You would actually stop frozen in time - from the Earth's point of view anyways. Let me clearify things up a bit. As any object approaches the speed of light, the 'time' they experience tick slower than 'time' for a stationary object. This is known as time dilation. However, if you were to look at the object from a stationary point of view, 'time' would appear to be frozen, but for the object itself, you would be experiencing 'time' that is faster - like watching a video on fastfoward. Let me give a better example - you have a spacecraft with a human onboard, and this spacecraft can travel at velocity of light. This spacecraft will take off from earth and travel 20 light-years. During this time as you are observing the spacecraft through a telescope, it'll appear time in the spacecraft have stopped - or slowed like nothing is happening at all on the spacecraft. On the spacecraft, as the human is looking at the earth via a telescope, it'll seem like he's watching time lapse video of earth - as weeks passing by in seconds. This does not mean the human onboard the vessel will stop aging. It simply means, as the human travels back to earth, decades or centuries will have past by on earth but to the human, it only took him years. So compared to earth, the human will have stopped aging (relatively, since he still aged compared from the moment he left earth) An example of time dilation can be found here. Although it wasn't much, I believe the person who holds the record for travelling forward through time is the astronaut who spent the most time on the space station MIR. I couldn't find any information on this astronaut or whatever his name is, but I think after spending close to a year or more onboard the station, he gained like a fraction of a second foward in time.

all 3 of the services are set to automatic, my key is valid and authentic, and I had planned on reintalling the OS and Formatting the comp and bringing it back up from the floor, but unfortunatly my WinXP CD is toast...well I'm gonna have to see about a new disk...this problem doesn't seem to be fixable so I'm just gonna redo the system.

The only real problem with going to flash cards or any type of memory stick is that they are "volitile memory", for those that don't know what I mean by that; volitile memory requires some sort of powersupply to maintain it. So that being said, you have to keep plugging the card or USB memory stick into a drive from time to time to keep it charged. Also they are easily erased by walking through a EM feild.I doubt that we will ever really get away from a hard memory system like a DVD of some sort. They might get to be very, very small but I don't think we will ever get to a point where we can fully trust volitial memory as our mainstay for long term memory.As for the speed at which we write the new Blu-Ray disks, the only real problem with getting faster write speeds is the speed at which the laser can reliably write to the disk as well as the reliability of the delivery of information to the drive itself. With the advent of SATA and the SATA2 standard I think we will see the write speed of the Blu-Ray drives reach 2x and 4x before 2 years has gone by.

I'm telling you check into the D-Link Gamers Lounge if your really worried about gaming latancy, it really does lower the latency issue to almost nothing.

for the new router...I would suggest a different one then the lynxsys one. I'm an avid gamer myself and I would suggest one by DLink called the Gamers Lounge, it is also Gigabit capable and runs a protocol called "gamers Fuel" that gives priority to games. Ok I've gott'n a new vid card (aslo ATI) and have installed it after using the Driver Cleaner program to clear out the old drivers and am still having the same problem so I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with my Motherboard or that the windows OS is very corrupted, so I'm gonna fdisk my system and start fresh. I hope that works..lol..really can't afford a new mobo right now but if I have to I might be able to scrape up enough for a new mobo. I've run a series of very intensive hardware tests that say my hardware is all ok but I don't know...I wonder if it could be a powersupply issue, I've got a power monitor running and the +12 volt part drops as low as 11.5 when the system crashes so I'm thinking that maybe a new powersupply might resolve this issue.What brought me to this latest theory is that I just upgraded to 1 gig of ram and resently put in a second 40 gig HDD and the new vid cards (both of which are ATI's) are a 9250 and a 9600xt which replaced a Nvidia G4 440MX so the power requirements are totally different. Anyone else think that what I've described could be caused by a weakening powersupply?

cyborgxxi, this thread is about more then just the grammer, and spelling of the moderators/admins/members, it also concerns the way the "professionalism" of all who post here seems to be slipping a bit lately.Or atleast thats the what I've gathered and come away from this thread with. I just mainly posted about the grammer and spelling as my idea on a first step in correcting the slip we as a community have let happen. But thats just my humble opinion.

Well I have to try to make another point here. After reading Khymnon's last post I feel like I have to say the following in response.Some people have a hard time grasping what others might consider a simple point. Now don't get me wrong I fully understand that there are areas that the IT community might consider "kindergarten" areas where the basic tutorials cover in a very to the point and straight forward way and we think that they explain it plain enough so why can't everyone get it?Well here is the problem from my point of view. Some people just can't get the "If A happens then go to B" idea with out going through point C first. LOL...did I lose ya there? Ok maybe this will help explain my point a bit better.When I initially went to college I had to take "advanced" math courses...boring...I slept through them. Ok I'll admit it...I failed Physics my first time through...why you might ask...cause I didn't get it, the formulas made no sense to me, and at the time I didn't understand why. Later after talking to a councilor and 2 professors they sent to on and had me take the Trigonometry course, ya they advanced me before I passed the prerequisite. Later on they explained why they did this.Let me guess you want to know why...well here ya go. They decided that the reason I couldn't grasp the basics of physics was because I personally needed to know how the formulas were derived and why they worked. To be able to understand that I had to understand Trigonometry. After sleeping through the trig courses, yes I slept through them and got top marks...I found them boring and extreamly basic, I passed physics with flying colors.Ok what does all that have to do with this post...just my way of explaining that everyone has to take their own path to being able to learn, and not everyone is wired alike. Yes there are those that will always ask how to do the most basic of things over and over because they just don't want to learn, while there are those that after figuring out how to do something 300 times if they are shown the back door, everything will click for them and then they will pass on the knowledge that they just learned to someone else and time wasn't wasted on em.The whole point is that as we help those people we maintain proper manners and in so doing hope they will take the cue and maintain proper manners themselves.

I hate to admit this but in the last few months I've just got back into the design world and I'm sure if you asked someone like vujsa and a few others around here that have helped me out, they might say that I've asked some question and help that they might have found to be "simple" and could have been found on the first page of a google search.Now to explain this, on my part and possibly those like me out there, I have been very hard pressed for time and also I'd rather ask someone for help and get to know them in the process so that I can gradually work with them as I move along the path of learning I've embarked on.Asking a simple question usually leads to much more complicated and intricate questions and answers down the road. Now I know that this post was started about people that keep asking simple questions and never move beyond them but I just wanted to point out that there are some of us that start simple for 2 reasons.1) we don't want to jump to far in over our heads2) we want to start simple with someone and work up with them so that we can build a working vocabulary and terminology and overcome language barriers if they exist.

Well for those of us that use Firefox I have found an extension for it that does spell checking. Its called Spellbound and can be found HERE, while the dictionaries for it can be found HERE. Now I doubt it has a grammar checker, I have yet to find one, though with practice one shouldn't need the help with grammar. The spell check libraries are extensive, I would redefined suggest looking into this if you have the time and inclination to do so. Also, get a Websters Dictionary and if you aren't sure of a word, even if the spell checker says its correct or incorrect, then just look it up. Well, hope this helps everyone out.

Alright here is what I know about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Blu-Ray (BR) has the ability to be backwards compatible, should the device manufacturers wish it to be so. So that being said the BR drive of the PS3 will not be the reason that the PS3 wouldn't be backwards compatible. Now on the comparison of BR to HD-DVD. HD-DVD9 uses the standard red laser of the current DVD format but uses a higher compression Codec. This still only allows 4 gigs of data to be burned on a single layer DVD and 9 gigs on a dual layer. There is a second Blue Laser DVD format that was proposed by NEC and Toshiba that would allow current manufacturing lines to be used and thus allow cheaper manufacturing of a new format but it doesn't seem that it will make it. With the 4/9 gig limitation and the problems associated with high compression codecs I personally see the HD-DVD standard lasting to long due to the fact that it wouldn't allow HDTV and High Resolution movies to work to well on DVD's. As for the cost of the units and media, as stated before in another post or 2, as more of the tech hits the market and more movies come out in the BR format you can expect the cost to come down. well downloaded the driver cleaner program and totally cleaned out all the ATI stuff that has been loaded onto the computer since I got this card and all the Nvidia stuff from the previous card...downloaded an old set of ATI drivers Cat 5.10 since I've had nothing but problems with the Catalyst Control Center not wanting to run except on the Administrator account, and never being able to work around that problem and will see how things work now.Thanks for the help, and as far as the overheating thing goes, the card doesn't have a fan on it and a funky looking heatsink in the shape of the card manufacturers initials (MSI) so it could very well be the card overheating. Although I personally don't think it is since the lockups occure when I'm playing games, just surfing the net, or working in a word processor.The lockups happen at irregular intervals and are not application/task specific.Once again thanks for the help and will post in the next day or 2 in reguards to whether or not there are anymore lockup. So far I'm 2 hours without a problem.Logan

Ok I know windows update isn't really necessary but I am having the following problem, everytime I try to run Winupdate I get a failure to download/install updates. I've done the following to no avail: 1) made sure that all security settings are at default levels in Internet Options 2) cleared all cookies and files (including offline content as well) 3) made sure that the advanced tab was also returned to default levels 4) made sure that the automatic updates service was running in automatic 5) made sure that the background intelligence service was also running in automatic (here is where I get an error) 6) reregistered the following windows update components: WUAPI.DLL WUAUENG.DLL WUAUENG1.DLL ATL.DLL WUCLTUI.DLL WUPS.DLL WUPS2.DLL WUWEB.DLL Even after doing all of that I still can't seem to get windows update to work. I personally beleive that its because I can't get the Background Intelligence Transfer Service to start but I'm not sure. If anyone can help me figure out why it won't start I will be greatly appreciative. I made sure that the RPC service is running properly but even after shutting down the RPC and restarting it BIT still wont run. Thanks, Logan

Ok here is my problem. On a somewhat regular basis I get the following error listed on the BSOD:ati2dvag.dll stopped responding if this is the first time this has happened restart your computer, if not then contact the hardware manufacturer.Well I thought it might just be a driver error so I updated my ATI drivers to the latest but the problem still ensued. I then went to the web and found that others have had this problem and corrected it by changing the CPU to AGP controller to a PCI to PCI bridge, I did this but found that I had a major hit to my ingame video proformance.I was wondering if anyone around Xisto might now a better way to correct this problem or could explain to me what might be causing it. I have tried moving my PCI cards around and playing with my IRQ settings but to no avail. I am currently running "Omega" drivers for my Radeon 9250 card and that seems to help but I still get crashed everynow and then.Oh one more thing. It doesn't matter if I'm in game or just surfing the web I get the same error message. The system seems to freeze up no mouse movement then either the system recovers, I get the BSOD showing the ati2dvag.dll error, or I have to completely restart with no error showing and the screen is black and the amber light idicating no signal to monitor is on.Well thats it if you would like more info please let me know.MSI Radeon 9250 (running in 4x AGP slot)WinXP Home SP2

Ok did some research and here is what I found. While the Blu-Ray disk are totally different in design and manufacture from standard DVD, the players are capable of being backwards compatible should the product designers wish it to be so. The only real problem is that the Blu-Ray technology would require factories to be totally overhauled or new ones built to allow for their manufacture since it is so different from current DVD standards. Now the "Blue-Laser DVD" standard that has been proposed by NEC and Toshiba allows for the current factory lines to be used, to a point, thus lowering the manufacturing revamp costs but doesn't allow for the "massive" boost in storage that the Blu-Ray tech does. Also if this standard is adopted it allows for quicker roll-out of mass product since they don't have to develope an entirely new manufacturing infrastructure. As for the HD-DVD 9 only allows for 4.7 Gig to be stored on a single lay DVD also uses new High compression Codecs. Well like many have said it was just a matter of time before Intel, like most companies, did a "rebrand" to freshen up their company image. Also with the upcoming Intel based Apple computers it seems fitting that they would want a new, fresh logo and slogan for the new Mac boxes.As for the parodies...gotta love 'em, "Intel - Leap Ahead to AMD for a better chip." Also Firefox is more security oriented then IE, and it is faster too. If your on a dialup ISP you will definetly see a speed increase when using over IE, although if your on a Broadband connection you might not notice it unless you go to a graphic intensive site.Just on a side note, you might also notice when going to some of your favorite websites that Firefox will display the site slightly differently then IE. This is do to the differences in the way that IE and Firefox "render" webpages and graphics. While most people you as, including me, will say that do to the fact that Firefox is CSS compliant it will show the website true to the way the designer intended, you will find that many sites that were designed specifically for IE will be slightly messed up.I personally use Firefox exclusively, except when I run windows update.

having a user set pagefile is good, just remember to set it equal to your Physical RAM amount, but also remember that if your running over 1gig of ram not to have a gig of virtual memory. I do a lot of video editing on my system and have about 1.5 gigs of ram and have a 1 gig harddrive swap set. The problem with having over a gig of virtual memory is that Windows based PC's don't always utilize the page file properly and thus you actually start to see a system slow down. When that happens you should clear the swap file and start fresh. Having the system set to clear the page file at system shut down is a good thing when allowing the computer to manage its own Virtual memory size and usage or allowing it to have over 1 gig of page file.

It works this way to bolster profit postings to the stockmarket and to bypass some market regulations put in by the government.As for wireless service providers, cigular is currently the best one out there, for america, but depending on where you live, others might be better for coverage and whatnot. Although I must say that Verizon is startging to come back and have a good strong network as well, and they are really opening up the bandwidth for wireless internet through their cell system.

The reason Blu-Ray is launching is this. HDTV movies, current DVD standards cannot hold enough data for High Definition, thus the Blu-Ray technology. With the launching and production of Blu-Ray into the open market you will start seeing movies coming out that support 1080i and eventually the entire movie market will move that direction as HDTV becomes the standard media that the home theater market is pushing/using.With the added storage space per disc you could move your entire movie/pic/music collection off of your HDD and put it on a single/multiple blue ray disc(s) and clear up massive amounts of space. Also with the PS3 launching with the Blu-Ray drive in it you will start seeing massive RPG games on a single disc.

on the subject of walls and obstructions, make sure the router is located away from a main wall with wiring in them or old metal pipes...and make sure it is up as high as possible.

I have looked into A+ certification before but have found that for the most part its a worthless peice of paper. I personally find that I outperforme and have more knowledge then almost everyone I have gone up against that is "A+ certified."From what I understand from those that I have talked to about it, if you know anything about hardware and some customer service skills...then you should be able to pass pretty easy. There are prep courses available and books on that cover the test and can help you prep for it too.

I would say make sure that all 3 of your computers are running the DHCP client properly and not having an assigned IP. If any of the computers have an assigned IP then the DHCP of the router is being over ridden and this sounds like the most likely problem from what you have posted. If it isn't then you might want to check the DHCP settings on the wireless router and make sure that the available IPs are set to allow 3 individual computers to sign on, some routers that are given out by the ISPs are default set to only allow 2 computers to sign on, and sometimes you can override this setting and sometimes you can't. Since you didn't post any information about the router I can't come up with a good hypothesis on this subject.Hope this post helps you out.
