Gigabyte GV-R467ZL-1GI This card replaces an old XFX 8600 GT XXX edition that died on me (three capacitors popped—similar in sound to a balloon popping, only more high pitched). In comparison to the one it replaced, the 8600GT had 620mhz (factory overclocked), this one has 750mhz (not overclocked, though it can be); the 8600GT had 32 stream processors, this one has 320. It can play all of the games i have on their highest settings without any lag. As you can see on the image, it comes with a Zalman heatsink and fan—Zalman is a good choice. I have owned this card for a month and it is still kicking. The box advertises longer capacitor life, which given my previous experience, is much preferred. While it doesn't have a 256-bit memory interface, i don't expect it to be much of a difference concerning performance, and with 1GB of GDDR3 RAM, i don't expect it to tax any of my other hardware. In trying to find some tools that test out the rendering capabilities of the card that are cross-platform, free, and that displays stunning scenery, i have found Unigine. It also allows you to take screenshots of what is being dynamically rendered. Here are the ones i took under Linux with OpenGL: click. Here are the ones from Windows and DirectX 9: click. Temperatures are 10 degrees cooler than my previous graphics card, idling at around 40 degrees Celsius and somewhat over 55 degrees Celsius on load. This is likely due to the 55nm technology. In Windows in the Catalyst Control Center i can choose to manually control the speed of the fan if i wanted to. Troubles and Troubleshooting Unfortunately some problems i did run into, albeit they aren't necessarily the card's fault. Linux No problems under here, after you successfully install the drivers, that is. Personally, i'm a bit amazed that Ubuntu actually succeeded in doing away with the "xorg.conf" file normally located at /etc/X11. They had said they were going to do it, and they've done it. However, that, i believe, is one of the problems i ran into. In other words, after installing the proprietary ATI drivers, be sure to run this command: CONSOLE sudo aticonfig --initial -f Windows The ever so common "VPU recovery" error is quite annoying. [skip to solution] So far i have not been able to overcome this problem, but searching online shows that it isn't specific to any card and model. It's not an overheating issue, i am certain of it, and i don't expect it to be a faulty card issue. It is quite possible, however, that i may need a BIOS update, but i'm not going to bother with that. Other research suggests or implies that it is DirectX's fault—not sure if the card is backwards compatible with DirectX 9, since the card advertises DirectX 10.1. I have not been able to reproduce this problem in Linux; however, i can't say that there are any games (or benchmarks) out there for Linux that will work my gfx card out hard enough to experience a system crash or at least a "VPU recovery" error. It doesn't seem to be operating system specific (at least concerning the different versions of Windows), so i don't think it is the case that i am using DirectX 9-based games. Other possibilities could be incompatible chipsets: that is, using a Nvidia based chipset (e.g. nForce) with an ATI graphics card. My motherboard doesn't have an AMD-based chipset, but if i ever do get one, i will surely report back (assuming i still own this graphics card and it is still kicking). Another suggestion was that the power-saving feature of the card causes the problem, but after using RivaTuner to force a constant 750mhz core clock, the crashes still occur. I hear UT2004 and Doom3 might be good benchmarks to test the card out, which, i believe, both games are available for Linux. I have downloaded Doom3 (it's free), but have been unable to run it due to, apparently, a missing configuration file. I'll see if i can get my hands on UT2004 or higher and try to reproduce the problem. If i do get it and the problem doesn't occur, then it is possible that it is a DirectX problem. If it weren't for this problem, i'd rate this card 10 out of 10, but it gets a 7.7 out of 10. [solution] I seem to have overcome the VPU recovery error by resetting my BIOS to a fail-safe setting (mode). I can now play for really long periods of time without any system crash or VPU recovery errors. I have not been able to figure out which setting in the BIOS exactly that was causing the problem, but it does not seem to be concerning my RAM. While this solution worked for me, it may not work for everyone, but now that i have overcome the problem, this card is awesome.

I can understand why anwiii chose those kinds of words, even though his bluntness precedes him. The topic starter picked a bad choice of words. I have marked in bold the parts that were a bad choice of words, and underlined where context made it seem a bit bad: Due to the fact that sex or other physical, sexual contact was emphasized through repetition, and some inconsistencies from the actions of the topic starter, i can see why anwiii picked his words. But i also agree that the way anwiii argued his point didn't make much sense—and i would not have used such bluntness. For the inconsistencies of the topic starter: You said you dumped her; okay, so you knew something was not right concerning the age difference. However, probably due to the disappointment and perhaps not wanting to let her go, you are still trying to seek after her even though you dumped her for the age difference. This is mutually exclusive; which one is it: did you dump her or not?—you can't have both. As for anwiii, he emphasized the point about flirting with her at her house. This contradicts his "sicko" statements through implication, as it implies that if it wasn't done at her house, then it would be okay. This obviously works against him. Due to the bad choice of words picked by the topic starter, i would agree with anwiii that the topic starter should leave her alone; if any contact (and i mean social communication) is made, then it should be nothing greater than mere friendship. When enough time passes, then you may consider something greater; until then, restrictions apply. And if she finds someone else in the mean time, let it go—especially if you seek her happiness. -
There is no limit to posting anywhere. There is a limit as to how many myCENTs you can earn for a post. However, concerning you, it would be due to the topics you have posted. Both were founded to be from outside sources and you did not put quote tags around the copied material, therefore we had to do it for you, therefore you saw yourself in the negatives. You should know that continuation of disobeying the rules will result in more than just negative myCENTs.

Do i smell a hint of sarcasm or is that plus sign intended to mean something else? I can't say if a plant feels pain even though there have been studies that say that plants emit something that is only detectable by special machines when the plant is inflicted with what we call "damage," but we can nevertheless see the effects of the damage caused, to which a conscious being would declare as "pain." And concerning single-celled organisms and viruses, i wouldn't suspect them to enjoy becoming a meal for white-blood cells. In other words, while what i would consider "pain" may not be as scientifically sounding, i would define pain as some form of extreme discomfort. Other than homeostasis, i'ma assume you also mean to include metabolism (as homeostasis is implied in metabolism). They are, but i can't say whether a living organism continues being a living organism after it is dead (i.e. as we practically understand death). For even though it is dead, it still bears all that it had, that is, at least until decay occurs, albeit those parts would no longer be functional. Given the definition you provided from Wikipedia for the word "life," homeostasis implies functional parts, therefore assuring that it is also considered dead within biology. But because it is dead, does that in turn make it a "non-living organism" or will it remain a "living organism"? And does calling it now a "non-living organism" contradict the definition of a "non-living organism" as defined by the biological sciences? You assumed correctly. If you think about it, did a living organism write its own source code (i.e. DNA)? If it did, i would expect it to be a bit of a paradox, since DNA is said to hold the information needed to even construct the organism. I mean, i wouldn't suspect for such a simple organism to say, "Okay, i've got a good plan on how to construct myself. Now where to put it all? " So the first microscopic lifeform lived off of carbon dioxide (though some might suggest that life started under water)? "Organisms" here seems a bit ambiguous. Even though you mention "first cells" a little bit into it, you say they came after the previously mentioned organisms. I am not sure if you are assuming a fully-formed organism (e.g. a plant), but if you are, it is not safe to do so, as there is no explanation on how these oxygen-causing organisms came into existence.

What Ide Has The Best Python Completion/call Tips?
truefusion replied to rob86's topic in Programming
While a Python script's object's structure can be disclosed since every object in Python has a built-in dictionary that keeps track of its structure, i would not expect a Python IDE to dig through that dictionary (upon start-up) to fill an auto-complete combobox or list widget. I would expect it to have its own documentation that it searches through for that. In other words, check how Komodo does its thing and see if it can be extended. In the mean time, you can try out Eric. -
How To Display Temperature Of Any State Or Locality In Our Website?

Here's an old PHP function of mine from an old, dead script i have lying around: function make_well_formed($matches){ $matches[0] = str_replace("<![CDATA[", "", $matches[0]); $matches[0] = str_replace("]]>", "", $matches[0]); $matches[0] = str_replace("&", "&", $matches[0]); $matches[0] = preg_replace("/<br ?\/>/i", "", $matches[0]); return str_replace(":", "_", $matches[0]);} function applet_xml_object($xml_src){ $xml = file_get_contents($xml_src); $xml = preg_replace_callback("/(<\/?\w+:.+\/?>|<!\[CDATA\[|\]\]>|<[bB][rR] ?\/>|&)/", "make_well_formed", $xml); $xml = simplexml_load_string($xml); return $xml; } function yahoo_weather_applet($zipcode){ if (is_numeric($zipcode)){ $xml = $this->applet_xml_object("http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/); $output = "<div> <p align=\"center\" style=\"vertical-align: middle; display: table-cell; width: 200px; height: 140px;\"> <img src=\"".$xml->channel->item->description->img['src']."\" alt=\"".$xml->channel->image->title."\" align=\"center\"/><br/> <b style=\"font-size: 22px;\">".$xml->channel->item->yweather_condition['text']."</b> </p> <p style=\"vertical-align: middle; display: table-cell; width: 200px;\"> <i>".$xml->channel->item->pubDate."</i><br/> <b>Temperature:</b> ".$xml->channel->item->yweather_condition['temp']."°".$xml->channel->yweather_units['temperature']."<br/> <b>Barometer:</b> ".$xml->channel->yweather_atmosphere['pressure']." Since you're a programmer yourself, i wouldn't expect you to have any trouble reading this. -
Pain is a stimuli, but to say "stimuli" you basically allow for "stimuli" to mean "input"—in other words, any form of input, which can be either pain or typing symbols into a computer, et cetera. Using "pain" instead of "stimuli" is more restrictive, therefore avoiding robots. I wouldn't say that "life" and "living organism" have the same definition in science. Creatures as in things of creation. I did not want to group humans as animals (through implication) by saying "humans and other animals," so i said "creatures"—which works perfectly fine for me. After refreshing my memory on cellular mitosis, according to the images (computer animations) (though i would have preferred actual microscopic recordings—since anyone can make a computer animation, and we have to accept things as is, therefore making things not necessarily true), when a cell splits, "information" is "lost," and both halves look the same. Therefore forget what i said about exact copies. However, i can't necessarily work on what you think they mean. Just like cells may have DNA within themselves that supposedly hold their structural information within, so do objects (as in object-oriented programming). Normally, if you don't provide your own copy constructor, the compiler will do it for you. The copy constructor takes (i believe) one parameter: the object you want to make an exact copy of. I don't think you need to ask if the program is capable of development. But you don't need a compiler for a program to make a copy of itself; albeit, you do need a compiler to turn the source code into machine code. But concerning a compiler compiling a compiler: GCC is normally used to compile GCC. But how does GCC compiling GCC fit into the definition you provided? Executing GCC to compile GCC is GCC responding to input (stimuli). Once the compiling is done (assuming you compiled the same version), you have made an exact copy of the GCC you have installed. If i assume what you think biologists mean about "self-sustaining," you could look up "statically-linked" and "dynamically-linked." If life cannot exist without variation, then you have to explain how the first living organism came into existence and how it managed to survive and mutate into all that we see today without other forms of variation (the resources you speak of). The way you mention it implies an abundance (at least enough to survive) of resources for that first living organism.

SQL vulnerability usually deals with the script that was written that makes use of an SQL-based database. If one is careless with their script and doesn't have anything to counter things like SQL injections, then their entire database can be disclosed to the hacker. When the database is disclosed, things like user names, e-mail addresses, passwords and even credit card numbers can be obtained. You should be able to see from that just how big of a problem having a SQL vulnerability in your script can be.There are programs out there that test out your site's vulnerabilities (though they may come with a hefty price tag) and report to you the results. Aside from any bugs within the database server itself, it is usually in the hands of the developer to make sure that their script is not vulnerable to things like SQL injections. A general rule of thumb is to filter all input. Find out what is considered a special character for the SQL syntax and prevent users from using them to their advantage.

It can read it if you install the drivers for it like i did; however, writing to it may be a different story. Now-a-days, using just about any ext2 driver won't work since many of the popular distros increased the inode size to 256. The one i use is Ext2Fsd. Works well enough for me.

I don't really like the scientific definition for an organism (and many definitions for scientific terms), as it kind of goes against casual intuition. However, i also realize that when you try to make a definition that tries to exclude everything you don't want to be included, it can become difficult to define a word. The part that goes against casual intuition is the part after responding to stimuli—i would have stopped at "responding to stimuli;" although, i would not have used "stimuli" but "pain." For example, consider the following problem: viruses are considered (from what i hear) non-living organisms since they require a host to replicate. However, consider humans or any other creature: they require the opposite sex. Creatures can't split in half like bacteria and other living organisms—this is what i call self-replication, as it is an exact copy of the original. And as far as i'm concerned, no physical thing is self-sustaining (i.e. does not require external resources for survival). In other words, terms like "self-duplication" and "self-sustaining" are ambiguous. I can make a program that fulfills the definition of an organism that you have provided, but i would not call it a (living) organism.

The topic title and topic sub-title do not explain exactly what you want, neither does your post. You also didn't provide which language exactly it is that you are working in.Do you mean how to pass an array by reference into a function so that you can modify the contents of the array within the function? Languages that support passy-by-reference usually use the ampersand symbol (&) to pass a variable by reference. Make sure that in the declaration of the function, that the parameter that takes in an array has an ampersand (before the variable name).

Safe mode places restrictions or disables certain functions from being executed. A lot of these functions concern basic file management functions, along with many others. This can cause file upload scripts and flat-file based scripts from properly working or from even working at all. There are many ways around PHP's safe mode, therefore technically providing a false sense of security. Safe mode has been deprecated in PHP 5.3 and has been (will be) removed for PHP 6. Relying on PHP's safe mode may merely put you behind.

I had thought about building my own forum to advertise a package on my site as a combination of CMS, shoutbox, image gallery and forum, but decided not to, and i don't plan on attempting any time soon. While i wouldn't have any difficulty making one, it is too time consuming for me right now where i would rather spend that time finishing up the projects i already have. Plus, i don't really like working in groups. If you want to code one, i would suggest just finding one that is "good enough" and just joining in the development of theirs if they allow community support.

PHP safe mode is not enabled. It is better if it is not enabled, at least for developers—less things get in the way if it is disabled.

It was good knowing you—however short it may have been, even if i can no longer speak to you directly. It was wise of them to insist in putting the cat in a box, but due to governing laws, that was as humane as they could get, and also the reason for not being able to retain the alien cat forever. Sadly, i cannot entertain your questions any further, as i realize the time left for an intact conscious of mine is short. Indeed, since you have been spotted, the alien cat has indeed already taken desperate action. Your questions are there merely to keep me occupied, in keeping me believing that you still are your self and are not mind controlled. However, the alien cat's mistake was informing me of their plan to take me down with you. I'm sure we'll meet again, when "you" try to capture me. I'll be ready to regain your conscious to your self. Till we meet again.

Use modules for the language of choice that can read PDF files, then have the script serve the content of the PDF to a Flash movie or something. I doubt they'd be able to take the content from the SWF file (which would only be one chapter or a few sentences). PHP has modules that can read and create PDF files. Look at the PHP manual for them. And if what is in the PDF file really important, then just give them the option to purchase the PDF. In the end, unless the Flash browser plug-in prevents itself being captured in screenshots, there is no way to prevent the content from being saved on the person's computer.

What Dangers Does Linux Face From Viruses/worms?
truefusion replied to The Simpleton's topic in Operating Systems
Java doesn't compile to machine code (if it did, i would have probably never considered C++). The chances of getting your Java program to run on a random computer are slim. The reason why Java can "compile once, run everywhere" is because Java is cross-platform—it was designed to work on multiple platforms, and therefore is available for multiple platforms. The program will run if executed if you have Java installed on the machine it is being executed in. Otherwise, no, it will not run. For a Windows program, since all basic Windows installations are the same, and because of the backwards compatibility that Microsoft tries to attain, if you build your program to use nothing more than what is provided in Windows, you wouldn't need to recompile your program or have the user install anything extra. However, this is only concerning dynamically-linked programs. A statically-linked program should be able to run on without anything extra being installed; albeit, statically linking your program may increase the file size of the program to an undesirable size. -
Who Is God just who or what is God to you?
truefusion replied to Echo_of_thunder's topic in Health & Fitness
That's only if you consider the topic title alone. If you bring in the sub-title, then you'll run into the words "to you," which removes the presupposition of an existing God as is normally described. The only reason i can think of for wanting to re-solve a problem would be merely for efficiency. Why else would someone attempt to solve a problem that is already solved? If the solution to a problem was merely wishful thinking, then, sure, it may not last forever. However, if it is truly a solution, calling it a belief is only rhetoric. While the Lord Jesus may have said "the truth shall set you free" (John 8:32), you will not find him stating such within a context that allows for practically other possibilities. As in the field of science, one need not see something to declare its existence; its effects in life is generally enough. -
What Dangers Does Linux Face From Viruses/worms?
truefusion replied to The Simpleton's topic in Operating Systems
Here is a built-in, self-inflicting command found in Linux: CONSOLE sudo rm -rf / Of course, the "virus" in this case would merely be the user running this command. I think the GNU website had a "tutorial" on how to install malware, but i can't remember. The web page, i think, was trying to argue that Linux isn't completely safe, nor that open-source programs are inherently safe. Generally, you can only harm your own files. Protecting the system is only really beneficial to servers, as losing the server is not the same as losing a few user files. But for desktop users, losing your personal files will always be more of a problem than losing system files. It should be noted that what they mean by "little to no defragging" is merely concerning performance. In Windows you defrag for performance mostly. But in Linux you don't need to defrag for performance. -
Through observation, i have come to the conclusion as to why (some) people can't take a hint. It all comes down to conflict of interest. This is apparent for both sides. But guys tend to seek logical explanations for things, to which we often find few to zero logical explanations for the opposite sex. Due to the fact that we are many times left to decipher things for ourselves, error or failure to figure out the opposite sex is often prevalent. Lack of communication only worsens things. After constant failures, we may by default start declaring things as "drama" and start showing apathy towards the opposite sex. It needn't be the case that the job to figure out the opposite sex should be left upon the male alone. Both should seek absolute understanding of the other where there is lack of understanding. However, i have to confess that although guys may seek logical explanations to things, many aren't necessarily good with logic. Nevertheless, what intelligence the person does have can still provide insight on the current situation, therefore possibly leading to a conclusion—even if it is the wrong conclusion. But it is not a wonder as to why many of us seek out smart women—where good looks would merely be a bonus. For those who take the time to find a mate using high standards, the relationship is bound to last (longer).

Who Is God just who or what is God to you?
truefusion replied to Echo_of_thunder's topic in Health & Fitness
The "issues" you believe that God being the Creator of all matter brings up can be easily done away with by assuming a definition of "creation" that is not limited to human "creation." In other words, don't place God on a human level. You use a definition for "creation" that assumes creation already existing. However, how can there be anything else in existence than God if God was the one that brought these things into existence? Your definition creates a paradox by excluding God being the Creator of matter. By assuming that "creation" means "bringing something into existence which didn't already exist" and using the word "manipulation" for human "creation," you can avoid a lot of problems, therefore making things logical. -

Aliens, definitely aliens. I was there when you went to the vet. I found it weird that my cellphone stopped functioning the moment you entered through the door with your cat; when you left, it was functioning again. When it started functioning again, that cleared all doubt from me. I've heard about these moments with cats. After you left, i asked the vet if they noticed anything out of the ordinary with your cat. He told me about things which i noticed too, like how it can rotate its head 360 degrees. I have heard that cats were flexible, but that is crazy. Also, from what i saw that the vet showed me was extraordinary. The vet withheld from showing you the x-rays, in fear of your life, lest the cats know that you know what we know. I left from the vet in search of information, more about these mysterious cats. I have found that them biting your arm isn't because they are being playful or anything of that sort, but because they are draining your life force. The chewing on your hair is merely to obtain information stored in your brain. It is also to make sure you keep taking care of them—a form of mind control. These cats seek world domination and won't let any other cat stand in their way, therefore the wrestling match you see so much from them. It is uncertain how much time you have left before they take full control of your body. The reason why they like your brother so much is because he's already been taken control of. They haven't taken full control over you yet, hence you are slightly burdened by them. But it's not too late: you can still overcome them! Be careful with them, they are watching.

The amount "earned" will practically always be bigger than the amount you have in the billing area. The reason this is, is because the one in the billing area takes into account the things you have purchased, et cetera, while the "earned" amount that you see in the forums only displays how much you have earned in total by posting here in the forums.Don't rely on the "earned" amount if you want to know exactly how much you have to spend.P.S. please use a font color that is easier to see. -
A virtual machine is a program that tries to emulate a computer. You can use virtual machines to test out other operating systems. Installing operating systems through this method tends to reduce the amount of time it takes to install an operating system, as you are not necessarily installing the operating system through a CD, as virtual machines tend to allow you to mount an ISO file as a CD to the virtual machine, therefore you would be installing the operating system from your hard drive which is faster than a CD drive. Virtual machines do not need another partition to work, as they create their own virtual partition on your hard drive (a specific file they read and write to). This spares you the inconvenience of partitioning any of your hard drives and from buying any new hard drives. Popular VMs are VirtualBox and VMWare, though there are others. I use VirtualBox and mostly for testing out any customized Linux distribution i tried to make.
