Poll: Which Is The Best Os Pick The Best OS
nightfox1405241487 replied to Hardy Boy's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Actually, I found an article that MS is not the only one to blame for the viruses & spyware existing in windows... it's really the dumb users that are running it. It's a "click-happy" environment were everyone runs as administrator and so programs can get full access to the computer. Now if everyone ran something like Ubuntu, I think the OS world would be much safer! [N]F -
That's cool. Normally I lock my workstation with Windows Key+L as it is usually faster. But, what the heck! I added it to my desktop! Anyways, if you wanted something better than the red X icon, SHELL32.dll in the system32 folder has a padlock icon and the logout icon which would work. But it is a personal preference! [N]F

Connecting 2 Wireless Routers
nightfox1405241487 replied to Mr.GreenHat's topic in Computer Networks
I know this topic is a little old, but just some information to add: The second router MUST also have the DHCP server on it disabled or else you will have IP addressing problems on your network and nothing will work out correctly. [N]F -
Firefox 2, Beta 2
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
IE7 sucks just as much as IE6. IE is just a sucky web browser... Anyways, update to RC3 since it was just released not to long ago! RC3 has fixed bugs and is actually stable enough for final 2.0 release in my opinion. [N]F -
Why do you need software to do this? You already have the network, all you have to do is share the folder the MP3's are stored in. That's what I do. Sometimes when I forget to charge my ipod nad I really want to listen to music in bed, I'll just hook my laptop on, open up my shared folder on my main computer (which is always on) and listen away. That's what I do and it works perfectly. I don't know how many users would be streaming music, but for just a few on your network, this will work just fine.[N]F

Technically, if you're an A+ technician or about to become an A+ technician, 1024 gigabytes is 1 terrabyte. 1024 KB is 1 MB, and so on. [N]F

What Made You Switch To Linux?
nightfox1405241487 replied to snutz411's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Wow, Mark, that's a story! I absolutely hate citrix with all my heart. My vocational school uses it to provide students with Office 2003, network file shares and other things. My Cisco teacher is also anti-citrix because it's gotta load everything from the web and our proxy server likes to cut internet connections after they're idle for X minutes to free up resources so if you haven't saved, you'll get a message saying "Your connection to the Citrix server has been terminated" or whatever and poof! There goes Word with everything. Another thing I hate is sometimes I can't get to MY My Computer and will end up at the server's. Same with Control Panel. I'd be using SuSE as my primary OS if everything I did didn't require the use of Windows. I know I'd be running my laptop on Linu but darn Averatec hardware seems to favor Windows over anything else (if I set a switch, I can install just about any flavor of Linux I so please but I won't have USB nor PCMI support which laptops are worthless without.). Just another reason why I hope MS falls. But the good news is I'm working on getting my Cisco teacher to switch us over to SuSE linux. Finally, Linux in a classroom! Even most of the class seems to agree. Even though we need Windows, we could probably dual boot. [N]F -
Hehe... I rule :P1. Launch Firefox & go to Gmail2. Check School email3. Check other main email4. Optional. Check Yahoo mail5. Xisto & see what's going on6. Check other forums8. Start AIM & MSN because I probably forgot to 9. Open Dreamweaver & CoreFTP10. Open a site or some sort of project & work on it11. Download some scripts at hotscripts12. Any "real" work[N]F

Suse 10.0 Won't Install?
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yeah... hmm... wonder how that would go? Probably something like this: Me: Hey, your hardware seems to only like Windows and not Linux! What gives? Them: ... Me: Is Microsoft paying you guys or something to have something against open source software?? Them: No. Umm.. the tablet PC features just aren't compatible with any other OS. Me: So what? I want to use Linux and I should have full hardware support! I can run very few distros but I don't have USB support which is critical. Them: Use Windows. Me: But I don't want to use Windows! Hmmm... now that I think about it, this sounds like a conversation I had with a sales rep for Dell. I told them I didn't want Windows on the hard disk because I was just going to install Linux over it and why should I pay for Windows if I wasn't going to use it. Except I know Dell hardware will run Linux with no problems... [N]F -
Suse 10.0 Won't Install?
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Averatec C3500 (tablet PC/notebook). It's the dumbest thing ever. I swear it HATES anything open source (even my disk partitioning utilities that are based off of Linux won't run either. Like I said, only Ubuntu works but it doesn't seem to check the USB ports like the other Linux distros which cause kernel panics. It's very interesting since I've heard of other people installing SuSE and other versions of Linux on it. I don't know if I may need to flash the BIOS or what. Edit: I found something! After about 20 google searches with all sorts of combinations of keywords, I found this post on a forum: [N]F -
That's not antivirus But it is good antispyware. If you want to put your personal computer on my school's network, you MUST have AdAware installed and pass a scan. For antivirus, they really don't care what you have as long as you pass a scan. But for AVG, you could have a server that downloads updates and puts them into a folder and then configure the 20 clients to ALWAYS check that folder on the local server for updates & to always update off of that. Suse 10.0 Won't Install?
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Ok, I downloaded and tried to install 10.1 but I still got the same problem on the hardware configuration screen. I just don't get it. It's almost as bad as my laptop but my laptop won't run anything linux. Only Windows... well, it runs Ubuntu but there's no USB support (that's why all the other linux distros won't work on it. It tries to find USB and then it crashes).I'm not sure what that computer has against SuSE (or what SuSE has against that computer).[N]F -
Suse 10.0 Won't Install?
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Can you verify that the 900MHz range of CPUs were having problems for me? Nope, haven't tried 10.1 yet. I don't have enough CDs and that computer doesn't have a DVD drive. I'm hoping to get some CDs soon because if there was some weird bug in 10 and 10.1 fixes it, I'll be happy to try again! [N]F -
To be honest, I don't know how well this is going to work out? Personally, I think Google could have spent the money somewhere else than on YouTube. Like maybe improving their web service to something like geocities & less "noobish". That would be nice. YouTube was fine the way it was.[N]F

I *might* be able to help you. Because it wanted a restart, there's a good chance it modified system files which are usually salvageable by Windows XP's System Restore. To start system restore, follow the instructions: (You might want to print this out since it will require the reboot of your computer and you'll be offine) 1. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore 2. Click 'Restore my computer to an earlier time' (This should be default) and then click 'Next'. 3. On the calendar, click the day of or the day before you removed your sound program and click Next. 4. This next screen verifies the date & time you're restoring to. NOTE: You will NOT lose documents or files of the sorts and it is REVERSIBLE. Click Next. 5. Your computer will restart. After it boots back up, System Restore begins to restore your system back. This can take a few minutes. 6. Your computer will restart again, this time taking you to Windows. Login and verify that the speaker icon is then there. 7. Note: This may have brought back other programs, depending on when you removed them. System restore has saved me from things like this and even evil spyware. Hopefully it will help save you! [N]F

I know. Except I can't use Open Enterprise Server because the contest is over NetWare (actually, NetWare 6.5) but I can't use NetWare 6.5 because the license is in use so I'm restricted to all the old versions of NetWare my school ran. Instead, I'm trying this 37 floppy disk boxed set. So far, no luck. UPDATE: I gave up trying to install a 13-year old operating system on a 5-year old computer. Since my school loves NetWare, I'm using our old copy of NetWare 5.1. Since the licenses weren't in use, I was allowed to use them. The only problem I ran into was a non-compatible network card (NetGear FA311 which is only compatible with NetWare 4.10, 4.11 and 5.0) and I couldn't get the drivers to work so I purchased a compatible network card and it's being shipped to me. Other than that, I'm good to go! [N]F

Anyone here from the good old days of NetWare 3.12? I'm stuck in a hard situation. I need to load disk drivers for my much newer server. Anyways, here's the server specs:-Pentium III 900MHz-512 MB RAM-40 Gig IDE hard driveOk, so at the server terminal screen I see this: XERGE:_ Which is the terminal prompt, duh, as I know Linux and obviously "Xerge" is the server name.Ok, now when I try to load disk drivers using the command LOAD IDE (I'm assuming this is correct since it is an IDE hard drive) I then get:Loading module IDE.DSKNetWare IDE Device DriverVersion 3.12 April 26, 1993Copyright 1993 Novell, Inc. All rights reserved. Supported I/O port values are 1F0, 1E8, 168I/O port: 1F0Then leaving the 1F0 part and pressing enter, I then get: Supported interrupt number values are E, F, C, AInterrupt number: EI then leave it default and press enter and I'm back to the XERGE: prompt. From which I issue the command:LOAD C:\SERVER.312\INSTALL Which runs the INSTALL program. Then under the Installation Options menu, I go to Disk Options, then Partition Tables but then I ALWAYS get:There are no accessible disk drives, check to see that the drives are properly attached, turned on, and that the correct disk drivers are loaded. Press ALT-ESC to switch to the console screen if you need to load a disk driver. (Press ESCAPE To Continue)Any idea? I'm probably going to check about NetWare 5.1 tomorrow since I'm sure we're not running it and so the license should be able to be used. I'm not a Novell NetWare expert and any assistance is really appreciated! I need to learn NetWare for a class (actually a club in which we compete at state and national levels) and right now, I'm stuck! Thanks![N]F

Question About Vista And Xp
nightfox1405241487 replied to blue77's topic in Websites and Web Designing
rewrote it? nah... it's XP with 10 gigs of graphics, and 5 new features I tried Vista RC1 for a while and eventually I got tired of it and just put Windows 2000 on. At least Win2K doesn't have annoying security features and actually works. [N]F -
Need Feedback On My Banner
nightfox1405241487 replied to lonebyrd's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Well, if you want honesty, I'll give it too ya! It is VERY basic! But I'll give you a little hint to help you spice it up. Just go to http://www.good-tutorials.com/ and find something that looks good. They have TONS of photoshop tutorials and almost anything there can be modified to suit your needs! I'm ALWAYS there looking for things. Eventually, you'll learn a lot about photoshop and you'll be able to do really cool things with it on your own! Keep trying! I see potential in your banner! Bypassing Filtered Sites Getting around your admin
nightfox1405241487 replied to noddy's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Bess blocks IP and name values. 99.9% of all proxy sites are BLOCKED by Bess. I have a proxy for those special times but it's password protected and I give my friends accounts so they can use it. Quatrux, Bess also blocks translators due to this reason. **HINT!!** Bess will allow you to view SOME sites cached by Google!! This works well with free host blocks and generally anything else. If all else fails, find your school's service provider or main server room and beat the Bess server with a sledge hammer. Bess is the only dog I wouldn't mind getting run over on a highway.... Anyway, noddy, Bess will also find keywords in searches as well. "cheaters" or "cheat" is probably a keyword in your school's keyword block list. [N]F -
Actually, what I did when I was looking for a php editor, I just found a bunch and figured out which one had the features I needed, how stable, the license and such. That's when I found PHP Designer. It's great! If you install PHP on your computer, you can point PHP Designer to it and you can test your scripts from the program as long as they don't pass parameters though the URL or contain SQL, then a local installation of MySQL and Apache will work fine for debugging. The debugging feature is nice! One cool feature is that when you do more advanced stuff, you'll have code in brackets (e.g. { and }) and when you have multiple ones, it gets confusing. PHP Designer will actually highlight the set of brackets you're working in! Can't beat that![N]F
