Your Thoughts On Main Streaming Linux What next?
abhiram replied to snutz411's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That's the whole point. You don't have to be good at computers to know how to use linux. Everyone's been trained to use windows from the start. It's a mindset with everyone that windows is the easiest OS available. If you were given linux instead of windows when you started out with computers with no other alternative, you'd have gotten used to it and felt that windows is for geeks . Linux has great common desktop potential. These holidays, since I prefer using gentoo rather than windows, I installed gentoo on the home system. Since my mom and bro need it to listen to songs, watch movies, surf the net and play solitaire , I showed them how to do it in GNOME. No problems at all, they're just as comfortable with it. They just needed a little help initially and then no problems at all. Mind you, they're hardly interested in computers like me. I always fix up the computer whenever I come home so that they have no problems with it. -
Alright, I'm glad to know it helped you out . I'm the kind of guy who prefers not to take medicines for as long as possible. I mean, I don't mind a paracetamol, crocin or the likes for fever, but antibiotics just make me feel jittery. Also, new and experimental drugs give me the creeps. But I'm glad it's working out for you. Hope it helps you do your best .

Something Far From The Normal has anyone before?
abhiram replied to soccerdvl18's topic in General Discussion
Hehe ... portals into which people would go into and never come back. How many people went into the church and disappeared? Did anybody ever try to send a search party? I'm inclined to believe that it was just a story. -

Your Thoughts On Main Streaming Linux What next?

I guess that's true to some extent. People started seeing Redhat boxes in stores along side windows and for almost the same price. And since redhat was 'selling' linux, it needed to advertise. Even now, people prefer to use Windows everywhere I go to. This isn't because of it's 'ease of use' or 'ease of maintanance ... it's because of it's 'ease to get plenty of tech guys who can take care of the system'. I chose Linux a year ago because it's completely free and because it gave me more control over the system than windows. Also, it's more fun to use Linux than windows because it's more 'geekish' in nature . -
Oooook ... i think i get the picture now. It's a simulation of a commercial fleet done together with lots of other people who join in together at a website. Sounds quite interesting. Maybe I'll try it up one of these weekends and see how it goes about. I got this link while searching for more info on virtual airlines: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Kind of explains everything about a virtual airline. All the best with your fleet Juventino .

Hey Juventino,Sorry, but what is a virtual airline? Are you starting something similar to a virtual game like MS Flight simulator or something? Or is this an online multiplayer game?

Hey SSH, Sorry to hear that dude ... but just wondering why you took the test. I mean, did you really have the symptoms for ADHD like you said: or did you just go out and get tested just because you had some time on your hands? I'm not suggesting anything, but if it's a serious thing, maybe you'd like to get a second opinion? I mean, why take those drugs if you never experienced anything like ADHD before in your life? I'm not saying anything against the doctors who diagnosed you with it, but it's your body man, you don't want to chance it right?

LOL, tht's some pretty good advice dude. Too bad it doesn't apply to me ... coz I prefer to spend time with my folks rather than hang out with friends. Of course, one of the main reasons for my doing so might be because I don't booze .

Pioneer Launches First Pc-based Blu-ray Disc Drive
abhiram replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think it's great if Blu-Ray and DVD become popular formats. For me, a 700MB size movie file is clear enough for my 15'' monitor. I can have my entire movie collection on a single blu-ray and have enough space to put some games as well. Hehe ... I still remember being very surprised when I first saw the 1.44MB Floppy disk back in the days of MS-DOS. 1kb=1024bytes=1024 characters ..... 1mb=1024kb!!! That's a hell of a lot of space . Now, even a 700mb CD isn't much at all. -
My Webdesign Using Photoshop Cs2 in CS2
abhiram replied to ikenalleenik's topic in General Discussion
No offense, but the site is kind of a strain on my eyes. I mean, this is the first time that I'm conscious of having to move my eyeballs from left to right to look at the the big red boxes. Also, the color contrast is also not very pleasing to the eyes. Looks kinda dull. If you are using photoshop, you probably can make it look a lot better. Try putting a banner on the top and changing the color of the 'Ikbenmooi.be' on the top. Also, like saint-michael said, try using a header and a footer. Change the boxes a bit. Both of them don't have to be identical. Try removing one of the boxes. You could in fact, do away with the menu box on the left and have a horizontal popup menu on the top. That way, you'll have more space for the content on the page. You can do the exact same thing using CSS. I would seriously recommend you try a hand at CSS instead of just photoshop. Using CSS, you can make the page fit any resolution, and plenty of mouse-over effects are possible without using javascript. If you are interested, check out the CSS tutorial at w3schools. -
Did you send a mail to support_AT_astahost_DOT_com? Opaque rarely checks his PMs. It's better if you send a mail directly to support. After all, there are people to look after these things.

ROFLMAO .... ... tht's amazing. I wonder if it really happened. But then again bash.org is full of instances from crazy guys like that. That's one real cool conversation ... you just made my day .

Great tutorial Moon . I've actually been able to do the same thing in the GIMP (well almost). Of course, it's not as good as yours, but hey ... I'm just starting out in GIMP. Here's mine: Just for the note, here's what you have to use in GIMP: Photoshop<->Gimp Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur : Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur (To get the same effect as in Photoshop, give different values for horizontal and vertical. I used 10 horizontal and 3 vertical) Filters > Distort > Shear : Filters > Distort > Whirl & Pinch Blending Options > Drop Shadoe : Script-Fu > Layer Effects > Drop Shadow Couldn't find any plastic wrap but, you can't have everything for free right .

Just to clarify it a bit, she needs 10 credits, not posts. You can get 10 credits with even 2-3 posts depending on the size of the posts. NAchi: Welcome to Xisto. Hope you enjoy your time here as much as I do. Houdini has mentioned some important guidelines. I would just like to add that ... please make long and meaningful posts. Do not post one-liners or post crazy stuff like 'LOL' and so on. Also make sure that you don't copy-paste stuff you find from other websites. Spammers are not taken kindly to on this forum. Once again, I hope you have an enjoyable stay. Cheers .

Actually, tht's true. I've been using it for one month now and the problem is ... it doesn't work if you use the Xisto servers. You have to use the IP address of the servers or it doesnt' work. I've tried quite a number of times, but it just doesn't work. And another problem is ... I keep getting spam emails from the stupid admin of the site. Once he sent me 29 emails at a stretch. Luckily, it was in gmail and all of them got collected under one name. They keep sending a mail every now and then.

I tried to play the demo. But I don't think it works with my graphics card. I've got a geforce4 on board and I get a whole lot of crazy polygons in the game along with the voices.

My Latest Work... I hope you like them... please rate
abhiram replied to Kid Saiyan's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I'm no expert, but I think they're pretty good. I don't care much for the spidey sig, but the other two are quite good IMO. I like the first one the most. But your animated sig is really cool. And it's not very big either (~120k). -
Need Help With Designing A Website With Database We need some help :)
abhiram replied to MarkBla's topic in Programming
Use a CMS (Content Management System) like Mambo or PHPNuke. They'll do everything for you with databases, polls and user ids. There are plenty of CMS's available on the net, but these are the ones I know about. -
What's the big deal about it? I mean, it's just an icon, not exactly a major standardisation of Javascript or CSS or anything.
