  1. A free program called Terragen lets you easily create mountains in no time at all. Heres quick start guide to have mountains for your graphics in no time. 1.Go download the program from here. http://www.planetside.co.uk/ 2. Hit World file>Generate terrain. then it will open up this menu. Rundown: -1 realsim of course is how detailed and realistic the textures of the mountains look. smoothing will smooth it out make it look not so rough and cgish. Glaycionism and Canyonism determiens how low the valleys and how high the peeks are -2When finished with it and have your mountains the way you liek hit generate terrain button and it will load your new terrain. -3 This is a black & white displacement readout white being the peaks and black being valleys any of you with previous displacement methods in 3ds max will recognize this -4 this is the rendering detail button on the render options menu to vary from low to high poly renders. -5 This is the final render thmbnail preview. 3. Copy my settings then render then varying on what you want experiment fom there.
  2. Yea I already took a shot at one tutorial few days ago. http://forums.xisto.com/topic/84958-topic/?findpost=1064310689 Problem Im having is its hard for beginers because I try to post good pictures to illustrate what im talking bout abut theres a limit on pictures like 10 I think. And the matrix one I dunno if I can do. Because I lostthe info from the guy who teaches how to do the code mapping. But ill look. Itd be awesome if you guys woudl give me my own lil sub dir on the tutorials part cuz I could do 15 easily
  3. I dunno the general age group here in this forum. But im 18 and finishing up high school I can tell you this day had already arrived. The discs may not be out but kids already have the sony memory sticks you can buy for the psp loaded with porn. Several kids at my school (freshman) have already been caught and suspended for having porn on there. I notice juniors and seniors tend to put there latest pirated movie releases on theres.Maybe as soon as I c the point in wasting that much money thats gonna be updated and obsolete in 2 years then maybe ill get one and put stuff on there that will out do all that illegal stuff.WMD Plans possible?Theres a thought body cavity searches for PSP the US'S new WMD!
  4. Yea. the first one could be done just layers and after effects but 2 youd definantly need a 3d program.
  5. Hi Im new to the tutorial buisness being the self-taught freak I am but I love to help and to support others. I wouldnt mind doing a few tutorials over stuff if people would actually read them so you guys tell me would you like 3ds Max Tutorials over this stuff below? If so which ones would you like to see most? oh btw... crappy demo real I did like 3 years ago.. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  6. Hey trish try just exporting the animation as a avi into ae then if you look in ae you can export to flash
  7. Apologize for it being so lengthyI had this conversation in depth with a guy who worked on the matrix sequels.Maya IS the industry standard if its not propiotary. Because like most for you know most major effects houses do write there own software. But few things to note.Outside freelancers- We all know ilm works on Star Wars right? Well something that goes unnoted that ive read is the amount of people they hire just for that show. You do have a large chunk doing animation modeling. But then the other half matte paintings, explosions all the particle simulations and any other off the wall stuff is mostly done outside by using anything and everything under the sun. With that said..Alot of questions arise? What programs best for doing what. What I keep getting told is dont be a "jack of all trades"Find out what you really wanna do and become good at that because if you do wanna get hired by a company theyll only have you working on one task. Its logical 1 man cant do everything. So really nail down what you want animation, compositing, modeling, fx.Back to software. What do I need to use. My friend asked the fellow from the matrix whats the best software.Whatevers the short basic awnser. Dont fret over needing to be able to work in other packages. If for whatever reason our using something as long as you like it and are good at it stay at it. If your good enough to hire then they make way for your needs but I havent ever heard of someone having problems or not being able to convert max to maya or maya to blender or so on or so fourth. But recomendations3ds max for modeling and known as a all-in-one which is character animation, modeling, fx, dynamics yadda yadda,Now I stick to fx, and modeling so I wouldnt know but alot of people I know HATE character studio in max and animating characters in general. But the best choice for a beginer just getting into itMaya ive never heard any real complaints about accept how long and hard the learning curve is. If your a programming type of guy youll like how open maya is to writing your own stuff and collaborating.Blender- Cant say much about blender I didnt use it more than 3 days out of frustration and went on to max.Poser- This Ive been told is awesome for animating if your jsut getting in. but like I said im not much of a animation guy so try a demo or something first.Sites...3dluvr.com3dtotal.comMattepainting.orgfloridafx.comHope this is helpful
  8. From few years experience I wanna say thats really friggin good for a beginner only few weeks in.Bump maps are your friend go add some grain grit maps like sand to it as a bump map bring it up jsut a bit not much to even tell its sand youll be amazed by it.And on the throwing star slight reflection map. I dunno how far you are into mapping but really if you get good at maps your models can suck but look amazing still.Feel free to message me if ya ened help with anything
  9. After effects will let you import video files such as that then export them as really anything you want gif, video, quicktime, jpeg, and yea even straight to flash
  10. AFTER EFFECTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If ya have it....After Effect I refer to it as the photoshop for video.Anytype of motion graphics instead of doing it frame by frame or anything long and complicated like that do it in after effects. Hands down. Also you can save project as a after effects project file and come back to it and change the output settings. Incase later on you want a flash or video version jsut go back and take 2 seconds to render out a different format.
  11. I have adobe premiere as well you should try to get a demo or something because its awesome for it. you can export as a "flm" a filmstrip file and thats exactly what you want.
  12. Only think I dont like about audio scrobbler is how long it takes to update. I mean your personal stats take 5 mins most, But the artist stats take days.Someone need to make an audioscrobbler for video. I think that would be insane.
  13. Ive seen how this kinda teqnique was performed by magicians. But what theyd do is use a fly and place him in a container with dry ice in it and the fly would be forced to inhale the carbon dioxide slowing down its heart but not killing it. then theyd place it somewhere. Next walk up to someone then pick up the fly andact like they just found it there but really they were the oens that placed it there. Then they placed the fly in their hand and acted like it was putting the life back into it when all that was really happening was the magicians hand was warming the fly back up and get the flys heart pumping regular speed again. Then the fly would get up and fly off like nothing happened. it was pretty cool. Ive never tried it myself though
  14. Quick And Easy Volumetric Clouds Using 3ds Max (This tutorial takes estimated 2 mins if you have a basic knowledge of max but if not Ive included step-by-step pictures) 1. Open Max or If opened already reset it to a blank scene. First we are going to create the blue hemisphere atmosphere. 2. Create a sphere. With the setting of Radius 50.0 and 32 segments. 3. Goto the modifier panel and add a "normal" modifier and make sure "flip normals" is selected. 4. Now add a edit mesh modifier. 5. Under the selection panel of the edit mesh modifier select vertex. 6. Now select the bottom half vertexs leaving only a top dome half. 7. Add a "UVW Mapping" Modifier. Make the mapping spherical. 8. Hit "m" to bring up the material editor. 9. Using a blank map under the maps for "diffuse color" click and hit gradient 10. Settings, (You can experiment for your own look if you want) Color 1: Hue:170 Sat:255 Value:104 Color 2: Hue:146 Sat:185 Value:218 Color 3: Hue:133 Sat:73 Value:220 Color 2 Postion: 0.36 11. Apply that to the sphere.. 12. Create panel> Helpers> Atmospheric Apperatus> Box gizmo. 13. Create various size and shapes but make sure they rest at the same height in the sky or sphere. Also make sure it fits inside the radius of the sphere (I personally create all the box gizmos then group them to move them around.) 14. Goto Rendering> Enviroment> Atmosphere> Effects> Click the "add" button. 15. Click add volume fog. 16. Hit "pick gizmo". then hit "h" and select all the box gizmos. 17. Settings 18. Render! Warning! Dependant on your processor may take awhile to render these clouds 19. Play with as needed varying on what you need this effect for. Hope this helps some of you and find it to be useful. A scene from a animation I did doing the clouds this day.
