  1. Well, an update is showing that Microsoft is going to release Windows 7 on June 3, 2009. If that is true, I might get a free copy of it from my college's licensing system. That's how I got Vista for free =P. Why pay for crappy software when you can get it for free.xboxrulz
  2. I think it's widening the market for those who want a powerful iPod without draining their wallet. A good mix of price for performance.xboxrulz
  3. Alright, I found an alternative.I'll keep this for reference.Many thanks,Adrien
  4. I tend to stick to amaroK, VLC or Xine. However, on my Linux box, I have all of the media players (gstreamer, mplayer, VLC and Xine).xboxrulz
  5. I usually keep all my drivers updated. Especially graphics card drivers since they often provide a greater performance than the drivers preceding them. This holds especially true on Linux as both NVIDIA and ATi drivers are still a work in progress. As for DirectX 10, I think everyone can agree with you. There are things I like Vista, but the things I hate about it outweighs what I like about it... oh the conundrum. I need 4GB of RAM to run the system smoothly, I can do that with 1GB of RAM on Linux. Now when I'm on the Linux partition, it's like an out of control rocket when it comes to loading things (unless I'm running a virtual machine at the same time).xboxrulz
  6. Make sure that you supplied it with enough power. Sometimes IRQL errors can come up by not having 100% power. However, that's debated. What is completely true is the fact that you should keep your drivers fully updated.xboxrulz
  7. In theory yes, but I haven't seen a huge reduction in energy usage and heat dissipation from slower RAM. You'll get a larger power savings from a slower processor, graphics card or a slower hard drive since these are the bigger power hogs.xboxrulz
  8. AMD CPUs don't have serial numbers? My processor box has a paper with the serial number printed on it =S. xboxrulz
  9. Yes, as both are UNIX/UNIX-like systems. In Mac, just open the Terminal in Applications --> Utilities and then in the Terminal and type sudo <your UNIX command> just like you do on a standard UNIX box. xboxrulz
  10. 533MHz is ok for a laptop. If it's not for multimedia purposes there's no reason to run 667MHz or 800MHz at all so, you don't have to worry what type of RAM modules you're using as long as its DDR2 (for laptops).xboxrulz
  11. Just simply use sudo to do the action. Sometimes doing su on some distributions limit you purposefully or try right clicking the file on your file manager and type kdesu sh and press OK. It will launch a password window and let you run the application as root. In GNOME, it should be the same but replace kdesu with gnomesu.xboxrulz
  12. The poll and post makes no sense at all. As for this reason, I closed the topic since it MAKES NO SENSE!xboxrulz
  13. well, let me clarify that I use the string to store the SIN (Social Insurance Number) and I want to pick out the certain number out to analyze it.Many thanks, xboxrulz
  14. Hey guys, I'm just wondering if there's a CharAt function like there is in Java? I know in Java, you just do this: intArray[0][intCount] = strSIN.charAt(intCount) - '0'; Thanks, xboxrulz
  15. We are in a topic of easy aren't we? and the easiest thing to install things are out of the box. I know about FluxBox, XFCE, CDE and JDS and etc. There are a lot of distributions I can think of that choose one or another as default: Ubuntu with GNOME, Yoper with KDE, Mandriva with KDE and more. xboxrulz
  16. lol, this is the most broken English poll I've ever seen.I picked SUSE because that's my favourite distribution. Powerful yet very easy. Furthermore, there are so many options for you to choose. You don't have to be stuck with KDE or GNOME. You get to choose. I use KDE as my preferred desktop environment and have been using it since the KDE 3.1.x days.xboxrulz
  17. Well, he (or she) didn't provide any further details than the fact that his/her friend only got 4GB, an 9600GT and a quad core. As for the addressing, I got it from here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (I know it's a Mac article, but knowing that PC and Macs are now very interchangable, there's really no difference when it comes to memory addresses.) xboxrulz
  18. Try running Windows XP 64-bit and/or Vista x64 to check if it's an out of memory issue or something related to that since as faulty.lee stated it could be because he's running 32-bit, thus not getting to use the whole 4GB. Also, remember the addressing issue gets worse especially when you have dedicated memory on your graphics card. For example if it has 1GB dedicated memory on your card, you have to further subtract 1GB from your 3.2 GB of addressable space. This is because your chipset might be 32-bit as well or the fact that you're running in 32-bit mode. Also, can you post what type of RAM he has? I've had RAM issues before that lead to the system crashing out of the blue during gameplay. Like list the make/model.xboxrulz
  19. I'm not sure how's this such a huge concern at this moment. If indeed the probability of creating a blackhole big enough to suck Earth in was a huge probability, then no one would be even be dumb enough to fund the project and governments of TWO countries would not agree to this. So, I'm not too sure why it is such a BIG issue.xboxrulz
  20. The current average gamer configuration in 2008 is any of the combination:- Quad Core- At least 4GB RAM- 500GB SATA HDD- ATi Radeon HD 4xxx series or NVIDIA GeForce 9xxx seriesThere are so many parts that you can mix and match to make your desktop to your liking.xboxrulz
  21. This is quite weird, but I'm not too sure it's going to be easy either. I know you can make a user that can't access any folders unless its a root user by chmoding all folders to 0744.Goodluck on this project, xboxrulz
  22. I have since merged Google Chrome topics together.
  23. I can't add friends, delete posts and etc. all because of the AJAX/JS script that tries to render the dialog boxes but now apparently it's been fixed but hasn't been available for updating yet.xboxrulz
  24. I think that the lack of customizability is just the by-product of the fact that the software is still beta. However, I too, would love some customization with the browser. Something that Mozilla Firefox excels at. Furthermore, I still think the second issue with Chrome is that the WebKit engine it is using is still outdated. Plus, V8 has problems with Facebook so, it's not going too hot for me at the moment.xboxrulz
