  1. Trust me, it WILL breakdown. I don't care how much maintenance it gets, it will still break down at some stage. Take for example the space shuttle program, how many problems has that had? They spends millions on checking, testing and checking again, but being we are human, we make mistakes from time to time.
  2. Being an Aussie myself I thought this would be interesting. But I gotta say, I think the Aussie thing is just a little overdone. If the site is for everyone all around the world, shouldn't the theme in the forum be more international? By the way, there is a LOT more to Australian than just Sydney. (Is that a bit of typical Melbourne/Sydney rivalry there? Oh well.)
  3. ARGH! Only 3 entries and 1 vote! C'mon people... we need votes here.
  4. Excuse my ignorance, but what is "Devil May Cry"? A game or something? I must be old because I have no idea.
  5. And just think, not so long ago some people thought a network of computers all linked together across the world was a stupid idea. Why would a person want to allow some other person's information to pass through their computer system and use their resources, free of charge? It's called the Internet. Where would we be if we didn't explore some of these stupid ideas?
  6. Not trying to compete with Trap? I looks to me like you are. After all, you want to place these banners on Trap hosted sites. Sounds a little odd to me.
  7. I remember seeing a newspaper article on this subject. If I remember correctly there is a competition going for the first person/company to do it. Being as I work for an elevator company, the article sparked a great deal of interest. A few questions come to mind, assuming it is eventually possible. What if the elevator breaks down midway, how does the mechanic get there to fix it and how long would it take? How would you survive while you're waiting? How long would the trip take and will you have to listen to "Elevator Music" all the way? I think if you did, you'd be insane by the time you got there!I'll see if I can find the article and I'll quote some of it here.
  8. How about that, everything now works fine in Firefox. I am a little surprised the unclosed tags had an affect like that. I can understand the formatting going haywire because of it, but to stop it displaying content is very bizarre. I guess that's one to keep in the memory bank for when you see strange things happening on a site, check the tags!Glad I could help.
  9. What happened to samma's entry? Was it removed because he didn't show the original photo? A shame, the more entries the better I say.
  10. What I meant by this, is after the heading "M" in your content, it appeared the <font size=4> tag had not been applied like the rest of the headings. Looking at the source though I can see the font tags are there. Even more curious, when I look at your site with IE, everything looks fine, including displaying all the content to "Y". I really think it must have something to do with the way you have done your tags, it must be confusing Firefox.
  11. This is a little odd, when I look at the source for creatures.php, all the data appears to be there. This looks to be the last entry on that page. Yeti<div>Native to Tibet, this tall (up to 15 feet) white-furred humanoid creature may be related to the troll but as it will attempt to attack and eat any human that it meets, no witch or wizard has had an opportunity to study a living yeti at close range.<div>I would say it has something to do with your layout, possibly the error you have made with the <div> tags. Can you see where you have opened the <div> but haven't closed it with a </div>, it appears you have tried to close it another <div> tag. I like your layout, but to be honest, I think you would be better to break the list up a bit so you don't have so much information on the one page. You also another minor error where some of your section title headings, (i.e. the letters) that are not the same as the others. In addition, you have opened and closed the majority of your paraghraphs with a </p> tag, you should use a <p> to open and a </p> to close.
  12. I haven't entered SOTW for a few weeks, thought I'd have a go at this one. Link to sig Original photo Link to photo Good luck all!
  13. These are all excellent suggestions, as you would expect coming from someone in the industry. It is a pity not many people listen to advice like this. Here's some other advice. If you do buy and install the latest and greatest in virus and malware protection, (seriously you'd be mad to browse without it), make sure you keep it updated. The greatest protection in the world is not going to its job properly if it's not up to date with the latest virus and malware attacks being spread around the internet. You paid for the updates with the program, usually at least 12 months worth, use them. I am amazed by the number of people that have installed these programs but haven't updated them in over 12 months.
  14. Given the growing popularity of Firefox, you might want to look at formatting your page so it works properly in both. There are many resources out there that can help you with this. Chances are you can still keep your layout looking the same, you might just need to add some code to accomodate the other browsers.
  15. You are probably correct, the problem is that 90%+ of people use IE. So if you want 90%+ to not be able to view the site properly, then don't fix it. Now of course that is a silly thing to do isn't it? Sorry to say, putting your head in the sand and ignoring the problem is not an option, regardless of who is at fault.
  16. Perhaps these people didn't judge the sites quite so quickly. Maybe it was 20 seconds, not 1/20th? But it does raise a valid point just the same. Most people judge things by first impressions. This is not restricted to just web sites either, whether you like to admit to it or not, the average person will form an opinion about something or someone within about 5 seconds. This means that visitors will form an opinion of your site, (not review) in the first 5 seconds. Therefore you had better make what happens in the those first seconds eye-catching enough to keep the visitor interested. Sure, if they don't necessarily like what they see in those few seconds they might investigate your site further, but odds on they won't stay long if the next page also presents them with something they don't like.Because I use a dial-up connection, I can't remember how many times I could not be bothered waiting to see a fancy flash intro page. This means if you don't provide a way to bypass the intro that is external to the flash file, I'm gone. Give me a quick option to bypass the intro and chances are I will investigate further.Remember, first impressions count.
  17. Yes, once you start using different size thumbnails it will start to look messy. I think you will need to set the li element size to something bigger than your largest thumbnail. If you do this, will it run the risk of showing the dreaded horizontal scroll bar if viewed at different screen resolutions? I guess you could resize the thumbnails to a set width and let the height of the thumbnail be determined by the size ratio of the image, this will still look a little messy I think.
  18. Guess what? When you have enough credits to apply for free hosting here you have access to three (3) Photo and Image Gallery Scripts for FREE via Fantastico in cPanel. These scripts are "4Images Gallery", "Coppermine Photo Gallery" and "Gallery". Of these I have used Coppermine and found it very easy to use and it comes with a lot of options. If you want to know more about Coppermine, look here. Search no further. P.S. The only reason I don't use Coppermine for my own site is that it has too many features for what I wanted.
  19. Hrm... with both these sigs it is VERY hard to tell if the original graphic used was in fact a photograph to begin with. With samma's I have absolutely no idea at all what it was originally. Can I suggest we ask for the original photograph be posted with the sig so we can see what the creator started with? This may require some editing by mods for the existing posts.
  20. Away from the cold? Nice and warm here in Australia, going to be 33C/91F tomorrow. Absolutley perfect! Sometimes I just like gloat about how good the weather is here. I have that covered. When you go the "Banner Accounts" page on my site there is a range of banners and buttons that can be used to advertise my site.
  21. I hope for everyone's sake that report is as fake as the site it came from looks. The site appears to be purely a "Bush bashing" parade. I'm not saying it is fake, but the site looks like a place that thrives on sensationalism to make its point. Something on the lines of "Elvis lives and works at KFC!". I'd be wary of the validity of the report because just the very idea of nuking Iran is insane. Now some will say Bush is insane, and given by some of his actions of late he could be well be bordering on insane. But just the same, he has many advisers and surely not ALL of them can be insane can they?I think the moral of the story is:"Don't believe everything you read on the internet."
  22. Mich, now that I am able to download your zip files, I have a question to ask. Is it your intention to allow those that use your sets to modify them as they see fit? For example, what if they need a button you don't include in your set? Perhaps they want a "Login" or "Members" button, they are commonly used buttons on sites. Assuming the answer to my question is yes, can I suggest you include a copy of the font used to make the set in your zip file. This way they can add as many new buttons as they like.If do not want people to modify your sets, then I suggest you offer to make any additional buttons they may require. This might mean more work for you because you may need to modify the html as well, but I guess it will allow to maintain the quality of your sets.Just an idea.
  23. In addition to the linking problem and lack of templates, the free templates that are provided are only of fair quality. This is typical of most free template sites, the best option is to make your own site. Then you get exactly what you want without having to 'rehash' someone elses work. If you don't know how to make your own site then now would be a good time to learn, with all the web editors around these days, it's really not that hard to make a half decent web site.
  24. I cannot believe this topic even exists. Goofy, did you by any chance read the conditions related to your hosting account? The fact you are asking this question suggests to me that you did not. For all you know it could say that hosting is free for the first month and then costs $100 per month thereafter! On every single page there is a link to the "Xisto Readme", look in the shoutbox, I suggest you take the time to read it as it contains some very important information regarding your hosting account. And just in case you can't find that, here is the part of the readme that relates to posting and hosting credits. http://forums.xisto.com/topic/6147-posting-activity-rule-automated-hosting-script-know-about-how-this-system-works/ I make no apologies if this seems harsh, but surely you would think a person would read the conditions whenever they sign up for something. This is especially true if it is offered for "free". In reality nothing in this world is "free", you must always do something in return. In this case it is be 'active' in these forums by posting regularly.
  25. This site would have to the best I've seen for games cheats. I covers all types of consoles and it's sad to say I have used it quite a bit. (It's the only way I can beat my kids!) http://www.gamerevolution.com/cheats
