@ rajesh5575 Regarding developing mobile games. I was interested in that as it seemed to be a task which could be handled by a couple of like minded developers/designers and thats it. But in reality much of the potential revenue is greatly diminished because mobile games are easy to rip off and many games are offered online as free downloads without respect for the original authors. In my opinion Direct X is preferable to learn rather than OpenGL. Before, OpenGL had a good reputation for performing better, but lately Direct X is utilizing hardware much better and does seem to have more options for the developer to select from. Dont forget that you can use the blender engine for game development, here is an example of what is possible with it although it is OpenGL based- http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ In my opinion the capabilities this engine represents, is nothing to sneeze at. Regarding learning game developing/game designing if you want to be good try to stick to one camp if possible. Spreading yourself thin, will make it harder to develop strong skills. (remember that making a game is mulifaceted in required skill sets e.g level design, 3d designing, graphic design, illustration, quality control, script writing, A.I./pathfinding coding, 3d engine/physics coding, etc.... Depends how serious you "really" are). A good idea is for you to check out gamedev.net, here you'll get an excellent idea of all things related to creating games. Ive been looking at this site for almost ten years now and it surely must be one of the best resources on the net today (although its site designs seem to keep going backwards with each updated iteration). Regarding 3d modelling/animation that isn't a piece of cake either, it requires much "talent" to be quick enough to perform at production standards (i have some aquired some formal education in that area).

Why Do User Interfaces Always Say "welcome!"?
inverse_bloom replied to rob86's topic in Science and Technology
Using the word "welcome" seems to have become a tradition. Its like saying "Welcome to my world". You'd see countless websites in the mid to late 90's with the heading "Welcome to my hompage!". Its just a usability concern to include such a word (as many have mentioned before), its just an friendly indicator that the interface is there to serve your needs by greeting you.As for the word "welcome" it has a ring of appropriateness to it when you compare it to say maybe "Hello user im here to serve your needs" or "Mp3 loading and initialising" or "Version 1.32 of Mp3 exploder says hello". It doesnt seem peculiar to me because i studied interface design a while ago and haven't overlooked the reason for the word since then. -
Welcom lilcy, jump for joy because you have found one of the friendliest communities on the net! Whether you want to post to get website hosting, or just for fun im sure youll have fun here. Good luck!

I cant remember exactly the difference between the Ati HD4650 and Ati HD4670 bar for the fact my research indicated that if you have the money, the HD4670 is worth the extra bit (researched it 4 months ago). Regarding dedicated memory on video cards. What that does is "temporarily holds" the textures, 3d coordinates for depth and compiled shaders that are processed by the GPU on its way to being put up on screen. Regarding what you will need for your purposes (512/1024), typically what you do is consider if you are going to run your games at very high resolutions with high detail, in that case there is a possibility that you might want to go with more ram. But that is if the GPU is able to process quickly enough get good frame rates at those resolutions. Thats why higher end cards typically have more ram onboard to cater for that possibility. However on a mid range card like yours 512 is sufficient. Check this out - http://techreport.com/review/14230/how-much-graphics-memory-do-you-really-need/3 AGP is an older standard then the new PCI-express. Thus they cost more to purchase because they have little demand compared to PCI-e. For Radeons i dont think Ati makes anything beyond HD3650 for agp anyhow, because the cards were beginning to get slightly bottlenecked by the AGP standard at that point. Regarding RAM if you have the option always go for the quickest ram, i haven't checked up much in this area in the last year or so, but maybe DDR3 is finally quick enough to really warrant its extra expense. Of course you will need to get a 64 bit Amd chip if you want to utilise anything over 4 GB's of ram becuase that is the circumstances where higher amounts of ram will register. (Most Intels are still 32 bit, in which case 6 gigs wont register in the bios although the computer maybe fitted with it). In my opinion unless you are doing intense 3d rendering you wont utilize much more than 4-6 gig at the moment anyway. For your intended use, 6 gigs of quick good quality ram is ideal. Corsair immediately comes to mind. Actually i didnt realise it but Ati HD4890's are good price at the moment maybe that is "another" one you could consider - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Greetings My Fellow Forum-men, Greetings my fellow forum-men,
inverse_bloom replied to knoppixusr's topic in Introductions
I was going to try 000webhost a while ago, i guess i saved myself time by going straight to Xisto. Anyways welcome!, knoppix? Ive heard alot about it but that is one linux disto that i havn't tried yet. Right know im using freeBSD, puppy, and ubuntu on virtual box and VMware workstation for various reasons.I think you'll find Xisto to fit quite nicely with your needs. Good day to you. -
Ive used multiple version of linux with a Radeon 9600XT old, old card! Although I almost always got it working with whatever version of linux i was using at the time, but it didn't always come without headaches. If you are going to stick with just linux, nVidia maybe the way to go (im an ATI fan). If you dont mind delving into xorg configurations (linux command prompt) and such, maybe ATI is the way to go. Generally speaking over the years "ATI" is better value for any midrange budget you have alloted to the cause. Years ago it had a smoother way of rendering textures in games, whereas nVidia was more gritty but tended to punch out pixel fill rates (good for particles). Im not sure what the cards are like today. I agree the 4670 would be the card of my choice if i had the money, it would also be good for the sake of longevity. Good luck.

In my own way i believe in reincarnation, i believe the universe expands and folds in on itself resulting in a perpetual cycle of endless possibilities. So although we don't come come back as the "whole" embodiment of what we were once before, we do come back in some other configuration of matter and energy. I believe string theory provides our best standpoint on how things work. Unfortunately i haven't looked much into the subject thus far, but i agree with what i have heard. I don't know if they have tried to use the concept of "membranes" for the general dimensionality of the universe as a whole, but i suppose it doesn't matter. It seems likely to me that the universe would follow such a configuration, rather than a massive ball. (It would sort of go with the idea of a universe in an infinite variance which will implode, explode, clash and form into many, many possibilities).Thats where i got the idea for "inverse_bloom". A sort of warped imploding and expanding cycle forming new configurations of "us" into whatever. I wanna come back as president on the other side! Ok, enough sci fi from me

Hi i wondering who else wants to see this movie when it comes out? Apparently it comes out in America on Christmas Day. It comes out about mid February in Australia. From the previews it looks exciting!I've only read one novel with Sherlock Holmes in it, but it was so long ago i can barely remember it. Although, there was a series on tv quite a few years ago.Its gonna be really good i reckon, its probably going to be intense action.

Welcome armynavy123, well you should fit in well with your smilies on every single sentence. You play the PS3? you make me envious! Nah... actually i don't have the time for it usually. Anyway, you seem like you'll be an active member for a while, so welcome to you and have a nice day.

If your talking about game publisher then i choose UbiSoft. I don't know why, but they seem to have adventure games/experiences that i really get into. After that i'd probably select THQ, they have a good line up. I'm not sure what the question is, developer, publisher, console producer, all? You can't compare apples to oranges, except the fact that they are both fruits.

If you could squeeze a little more out of your budget i suggest something like this - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Otherwise something like this comes under budget for you - https://www.cnet.com/au/products/tdk-tremor-xa-10-speakers/preview/

I actually heard a high end HP laptop with a sub woofer underneath its chassis once. That was pretty awesome! I believe it was Harmon/Kardon throughout. The sub woofer had a little kick to it, but the midrange that came out was superb! When my friend told me he wanted to get that laptop, i said to him "Just tape sub woofer to the back of your screen". Ive always wondered if JBL speakers were any good now i know. Altec Lansing are apparently also good value for a good set of speakers. If people have deep pockets than a set of Edifier or a set of Axiom audio speakers may be the way to go.
-
I was wondering who else enjoys what their PC Speakers do for them? I purchased a set some time ago for about 30 U.S (Logitech speakers.) They're actually not bad considering their cheap price tag, i consider them to be one of those rare items where you really get a bargain.?I recognize that they aren't "excellent" quality, but sometimes they do surprise. Although their midrange is flat it doesn't matter to me because i listen to music with the EQ midrange set down a bit. Admittedly the bass is limited, but it actually surprises me how good it makes a movie sound. A sound like the bass of a falling fighter airplane whooshing past really does sound thrilling. Not too bad in my opinion.?I do have a pro-logic receiver but i don't really see why i would want to go to the trouble of setting it up.?

Yeah i know what you mean i chose not to include the Aurora because it is only speculative, most likely true though. There are a couple more as well (not just the Aurora) which are mentioned on the net but again, nothing definite. The X-15 was well known to reach space and then zoom back to earth again. http://acepilots.com/usaaf_yeager2.html It also reminds me of stories involving Chuck Yeager and one of his flights in the X1-A, which made it to space. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Did_chuck_yeagernto_outer_space Perhaps the fact that the famous test pilot Chuck Yeager is still alive would make a good thread in itself. Mmm... the SR-71 could never make it to space based on its engine type (jets which require air flow), but strap some rockets to a similar design yeah i'd like to see that day too.

Well its kinda true, depends on the person really. If they are willing to "leave" their feelings for a moment and just look at discovering a topic more fully then it is useful. Trust me the worksheet isn't just about making descions based on the final outcome of the sheet, but just "exploring" subject matter in a different way from what you are used to. I think you've got the wrong idea, im not suggesting doing it and using it as justification for your beliefs. By writing an equal amount of points in each column you get a much more balanced view and can then accomodate more rationality for what you hadn't previously realized. If you havn't undertaken a few earnestly with an open mind, than you couldnt know what i mean. It really shouldn't be compared with Pro's and Con's if you look at its explanation carefully. Please look at the credentials of the man who constructed this (Edward DeBono) he knows his stuff.

Personally i was more happy and content when i believed creationism to be valid. One good way "for anyone" to objectively analyze this topic and explore it more fully is through a PMI worksheet, if no one has already. Its a very simple tool but is surprisingly effective (that is if you go through it without bias and wholeheartedly). https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTED_05.htm It initially may seem lame but if you with hold yourself from "that" belief long enough, you list all your points in equally long long lists in the columns and categorize the level of importance or "validness" they mean to you. When you add them up at the end what is particularly interesting is the score that comes out. What you often find is your bias is shifted often to a much more grey area rather than the tendency towards black and white views. So for this topic you could start with the question "Which seems more valid Evolution or Creationism?" Its win/win really in my opinion, because if you still get the same result as before, at least you've looked at a topic steered in a more objective "exploratory" way and can justify it so. Ok, i better stop at that before someone picks holes with my precious PMI worksheets.

Mmm... yes i agree with ShadowX i dont believe creationism is much of a valid science. The fact that we now exist is only drawn from the possibilities available from the universe. I believe the universe itself morphs after each explosion and implosion (quite possibly along a membrane) resulting in new possibilities for life, if ofcourse all of the conditions are right in any given spot. As much as i would like to believe in Creationism (as it would give comfort) i just cant see it to be true. To a certain degree it does fit better in the question "How or why was the Universe created?". But how can we ever concretely understand something that isn't observable at all? That requires "belief" or extrapolations of what we "do" know. Like ShadowX mentioned i also believe in the validity of natural selection. i.e. future evolutions of animals develop better adaptations (or designs) to their surrounding environment. This i achieved by funneling out the bad designs in the manner ShadowX described above. For instance our species relies on social interactions to achieve goals otherwise unattainable. If i remember correctly there was another species a long time ago that shared many similarities to "H0mo sapiens" the main difference was they weren't sociable and therefore due to that characteristic didn't survive as a species. (as they didn't have the required adaption to continue). Thats partially why women are more selective then men when choosing their mates, they're using naturally preprogrammed behaviors which sift "out" males who wont reproduce strong/smart offspring. Which is arguably one of the prime purposes of our existence, like it or not we are set up that way.

I think life in an Igloo would be something different, I guess the first question that comes to mind is how hospitable would it be for 1 or more people to live in one? They must be at least -1C (30.2F) inside, which may not be so harsh if you have a thick woolen rug underneath and adequate clothing (and your body is conditioned to cooler temperatures). It makes me wonder if the rugged conditions reduce a person’s life expectancy. But then again it may not be as cold as one might think, as there is no moving air (if you plug up the hole). I would imagine it to be not such a bad life living in one; otherwise you’d expect Eskimo’s migrating closer to warmer climate areas. In a way there must be a sense of freedom one would get by constructing their own Igloo and taking a small bit of open land as their own dominion. They may have to rely on their skills to find food; it makes me wonder how difficult it would be for them to do so. Here is an unusual igloo hotel – Igloo Hotel pic 1 Igloo Hotel pic 2 Of course there are community sites which will contain a small cluster of Igloo’s. I also wonder at the structural integrity of an Igloo. Modern day Igloos are constructed with considerations for comfort. They can be setup up with an interlinking platform which will link up a few into an expedition camp. Here is a link – http://www.icewall.com.au/ I’ve actually seen these on TV, but the setting was much different. Instead of a snow environment these were set up in a rainforest type environment somewhere in Queensland, Australia. The Igloo’s were exactly the same and were winched up about 40 Metres, supported with some sort of high tensile wire and used as holiday getaways. Although I couldn’t find a picture of the setup I can at least give the setting- Rainforest 1 Rainforest 2 These Igloos don’t come cheap though, at least not from what I remember. Lastly what would you do if a polar bear shat on your Igloo door step? You may have the unenviable task of eating your way out! Actually you’d be surprised how close they actually “do” get, check this picture out - Polar bear says hello!

I’ve always looked at the SR 71 Blackbird in wonderment. It is still the fastest man driven (jet) powered aircraft in the world since the record was set in 1976. At that time it reached 2,193.16 mph (3,326.60 km/h) at Mach 3.3. Very Fast! The experimental (rocket) X15 was quicker at a speed of 4,520 mph (7,274) at Mach 6.72, it had a very limited flight range of 280 miles (450 km). http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ One can only wonder at how much it costs to maintain and operate these aircraft. The structural rigidity of the cross members between the two engines and along the long fuselage of the SR 71 is a marvel in itself. Look here is Jetfire from “Transformers 2” - https://s.yimg.com/pw/images/photo_unavailable.gif The Concorde is another amazing aircraft. Although a Russian passenger jet was actually recorded to go marginally faster than the Concorde, its operation was very short lived. The Concorde remained in service for almost 20 years until its demise in 2003 (not only due to the crash impacting reputation, but also financial reasons). The average cruising speed of the Concorde was 1,330 mph (2,140 km/h) at Mach 2.02. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The Russian MiG-25 is considered the fastest fighter jet in the world recorded at 2,110 Mph (3,390 Kph) Mach 3.2 (but it was very high, thus slower than the SR 71). https://gototheedge.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/mig-251.jpg Both the Russian MiG-25 and American SR 71 blackbird were developed in response to the cold war.

Chilled Monkey Brains... Anyone?

@ anwiis post 12 - Eww... yummy! The mexicans must have very diverse tastes. Either that or they like to play jokes on their customers. -
Im not sure... how are your eyes after an hours play? It sounds like the kind of complex open ended game ive been waiting for, for a very long time. Those ideas you mentioned would be great incorporated into a 3d game. The only game that i have played which comes close is "Gothic 2" or "Morrowind". Those two games are definitely in my top ten. Morrowind is such a worth while play for those who haven't played it, i should imagine it now retails for about 5 or so bucks in the U.S. Oblivion was just a dissapointment for me, no color, generally a flat experience in comparison to Morrowind.

Cheers for the links, by coincidence ive actually been looking at updating that section only today, so thats great. I particularly like the CSS link its got some great stuff to look at there. Regarding the look of my site i compare it with the best, keeps me modest and i become better skilled for it. :PRegarding your phone number issue, like FouGilang suggested i put my mobile in for that. It seemed to fit so i just went along with it.
