  1. Well, to be exact, the term "Hacker" is supposed to be used for someone good. Someone who works for, and pen-tests company network systems. A "Cracker" is someone who uses hacking skills for bad (Deleting files, crashing system, etc..) But the general public is ignorant to this and believes Hackers are the bad ones, and that no good hacker exists.Another terminology is "hat hackers"A white hat hacker - finds security holes and reports themA black-hat hacker - finds security holes, and destroys/steals dataA grey hat hacker - finds security holes, may put a back door, or steal data, THEN report the hole. But like I said, this doesn't exist to the public. Their view: Hackers = Evil
  2. This is a tutorial on dual booting. For the purpose of simplicity, I will be describing how-to dual boot Windows and Linux, assuming you already have Windows installed. But linux users fear not! For it is quite simple to reverse this to start with Linux. Enjoy. ======================================= O.K. First things first. Back-up your files. Anything you don't want to lose. Because I have personally lost my entire drive before. Do be a victom of loss of data. Two back-up utilities are,: * AutoSave Essentials * StuffIt Deluxe 12 Now, I have personally never used them, but they are supposed to be good. They cost money, so if you have it, get down on these. If you don't have money, look for a freeware tool, I'm sure these something. (Or you could look for *cough* torrent *cough*) lol. So back up your drive or important files, or whatever. If you don't want to back-up your files, that's on you. I accept NO responsabilty for data loss. You have been warned. ======================================= Now, assuming you already have windows on your computer: *Windows XP & Vista: We will start by disabling the pagefile, because it is unmovable. So, Open the Start Menu and go to Control Panel. Then click on the System icon and select the Advanced tab. Under Performance, click Settings and go to Advanced. Under Virtual Memory, click Change, and Select No Paging File and then click Set. then click OK in all the menus. Now Restart. Now run a defragment. Start>Programs>accesories>system tools>defrag. I personally run it three times To move all files as close to the front as possable. Next. download the GParted live cd here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php GParted is a free linux distro live cd, made for the sole purpose of Disk Management. Once it downloads, burn the .iso to a cd, using Nero, Alcohol, or whatever you use. Turn off the computer And starou may have to change your BIOS settings. When it loads, start gparted (on the desktop) Select your drive, and shrink it to your desired amount. then create a Linus partition in the empty space, leaving room for swap (double your amount of ram). Format the linux to Ext2, and the swap to Linux Swap. Run these jobs, and when they finish, reboot with your linux disk that your installing. Now install your Linux in the partition we just made for it. When that finishes, restart the computer, with no disk in drive. It should boot right to Linux. You may be thinking, "What the hell happened to windows???", fear not, it will be back soon. (but who would want that?, lol) Open a shell, and type: cd /etc sudo -e lilo.conf Now, using the arrow keys, scroll to the bottom. You should see: # Linux bootable partition config begins image = /boot/vmlinuz root = Linux label = Linux read-only # Linux bootable partition config ends now below that, add: # Windows bootable partition config begins other = /dev/sda2 (or whatever yours is) label = Windows table = /dev/sda (or whatever yours is) # Windows bootable partition config ends now, to save it, press F2, hit enter, then press F10 now type in shell: /sbin/lilo -v Restart. If everything went OK, you should get an OS selection screen when you start the computer. Boot to each one to make sure they work, and boom! You now have a dual-booted computer. Last step: Use linux, and realize that windows sucks, and you should get rid of it! lol. Peace, CeM-ReC.
  3. well, every time i've dual booted, i've always already had windows, then installed linux second, but i stil know how to do it. First, you want to repartition fedora. I recommend Gparted (googlie it) it's a free live linux distro, made for the sole purpose of drive partioning. download it, burn it, and boot it. now, select your drive, and you want to shrink the partition, down to your desired amount for fedora (i believe you said 200gb) if everything goes as planned, create a new partition on the 100gb space you made (dont format it) now reboot and go back into fedora and you wanna edit your lilo (if you're using that for your boot manager) goto lilo.conf and edit it boot = /dev/sdaprompttimeout = 20default=linux# linuximage = /boot/vmlinuzroot = current label = fedoraread-write## windowsother = /dev/sda2 (or whatever your's is)label = winxp#when your done changing it, run lilo -v to save it I think this is pretty much it, this will default to linux after 20 seconds, but of course you can change the time and default respectively to what you prefer. then install windows. everything should be fine, but if something doesn't work, let me know. good luck. BTW: Very good idea, as you said, to back everything up! I've messed up badly by not doing that before.
  4. I think he's refering to, like, T1 and T3 connections. And if thats the case, T1 (and even more-so T3) are much faster, and broadband, cable, and especially dial-up.
  5. Well, Name-brand/generic food wise, It all depends. Some foods are perfectly fine generic, even better! However, others, I have to buy the brand name, and accept no imitations. So like I said, it all depends.
  6. I recently took two IQ tests online. The first I achieved a score of 142. The second, from a different website, very similar test, taken about fifteen minutes later, I scored a 138. Is this normal that someone's scores can fluctuate like that being so close together? Or is it only a relative or approximate score?
  7. I haven't had the problem, but may I suggest updating the drivers? Because that can usually fix strange problems like that. (Vista sucks for drivers) Either it's a generic windows driver (then get the Tsstcorp driver) or it's just an outdated Tsstcorp driver (get the newest one), and if those don't work, try the previous version of the driver (If its tsstcorp-cddvd-rw-00.0.2, try tsstcorp-cddvd-rw-00.0.1) Just check it's driver in the device manager, then google for the above metioned possible solutions. Good Luck!
  8. I had the same problem a while back as well. Turns out my power supply was shorted out. Bought a new one, replaced it, and BAM! No more pesky, restarting and what not when I turn my computer on.
  9. Well, on my laptop I have Windows XP Pro (NTFS), Linux Back|tracK 3 (XST2), and Linux Swap, thus, 3 different file systems. I of course didn't want to pay for a program (who does?), as I have never payed a penny for anything online before. So, I found GParted (Google It.) It is a free, online, downloadable flavor of Linux, made for the sole purpose of formating, partitioning, and writning files systems. So download it, burn it, and boot it. Gparted will load automatically, and within minutes, I had formated the drive, selected the partionion sizes, and they're file systems, and was starting the event (which only took a few minutes!) And everything turned out perfect. I recommend it as a good, free alternative to anything else.
  10. Are you trying to copy an exact of the master to slave, or just certain files? Because you can just copy what ever files to the slave. Then reinstall windows on master, then copy files back from slave to master. OR change jumper settings to switch the to visa-versa, then install windows on the (original slave) now master, then copy your files from (original master) now slave. Or, maybe I'm mistaken on what it is exactly you are trying to accomplish?
  11. The internet providing hack tools (and crack tools) is a lot like shops selling guns. It can be good, i.e. hunting and self defense, as well as bad, like robbing and killing. It all depends on the hands of which the tools fall into.
  12. Hey man, sorry about the referall link. Totally forgot, cause I always use it in other forums. So, my bad.

  13. sudo doesnt work for me (BT3) i have to use: CONSOLE bt ~ # su -e ./make install
  14. Back|tracK 3 is a beautiful thing. I use it as my main OS. and it's VERY functional for.....penetration testing...hehe.. For those interested in BT3
  15. does it show up in iwconfig or ifconfig?
  16. Yea, I tryed to post a tutorial on penatration testing of your wireless router using backtrack 3, and it wasn't approved because it was considered "hacking". But penetration testing is a real and great carreer! It's also refered to as a "Certified Ethical Hacker". Companies hire you to find security holes in their system and tell them how to fix it. My post was to bring the MANY flaws of WEP (wired equivelent protection (ha)) to their attention. I can crack a wep key in 25 minutes at best, some people can do it in 5! all with free programs online! Which is why people should use WPA (still crackable, but much more difficult). Your ISP can even disconnect your service because of somebody using your wifi signal because it is a violation of all ISP's ToS (Terms of Service). And what better way to teach people, than through example! I mean, it'll hit you pretty quick when a person realizes that they can crack they;re router in a half hour! So that being said, WIFI USERS BEWARE! And to whoever denied my wep topic...ur mean.
  17. And for my fellow linux users, may I recommend: ffmpeg. It's freeware, avalible online via SVN, downloads and installs quickly. I've only been using it for about a month. You can convet almost any video format to another. It's command line options are a little complex, but once you figure it all out, its pretty good. I origianlly used it to convert .flv videos (like from youtube) to .avi and .mpg . It's a little buggy though, and certain videos will not convert to certain types. for example: I usually convert .flv's to .mpg's, however, once and a while when I try to convert a video, it will give an error, so then i convert to to .avi, and it works fine. It's command line interface, set up like: CONSOLE ffmpeg -i video.flv video.aviWhich would convert my flv to avi. You can also choose many, many options, for audio, resolution, and more. I highly recommend it.
  18. I have dejavu quite often, but there was one particular one i will never forget. I was one the computer, and three of my friends were over. We were watching a movie, spiderman to be exact, and my guy dave said, "yo throw me a can of pop" , and instantly i had dejavu of that, but it was still happening! I remembered every little thing that was happening. And before it happened, I remembered someone hit the remote on the floor and turned off the T.V. , and to my suprise, my friend tim fell off the bed....and landed on the remote! I was amazed! I accually knew what was going to happen for a few seconds before it did! It's never happened before that or since then, but wow.
  19. I originally belived time travel could be possible, but think about this: If, in the future, we figure it out. Wouldn't we have some type of evidence of someone in the future coming back to now? I mean, think about it! Lets say, in...2100, they figure out how to send a person back in time. Wouldn't they come back to now and be like, "Ha! We got it!" Maybe even tell us how? Or If something bad happens, or somebody does something dumb (*cough* nukes *cough*) They could wrn us! I mean, if you look at time as a linear, people 500,000 years from now STILL havent figured it out, because I'm sure they would've cam back to now. (unless our time just sucks) OR! Earth didn't even make it that far in time, cause the rate we're going, we're gonna blow this baby up! Or kill each other, whatever comes first. This is why I don't quite believe in time travel.
  20. i post links to things on forums to get clicks. im almost to another 5 bucks. like, most are porn. like i find a video, link it, then post it in a porn forum, get a couple hunderd or thousand clicks. and to the guy who said he gets 1$ per click. thats bs. id have over 15 grand right now if that was true. and no i dont have a website...yet...lol.and yes, i accualy got the money, they sent it to me via paypal.
  21. I saw a lot of videos and articals on that. I wonder how useful they could really be, and how much more lazy they can make people. Or when they'll be avalible at an affordable price.
  22. Linkbucks is a site where you enter a link, and it covents it into a "linkbucks" link. You can choose to have different ad types, either intermission for 15 seconds, pop-up, or top banner, you get $1.00 for every 2000 clicks. They pay to paypal and alertpay instantly. It's absolutly free to sign up, no credit card or anything. You can request payment after you reach $5.00. I have been paid $5.00 already, and am about to get another. I've tried so many "Get money online websites, this is the only one i use. No scams or anything. I highly reconmend it!

  24. Yea, I drink about 2-3 2 liters of coca-cola a day. I get really bad headaches If I don't. But I don't get any energy from them, probably because my body is so used to it, it like just expects it now. I'm not really trying to quit it.
  25. Tons of ATM's in the NYC metro area. The bank automatically assigns you with a large credit limit if your credit is in good standing even if you don't want it. This is annnoying because you have call and shut it down if you don't require it. It's clearly a method of creating revenue from borrower's interest payments. Also, there are steep fees for bounced checks, in the order of $78.00. This is a fee generating bank, so if you are only concerned with having access to multiple ATM's and don't mind paying fees, you'll be alright. If you require customer service and do not like being swindled by auto generated fees, it's not for you.
