  1. I've never heard someone pronounce it 'care', I've heard charr and car alot, but I usually say charr since the actual letters would be prnounced like that regardless of what they sound like when in the full form. If it was indeed an acronym or something I would think more about it, but since it's jsut a masacred version of a word, it isn't actually that word anymore so I pronounce it how it reads, charr (plus, any word that is easily translated into pirate-ese is awesome, chARRRRRRR!...haha..ha,..ha?)
  2. While they aren't thought of a lot in this context, pretty much a large majority of sports type games get better with each incarnation. There are the odd ones that get screwed up but otherwise they get better as they go. The first one that comes to mind is always the need for speed series, especially since the first underground game they've gotten better at shocking rates.I also agree on the FF's and MGS games. They both have some great improvements throughout the series which is always great. The Unreal Tournament line of games also sees great improvements so those sequels would, in my opinion, beat the orignal.Hmm, what else... System shock 2 bested system shock 1 (both classics)... I know there are others but unfortunately the sequels that are better then the original don't seem to come close to how many sequels suck in comparison. The first to come to mind in that area is always chrono chross Sequels should be illegal unless the game makers do it RIGHT.
  3. The games within games that I always love is when they build arcade machines in the game world that are often an old game from the company or a classic game. Examples of this are the weird ones at the first of Doom 3 or the various card game machines throughout Prey. They aren't really worth playing usually for much time but I love seeing them in games nonetheless. The only ones I have actually taken the time to play much, as you guys have mentioned, are the card games in the FF series.
  4. I just feel a need to point out how ironic it would be for this topic to be deleted and everyone to lose the credits *1.5 for it haha..ha...hrm. Maybe I just like irony too much. But yea at first I felt bad deleting topics with replies but now I just make sure to let people know (the good members who get caught in the middle, as you say, at least) why they lost points and how to avoid it in the future.
  5. mitchell hit it on the head from my point of view, I automatically thought of how it was scientifically "proven" that the world was flat and the universe revolved around the earth. I won't deny that most/all religions have contradictions within them but the only reason they are contradictions and not "updated facts" is because of religions basis on faith and not "scientific fact" which, as pointed out, isn't necessarily fact but simply what is perceived as fact.I'm a Christian and also one of the first people to usually point out your side of the argument. Christianity IS full of contradicitons (I wouldn't comment on the others since I don't know enough about them to be fair) but at the same time that just means (in my opionion) you must study as you see fit and come to your own conclusions. Christianity is based off human interpretation of Gods will for us, so obviously there is room for error especially after the Bible has been re-translated so many times. Frankly, religion and science are both basically "use the best information we have".
  6. Welcome to the forums Levis. Enjoy your stay, abide by the rules, and make sure to stay for a long time. I look forward to seeing you around the boards.
  7. So I've been playing a bit of NFS Carbon the last two days and I must say, I'm impressed. I was worried at first that it wouldn't amount to much more then a slight upgrade to Most Wanted but I ended up being very happily surprised. Not only are the graphics better, but alot better. At first glance it might not seem like a large improvements but close examination of the cars, effects, environements, everything makes you realize they did a great job upgrading the visuals. I have it for the 360 and it truly takes advantage of the systems power. It captures the feel of moving like a bat out of hell and doesn't let up.The first big change you notice when you get into the game is the choice between muscle, exotic, or tuner cars. I love this aspect since the muscle cars actually feel different for a change, they are about raw power instead of precision. Sure this might not be everyones cup of tea but thats why you get the choice I love the variation and its a great addition. Another aspect I enjoy is that the controls (at least on the 360) seem to require alot more attention to actually race properly. Due to the significant differences between car types AND overall changes to the controls makes the cars feel more realistic and therefor more challenging to drive properly. Its not harder to play the game, just requires more attention to look good doing it :)Next up, drifting. Its back with a vengeance baby and again requires you to actually know whats going on. As well the random races when driving around the city are something I missed from underground 2. Carbon is feeling like a great combination of new things I love and old things I loved without the things I disliked about older NFS games. The "crew" territory takeover aspect has been done before in other games but always adds a little depth to the game. Nothing major but adds something else to be interested in.The addition of wingmen is also very interesting. Having another car working WITH you in some races is quite a different feeling when firing down the tracks, again its not necessarily a breathtakingly amazing change but is welcome nonetheless.A final addition I truly love is that you can choose variations of the upgrades you purchase. You can choose tires to favor in braking, whether your NOS is about duration or intensity, etc. Being able to tweak your ride more without getting into micromanaging insane simulation type detail is a great balance. All in all carbon is a great addition to the NFS franchise. I'm sure there will be things some people dislike but I've loved the last few NFS games and it seems like they aren't going to disappoint anytime soon. GET THIS GAME NOW!
  8. Haha yea, luckily that trend is behind us to some extent
  9. Agreed that it feels smoother and snappier, whether its actually using more resources or not doesn't bother me since it FEELS as good or better thus far. As well, I'm loving the default skin which is very unusual as usually its the first thing I want to change. The spell checker is a nice touch as well. Just waiting for extensions to flood through the gates heh.
  10. Yea you can still view closed topics, just can't reply (as you would expect). I agree too, it's always fun seeing how annoying or stupid people were (excluding the times they are simply closed to end the discussion for legitimate reasons)
  11. Well if we added staff to every title you'd still be curious as to the contents probably, so it's unlikely to solve that issue
  12. Really good work indeed, they are all quite nice. I, however, agree with your friends that I prefer the ealrier ones to the latter. Probably that is soelly due to the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the futuristic look for cars so when they are TOO sleek looking I lose a bit of liking for them. Regardless they all are very well done so keep us up to date, whatever you choose as a final version for them will be awesome I'm sure.
  13. Mark has my support on this topic...which means absolutely nothing except I wont delete it haha... just because I saw (and deleted) the posst(s) that spawned this and his reaction is about accurate hehe.
  14. Haha yea I remember the first news about P:Offset hit the net right around when alot of top end FPS' were bragging about their graphics, this this tiny like.. under 10 person team (I think) release these demo's of their new engine that puts everything else to shame. I enjoyed it immensly hehe. Good times. But yea I assume my computer couldn't even consider running something of that level but it probably wont be out until when I will need a new computer anyways so... who knows
  15. Of course everything is on the market, why do you think these people create these sites? Sure often its thinking that they have a cool idea, but usually they're also thinking "I bet I could make a few bucks off this..." and then when someone offers then enough money to live off of without working for the rest of their life? no wonder they all sell quickly...Oh, and I prefer 'Gootube' as a new name personally
  16. They probably knew this was on the horizon so why bother spreading their own google video to their various google branches heh.
  17. People keep forgetting a huge difference between google and microsoft. Microsoft became the most popular in many areas because it was the ONLY option for those areas for a long time (or at least the only viable solution in those areas.) Google on the other hand became the most popular search on its own merits, released the best online email on its own merits, and is now aquiring various companies that each made their own names. A conglomeration of the best of the best seems like a good idea to me. If there is going to be a monopoly, might as well be one we benefit from.
  18. Yea google ads are the only ones I can stand frankly, and the more google ads out there the less invasive horrid flashy annoyingh ads are roaming the net. Until google starts slipping up I'll back them, I know it just seems like they'll go the microsoft route but if they keep making profits and flourishing without pulling any punches and being "evil" as they say, I have no problem with them spreading out even furthur. Integration of the various services the web offers is where its at and google seem like the most likely source for such integration. Other companies try but google succeeds
  19. The question now, however, is how long google video will last since (yesterday I think) google bought out youtube for quite a handy sum of cash. Google video will likely be around for awhile but I assume the purchase was done with the intention of replacing google vid with youtube at some point in the near future.
  20. I think this is not unexpected at all... I mean, it's google, they buy things, thats what they do haha. Sure they have google video but why compete with youtube when you can just buy it? Its easier to absorb these competitors then to actually create a competetor that is better. Well, not better tech wise but better popularity wise. As google buys up these individual companies that dominate there own respective areas they immediately have market control for that type of site. It makes a good business sense seeing as google apparently wants to be the best at everything so they can integrate everything you do online into one massive googlenet.
  21. Haha yea I remember the chessboard part every time I think of that game for some reason lol. But yea the music was intense, I loved it. Thats what I mean, they COMPLETELY revisioned the entire world of alice, not just taking the original and making it grittier. Great stuff indeed.
  22. No post count in this thread I assume that is the issue...Regardless congrats although I've never seen the excitement in getting high post counts places lol
  23. I do indeed remember Alice. Man that game was awesome! I can't remember everything about it but I loved it immensely. The sheer concept and darkness of it was awesome especially for the time it came out. It just took such an innocent concept and completely raped it making it into this dark, creepy, intensely gothic realm. Not only that but the game itself actually played really well. The graphics were decent and the mechanics were tight. I like the puzzle solving and combat elements and the storyline tied in nicely.I wish they made more games like this that took a very unique look at something fairly familiar. Sure other art forms can do this too (when they remake a movie in a new light for example) but games have such an immersion factor it bumps it up a notch. Hopefully they release something along this vein again soon.
  24. It takes a variable amount of time based on whenever the admins show up and have the time to review the account requests. Usually they get done in huge batches so checking for an "average" time won't really work. Basically just wait for it and it'll be worth it.Oh, and your credits drop to 3 not 5
  25. Another thing to note is if there is anything like a volume control along the headsets cord that there may be a mic on/off switch or mic mute button. I know I've had a few headsets all with volume controls on the cord and all had controls such as this. You bascially need to follow the path the sound takes to get from your mic to the computer and ensure it's on at each step. I don't know why they seem to hate the idea of having a mic actually take input so much but they do heh.
