What are you talking about? Wake up and smell the coffee son .Just kidding ... it's a nice thought, being happy and give a smile and all that. But, in my opinion, it's not that easy.Anyways .... welcome to Xisto. A word of advice, post intelligently and post professionally. Xisto is primarily a 'Tech' forum and it will be appreciated if your posts contribute towards it. Also, one-liners are not appreciated, and please do check up on the FAQ.Have a good time .

That's really a nice pic. It's just the kind of pic I'd like on my wall .

Nice, really nice. IMO, very well structured and easy to navigate through the site. Also, the idea with the Google Ads is very clever, that way they aren't obtrusive at all and blend in well with the website. The color combination is perfect. Just one small thing, why'd you remove the thumbnails for the wallpapers? They were there the last time I checked. Thumbnails are always better than a list for wallpapers.Overall, I would rate your website 9.5/10 for both layout and functionality. If you put thumbnails as well, it's 10/10 . Good work.

A Really Funny And Retarded Story Haha.
abhiram replied to darkranger's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm sorry ... am I missing something? I clicked on the link ...... This one ... and all I got was a terribly obscene pic. Something not right here? -
If it is really urgent, I would suggest you send a mail to the support team. Read more about it Here.

Oh, sorry ... I didn't know that. Till yesterday, I've been trying not to use fantastico because I wanted to make my own templates and code my own stuff. But after trying for a long time, I finally gave up trying to re-invent the wheel and used fantastico. Click, click, click ... that's it, Wordpress and coppermine installed. I've got a fully functional personal webpage with a photo gallery in minutes. If I had to do this from ground up, it might have taken me atleast a month with dedicated effort. Now, instead of trying to design CSS layouts from scratch, I think I'll start designing them for Wordpress. I guess the idea is ultimately the same, because in either case, you need to be creative to design a good layout.

Flashing For Candy Website Template
abhiram replied to ebbinger_413's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Well... would have been better if you had put it online. Here, it looks a bit messy and too dark IMO. Maybe it'll look better once you put it up. Right now, the contrast between Asta's layout and your image is too high. Hard to comment. -
Man, this is absolutely hilarious. I'm forwarding it to lots of people myself .

People who are already hosted what do you think of astahost?
abhiram replied to gritto's topic in Web Hosting Support
I second that. That's the most important factor that matters to me. Free hosting or not, a forum is a forum .... and unless the people in the forum are helpful, I can't stand posting there. I visit many communities and forums, but the atmosphere is never as friendly as Xisto. This is the best . -
Fantastico was always there, ever since I got hosting. But you're right, it's one of the features that makes life easier .

Microsoft Want To Standardize Office Formats
abhiram replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
What? Microsoft is actually using the word 'Open'? Does this mean that Openoffice, KOffice and the likes will be able to save documents in Office formats without any loss in quality or structure? That would be great. The only reason I still need MS Office is because it's used by everyone in campus and saving it in MS Office format in Openoffice gives a slightly different output when viewed in MS Office. -
What Language Is Linux Written In ?

Well... I gotta try everything I can right now, because I've only got one sem left before I graduate and once I leave, I doubt I'll have free internet . Besides, I don't think I'll have the freedom and time later on. I'll give LFS a shot .... let's see what it has to offer . -
Finally, a work-around that actually works . I've downloaded net2ftp and uploaded it to my site and extracted it. Now I can easily upload and download files .... even download a complete backup in zip format of the entire website. It's definitely better if you can use it. You probably have no problem using it at home or elsewhere, but in my campus, we have a proxy which blocks all the ports except 3128 (for http connections). Damn the campus proxy

How Do I Insert Clip Into Sig ? quick question
abhiram replied to ebbinger_413's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Whenever I open this page, I'm getting a popup for logging into bluewaffle.astahost.com's cpanel. Is there something wrong with one of the links posted? Also, ebbinger .... I can't see the image. It's just giving me a 'user posted image'. -
Hey yea ... I remember reading about it in school .I still remember ... it was built by J P Eckert and J W Mauchly (No, I did not google for that). It was over 2 stories tall and used valves. That was the reason early computers were so huge ... because they used valves. Also, the myth back then was that with time, computers would get bigger and bigger (it was mentioned in Popular Mechanics if I remember correctly).

Okay, now I've been able to login and make changes once more (finally). This time, very surprisingly, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and ftp.abhiram.be are working but abhiram.be has stopped working. I've posted a screenie below. It's working only if I give the IP address of Xisto and doesn't work if I just give the nameservers.

About: For the uninitiated, Amarok is an mp3 player for Linux which uses the KDE libraries. IMO, Amarok is the best player for Linux, and now with the new release (1.3.6) they've added even more features. Features: Amarok has got more features than any player I know of (Winamp included). The best feature (IMO) is downloading the lyrics of the song that is currently playing (using the artist and album name) from lyrc.com.ar. In addition to that, it also downloads a thumbnail of the album cover of the song currently playing from Amazon.com and it gets stored in a (MySQL if it is installed or else SQLlite) database. The new version also downloads info about the album, artist or song that is playing from Wikipedia. It has a media library and also has an attached file browser (which works similar to Konqueror). It has dynamic playlists where it automatically selects some songs and appends them to your playlist. You can even connect your iPod to it for transferring songs or burn your songs into a CD. I have only presented some of the features of Amarok. It has many more features (such as shortcut keys, equaliser, visualisations and so on) which make using Amarok a real pleasure. Drawbacks: One drawback with amarok, is it doesn't play video files. Also, some of the engines don't allow for playing anything other than mp3s. The xine engine is the one I use (you can choose between artsd, gstreamer and xine engines) and it plays wma files as well. Also, amarok isn't very aesthetically pleasing . It has a compact mode where it 'sort of' looks like any other player but IMO, it keeps you from utilising the player to it's fullest. Links: Amarok Homepage Some Screenshots Somebody got it working in windows as well ---- Here. On a side note You can download a lyrics plugin for Winamp from lyrc.com.ar.

Favorite Band? Steely Dan . A little less known, but amazing music all the same. Started out in the 1970s by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, it's a different style of music with rock bordering on Jazz .... amazing guitar and piano solos. Other than that, I also listen to Metallica, Queen, Lynrd Skynrd, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton and plenty of others.

You mean you can't even play the game unless you connect to the Internet and download their patch? That sux big time. I didn't know the HL2 developers were making it harder for regular users also to use their products. Isn't it even mentioned on the box that it is completely unusable unless you download the patch from the net?

Anyone Miss The Old Super Nintendo And Sega Games
abhiram replied to CroSpartacus's topic in Computer Gaming
My first console video game ... the Atari 2600 <sigh>. I was around 7-8 years old back then when we got it (now 22 ). I remember my parents setting up a curfew for me and my big bro since we were playing it too much in the holidays. We would get up early in the morning and play for 2-3 hours and that's it for the day . Enduro, Berserk, Keystone Kapers ..... aaaah, those were the games. 5 years later, we got the Nintendo Home computer which came with 20,000 built-in games (actually it was like 20-30 games ... they kept repeating). I used to play that thing like a maniac. Mario and Contra .... day in and day out. Hehe ... remember the thing in Mario ... "Thank you Mario, but our Princess is in another Castle" ? It was such a big thrill the first time I finished the entire game. I've got all emulators for all the games I used to play. I get nostalgic whenever I play them. I've even got the Atari ROMs. These are the ones I used to have. I think I still do, but they're broken and lying in some corner of the house. -
What Language Is Linux Written In ?
abhiram replied to Jguy101's topic in Websites and Web Designing
A little off-topic, but some of my friends tried ubuntu 5.04 and hated it... three of them to be precise .... and they switched to alternate OSes. One of them jumped back to Windows and CS , one to Archlinux and one took up gentoo on my suggestion. Surprisingly, one of them got pained with the package management system, and the other two got pained with X (Max resolution of 640x480 on 17" monitors ... i810 chipset). The guy who didn't like the package management is now using gentoo and is very happy with it.LFS sounds very interesting. I think I'm gonna take it up next semester when I have some free time. How long will it take to install LFS if I follow the handbook? A week maybe? Since Gentoo took 1 day to give me a usable KDE, LFS should take longer. -
Well... abhiram.be and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ were associated with the domain servers own default page ... I changed them to point to Xisto without adding any new records. Also, there was one record with the IP address and I changed it to the IP address pointed in my CPanel. But now, I don't see it anymore for some strange reason. All these settings are changed in PowerAdmin in the domain name site.

I registered for a new domain at .be, and looks like I can't connect to my ftp account. I'm behind a firewall so I've got to use net2ftp. It's been quite some time since I used ftp. I used to upload files using the upload script in cpanel. If I try to upload a file, I'm getting the error: I tried to login using firefox as '<username>:<password>@ftp.abhiram.be', but I keep getting: I've checked in CPanel under the ftp manager, and it says to use ftp.abhiram.be to login to ftp connections. Any ideas? Please merge with above post. Here is what I'm using in the domain register page: I added the line with 'ftp.abhiram.be' to see if it would make any difference. Didn't help.
