Here's my entries, tried for a classical look rather than the regular grunge feel. Link to Robot Sig Link to Angel Sig -
Congrats Xisto! 10,000 members is a terrific milestone. I do wonder how many are actually active though. What would you call an active member? Someone that has posted within the last 3 months perhaps?

Soon To Be Resources Web Designer New to the Trap17.com site

Yes, the text graphics on your entrance page look much cleaner. It's amazing what a difference it makes, I was looking through your set and one that will really benefit from anti-aliasing is the "Bamboo Swag" set. At the moment the text graphics look really choppy, once you apply anti-aliasing that will be a really nice set. Even the graphics used for dividers in the "Lost in thought" set will look much better with anti-aliasing. As a rule thumb you can use anti-aliasing on everything except very small text graphics (pixel fonts). If you are using graphics that need to have a trasparent background you can still use anti-aliasing and avoid the "fringing" effect. If you want to use GIF format, select a background color close to the one the graphic will be displayed on and use 256 colors. You could also use PNG format but it doesn't display correctly in IE unfortunately, and I think you will need to use Photoshop to create the image. Here's some examples of what I mean... This is your original image from the "Bamboo Swag" set. 2 colors used without anti-aliasing. This is my image using anti-aliasing and 256 colors. This has a transparent background, but as you can see it has a problem with a black fringe around the graphic. The background color used of course was black. This is the same image as above but this time the background color used matches the background of the forum pages. This is the same image in PNG format, if you are using IE it will not display with a transparent background. It will display correctly with Firefox, (a much better browser in my opinion) but IE is still the most popular browser so as a designer you should cater for it. It is a shame because PNG format definately produces the best result for a trasparent background. Hope all that helps. [P.S. to MODS] I know this is almost a tutorial but it seemed most appropriate to post it here. -
Firefox Doesn't Seem To Like It this line of code

So is this to say that IE is too dumb to see the error? I guess if the first </script> was removed it work properly. Just curious why FF shows it but IE doesn't. -

MaverickFang, while you may not agree with the post from LifeMinistries, everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. I would not call myself a Christian either, in fact I don't follow any religion, I just live my life in the way I think is right. As such I respect what other people believe in even if I don't follow the same beliefs. This also means I don't aim personal attacks at people who have different beliefs than me like you did. As the saying goes, "Don't shoot the messenger." Please keep your comments objective and then you won't offend people. -
Problem With Page Redirect Help me out with this problem...
Avalon replied to ashish_m_k's topic in Programming
The simplest way to do this is to use a <META> tag in between the <HEAD> tags of your document. Here's an example... <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="5;url=http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/;The value for 'content' is the time in seconds that want the original page to be displayed, the example shows 5 seconds. The value for 'url' is the page you want to redirect to. Hope that helps. [END NOTE] When posting your topics you should try to make your subject more descriptive. A better topic for this post would have been "Problem with page redirect, please help". Moderators can sometimes apply a warning for using a subject topic like the one you have used. Just some friendly advice. -
But I've already voted, do I have to send a PM to Pleno?

When using Firefox I have noticed on the bottom of every page in the forum this peice of text... '; window.document.write(str); }// --> When I view the forum with Internet Explorer, the line doesn't show. Something Firefox doesn't like perhaps? Nothing appears to be missing, it's just additional text that appears. Rather odd really.

Soon To Be Resources Web Designer New to the Trap17.com site

Welcome Donna, nice to have another designer on board. Looking at your web site I have noticed you don't seem to use 'anti-aliasing' on your text so it looks a little pixelated. Is there a reason why you do this? I see also you use Paintshop Pro, I too used to use Paintshop but have been converted to Photoshop by the users of Xisto. I was reluctant at first because I thought Paintshop was a lot easier to use, but now I wouldn't look back. There are a lot more tutorials and resources available for Photoshop and there is no doubt it is more powerful and gives you more choices. Particularly when you start to use brushes.I think in time you too will see the light and come to embrace Photoshop as your graphics program of choice. -
Yes bad things happen and its really no different to things that have happened every other year, but its how we react to these things that make the difference. Take for example the tsunami around this time last year, Dec 26 I think it was. The people affected seem to have bounced back remarkably, with businesses reopening very soon afterwards trying to continue as normal. This is the type of resolve we all should have to manage these disasters. As for terrorist activity, living in dire fear of them is exactly what they want, live your life like this and they have won. Sure certain precautions should be taken, but don't fear a person just because they 'look' like a terrorist. This then becomes racism and that is something as an international community we all need to avoid.Try to focus on the good things that happen rather than the bad things and your life will be much more enjoyable.

Be patient, it usually takes a day or two before changes to domains become active/visible. This is because it takes this time for the changes to be populated across the internet. Try again in a day or two.

I too recommend Adobe Photoshop and Image Ready for making banners. However, I found the best program for optimizing the animation after creating it in these programs is GIFMoviegear. It is a small program that is very effective at reducing the file size of your finished product, assuming it is a GIF file of course. You can download a trial version of GIFMoviegear at http://www.gamani.com/ I hope that helps.

How To Give Hyperlinks To Site Before Upload?
Avalon replied to itssami's topic in Web Hosting Support
This is something that seems to confuse a lot of people new to web design. The easiest way to sort out your linked pages is to use 'relative' links. A 'relative' means the link assumes the page being linked to is in the same folder as the page with the link. To do his keep all your pages in one folder, usually your 'root' folder often called 'public_html' on the web server. It also good practice to keep all your images for your pages in a separate folder called 'images' which is inside your 'public_html' folder. To link to a page in the same folder as the one with the link, you do not need to prefix the page name with 'yoursite.com/', all you need is the page name like this... <a href="page2.htm">Page 2</a>To use relative links for images you can do it in a similar manner, just prefix the image name with the folder name like this... <img src="images/image1.gif">If you make the same folder structure on your hard drive as on the web server, the site will work exactly the same on your hard drive and the web server. Relative links will work for pages in all folders provided you prefix the image or page name with the relevant folder name where necessary. [edit] mayank posted his message as I was writing this one, we are both saying the same thing, I have just given more explanation. -
It seems there are ot many good renders of robots. Altough having said that, I just found one, figures doesn't it?
-
Shhh! Hopefully Opaque won't notice, I could do with a little more storage space. j/k
-
Heh.. now where have I seen that render before? Actually, strictly speaking I don't think it's a robot. Isn't it a man dressed in a battle suit/armor? Close enough!

This is a reminder to all members that are going on vacation during the Christmas break. Do not forget to earn enough credits to keep your site active while you are away. It's quite simple really, if you are going on a 2 week vacation, you need to make sure you have at least 14 credits in your account, for a 4 week vacation you need at least 28 credits. There will no doubt be some people will find it difficult to earn these extra credits, but really it's not. Just find a few topics that interest you, make a decent length post here and there and before you know it you'll have the credits you need.Despite this I am sure there will be quite a few members that come back from vacation only to find their web site disabled. I do hope these people don't start complaining about their site being down, the rules of Xisto.com are quite clear, you must have credits to keep your site active, plain and simple. Notice from cmatcmextra: Fixed typos

Here's my entry, hopefully it's not too monotone but the render just didn't seem to work with a lot of colour. The pixel stretch effect kind of reminds me the x-men character "Cyclops".

So the spinning of the earth is slowing down and they need to extend the year by one second? This puts some credability to the statement... "Stop the world I want to get off!" Maybe sooner or later we can actually do it, don't think I'll be around to see it though.
-
Enjoy
-
Scan lines over the top of renders just never seem to look right, I'd put them under the small blocks of text too.

Siggy Request Art gods make me something nice
Avalon replied to cut3st0rm's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
This is not the same image you wanted, but here's another Cloud render I just happened to prepare earlier. -
Very nice sig, I love the background. I would have liked to see more blending on the render, not sure if it has any at all at the moment. The only other small problem I can see... isn't combat spelt with a "K" in the game and movie of Mortal Kombat? ;)8/10
