you want to just try out Linux without installing, you should try out a LiveCD. You just pop it into the CD drive and reboot and you're in a Linux environment in minutes. You can even surf the net and watch movies with it. It's the best option if you want to first get a feel of Linux before you alter anything on your hard disk. Ubuntu has a regular installation CD as well as a LiveCD. You can try that out or you can also try out Knoppix. Goes for anyone on this forum. You want help ... you can ask anyone and we'll be glad to help you out . Hope this helps you out. Cheers.
  19. Now, that's good one .Love this joke, I'm forwarding it to my friends.
  20. 5 FPS? And not including TPAs? I really don't make much of a differentiation between the two. But for FPS, now, here are my favs:1. Half-Life (Both 1 and 2)2. Doom 33. Return to Castle WolfensteinHmmm... I guess these are my favorites, but if TPAs were included, I'd add Max Payne and GTA as well.
  21. Just a question ... are any of these things durable? You don't want to mod a case and then end up paying for it with the computer right?
  22. I think you should check up and see if the processor fan is working or not. Go into the BIOS setup and see under the 'Hardware Monitor'. I use an AMD 2600+ at college and an AMD 2000+ at home and the cpu fan is never below 3500rpm. I've had to replace the fan twice at home.I'm not sure of the burning point, but if the system is working fine, then there shouldn't be any reason for alarm. Whenever my processor gets overheated, it hangs up. But once I reboot, it works fine again. It happened a couple of times at home when I was playing Quake 3 because of improper cooling, but after underclocking the system, I didn't have anymore problems.
  23. All of them are compressed real media codec. If I compressed them using divx, at this size, the resolution will be terrible.
  24. Here's my newly installed gentoo KDE desktop: forums.xisto.com/gallery/image/18-octahedron/ I've tried Gnome quite some times, but I just can't stand it. The arrangement in the menu, the look and feel of it doesn't really appeal to me. IMO, KDE is much easier to use and customise than Gnome. Another desktop I like is fluxbox. Once you customise fluxbox, it's very fast and lightweight. Of course, windows users will find it a bit difficult to use initially. Most of my friends who used my computer would rather press 'reset' and log into windows than try to break their heads over fluxbox .
  25. Finally got nvidia to work. Apparently, there is some problem with the current nvidia drivers and kernel-2.6.13. So, I unmasked nvidia-glx, nvidia-kernel and 2 other dependencies that were required for the drivers. After emerging, just edited the xorg.conf file as given in the handbook and restarted X. I'm using the 7676 nvidia drivers. It's working great now. Time to try out some games . I'll get to them as well. After spending so much time with this, I'm not leaving any stone unturned. I'm going to learn this distro down to the basics . Thanks for your help.
