  1. Thanks for the comment Reaver! I'm sorry i don't seem to get you: Feather to 15px? Alright maybe the sig wasn't enough to tell you how i did it but i definitely didn't do anything that you said. I think I'll roughly explain the steps here:1. Draw one solid, black, 19 point line.2. Smudge it up and down in a swishing motion so that all parts are covered with smudges then smudge it unevenly trying to make it look rough.3. Duplicate and make 2 more copies of the original "line" and overlap them by moving one a little up and lowering the opacity and vice versa. Thus making the sort of line that goes through the archer's eyes and the words. 4. Merge all of them together and plastic wrap.5. Searched google for a nice archer pic =P (Got this one from a guild wars site)6. Placed the archer on a new layer above the original layer. 7. Duplicate archer and motion blur - then lower opacity.8. Lower opacity of original unblurred archer.9. Added text with a little yellow glow and Papyrus font (Didn't want to make it too fancy coz the focus is on the archer)And that's about it. If you can explain a little bit more on lameman's terms what you meant about the feather, inverse, and layer mask. I'm totally new to this rendering thing and have never had any tutorials on this. Thanks again for commenting!
  2. You think maybe they actually started off a layout just like Internet Explorer's but shifted their idea to Firefox later on because so much more people liked it? Nice try though major9, personally i think new users are getting kinda weird in their posts. I'm not here to criticize but if you'll care to look at the memberlist, you'll find a bunch of members with 9-20 posts who just gotten hosting but find it hard to maintain their hosting credits. For people still earning their credits for hosting like major9, look at the post! There's a space for every single line, the browser isn't "new", and there isn't much information for a review. Again I'm saying I'm not like a sadist or something criticizing people's work but i find it annoying that there are posts around like this without any meaning to it, well a little i guess but nothing that would make someone in Xisto go-"Ah! I've heard of this!! Let me comment...". I hope i don't sound very horrible about it and if i appear very insulting m6e you can delete the post the and credits that go along with it. I just wish to state my opinion. Thanks!
  3. Hi guys! I've been creating self personal sigs for awhile that i do not EVER want to show off (You should know the reason...) so just 20 minutes ago, i tried a new render that was inspired by who knows what. Of course i only crated 1sig because it totally stressed me out on what filters and such to use on the renders and i couldn't go far. I'm not too good with colors and so i need some comments on my use of them in this sig. This is maybe what you can call my first try to developing real sigs so i hope the sig-masters out there like Reaver and Saint-michael can teach me a few tricks i can use to make my sigs looks better. Thanks and enjoy! First version w/o color Second version with a gradient lime green over the render.
  4. Hey m^e since you made it a point to state how to get back your files after the migration can you explain EXACTLY how you just erase the php files and keep the database? Am i supposed to download another copy of SMF(assuming I'm using the Simple machines forum) and delete the old files, then replace them with the new ones but leave the mysql databases alone? 'coz that would be great for my old forum that has been corrupted by parse errors too. Thanks!
  5. I have no idea what makes this game so fun. All my friends said its an alternative to CS but the graphics are just terrible. Plus it gets really boring fast. The controls are medium-hard to master i don't know about you guys but the itnerface gets on my nerve sometimes. It says that it is not like any other shooting games and yes i agree because it uses swords too but heck, give it some creativity man! It reminds me of gunbound all over again. And yes, i agree with you jipman, is this type of connection to every single player a peer-to-peer connection? Because i heard its fast depending on certain factors. But I don't have much of a lag in the game though and loading is just a tad slow at the welcome screens but when playing everything goes smoothly and fast.
  6. Are you sure the Nintendo Revolution is any better than the Xbox 360? I've tried almost all of the Nintendo consoles and all the PSs' around(Of course, not PS3 yet). I only tried xbox a little later because PS had more racing games which is one of my most fave arcade games. I later started playing Xbox because of Halo but fps style games aren't my type so i bought a few adventure/role-playing games and i found it pretty fun with so much more buttons than the PS. For Nintendo, I absolutely cannot tolerate its gamecube console controller. It looks like a lousy imitation of an xbox controller and it just doesn't feel right in my hands, so does all the rest of the nintendo consoles. I can't say the Gameboy wasn't remarkable because it was and the following Gameboy "sagas" were great too but overall, the xbox really achieved my attention because of its unique style and play scheme....AND Super smash bros gets boring after awhile...
  7. Personally Ruben, i do not believe it is humanely possible to accumulate 370 credits in one month if you've already got hosted in Xisto unless you spam. Even the "geniust" of all geniuses take time to think about how they are going to make their "tutorials" first before they put it down in the forums. So my opinion on this is: Let the maximum credits that an unhosted member have be 30-40. That way, even if you do not want hosting you stay at the same level. Besides, if you really truly do not need free hosting but just decide to play your part in this community, why do you need to bother about the credits? If you're a strong contributor to Xisto, which also makes you pretty smart in the computer sciences, why not develop a website and show it off to others and bring your contribution to the world!! (Exaggeration noted..) Conclusion: If you're smart - BE smart.
  8. I don't exactly get the part where you're supposed to browse and find the folder where the style is when you go to the display properties of your desktop. Can you explain it? Also, when i open up the folder with the msstyle files and double-click them, they open up the display properties and nothing happens or changes at all. Overall though, it looks like a great tutorial although I've heard of many people doing this before (Ack...including me =P) I've used a different tutorial to help me out with the transformation though and it requires more downloads: https://www.engadget.com/2004/06/09/turn-your-pc-into-a-mac/https://www.engadget.com/2004/06/09/turn-your-pc-into-a-mac/ It's a pretty cool tutorial and you can download the widgets you want. Although the tutorial is quite old and i think like Nate has obviously told us that there are much more better programs and modify everything into a Mac already so well yeah you get the idea. Personally though I'd prefer to use a real Mac if i want a Mac interface. I've used a Powerbook before and i find it pretty interesting to use and much different from the Windows Interface. Took some time before i finally got used to it but i still don't like Macs so much because of the lack of computer games designed for Macs or converted from Windows to Macs capabilites =P.
  9. I will be very much obliged to you if you shall do so. Hmm, I'm not exactly well acquainted with Javascript because i've never used it much but if its worth learning and its worth knowing. Maybe you could begin by giving me a basic overview of how the code should work in "lameman's" terms and I'll do my part in searching the net for some tutorials that i might find. Your help is much appreciated!
  10. You see, i just started learning the art of CSS! Wow am i a loser or what? Well anyway i find it pretty useful when i create a separate spreadsheet and link to it for every page because i used to just type in some random scrollbar and link colors for the CSS part of each webpage and sometimes when i change the background i need to change the link color of eveyr single one of my websites again which is a HUGE hassle. So anyway, i started working with divs too because their a great alternative to frames but i find it really difficult to work because it has so many capabalities. Firstly of course i bet you've all seen blogs that use divs to navigate between "pages" of an actually one-page-only website? You click on the "link" and it sort of switched the main div to the next one and overlaps it (well that's what i think anyway). So how do you do it? Right now i have an iframe as the content page and a div layer as the navigation side of the page. All the links will be linked to the iframe's name which is pretty easy. I just need a really simple code i can use to link divs and it'll be very much appreciated because i will help work out my iframe problems. Thanks!
  11. In Singapore, a UK influenced country, HIVs and other sexually or physically contacted diseases is almost never taught at all till i guess when you're older than i was, which was 14. When i was 12 though, i moved to the U.S. for a year and Health class were like 75% lectures about HIVs and such and why we teenagers not be so reckless. I believe the numbers of teen abuse has started to deriorate now that campaigns are held everywhere to stop this madness and by working together, this disease might even become "extinct" when the last person dies along with it. (Alright I'm not sadistic here but its practically true right?) I don't see why people with the disease have to "help" their enemy at all each and everyone of them can do a part in keeping the disease to themselves. I had many HIV-infected friends and a few had AIDS but they never seem to have any social problems at all and their just like any other normal kid. The people spreading these diseases are just so pessimistic, poisoning us all into our deaths.
  12. I really know nothing about sigs after taking a look at yours. I have one really huge question to make about sigs. Some of your sigs aren't fully rectangular and may extend out a bit so when you crop the sig you get some unwanted parts because you can only crop rectangular, so you make those parts transparent but when you do that, the edges touching the transparent part get all "crispy" and it isn't smooth. What shocks me the most is when you added a shadow to your 5th sig, yet the shadow is so smooth. In the one's i did there would most definitely be a white border around my shadows even if i made the bg transparent. I would most glady appreciate it if you can show me how you solve this problem. Thanks!
  13. Wow... back when i was in Singapore Deepavali was a pretty big deal in some parts of the island. Of course all i knew back then was that school's out for the day and i didn't really appreciate Hindu Culture back then. I had a Hindu swimming coach who's also sort of chinese but he celebrates chinese and india festivals. He invited me along to his house on Deepavali and it was just like Chinese New Year again, except that there are so many oil lamps. I'm not sure about How India celebrates this festival but my coach's family treats it like a friendly reunion for friends and relatives. They will dine with a HUGE indian buffet and everyone will sit and talk (Well...not exactly, what really happened was that we sat down to watch some soccer =P). That's pretty much it but i really enjoyed it because i had witnessed myself Indian culture and their food (oh Indian food is just so good!! I love Roti Prata!) and the family told me all about the other festivals and such which is pretty cool. I loved some of the many Hindu stories too and I've been to the temple. Well, in the end I'd just like to wish all of you happy Deepavali!
  14. Well isn't that's what the site's all about? To encourage Belgium users to use the .be domain? If the website is written in English that site's gonna go down really fast because .be is a really simple domain name. Would love to have it. Though how are you supposed to trust these people?
  15. Played it over a friend's house before. Pretty cool game. Seems to give you plenty of freedom in fighting and everything is realistic. Well at least if u find using Force to slam some guy on the wall over and over again and (the enemy) losing health at the same time. I only played for a short while and never really got the hang of the controls. It was a fabulous experience though, i just needed to save up for Guild Wars 'cause its way better no offence to Star Wars =P.
  16. Ah..Logan that's the GW spirit! I've got a friend who's beat the game and a cousin who just grew bored and tired at Gates of Kryta. I wouldn't know how long I'll last with this game because i usually stray out of a certain MMORPG after a few months of playing. I've played GW for 2 weeks (using my cousin's 'cause he doesn't want it anymore good stuff in the account tho =PP) and now have a pretty successful Ele/necro. I've never been interested in pvp before when playing MMORPGs but after GW I've got a whole new experience in it. As for your saying that the admins come in and talk to you guys I've never really noticed them around at all. Do they only appear in high-level areas? Overall I think Guild Wars is well worth its $50, no non-monthly-fee MMORPG can ever be this good. GW can keep you on your seats and hanging on for the next adventure for more than 3 months. Which is a great accomplishment if i ever make it till then. Great game GW... =P (I'm sorry if i sound stupid but I'm just obsessed with GW...)
  17. That's pretty interesting, the psychic powers puts an extra twist to the game which kinda brings me back to Star Wars Jedi Academy. That was really fun. Although I'm not exactly a big fan of shooting-games, I think the price is pretty well worth it. I've found dozens of pretty fun puzzle games over the net (have nothing better to do) especially with realArcade and most of them take like $10-$30 to unlock. Quite a hefty amount if i should say.
  18. Hmm...i don't have any problems of the sort whenever i go to the site though even after HTML_guru stressed on it. I've changed the options of my anti-virus program so that it asks my permission before letting any data out or into the computer. Nothing pops up on my behalf whenever i enter the website. Neither did anything pop-up before HTML_guru's reply. Does this trojan affect only some people?
  19. WOOOT!!! HOORAY!!!! CHEERS!!! Or anything other congratulating verse you can think of for me 'cause i just edited my first bit of php!!! Whee! And because I'm so happy for myself being able to edit just that small bit of php i shall post about it here! From...... function themeheader() { global $user, $banners, $sitename, $slogan, $cookie, $prefix, $dbi; cookiedecode($user); $username = $cookie[1]; if ($username == "") { $username = "Anonymous"; } echo "<body background=\"themes/IceCold/images/bg.jpg\"bgproperties=\"fixed\"topmargin=\"10\"leftmargin=\"0\"marginwidth=\"0\"marginheight=\"0\" text=\"#ffffff\" link=\"#ffffff\" vlink=\"#ffffff\" alink=\"#ffffff\">"; if ($banners == 1) { include("banners.php"); To...... function themeheader() { global $user, $banners, $sitename, $slogan, $cookie, $prefix, $dbi; cookiedecode($user); $username = $cookie[1]; if ($username == "") { $username = "Anonymous"; } echo "<body background=\"themes/IceCold/images/bg.jpg\"style=\"background:url('themes/IceCold/images/bg.jpg') fixed no-repeat;\"topmargin=\"10\"leftmargin=\"0\"marginwidth=\"0\"marginheight=\"0\" text=\"#ffffff\" link=\"#ffffff\" vlink=\"#ffffff\" alink=\"#ffffff\">"; if ($banners == 1) { include("banners.php"); Ok...so maybe its not that much, but it worked! The first time i tried though it didn't turn out right and i had to reset everything now its great! BG is fixed even on Firefox! Lovin it! Thanks abhiram! *Hops around happily and flies out the window*
  20. Ahh yes, if you'll try viewing the site in IE, you'll see the background is fixed i couldn't find the code for fixed in REAL official HTML format heh i only know the body tag. Thanks abhiram, I'll work on it immediately.
  21. Hmm...yeah it DOES look horrible when it is loading heh. Well i'm a big fan of Harry Potter so decided to make one. Thanks for your idea but after all my hard work put into nuke i don't think i can take the change. If you're willing to help me out i wouldn't mind one bit. Games is something of a challenge for me. This is role-playing game so anything related to the HP books is totally out of it except in the bulletins. Tho the Trivia might work for some courses....thanks for the review!
  22. Well seeing so many people reviewing their sites i thought maybe i should review my site too. I'm a total amatuer designer especially when it comes to php coz i only work with HTML but I'm still not exactly good at either. Of course a bunch of you whom i have asked questions from must've been eager to find some productive work done from me (referring to vujsa here especially, i needed that php help!). So I've installed phpnuke, picked a random nice theme from out of Google Search and started looking through the php in the theme. Luckily for me, i chose a pretty basic and simple theme that i could actually make out. Right now i haven't edited any php yet (Sorry vujsa!) but I've done some editing on the HTML part of the theme. Its really not all that much but i needed motivation and some advice. It's designed for IE but works with Firefox too. Needs alot of work from my part and I'm not intending on releasing it out till the end of November. Here comes.....: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I've tried to make it look as professional as possible (please ignore the footer =P), going to add a shoutbox soon as one of the blocks but having big difficulties with the php editing. I totally want to adjust the account creating page but have no idea how. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for everything in advance! P.S. Feel free to sign up and browse around to look for any flaws that you might encounter. Just remember, its a ROLE-PLAYING site, keep the role-playing atmosphere!
  23. Well, if i were you i would show the links "words" as it is and not show them when you get a mouse hover over them. Firstly because it looks just weird to see the bullets with no links there and whenever you go over them you get that poppy sound. If you still want ot leave it as that though, you should make it so that the animation goes on even after the mouse is moved away from the hotspot. That way visitors will know that its a link not a site "Under Construction". Other than that, looks pretty ok for a clan site. Have fun!
  24. This is hilarious, firstly, there is basically no big difference between Windows and Mac. Safari is pretty well equipped just like IE. Speaking of difference, Mac's code is way simpler than Windows. There is no reason why some websites wouldn't be able to display on a Mac computer. If you have the components, such as Flash/shockwave players or other ActiveX controls, all websites would be able to view in the Mac. The only other drawback for Macs is that the interface is totally different from that of Windows. My computer = Finder. Macs are also pretty fast, although most games made for Windows take awhile to be converted to be compatible for Macs. Apple is a great company, first and one of its kind. Windows just "copied" their ideas. If windows supports a certain type of program not affliated to Microsoft, then Apple computers would most definitely support it too. Not forgetting the cool dockbar, totally original!
  25. Could be that the official "counter" doesn't include scam websites or anything bogus and such. Like you could leave a blank page as a website and it won't be counted as a registered site. How the counter would know that, i have no idea but who cares. 17 million websites is still a big number, even though it is waaay lower than the amount of money the world's richest man has. A pretty interesting fact though...good to know the internet is being put to use. (Not totally GOOD use though...not yet that is =))
