  1. This question is basically answered and nothing useful has been posted. Everything is now redundant.Topic closed.xboxrulz
  2. That and better padding too. Also, you might want to check if your battery is worn down because of it.xboxrulz
  3. It really is. My old Macbook's polycarbonate casing kept cracking and caused so much pain for me to constantly sending it to repair. Now that Apple has replaced my Macbook with the all new aluminium casing and such and it's so much lighter and it's quite sturdy. However, I still make sure to not allow the glass screen to crack, which has always been my concern ... screen cracks. xboxrulz
  4. It is true that Windows NT is indeed a huge jump from the Windows 9x series. One major difference was the inclusion of the concept of kernel space and userland which didn't exist in the Windows 9x era since DOS never had it in the beginning. However, you have to remember that Windows 2000 came out BEFORE Windows ME. The problem was that Microsoft didn't want to let go with their idea of keeping Windows NT for the professional market and Windows 9x for consumers. They then realized that it was a bad idea and released Windows XP, which is disputed the reigning champion in the Windows world with so many people still left on it. Obviously Microsoft would do that, so would many other companies. Heck, Apple give student discounts so it's easier for them to enter the Apple market and hopefully stay there. As for Windows Vista, the design concept they did quite right. However, it's the lack of optimization that bit them in the butt. Like it or not, but UAC is REQUIRED for computer security. People need to start learning that or they'll be left behind with Windows XP which will be the last UAC-less operating system. Apple has its own version of UAC, which was inherited from UNIX and was tweaked so it's easy for users. Heck, KDE/GNOME has their kdesu/gnomesu which is basically UAC but less annoying. I don't like Microsoft, but they did things right this time around and you can't deny that there are both problems and "finally they put this in". xboxrulz
  5. As such, I would like to quote XKCD: Source: http://xkcd.com/323/ xboxrulz
  6. Ubuntu is truly for those who don't want to learn the full aspects of Linux. Other distributions like Fedora and OpenSUSE still provides "ease-of-use" but allow a more powerful machine for those who do want to discover what Linux really has to offer than a "Windows-alternative".As a long time Linux user, I can say Ubuntu has a good offering, but has still a long time to go if they want a larger install-base. Notably, they need to integrate a "Developer's Network" in order to foster better "3rd party" support. Which Ubuntu lacks when compared to Microsoft's offering. Obviously, people are going to say, well there are plenty of open source projects supporting Ubuntu and other Linuxes. However, here's the problem, most open source offerings don't cover what most basic computer user's need. Minimal learning curve for them to use your product and unfortunately, commercial software usually are the ones that pushes "ease-of-use" software.Until then, Linux will NOT replace Windows, but it will be a formidable adversary for the foreseen future.xboxrulz
  7. Hey guys,Apparently I made a poor design choice by declaring a global variable for my whole program and need to now "privatize" it. Would a good idea just be to translate them into structs by putting them into them and then just tell my code to just call them up whenever needed instead of going through the whole software and pass variables all over the place?xboxrulz
  8. I have:Windows 2000Windows XP HomeWindows XP ProfessionalWindows XP Professional X64Windows Vista BusinessWindows Vista Business X64Windows Server 2003Windows Server 2008Windows Server 2008 X64All these licenses free and courtesy of MSDNAA lol! I could get Visual Studio but found no use atm. I'm happy with Eclipse.A few weeks ago I was playing with Windows ME, talk about horrors, it's worse than a haunted mansion!xboxrulz
  9. I think a better thing for Microsoft was to just adopt ODF. There's no reason for Microsoft to create their own format. It's redundant.xboxrulz
  10. One thing Microsoft did that was right was the fact that Windows does have the tools to have fine-grained security, but unfortunately most users don't understand or will use them at all. Thus, nulling the point of including these tools which are not to be found on UNIX systems. However, for me, the biggest thing Microsoft did right this time around is the XBOX 360. Hell, they're outselling the PS3 like hotcakes. Unfortunately for them, the Wii is a better offer to most people.I own both the Wii and XBOX 360, so it doesn't make a difference for me.xboxrulz
  11. lol, and remember, the question was ... ummm 4 years ago maybe?xboxrulz
  12. Not bad at all. Has a lot of overclocking abilitiesxboxrulz
  13. I'm not talking about if the window stay open or not. I'm talking at the fact that the new Windows 7 taskbar no longer show the window title on the buttons. This is a problem for me which extends from Mac OS X. xboxrulz
  14. Xisto runs Linux as its server operating system. The FTP would say that it is running UNIX because Linux is a UNIX-like operating system. As for recommending a server operating system, I would recommend Linux. I run FreeBSD on my home server for college use. xboxrulz
  15. lol, ya, I actually never knew it lit up when I bought it until I turned it on. I was like whoa, what? Ohhh, glowy and shiny xD... anyways, any type of copper based aftermarket fan would be nice enough for your CPU. It doesn't have to glow to be great ya know, it was just a perk for me =P. As for AMD, ya, AMD does lag a bit, but I haven't had an obstacle where the Intel Core 2 Duo really outshines my CPU. Right now my system is roaring just as fast as my cousin with an Intel Core 2 Quad. Obviously, his machine will beat me when it comes to handling more threads due to the extra cores (and the fact he has a much better graphics card than I do) but for "regular day-to-day" application performance, there's negligible performance difference. I'm waiting for my local computer store to get some AMD Phenom stock so I can get a hold of one, their stock has been dried for weeks >.<" xboxrulz
  16. Now this is what I call an overkill of a plan. I can't quite see why anyone will ever need that much space. Heck, I barely even use up my current plan to the fullest >.<". I guess there's some XTREME users out there eh?xboxrulz
  17. I will have to give kudos for Microsoft for implementing fine-grained file security options that I can't seem to find on UNIX. It's not as in depth on UNIX than on Windows. However, that's if you've got the Business version or higher to see it at its full potential. If Microsoft places it across the border and educate users about it, it makes the operating system much more secure. However, I do have to agree that Darasen that they need to ditch the registry and take the UNIX configuration file approach. I would also love to see more shared libraries used instead of having programs having their own implementation of the SAME library. That said, they can take out the bloated WinSXS system which I find to be a hopeless attempt at DLL hell.Microsoft must redo its operating system like how Apple did with Mac OS X to make it better and even more secure. Its reluctance on letting go of the past is its shortcoming. Sure, a lot of users are going to complain, but Microsoft needs to know that its NT and DOS based era won't last forever unless they do a complete rewrite to rid them of the shackles that they have been notorious known for.Sure, bring application compatibility, but on another layer (like Apple's Classic API) and not be mingled with the operating system. Virtualization is the wave of the future, ride it!xboxrulz
  18. i c i c, but it still doesn't cut it if the windows are opened. What happens if you're like me who minimizes a window whenever i don't need it and then, you're like "oh damn, which window is this again?" if you're not too familiar with that certain application? Sure, you can click or highlight it, but it will reduce efficiency and waste my time. Microsoft needs to refine it. xboxrulz
  19. For now, it looks like Vista and I don't quite like how the taskbar is. It only reminds me of the Apple's Dock, which is a little problematic and I do admit it as a Mac user that the Dock needs fixing. However, some of that problem has been alleviated by exposé. The problem for me is that you need to highlight the icon to see what program that the icon is for. That problem exists in the Apple Dock. It also adds problems with different windows. This problem magnifies for chat windows i think.Nonetheless, I hope Microsoft adds it as an option to allow the older way of displaying window titles on the taskbar. For now, Windows 7 is like Windows Vista.xboxrulz
  20. I think it may also just be because your ambient air temperature is just too hot. Like I'm looking at your physical location, it may just be ambient air temperature. Try to keep it between 18C - 25C in your room for your hardware to not go KFC. Yes, congrats indeed. xboxrulz
  21. I think you need to get an aftermarket cooler since I believe that your system has insufficient cooling in the first place. A CPU should never operate over 45C on idle and over 55C on load (unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise). For a system that won't produce a lot of heat and still provide quite the punch, I would recommend you get an AMD Phenom X3 (or X4 is better). I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ overclocked to 2.78 GHz. It runs very stable at an average temperature of 45C and it doesn't ever peak 48C on full load. I have a Zalman CNPS-8700 heatsink. For more information of my build, check it out here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xboxrulz
  22. Usually IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, based on my past experiences only happens to either a bad hard drive or faulty memory.Other than that, it's usually fine. Rarely would it be caused by a graphics card VRAM.xboxrulz
  23. Try getting a chassis fan because I never heard of such issues before. It'll make sense for laptops, but for a desktop tower? Is this a Mini-ITX?Else, I don't see how it affects the CPU at all. It could also be a coincidence that your CPU Fan might be dud or there's just some problem with the thermal paste or just the heatsink? Then again, it has been known that the Pentium series, especially the later ones of the series had thermal issues where they overheat easily. If your system is a Socket P (LGA 775), I'd recommend bumping it to an Intel Core 2 Duo.xboxrulz
  24. I would recommend you buy a Mac and just run Ubuntu on a virtual machine (you can get a free virtualization solution from Sun called the VirtualBox)xboxrulz
  25. How much memory is your system running on?xboxrulz
