Thanks for all the great input. I will continue to stay around Asta Host no matter what happens I love it here I just don't seem to have the time to keep up the necessary postings for the hosting anymore. I hope to be able to get the paid hosting up soon...still a few weeks out till I have a paycheck to be able to pay for the hosting...just hope I can keep things running till then. Heck I might be able to have the migration to Mambo completed before I switch..who knows...lol.Once again thanks for the help and as always if I can help any of ya out just let me know.

Although I don't comment my HTML like I should, and must admit that I pay the price later on...lol. Anyone who is just starting out should comment their HTML and any scripting/programing they do. As stated by Vujsa and others this helps with revisions later on, ALSO it helps when giving a friend a copy to look over when you need help troubleshooting a page or whatever so that they can tell at a glance what you were trying to do in a certin section without haveing to pull out a 5 lb. 4 ring binder full of coding notes to track down some obscure and rarely used, by the troubleshooter, bit of code

Ok I was just wondering...do to a lack of time these days I've been a bit lax in my posting here. This is do to the fact that I am now working again and have a serious hit to my available internet time. Now the question I have is this...if I can find a way to afford to move over to Xisto - Web Hosting can my site be transfered over to their servers or will I need to rebuild it there?I will continue to be around here and keep posting and requesting help...and hopefully be able to help out others but I don't see being able to keep the site up via posts anymore...my time is very limited till the end of the year....

The Big Bang: Did It Really Happen?
Logan Deathbringer replied to webdesignunlimited's topic in Science and Technology
The Big Bang doesn't need a specific cause. From: This link Strictly speaking, you could say the creation of our universe is a total accident - in a beautiful way. As for the cyclones, hurricanes and tsunamis - these could all be explained with modern science. Cyclones and hurricanes are formed by low pressure systems in the atmosphere and tsunamis are caused by earthquakes offshore in the ocean. If there are any side effects of the Big Bang theory, that would indeed be the 'Big Crunch' as mentioned by scherzi. The energy generated by hurricanes and typhoons is nowhere close to the Big Bang *even if it did happen* -
Well I've played the original EverQuest, WoW and I'm currently involved with Guild Wars. I must say that I am quite biased on the Subject...lol...I run a Guild in Guild Wars...I prefer GW due to the following:NO monthly fee to play, better graphics (IMHO) and the game is constantly evolving and the people that make/maintain the game are constantly interacting with their gamers and making the world better. Heck they come in game and talk with us alot...I love guild wars and the rest can stand in line to never be played by me... but thats just me.
-
Well I must put in my .5 cents here...I find most of the games I've played online addicting...to of that list is an old school Blizzard game called Starcraft Broodwars, along with a few others I've played the most recent being Guild Wars.I personally find MySpace appalling, and stay away but I find that I have a "time managment problem" with the 'net in whole...I can't seem to find enough time to spend on it...lolWell thats my 1/2 cent on the subject...

ok haven't been able to find a way to reinstall the Helios templet without the ability to access the admin panel....arg this is so upsetting. Well looks like I'm gonna have to re-initiate the whole forum from the ground up. Unless of course someone else can help me come up with a way to reinstall a theme without using the admin panel....
-
the only problem with doing everything through the SMF admin panel is that I can't access the forum at all. Everytime I try to access the damn thing it tells me that it is having a problem parsing the Templet and stops loading. If I could get it to go back to the Default templet I could probably save everything but I'm not sure...gonna look at the Helios Templet and see if it is possible to install it without having to do it through the SMF admin panel. If I can do that I might be able to save the forum and me extensive work of having to bring the whole thing back up from the ground up. I'll post to let everyone know how things are progressing. After this problem is done I think I'll be gett'n Mambo up and running on the site. Vujsa I think I'll need your help with that...but in that case I'll be starting 1, if not more, new threads...lol
-
ok I replaced the files in the Sources directory and now I'm not getting a parsing error now it says that there is a problem with the templets...will try to reinstall the templet but not sure how to reset the forum to the default templet without having direct access to the admin panel. Vujsa once helped me through a problem like this once before but I can't remember how it was done...lol...and I forgot to put it down in my growing note book of badly written and hardly ledgible handwritting...lol.If anyone could help me with this new problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Suggest Free Php Host PHP HOsts
Logan Deathbringer replied to sujith's topic in Websites and Web Designing

Suggest Free Php Host PHP HOsts
Logan Deathbringer replied to sujith's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I definetly endorse Xisto and I love the Simple Machines Forum easy to work with and fun to play with. Also here on Xisto you not only get Great Technical Support but a very cool community with members who are always willing to help you learn and work through problems that can arise with your website. -
Evolution Or God... How were we created?
Logan Deathbringer replied to Nemisis's topic in Science and Technology
Hey no problem I like having a good discussion, if not a good old fashioned challanging debate. Now I have to STRONGLY disagree with you on this point. First off to make things clear here before people get the wrong idea about what I'm about to say...I live in the U.S.A and am VERY patriotic. My family has a strong and proud military service record, and if ever called upon by my country I would defend my fellow citizens up to my last breath. Although, that does not mean I totally agree with the decisions of our government. That asside I must say that from the day we are born, whether we are americans or from any other country, we are "indoctrinated" from day 1. The extent of it just depends on where your from, both the country and the area you grow up in. Indoctrination is just a part of life, just like religion and science. For the most part I have to agree with you here but at the same time I have to point out a few things. First off more people have been killed in the name of religion then for almost any other reason. Although one must also remember that its not religion itself that calls for murder and war, usually, its those that use religion to control others that do. Too true we do agree for the most part but on the subject of the photon...isn't it a partical thats travel patterin is that of a wave? -
ok will do then will post the results...one question before I do though. Should I just replace the Subs.php file or uninstall the whole forum and then reinstall it again? If I have to reinstall the whole thing I think I might try a different forums system not sure though will wait till I get a reply.

ATI has always been about gaming and high end graphics its just that back in the day there were 3 major GPU makers...3dFx, NVidia, and ATI. The 3DFX Voodoo Series basicly were the top of the line cards with NVidia second and ATI at the bottom of the pile. Then 3dFX started to faulter after their market shares started to fall when their Voodoo5 was way to expensive and NVidia made and was successful with a buy out bid. Now NVidia uses the SLi tech that they got with the 3Dfx buy out and use it to "dominate" the market...only thing is that the new XFire system used by ATI, though more expensive I'll admit, is much better cause it allows you to use any x800, x850 card with the XFire to get dual card performance, while the SLi cards by NVidia have to be "perfectly matched" cards. So IMHO the ATI cards are better.

thats the error I get when people try to access the forums I run on my website. I've been through the code but can't figure out exactly whats wrong. I'm still quite new to PHP and still have a very limited understanding of it. All I can say for certin is that up untill around 2 p.m. PST the forums were working then around that time they seem to have stopped and started outputing that error message. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

hope that works for you cause it was what I was going to suggest myself, but I've been busy so I wasn't able to post till now. That file looks like it should be all you need so good luck with it. If it doesn't work please post again and someone should be ablt to help you out some more.Once again good luck and please let us know how everything works out.

Microsoft Wants To Kill Google!
Logan Deathbringer replied to troyilicious82's topic in Search Engines
This so called "war" between MS and Google isn't one of 2 competing companies but of CEO's. Now lets reevaluate something here Microsoft and Google are in 2 areas of the computer business. Yes MS has MSN, but that is more of a portal for MS customers then a true competetor to Google. As for Google being a better product then MSN Search and as such it will come out on top because its better....um...anyone remember Netscape before it went under and was bought out by AOL? Obviously some of you have forgotten that it was the better, much better, browser and following the better comes out on top line of reasoning it should have won the browser war but it didn't MS did and as such we were stuck with IE for the most part for the longest time.No just because it is the best software/product does not guarentee Google a pedastal in the anals of history. MS has a habit of crushing anyone they feel is a treat or just don't like. Google is big enough that I think they can weather this storm if they play is safe yet stay aggressive, so I say "Go get em Google" let the party begin. -
Microsoft Wants To Kill Google!
Logan Deathbringer replied to troyilicious82's topic in Search Engines
I'm personally gonna stay on the fence for this slugfest. With 2 companies of this size, with this much muscle...its going to be a definet fun to watch. Although MS has the track record Google has the public backing I'd say.Yes I will definetly be watching this one. -
hmmm...I'll see if I can find an answer to your delima but I'd love to know how you managed to do this. I will try to have an answer to you in a day or 2 unless someone else gets you an answer before I can. I don't promise that I can but I will try.

Firewalls Anti-virus, Anti-Spyvware and firewalls
Logan Deathbringer replied to jonassen-tjader's topic in Software
if you want a totally customizable, yet secure outta the box, firewall that can grow with your needs and you can play with and learn about security with; I would suggest Agnitum Outpost Firewall. I not only lets you close ports and lets you know when unautorized access happens, but it also shows you what programs are making connections to the internet and what ports they are using as well as how much bandwidth each program is using. Its powerful, easy to use, and although it has a decent learning curve to be able to use all its features it can be set up and forgotten about for the most part. -
As stated by vizskywalker popularity of a program, or in IE and MS programs in general, the forced use of software will cause the security flaws to be made very public and very easy to use to those that want to use them. The fact that FireFox has fewer security flaws is a testament to the OpenSource nature of the project and the comunity formed around it. Also the fact that MS IE has so many patches and fixes is a testament to the fact that so many people use it, and so many others want to exploit the unknowing/uneducated that use it, only goes to prove that no matter how you look at it eventually anyone that wants to cause mischief, steal, or harm someone else will find a way to do it.Yes the programers/companies that put out software could do a better job of coding (cutting out bloat) and security, but also stated by vizskywalker no matter how "secure" you make something someone will find a flaw and exploit it, not to mention the fact that the minute you put a human infront of a terminal there is your biggest security flaw to start with. There are 2 major security holes in any system: 1 is the computer opperator that has any sort of access, and 2 is if it is connected to any sort of network. Yes the software being run can cause problems but the human part of any equation is the biggest hole in security.

I personally don't have the ATI 9550 128MB card but I run the 9250, if I had had the extra $30 when I bought it I would have gone for the 9550, but as for video cards I would definetly suggest the Radeon Series by ATI they, IMHO, are better then the Nvidia GeForce Series.

First off...sounds like a pretty good tutorial...I can hardly wait to try it with SuSE, which is the flavor I'm gonna focus on since a job I'm trying to get requires me having knowledge of it.The main question I have is...what is the benifits of having reiser4...I haven't heard of it till now...will have to look into it but real busy so I'll just ask about it and hope someone takes pitty on a busy me and explains it to me....

Which Laptop Processor Is Better? in laptops
Logan Deathbringer replied to rapco's topic in Software
My opinion on this: AMDI have sworn by AMD ever since the Thunderbird series and will probably be a diehard AMD advocate for the rest of my life. As for the Heat issue...that hasn't been a major problem with AMD processors for awhile....old news....
