  1. Awsome thanks for the info, I just started using VirtualBox and that little menu at the bottom was annoying. I'm happy to know it can be moved to a more convienant location.
  2. Seeing as how the tech behind SSD is quite similar to thumb drives I have to say that I have a 1 gig thumb drive that I have had for MANY years and have used it a lot. I've transfered info to and from it more times then I can count, and then used it as the swap file when I got my first XP machine, and now I use it for my aging laptop with Win7 on it as a system boost drive. It's lasted for years with no failure, however I've had othe drives that quit working 6 months after I get them. In the end, as with old platter drives, it comes down to luck of the draw and manufacturers quality assurance. Given time, if there are problems with the tech, it will get worked out and they will get more reliable. As for the drives being reliable and trust worthy, there are companies that use SSD tech as their main drive system. As an example CCP, the company that makes and manages the EVE Online MMORPG game uses SSD server drives in the server cluster for their game. I seriously doubt that they would rely on the tech for their server clusters if it wasn't reliable and had low failure rates.
  3. I would never deny that the iPhone series was ground breaking and started the mainstream smart phone run. However I will say that for the price you can get an Android based phone that does more, with less propriatery software restrictions, for less money. By doing so you save money, get a phone that will do just as much, if not more, and if you spend the same amount of money you can get a phone that just is amazing. As usual this is just my opinion.
  4. I was comparing via price point, you can't get a i7 for anywhere near the same price. Also, the gentleman I built the system for put it up against his friend intel i7 based system (which cost almost 2.5x as much to build) and it kept up with it in gaming and video/audio editing. I didn't build the i7 system but I'm happy with what the AMD did, and it wasn't even overclocked. I remember having a similar debate when the Barton core AMD's were on the market.
  5. Well I hate to disagree with you yet again, but... If you compare price and performance of AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor and Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor i'm sure you will see that price wise this this the closest you can get for AMD vs. Intel. Yes the Intel offering has a higher clock rating and a lower power usage rating, however the AMD offering is Unlocked, and twice as many cores. If you go to the closest Intel equivialnt the price is almost twice that of the AMD and the performance is still a bit less than the AMD offering.
  6. It was pressure from the U.S., of that I have no doubt. There has been more file share/bit torrent take downs due to pressure from U.S. interests then pretty much any other reason. MPAA and RIAA have been given to much power and allowed to have to much influence on the whole situation. Granted I understand that there is money to be made and lost due to the copy right infringement however I seriously doubt anyone has been honest about the numbers when it comes to how much was being lost and why.
  7. Why do you doubt it? I see no reason that AMD can't come back and have processors that out perform Intel again. I'm not refering to AMD having a larger market share than Intel, just processors that out perform Intels. They did it before and I have no doubt that they can do it again.
  8. Give them time, it's always been like that. Intel and AMD switch back and forth. Heck I just helped a client with a new computer and he ended up with an AMD system, and I wish I could have had it for myself...lol. It has 6 cores and a top end ATI video card, the thing smokes through anything. Just give AMD a bit of time and they'll be smoking Intel again.
  9. While there are lots of other sites besides Megaupload, one of the main reasons Kim Dotcom got arrested and his "Mega" companies got taken down is the fact that there was "supposedly" proof that he and his associates have sent internal communications idicating that they were using their companies to circumvent copyright laws. Other file share sites do the same thing or allow the same thing, however they haven't been able to be proven to "knowingly" profit from doing so.Personally I used to use Rapidshare or "X-drive", however since the Mega take down I no longe use a public fileshare service.
  10. I've used both Intel and AMD chips since the first 386 based desktop I had, it was AMD. Since then I've used both AMD and Intel, and have suggested both to clients I've had over the years based on what they were planning on using their computer(s) for and their price range. I personally go with AMD when building computers for my personal use, I just find that I get more "bang" for my buck with them. Yes they run hotter, however, from my personal experience, they just perform better and last longer.
  11. The reason you see so many people cue up for new Apple products is that most of them are "fanboys". They have to have the latest and greatest from their favorite technology company and are willing to make fools of themselves to get it. Its a status symbol, and in my opinion, there are androids that are cheaper and androids that are better, however since it has the Apple name on it they jump and run for it.
  12. I personally believe that to think that the only sentient life in the vast universe we live in is human and located only on Earth is to be conceited and vain to the extreme. While there has been no "government accepted/mainstream science accepted" proof that the earth and its inhabitants have been visited by extra-terrestrial life, there also isn't any proof that we haven't and that there isn't life on other planets. There are many arguments for and against the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligence, however if you really sit down and think about it the odds actually sit in the favor of there being "aliens". In my opinion to base the anti-alien argument on religion is the epitome of closed mindedness. After all, it was the fault of the organized dominant religion of the "dark ages" that created the "dark ages" as well as the Spanish Inquisition. While we currently cannot travel to planets in our own solar system, let alone other solar systems, we have no physical proof for or against extra-terrestrial life. Also, just because we haven’t had any public contact with extra-terrestrial intelligence that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. If there is intelligent life out beyond our little planet, and they are capable of traveling between solar systems and galaxies, then think of how we look to them, if they even notice us. To another intelligent, and sentiant life form…we could look like nothing more than ants. We may not have the technology to communicate with them, let alone travel to or with them. As such they probably ignore us just like we ignore ants unless they bother us.Until we actually run into them, or explore the entire universe, this discussion and debate will continue. I believe, and will always believe there is intelligent life out there in space somewhere. This little ball of dirt we live on can’t be the only place in this vast and ever expanding universe where life evolved.
  13. I hate to post about this but I've been posting for awhile since I've been back and registered with the xisto helpdesk and I haven't seen any "myCENTs" show up yet. I love it here and would like to get my hosting back so I can start rolling out test sites and get back to work, then get paid hosting through the paid side.
  14. To a point I think it might. I'm over cautious with my network security and always double check the locks of my house. However you have to understand that my house has been broken into twice this year and if I haddn't had all my data stored on a NAS thats hidden away and only accessible wirelessly I would have lost all my personal and work related data. I lost 2 laptops and my new desktop and all the periphrials. I don't think everyone is out to get me but damn it, I've become a lot more cautious as of late.Oh and yes I am ADD, Dyslexic, and OCD...
  15. The cloud follow up, wet wear. Direct synaps access to data and the display fed directly to you optic nerves. Man I wish I could live long enough to see that.
  16. It would be interesting if it did happen, though I don't think it would. Apple is just to strick and stuck up to truely make products for the masses rather than their cultish fanboy followers.
  17. Yes, I've noticed it as well. I'm pretty sure that OpaQue or one of the higherups will correct this soon.
  18. I think the main problem Google+ has is that its such a late comer to the social media site scene. You have MySpace and Facebook out there, and they have been the dominante forces on the market for so long and people have gotten so used to using them that a new comer to the scene either has to have the ability to slowly take over the scene as and insergent or blast onto the market and take over with a huge marketing campaign.Personally I beleive that google+ may not go away, but I don't see it being a major threat to Facebook anytime soon, heck MySpace is still out there but it is even falling off in popularity as Facebook keeps growing.

I think I'm going to have to have a couple of friends look at the results and tell me if they agree with them.
  20. More recently their "Droid" line of Android based phones have also been popular. I remember when the Android OS first came out as a mainstream phone OS line and Motorola launched its first Droid phone, they were popular even though there were lots of complaints about battery life. There is a huge future for the Motorola Mobility company, and I hope that Google and make it a reality.
  21. I agree, there is a huge future in cloud based apps. However I'm not sure that I'm completely onboard with the whole idea. After all I'm and old school computer geek, and I like having my own copy of the software I'm using on storage media and everything I'm doing on my local computer. Having to access and run my productivity software from a web server somewhere kinda rubs me the wrong way. I know its the future, I know I'm going to eventually have to get used to it, but I see lots of security issues that will have to be addressed and are being addressed. The good thing for something like this is the possibility of the apps being able to be used on a charge by use basis for people that don't need or can't afford to purchase it as a program for home use. It also will allow for use on tablets and such as they won't have to have huge data storage needs as they can use them as a web based app.
  22. At one point there was supposed to be a way to kill the Metro interface and go to a "good old" Windows desktop interface. I hope they add that back into the Retail Version when it comes out. The whole problem I see with Win8 is that its based on, and specifically designed for, Touch interfacing by the user. Granted more and more people are using tablets and Microsoft is seriously wanting a part of that market, and there are more Tcouch screen computes coming on the market for desktop use, but I don't see Touch Screen tech being a major player in the home/desktop market with in the next 3-5 years. As such I see the use of the Metro interface a major problem.Granted the Metro interface is ingenious and I personally found it fun to use when I first saw it on a phone, but if I had to use it on a daily basis on my main computer...I hate to say it but I think I would find it annoying. I had a friend who had a windows based phone with the metro interface take his phone back after 2 weeks of constant use because he decided he couldn't stand it, and switched back to an Android based phone.
  23. I think Microsoft is trying out new ideas and tech to see what people like and need. I also think that they are getting ready to push towards rolling out their internet based apps to replace their Office suite and Windows OS. I remember awhile back a rumor that Microsoft was getting ready to offer their Office suite as a internet app suite and this could be their first real push towards that, or a revisioned version of that same idea. There is a huge potiental for success, and failure, for microsoft with this new service.
  24. The reason for some of the layoffs is that Motorola Mobility, while producing some nice products, has been a bit of a losing company recently. To curtail this they are laying off, reducing internal and external costs, and stream lining. This will hopefully allow the company to survive long enough to become a profitalble addition to the google family and help with googles plans of manufacturing their own mobility products in company.I wouldn't be surprised to see the end of the Motorola Mobility nameplate in the next couple of years and see it be rebranded under a name that fits the Google brand better. However the VP layoffs are no surprise honestly, if you look at any company buyout/take over/merger you see high up employees getting the axe, especially those that the new parent company believes led to the demise of the new child company to the point that the merger/buyout/takeover was possible.
  25. From the links I see a set of phones that need to be sold in the USA, they look cool and also look to be high performers. However I think they will probably not be sold anywhere but china do to the lawsuites you mentioned. With Apple sueing Samsung, their biggest hardware competition, and winning (currently), I see a possibility of a bleak future for phone and tablets. At least in the near future.
