  1. Lol good one anwii, just be careful you don't flick any boogies in their hair or face, that could be too much of a challenge for anyone. Mmm... not sure how affective the gun prank would be as a determining factor, but it would make a good laugh! Maybe the test would be to see if they wont leave you after it! Lol
  2. If Arctic Silver 5 is anything like 4, I suggest thermal paste with thicker density then what that product provides. I had a 2400 Athlon XP and the compound would constantly run out towards the edges. Unfortunately thats the only stuff quickly available at my local stores, but yeah if you can get something a bit more expensive and thicker thats what I'd do to save you from a potential headache. The Ceramique product made by the same company might be the way to go, but ive had no experience with it. Heres a link - http://www.arcticsilver.com/ceramique.htm
  3. No problems for me, i was thinking of using MS office anyway, it'll save a little bit of time too.
  4. Hey all, I've updated the site and it can be found at the same location - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Im still yet to look at peoples suggestions till xisto gives an indication why my .htacess file is having no affect on the site. However there is something else i can pick your brains for in the meantime. Basicly in the wp admin panel ive installed a plug-in that redirects a "blog" link away from the blog page to - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (The newly created page was a place holder) Its a basic redirect that i needed because i constructed my menu links through the "new pages" on the admin panel. How would that go with SEO? For all other links e.g home, portfolio, tutorials etc... they will all link to proper pages determined by permalinks. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Also another thing when i edit my pre-existing pages in word press to contain the same content as the static html pages, do i add most information into those pages leaving out the meta data? If so does word press handle keywords adequately by itself? Thanks.
  5. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. After contacting xisto they suggested i put the word press install in a subdirectory, after doing that it began working as expected! - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Regarding softaculous and fantistico, apparently that isnt available for windows hosting which im actually on. Instead you get "easy apps" which allows you to create a database config file for your chosen CMS. Thank you all for your suggestions, its been an effective learning experience me going through this process the last few days (most of my training was in the web 1.0 era). Ill implement your suggestions and tell you how i go, thanks.
  6. Hey playing drums is fun, well i could only play parts of 2 songs to be honest. One of the songs was a minute into "Nirvana: Aneurysm". You should try to learn that one it good fun. Regarding your drum sticks, well i was taught to hold them like you'd throw them across the room.Does it feel different to play on an electronic drum kit compared to a conventional kit i wonder? Id expect it wouldnt have as much kick back.
  7. Thanks everyone for the advise, yeah ill wait a while. The kindle did look pretty good and a large size too, but kind of expensive for what it is, i mean for the same price you can get a good quality net book. I know they don't perform the same function but they also greatly differ on value for money by the sounds of things. I'll wait a year or so.
  8. Hi i've been wondering for those who have tried them, how good are e-book readers? Although they still seem somewhat expensive, i think the convenience they offer would provide good value. For instance i read a heck a lot of e-books and for me, having it conveniently tucked away in a bag, ready for when its needed, is quite alluring. But i'm also just wondering what peoples opinions are on the price of these devices. Here is a relatively cheap one which looks better value then some others currently available - http://gizmodo.com/5422046/alurateks-179-lcd-based-libre-ebook-reader-goes-cheap
  9. Thanks Mahesh, your right about thematic it is surprisingly similar to my own and sound like it will be quick to configure. Here is a link i found which has provides some resources to aid with thematic development - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ What i found particularly interesting was the link to "Thematic Page Structure – Blue Mandala" which gives a quick lowdown from an info graphic. Regarding my static pages vs the blog pages, well yes they will do have very similar content and your right the fact that a SE might interpret that as duplicate content is a concern. I've just downloaded 10 or so pages on the topic of trying to get word press to work seamlessly with pre-existing static pages with SEO. I'll give an update on how i go. Thanks.
  10. Yeah I'm another long time GTA fan. Although i often got frustrated with the difficulty level in GTA 1 and 2 levels. (I'm one of those players who appreciates the experience more than the challenge, for instance i think Myst URU is cool). GTA 3 is actually the last one i have played i went from 1, to 2, to vice city then finally to 3 (although i haven't tried GTA 4 yet). GTA 3 is actually interesting in the way when it hits night time in the a game, it really does look like night time (light intensity becomes very low, probably at the expense of game play a little, but its still cool!). I agree with one of the posts above when they mention Vice City has the best story line of the series from what i have played so far.
  11. Thanks for the tips, mahesh. Okey pokey, i've just got up to speed on what .htaccess is and also its general usage. At this point i just want to see it working at a basic level, before i change "permalinks" in Wordpress. Though i having troubles even achieving that, as it doesn't appear to be working. This link shows what htaccess currently contains - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (I transferred the file to my server http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ in "ascii" mode and i also renamed it to .htaccess what you see there is another copy) I'm getting no joy when i try to invoke a 404 error by typing "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; or whatever. I wanna see my funny messages! So regarding having my pre-existing HTML pages alongside a Wordpress installation, would anyone know what kind of implications that would have on SEO? (especially if I create an XML site map through - https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ ?) I might have to start bugging Google for information soon, .
  12. Thanks guys for replying. Regarding the .htaccess file i cant even find where that is, i presume that is meant to be in the inversebloom.com/ directory because if it is i must have deleted it. As humbling as it sounds, i don't really know what that is about or how to restore it. I presume you make a txt file and renamed .htaccess but im not sure about what the default settings should be. That is probably what is upsetting word press at the moment hey? because that is the only thing i can identify which is missing or seems strange. I've messaged Xisto regarding my wordpress issue + the missing .htaccess file and also the absence of Softaculous or Fantastico in my control panel.Regarding mahesh's comments regarding keywords in the URL in post 7, i also have "weblinks.htm", "tutorials_web_design.htm" among other links with the "html" keyword contained with in them. Would it be advisable to change the names of those pages as well, or just anything that contains "html" in its name? When you mentioned "Change it to: %postname.htm" in post 7, did you mean something like "%portfolio_1.htm" or could i simply get away with something like "portfolio_1.htm". One of my main concerns was how SEO would be affected by popping a word press install alongside with my pre existing HTML pages and having it linked together. My plan was to install word press and change "index.php" to "blog.php" and cross my fingers that it was OK for SEO, Lol. But i have been wondering today if i should be using plugins to extend word press to the point where it can operate as a CMS and plop my pre-existing HTML content into word press for the sake of consistency between links. Would that be as easy as i have made it sound, would it be necessary? To throw some further complication i was planning to put in an .xml sitemap for Google, by using a generator site to trace through everything and create a site map after each post to my blog. Would that be inadvisable?Regarding Baniboy's post 6, thanks for the kind comments. That RSS button contained on the page wasn't created by me. Actually i have been thinking of creating those sorts of buttons for the site in the past, but due to the lack of content on my site, it never really necessitated the need for me to do it. Regarding those links yeah i know their a bit of a mess at the moment but only till i manage a successful install of word press which seems to becoming an epic endeavor!Regarding moving the blog to a subdirectory, yeah will do if i don't need to amalgamate the content contained in HTML files into a word press CMS for proper SEO. Regarding you php code, would it be correct to put that the proper locations in index.php? I really need to start learning PHP i reckon, besides Maya 3D's PHP like language to make polygon primitives bounce around on screen and cause collisions. Actually i do have a small idea of the syntax, i have no idea what the workings of wp_head() function does (or what a head thingy means to word press, lol).Regarding your design comment Baniboy, its not entirely about being visually creative which leads to good results. If you learn the history of art/design + elements/principles/methods/theories/thought processes, then your chances of coming up with something good is greatly increased (although arriving at such level obviously takes some investment of time and effort but you can do it ).Plus i'll help you should you ever ask for it and you're really not that bad anyway (you've got skill judging on your recent template designs ). Regarding what i will base my blog on, i guess anything that sells and attracts visitors. Though it will mostly be web design tips i'll probably diverge into music reviews because i looove music.
  13. Actually as it turns out that error was due to my permalinks option being switched away from default. But having it back on default still doesnt get good results, now when i click on "comments" for example it doesnt take me to a screen where i can add comments to a blog. Gawd... admin tasks.
  14. Actually i've heard people mention "softaculous and fantastico" before, i have the basic 2 dollar plan are those accessible somewhere on my cpanel? I have a link entitled "easy apps" ?I retried the installation through filezilla. After a successful install (successfully created wp-config) i get the following error when i try to navigate my blog in any depth -CGI ErrorThe specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. This is from a fresh installation with out any other modifications or plugins.
  15. Actually that reminds me of some of the things past Australian radio host Mick Molloy used to get up to. Nothing to do with Christmas though, on one show he pretends he's smoking a bong and it just gets funnier and funnier, the other host on the other end does what he can to not slip into a fit of laughter. There were 2 standout CD's put out of radio segment recordings with Mick Malloy one entitled "poop chute" and the more popular "eat your peas" from the mid 90's. But i cant remember what "that" particular segment was called. Very, very funny guy when he gets in his zone.
  16. For me i seem to have short period where i can make an edit after i have created a post. If i neglect to do so then i miss the opportunity. (Its only been like that since yesterday for me)
  17. Nah only kidding! actually that was my first thought though. Really 83? that "is" rather old i thought he was a least 20 years younger. As soon as i see him on T.V i automatically tune it out, its almost like an instinctive reaction. I guess the previous one cruising around in his buggy thing held little entertainment value for me, to be honest id rather switch channels and watch starwars or something....
  18. @ baniboys post 6 Actually beauty is a little more than just subjective evaluation by an individual. The proportions set out in the Golden Ratio has long been considered the ideal way to construct paintings and designs as it closely resembles the mathematical proportions generally demonstrated by nature. Check out "Luca Pacioli's, De Divina Proportione" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio For instance DaVinci created his painting works based on this proportion and although Van Gogh never actually set out for the Golden Proportion, in his illustrations it was shown that when he first started his pencil sketches they were far "off" Golden Proportion, but after two years of development as an artist his sketches had become "very" close to those proportions. Some researches did a study on Elizabeth Hurley and what they found were the proportions of her face closely resembled that of the rules set out in the Golden Proportion. This includes the proportion of body parts to each other not just facial aspects. Likewise the Fibonacci sequence is another example which illustrates the concept of perfectness contained in nature and art/design. After saying all that though, there is still some debate about Golden proportions which questions "how much" importance we should place on it being an "ultimate" truth to follow. But it is a concept that has been generally accepted since the renaissance period. Although your right some people find different proportions attractive such as the variations on the figure of the opposite sex. To some degree the utilization of an active right part of the brain determines how we perceive things to be beautiful. For instance an artist will see beauty in more things natural than another who has formed rigid visual memories of what things "should" look like, which will influence how they actually perceive something. Regarding the question of variation of IQ intelligence amongst races i imagine it to be true, but a negligible difference. Id be interested to see how the scientist formed their findings as their research would have have to reduce socio/environmental factors out of their results. For instance cultural influences such as a racial society who predominately listens to too much "rap" music may be find there IQ drop a couple of points. But i agree with everyone so far that intelligence can be gauged in many ways that its too hard to tell. For instance to many, intelligence means the mental resources to survive and flourish, others may believe it is a persons ability to properly utilize their "whole" capacity. Their are too many variables on this subject to form an objective conclusion that represents intelligence as a whole.
  19. Hi, ive just put Word press into my existing html site, only thing is for some reason it isnt working right... As far as i know their is no problems with user permissions through the wordpress admin section so im a little confused. The design has been retrofitted from another design into a format that suits my site. I did this with little knowledge of the underlying structure of wordpress and even php. I know that i killed the orginal footer in the process. Although the skin works fine on my localhost through xampp. Its getting a little late for me now but if you click a link on this page - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It returns a cgi error. Ill write more about this tmoro if anyone is interested in helping thanks.
  20. In my language it would be "Merry Christmas my lunatic Neighbors, has anyone been shot this morning?". I don't like where i live.
  21. I thought id share my interest in RC toys. Every christmas i guess it gives us an opportunity to think about what we would "like" to receive as a gift, but never actually do. Ive always been fascinated by remote control toys. In my mid teens i purchased an electric radio control car but it was rather slow compared to what i was after. It reached about 45 kph (roughly 28 mph) which wasnt too bad i guess, but it was no good for competition as i had tried that out. My model was the electric Tamiya "Madcap" - https://s.yimg.com/pw/images/photo_unavailable.gif Which was the next tier model up from the famous Tamiya Hornet (at least famous in the mid 90's). Though it wasnt fast for racing, it had an excellent tendency to do burn outs which was fun (and expensive). Here is a link to RC truck crawlers they look like they be a bit of fun - http://www.rccrawler.com/ Here is a short video link to an RC jet fighter taking off, in flight and then finally crashing into a thick patch of grass - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is cool, here is a video link to an enormous RC SR-71 Blackbird model jet, i saw one on display in a local museum recently which was 2/3's the size of the one in this video (The video is interesting up to the point where he finishes starting it up, in flight you can only gauge its relative speed by comparing it against clouds, which doesnt give much of an idea) - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  22. Only in Japan, is all i can say. If you did that in Australia you'd be an automatic out cast and would never here the end of it. Apparently the marriage was performed by a real priest but wasn't legally binding. He had a DJ at the wedding and some slides of the two together to demonstrate how stupid he is. She'll have to corrupt herself to get away from him! They could join the circus together and make people laugh! LOL
  23. The OCZ part of the description above is most probably the power supply unit. The NZXT part is the case, though i wouldn't count on it being too fancy as that is usually where cost savings for a comp are drawn from. Here is a link to the case i believe you "might: get (the "Guardian 921")- http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Or maybe the NZXT gamma - http://legitreviews.com/images/news/2009/nzxt_gamma_case.jpg If you Google NZXT and look at their images you get a good idea the range they have.
