  1. yeah, you'd point your domain to ns1.astahost.com and ns2.astahost.com. [N]F
  2. I'm trying to dual boot Windows XP Tablet & Kubunto 6.06 on my laptop/tablet PC. Now I need to split my disk up into several partitions, 1 for Windows and Linux ext3, Linux swap, and a FAT32 shared partition so I can easily share files between the two OSes.Now my problem begins with Windows. I need to move all the files in the existing Windows partition (the entire hard disk) to the FRONT of the partition so then I can go in and resize the Windows partition. When I defrag, I'm currently looking at 98% of all my files at the front of the partition & a stupid pesky 2% at the back and refuse to move.. it's seperated by almost 20 gigabytes of free space!!! Are there any freeware utilities that can move these stupid ^%#@#$ files next to all the other files so I can freaking partition my stupid drive???I've ran this useless Windows Defrag about 20 times in a row and the stupid files seem to be moving twards the END of the stupid partition!!! It also tells me some files can't be moved & it doesn't tell me which freaking ones!!! I'm about ready to just back-up everything, use my recovery disks to format & install Windows, then partition & install Linux then go back and re-install all my stuff. This is really starting to get frustrating...[N]F
  3. Yeah, that's what I ment. XIII, of course I've used Ubuntu. It's Linux so of course it has a root, they hide it really well which is great. That's why I suggest to anyone who really wants to start using Linux, start out on basically an idiot proof Linux distro. Yeah, again, it might just not be on the Live CD version... I'm sure it is on the installed version. I've installed Ubuntu 5.10 & all the features were there... just not on Kubuntu, unless the K Desktop Environment really is hogging space wise and they had to leave out some things in the Live CD. [N]F
  4. I got my shipment of Kubuntu CDs in the mail yesterday. So I decided to give the LiveCD version a try and is what I'm on right now. Actually, I'm using my mom's computer which doesn't like Ubuntu, but it likes Kubuntu! Now other than the terrible resolution of 640x480, I'm loving it. I'm not a big fan of the GNOME interface (hehe... the Windows User inside of me) but KDE on Ubuntu makes a difference.I want to check if the Live CD will run on my laptop (my laptop has caused kernel panics of EVERY distro of Linux I have) so maybe it'll like Kubuntu. One of the things I like about K/ubuntu is that it is pretty much what I call "idiot proof" linux. There's NO root account to worry about. Doing "n00by" things on a previous installation of Ubuntu, I couldn't screw up my system. My one friend at work was telling me one day about how he wanted to try Ubuntu. So I gave him a CD I ordered though ShipIt, and he loved it. Of course it wasn't the 6.06 version, but he still liked it. He is a n00b to Linux (I'm a little more experienced, so I'm above n00b) and he agreed with me, it's idiot proof. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it other than missing Firefox and OpenOffice.org. That's the only thing that saddened me (unless it is in the actual version you install and not in the Live CD for some reason).Other than that, if you used Kubuntu, what do you think of it? Btw, I'm using version 6.06.[N]F
  5. Man, that is really cool! If I could, I'd donate. Oh, and if you want to know where they're getting funding: But I agree with them, if you can download the disks be kind & save some money. [N]F
  6. No unless he's hosted at Trap, if he's hosted here, he'll just use Asta's name servers. Or he'll have his domain mask the URL. [N]F
  7. Yes, you are correct. You need a graphics card with two outputs, or two graphics card if they only have one output. This is what my setup is...err... going to be. But I've had a dual monitor system before, so besides the kicks (assuming you want this NOT to be cool), your productivity level goes up which is why I'm going dual... Also, dual monitors are VERY ADDICTIVE!! You'll have a hard time using one monitor again! Oh, if you do go dual monitors for extended desktop, take a look at this software, I think it will help too having a taskbar on the other monitor (I don't know why MS never put that in, but it drives me crazy...) http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm [N]F
  8. Not really... I mean, from what I saw it was actually passing information through the POST method. I mean, I don't want to send sensitive information like passwords through GET. I wish I remember what it was that I saw using it... gosh darn it... grr... what was it called?!?[N]F
  9. I've seen it in some other software but I forget where I saw it and how it was done other than this:In the HTML form:<form action="blah.php" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="action" value="login"><input.......So, would that submit to blah.php?action=login? Thanks,[N]F
  10. Yeah, my first host that used Cpanel was quite different... it also took me a while to figure out how to use the File Manager... I wish they would re-design it... it is sorta confusing. [N]F
  11. whoa!! I'd love a T1 at my house... but download wise, my DSL line is faster, upload wise, I'll take the T1... [N]F
  12. Wow, I just downloaded this to see what it was like and I think I've found my new PHP application!! I used to normally script in Dreamweaver but this has an EXCELLENT debugger! One script I was having problems with was quickly debugged! :unsure:I love it!![N]F
  13. Yeah, you're going to have a tough time finding a good free JSP host. OpaQue, I really think the main website needs a bit of cleaning up! [N]F
  14. I have DSL, so I don't know much about cable... try vujsa's advice and call the cable company & get your line checked. It's very rare that a router and/or modem will malfunction like that. With routers, just try upgrading to the latest version of firmware.[N]F
  15. I'm just asking, but why would you want more external IPs on a dial-up connection? But to point out something I noticed when I had AOL: When I surfed though AOL's junky excuse of a browser through the client, I had one IP but when I surfed though Internet Explorer (this was WAYYY back in the day) I had another. My external IP with IE was usualy 172.XXX.XXX.XXX and the one through the AOL client (which really hit AOL's proxy servers) was 6X.XXX.XXX.XXX. From what I think was going on, when surfing through the AOL client, I was hitting AOL's proxy server farm and outside the client, I was actually "outside" the AOL network so I didn't hit a proxy & was free on the web. So if you have AOL, you have two external IPs... the Internal proxy IP & an external IP that's all yours (for your session). [N]F
  16. Hmm... I just love the built-in spell checker!! So many features!! It seems pretty cool, except two of my extensions don't work, but that's OK... I'm sure they'll be updated soon. But it looks great!![N]F
  17. You know, on a business stand point, this looks like there's something going on between Microsoft and Yahoo... well, we already know Microsoft HATES Google so it sounds like something is going on between the two companies...[N]F
  18. Yeah, I'd figure there would be some other configuration involved... [N]F
  19. You can basically run a website off of ANY kind of computer. My laptop runs Apache for internal use, my Linux box is used for internal & external use as well. I (used to) have a 333 MHz, 128 MB RAM, computer running Red Hat Linux 9 as an internal server.Basically, you just have to worry about how much traffic you're going to get.An old computer, 333 MHz is great for a website that gets little traffic or INTERNAL network use only. However, a 2 GHz P4 will work great for Internet serving. After the hardware issue, you have to worry about LINE SPEED. A simple ADSL (what generally ALL DSL users have) has a great downlink but a SLOW uplink. This is why Data Centers have OC fiber lines. Fiber lines are sync speed meaning the downlink is the same as the uplink (haha... must be great to work in a data center ) so there's plenty of bandwidth. My DSL uplink is 40 KBps, so my website downloads for everyone else at that same speed too, regardless of what their connection is.[N]F
  20. hey guys!I'd like to install KDE on my FC5 system which currently just has GNOME. I guess all I'd have to do is open a terminal, su -, yum install kde & it should download & install then logout & log back in using KDE?Thanks![N]F
  21. Today I got my new Wise Wing W702B 17" LCD monitors for my new computer. Since I don't have all the parts, I've decided to use one monitor on my Linux system for now to replace a 15" CRT monitor which was really cranking out some heat!It is a VERY nice monitor! No dead pixels, just a stuck white pixel... which I gently massaged out. Sometimes it'll be a little stubborn, but it's out. Wise Wing is a subdivision of Prolink International & for a newer brand, I'll purchase again for sure! The one monitor I'm currently using is nice and bright! My laptop's screen even at full brightness isn't even this bright! It's a VERY nice monitor so if you're looking for an inexpensive (I got mine from NewEgg for $145 USD each) LCD monitor, go with this one from Wise Wing!! Great brand! After a while, I'll have to post in the review forum.[N]F
  22. hmm... that is very interesting. just sounds to me that you should just scrub your drive. I have this nice tool called Partition Logic. It allows you to go in and modify a hard drive's partition table. What I like to do is stick the disk in, and ERASE ALL PARTITIONS. Then I let the operating system installer add partitions & format. It's linux based as well.99% of all tech support you get on this planet will be for Windows only. Mention "linux" and they cringe (only because their software on their computer tells them to because they are all idiots... I've never ran into a tech support angent with an IQ over 50 and NOT reading off a computer). It's the one thing tech support doesn't want to think of. If you "mess" with a computer (lets say a dell) & you replace Windows with Linux. Something soon doesn't work. You tell the dell guy you installed Linux. Boom! "Sorry sir, we can't help you."Linux is a touchy subject. If you want MAJOR windows functionality, purchase an OS like Xandros or Linspire. They're about $50 and up depending on the version, but it is still cheaper than Windows, plus it is Linux so there are NO viruses!I also run FC5, and it is a powerful OS, if you know what you're doing.[N]F
  23. That's EXCTLY like the idiot who sued McDonald's because he didn't think their coffee was hot and spilled it in his lap.[N]F
  24. What version of Windows is it? I've had Windows computers reboot for no reason at all but upon closer inspection, a BSOD (blue screen) was quickly shown. Also, I'm a little confused. I've never seen any Ethernet adapter have any other lights besides a link light and an activity light, both being green. Is the ethernet built right into the motherboard? [N]F
  25. I'm creating my own friend network script which is going to be a combo of MySpace/Facebook and an AIM profile. One of the most important features is the adding of friends. The way to do this is probably simple & I'll kick myself when I see the code to do it. What needs to happen is a friend clicks a link which sends an internal message through the scripts messaging system (like a PM on a forum) to the other person to approve or deny the request. In that message, there needs to be a link to a page which executes a PHP script which updates the database adding both users to each other's friend list.I'm going to try and play with it a bit, but I doubt I'll be able to do it. BTW- I'm creating this to try and expand my PHP knowledge from beginner to moderate. All my PHP books are beginner based... looks like I should circulate my Amazon wish list to see if someone would be kind to buy me the PHP books I should be reading... :unsure:Thanks for ANY help. I'm currently going to finish up on the login system with access rights and try and get that working. Then I have to also get the message system working too. Then I can provide any database tables needed much more easily.[N]F
