I agree with what's been stated mostly. Black/green can look good but often doesn't I'd suggest making a mockup of your site and then testing out various color combos and think about which you enjoy the most. Not which necessarily fits your original vision the best or which you think looks "coolest" but which lends itself well to being a comfortable, relaxing web visit.

Should We Totally Dispense With Seo In Favor Of PR ?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to iGuest's topic in Search Engines
I've never been involved enough with this to have a preferance. While I have made many websites most are either for other people or simple personal sites that I really never tried to publicize. That having been said the "PR" method seems much more intuitive to me. The whole point of a search engine is to find the most relevant results and who is best to say whats relevant... the other people who use the internet. Seems like a good choice for where to go from SEO.Also, just as a side note... you should never get too attached to anything in the technological world. It's known for how high paced and quick changing it is so becomming overly tied to any one aspect of technology is asking to have some seperation anxiety. -
Review My New Wallpaper
Jeigh1405241495 replied to randomdood's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Yea I'm liking the effects but at the same time it's way too colorful. I would never use it as my wallpaper honestly. Its got potential and the techniques are cool but it's just a little too "in your face". Try toneing it down and reposting it for us to see. -
You can somehow put steam into an offline mode but I have no clue how... I know I played steam games on my comp when I was at home where I didn't have net access on my own comp only the other comp... so it must be possible. I'd suggest checking their support pages to find out what the deal with offline mode is.

yeh, if you are interested in finding out about distro's for possible installation later, I'd suggest checking around in the linux forums here. There are nuermous topics already hitting on which are best for people new to linux, which have the best support, which are the easiest, which are the most configurable, etc. Basically when picking a distro their are a plethora of options to consider so it's good to take some time and read up so that your first experience is as best as it can be

Oh they should, but it's steam, so who knows haha. (Again, I'm just bitter about how horrid steam was originally when it first came out, don't mind me). I've actually never heard of someone having trouble getting a valve product installed so it's interesting. I've heard of issues getting HL2 running once installed for a couple reasons, but nothing else really.
-
Hm, no clue although I'll blame Steam for now because I hate that software and think it is the problem for all in this world... Ok not really BUT it's still a pain in the *bottom* at numerous times.Have you tried a simple google for this problem? Just seems like something that, if it's common at all, it will be well documented as HL/CS fanboys are pretty intense people when it comes to making their games run properly :|Another thing you may have tried but didn't mention was reinstalling it? Scanning a cd probably wouldn't find the missing dll since it's likely compressed into some package with numerous other files. Uninstalling and reinstalling may fix whatever error caused the problem in the first place. Also it could help since if the anthology works like HL2 does then steam needs to "unlock" files when you run it the first tme, and if this crapped out mid run who knows what kinds of issues it could have caused haha. So yes, google and reinstall are my reccomendations. Good luck.

Nah I assumed that's what you meant, I just didn't want someone new to the baords skimming quickly over the posts and thinking there is a literal connection, as if to say the more hits your site gets the faster your credits go down or vice versa.

Well as far as you would notice probably the only differences would be cosmetic. While some of the more advanced features are either handled differently or non-existent in one or the other (I don't have any examples of this off the top of my head...) all the basics are there in both. Open Office might hide some menu items in different locations, but otherwise it can do most of the things Office can and if you just use it for basic things then it would easily be able to do them all.As far as cross compatibility, I've opened documents between the two before and other then a few of my more complex formatting choices being slightly skewed they were the same in either program.Frankly I can't imagine you having any issues since you just use it for the basics. If cross compatibility is a huge issue you could always try saving in Open Office as a format that is standard cross platform and furthur reduce chances of confusion between programs.

Invisible Malware The blue pill
Jeigh1405241495 replied to pyost's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Pyost, you have a link for where this info came from? Not that I don't trust you, just kind of curious as to the details about this. -
Heh, well unless you post more often with problems/issues BECAUSE OF having more site visitors, then credit performance is equal across the board. There may be indirect connections but no direct connections. As far as credits go I hover between 200-210 lately. I've never really had to post to try to raise it just when I became more active on the forums it jumped alot over a short period and now I post enough to keep it leveled off or increasing slowly. Even when I first got hosted though I usually tried to keep around a months worth simply because I'm somewhat flakely on which websites I frequent so who knew when I would randomly forget to visit asta for a couple weeks (although now that I'm MODified I guess I have a more concrete reason to remember not to stay away too long heh).

I'm sure there are better but I've always used winamp without any problems. Various file types (audio/video) as well as smooth light interface (if you don't choose a retarded skin).VLC is awesome for video but I've never tried it with audio. But yea if your only problem with winamp is bloat just use it with the classic skin or another lightweight skin and it should be fine, turn off the extra portions and just leave the main player and playlist sections open and you have a tiny little responsive player at your disposal.Oh and 1800 mp3's? Pfft, lightweights

First, welcome to the world of linux.Second of all you can only technically "dual boot" if you INSTALL linux. Let me explain...When you install linux it is actually on your system obviously. It has its own filespace on your hard drive and then you install a piece of software that is triggered upon starting your computer (a boot loader) which lets you choose an operating system to actually use for this session. Either by dual booting or using a live cd, windows remains intact on your system, but dual booting involves having both installed The advantage of having Linux actually installed is that it is much quicker and more responsive, lets you more easily save data to the hard drive (as you have designated space to store data instead of drives that are hopefully a compatible file type) and easier to keep updated.Next are live cds, these basically, as you probably picked up, run straight off the cd. They don't actually install files onto the hard drive so you can use much of the functionality of linux without over writing anything on your HD. Now this is good for testing purposes and other maintenance thing or trying out new distros, but if you plan to use this OS as a primary system OS then you should get a dual boot setup ready. Many live cds now come with most applications you would want for basic tasks but eventually you'll want to try new apps and this is where having an installed linux OS comes in handy. Live cds are pretty amazing stuff, especially the most recent batches, but for long term I'd go with partitioning your HD and installing linux alongside windows.

Solar System To Have 12 Planets
Jeigh1405241495 replied to xboxrulz1405241485's topic in Science and Technology
With 2003 UB 313 it's like they just gave up... haha. But I dunno, I like the Stephen Colbert response to this, adding new planets takes away from Earth's special planetness haha. But on a more serious note I think they SHOULD define what a planet is but that definitions shouldn't let things like comets become labeled as planets. But that's not for me to decide so I guess it's better then nothing either way. -
Yea I'm seeing the graininess too... but personally I kind of like the pulsing between colors idea BUT not on such a wide spectrum. Using the whole rainbow kind of makes it too busy and I think it would make the buttons stand out too much (and clash with the color template of a website.) I might reccomend making buttons that have the same effect but only shift between the other colors used on the target website, thus have a similar look/feel without being so intense. This might also drop the filesize somewhat since you'd have less frames per animation loop. Also you need to consider how having that much motion on the screen at all times will look. Forum buttons are repeated often so having constant motion on the screen could disorient or bother some users.

Wow man... I'm really sorry to hear that. I know it's been said but I'll reiterate anyways, don't worry about the site. The fact that you cared at all to inform of us the reason for your absence speaks volumes and you need not spend any time focusing on the site when there are much more important things for you to focus your thoughts on. Again, really sorry to hear about all this.

Best Messenger what is the best im messanger in your idea ?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to m107's topic in Software
Personally every version of trillian that I have tried I hated. I didn't like the design (even skinned), didn't like the weird choices of which functionality did/didn't work, etc. I mean it did the basics fine (connecting to various messenger systems and allowing you to message people on them all) but otherwise it seemed lacking and annoying. I just didn't feel comfortable enough to start using it over the primary clients. -
Happy Birthday Pc born on 12th., Aug., 1981
Jeigh1405241495 replied to XIII's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Then how about we just say it's the 25th birthday of what was, at that time, called the PC, but has since been dilluted like most other terminology People are too picky -
Free Photo Storage Sites. The good bad?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to pomjim's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I know I've used imageshack with decent results. A couple cool features like built in thumbnailing for forums and whatnot. As mentioned free and quality so basically its as good as you can ask for I guess. I think it has a few file type limitations and thats the only reason I ever used a different one once when I wanted to store pics of a different type and didn't feel like converting them all to one of the more standard image types. Regardless imageshack is my preferred choice during the rare occurance that I need an image host. -
I've been too busy to play much but every time I see anything even mention Oblivion I want to jump back in, but then I start debating whether I should pick up where I left off or start a new charcter... then I start thinking about how much time it'll take either way and end up not playing haha. Stupid "having a life". Anyways I think people who have complaints about this game are basically being picky since they are comparing it to what they wish it would be and not comparing it to games as a whole. Frankly 90% of games over the last few years have not been of a very high quality if you look closely at them (and by few years, I mean more then a few). Comparatively to other games this is insanely addictive, fun, and impressive. Sure there are bugs, but most if not all games have bugs, even when they are a 100th of the size.So yes, in case my fanboyesque rant turned you off, this is the only important part... if you STILL haven't tried oblivion do so at once. That is all.

Hello and welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay. Oh and as long as the music is your own works (meaning no copyrighted songs and whatnot) then I don't see a reason you can't throw up a link to some of it.

This website appears to be in violation of the British Disability Discrimination Act No clue how but really don't are. Also I think the site is a bit messed up rating wise since it said mine is "extremely popular" (which its not) and my ratings were all too high hahaMarketing 6.3Design 9.8Accessibility 6.1Experience 9.5Overall Summary score for this website. 7.2I mean... design ok lol, I'll let that go, but I have NO marketing, and NO accessibility. I have done nothing on either front yet the ratings aren't too horrible. I dunno I mean completely ignoring 50% of their grading criteria should drop me lower then a 7.2 lol. Either way it IS an interesting site with alot going for it, its a nice way to have things broken down for you to realize where the strengths/weaknesses of your site lie. Worth checking out.

Jeigh1405241495 replied to XIII's topic in Websites and Web Designing
/me bakes his computer a birthday cakeIt's pretty cool if you think about it, it seems like PC's have been around longer then 25 years, and at the same time its impressive that they've only been around for 25 yeasr. In a quarter of a century we've made virtually all the progress that we have in computers. From being a blip on the scientific radar to engulfing the masses in the personal, industrial and scientific realms (among others) in such a short time is impressive. Plus it gave anti-social people a chance to shine (not that anyone here could be considered anti-social )Anyways, happy birthday computers. May ye have many more (since if you don't my profession choice is screwed) -
Giniu Reactivation ... or reintroduction? :)
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Giniu's topic in Introductions
I too welcome you to the boards and I too never knew who you were back then, but we probably only over lapped for a few months so not surprising. I wasn't nearly as active back in the day. Regardless, welcome back and enjoy your stay.
