  1. Yes.The difference between speculating and gambling would be a thin line. When people do their 'gambling' they always look for the jackpot, and it seems once they do win this modest jackpot, they don't even consider how much money they lost previously trying to win other jackpots. When I ask them, it's always unanimous that overall they've lost money. So why do they bother? They simply don't put any thought into it whatsoever. A recipe for disaster really. As they say, moderation in everything is best. Some people though, just don't have this capability.
  2. I feel it's too bad that animals have to be put to sleep. This past summer on a rather cool night, I found this baby sparrow outside on the road, nearlylifeless. Anyway, I took it home and began feeding it from a dropper. Mostly eggs and crushed vegetables. Soon after though, I read that it's a felony to keep a wild animal animal in your possession. The thing is these birds have to be fed about every 15 minutes, so my only option wouldof been to carry it around in a small cage and feed it, since I couldn't be at home all the time. This was basically impossible, considering that it's a felony though, I thought the best thing to do would be to take it to the Toronto humane society. I thought it was rather a cold attitude of the humane society all considered, when I asked if Icould find out how the bird was doing. They basically told me don't be ridiculous. In light of the charges of animal cruelty given recently to the Toronto humane society I really regret taking this bird there.I gave this little bird the name "Rex". Long may it fly.
  3. This is just my views of what some people call an addiction. Namely gambling or whatever you want to call it.I'd rather call my own dabbling speculating if anything.I was thinking about what actually constitutes gambling. Surely the stock market isn't gambling. There is a certain series of factors and events that people see as predictable, and therefore in theircontrol. The same thing can be said really as regards sports betting. If you know a team is a huge favorite, and are sure to win against an inferior team, then this is also pretty predictable, and hardlyleft up to chance really. I have my own methods, but these I would rather keep to myself, and after all, nobody should condone sports betting or gambling. Let people come to their own conclusions. The way I see it, gambling is the act of throwing away your money on a lottery ticket where there is more chance of you being hit by lightening than winning it. Also, laying money on a roulette wheel at the casino is another random act of just throwing away money. On these last two mentioned forms of 'gambling' one has no control whatsoever. Very depressing the way I see it. Very foolish. Why do people put up with this foolishness? How can such abhorrent bs be addictive?I couldn't tell you why. I wasn't born with the gene that gives me a thrill from winning a few dollars, though mostly losing them on random airhead lotteries. To summarize : I'm against gambling, but not against controlled speculation, and there is a difference.
  4. I"ve had enough of the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witness. They are are always predicting some great catastrophe or the end of the world and it never happens. Not only that, they think they can just walk up to you, or knock on your door pushing thebooklets they have, and if you don't want one of them they have no time for you. I believe that God is a nice, normal type who appreciates civility, even if it's just small talk about the weather, rather than pressing this propaganda on people.
  5. I don't think the signature is about the homeless. I think it's conveying that people who aren't quite normal and predictable are often the most interesting.
  6. I saw an old video of her in some band she played in a few years ago.She is really talented. You can really tell how talented somebody isseeing them in a small club environment like that. She is a real musician.Too often the real talent gets lost in the "show" but she's alright.I'd take her any day over Britney Spears.
  7. My Wanderers fired manager Gary Megson today. He was tactically inept. Not only that butI don't think the players had any faith in him at all, let alone the supporters. It was a horrible thingto suffer especially as of late. Yesterday being 2-0 ahead of Hull, and still ended up drawing 2-2. Megson should of replaced klasnic with Ricardo Gardner instead of McCann. For a team that has no clean sheets at all this season, when we are winning we shouldn't fallback into a defensive box. This has happened time and time again, match after match. We were leading Manchester city 3 times a few weeks ago and still ended up drawing 3-3. Let's see Bolton regain the glory again and put fear into teams such as Chelsea, Manchester Unitedand everybody else. Just like it used to be. Must bring in a really good new manager.
  8. Somehow I've never used the CGI folder or had any use for it. The thing is I've always set read/write permissions in c-panel anyway(for example 0777 for full permissions) , which appears to be the same thing anyway, without needing a CGI folder. Also, if somebody could hack into your system why couldn't they just delete the contents of the CGI folder anyway? Perhaps perl users would know more and have the full answers.
  9. Some of my friends work in construction and they said they never use Black and Decker.Apparently the tools don't have the robustness and toughness to last through repetitive, constant use.I think Black and Decker is mainly meant for the occasional home user anyway.I'm not cutting them down but I don't think they are regarded as fully "professional". It's too bad the thing broke just after your warranty ran out. At least with a new purchase you canget a new warranty. Better luck next time.
  10. It would be nice to see all wild animals living back in the with again, but in all cases obviouslyit's not feasible. There are poachers and such for one thing. One thing that could be done more thoughis have captive animals living in an environment that emulates the true wild. What's interesting is I found out the otherday that one of the first zoos to do this kind of thing was the Chester zoo in the u.k.Probably my favorite zoo. Captivity or not, I think the biggest concern is the survival numbers of these wild beasts. The main priority shouldbe stopping the poachers and education. Give the stiffest criminal penalties possible to these poachers, and also educate the dufasses who think thativory and tiger organs are aphrodisiacs and have magic powers.
  11. I play a little. I know the blues scale pretty good. With a harmonica in C you'd play a blues run in G.That's how it works with it. For example, with a D harmonica, you'd play a blues run in A.I've never really been interested in picking out melodies on the harmonica, only improvising. I much rather enjoy playing guitar. They are much too expensive as well, considering you can go through them in a few hours if you're not careful.A Lee Oscar or Hohner harmonica will cost about 40 dollars.
  12. 32 is young to die of a heart attack. It just goes to show you that age doesn't mean anything."King of the hill" was probably my favorite t.v program. She did a great job on that. Shereally had a unique voice. I don't know how they'll replace her.My deepest sympathies.
  13. A lot of good things come from technology, but at the same time it does alienate people. The other day I wanted a coffee, and had no choice really but to go in a starbucks, sinceit was the only place around. I'd rather not go in starbucks. The coffee isn't very goodanyway. The place had it's usual cold generic setup, and not only that, but it was full of peoplelooking directly into laptops, all in their own world. It's sort of disturbing. I'm sure most of these people haveinternet access at home, and yet they can't leave the computers alone. There they are stuck intheir own world with no interaction between each other. Total alienation. We are a society of geeks now.People walking around with ipods on all the time, yet not supporting music at all at the local level.People living terminally through blackberries, never leaving them alone for very long it seems. Why are people so fascinated by which crappy sell phone they use? I've been using them as long as anybody, but rarely carry mine around. Technology is really making people super superficial. Really shallow.Yes. It's alienated people. Makes me laugh.
  14. Thanks for listening to it. I only recorded this little snippet, to test my new soundcard, so I really didn't go into detail. It's just something that was knocked off quick. You're right, the bass is to the left, just to be different. As far as the BOSS BR-600, I bought one of those when they first began making them in 2004. I just ended up bouncing everything from that directly to computer, so thought why bother with it, when I could just record directly to computer. I do miss some of it's sound effects, and emulators though. It has a nice built in mike, really good for vocals. You could use it live, without any guitar amp, just going directly into the p.a. I wish I hadn't sold it.
  15. This is a short instrumental I wrote and recorded the other day. It took me about an hour. I programmed a basic drum beat and did the guitars and the bass really quickly. If anybody wants to listen to it : Click here!
  16. I just think of winter as being 4 horrible months to get through. We're halfway through the first one, then come the two reallyhorrible ones(January,February). March is the month I alwaysanticipate and wait for the spring, feeling it's not that muchmore of a wait. Then in April and May there is tons of rain, and then often, incredibly humidhot weather in July and August. September is the only month that is consistentlygood here. October and November are full of rain too. Some places just have bad weather just about year round really.
  17. Perhaps it's ironic and sad enough that perhaps this thread actually should be under the technology thread the way things are going. Too much in studio digital tweaking of vocals is done, too much lip syncing is done in live performance. Real singing matters less and less. Take Britney Spears for example. Quite a sham, but people are buying it. I can't think of too many people less musical than her. She's alright to look at, but even as far as that goes there's much better, much sexier, much prettier, and I suspect, much less visually digitally enhanced also. It's so Orwellian. People know they are being given a lie, a no talent zero, yet they suck it up. A far as best singer goes? I don't think it's worth debating. People only hear a tiny fraction of the music that is out there and they want to tell you who is best. As far as who is the best, you probably won't hear them on a radio station or see them on mtv any way.
  18. That's a major fire hazard too. Not only that, but all those shelves which are on top of that cement balcony just waiting to fall down on people, and garbage strewn walkways! They wouldn't get away with that where I live.Surely the landlords of the building would do something about that, and if not then thehealth and safety officials.
  19. I think your questions just a little general.I guess there's a lot of variations on this. Someone could probablysurvive three days without water out in the hot sun and then survive four days without waterstanding in the pouring rain.lol Don't forget also, a lot of food contains water, so if somebody had no water, but some food, including something such as oranges lets say, which contain a lot of water, he could survive longer without actually having any water so to speakI think a better title for this thread would of been "How long can someone survive without food and waterin a dry, moderate climate?". Really though, it's such an unlikely scenario for all of us on trap 17 that this thread might as wellof been called "Do you enjoy chewing gum while standing on your head?". I mean, where there are computersthen surely there must be a water source close by somewhere. It must be a nightmare for those who get lost at sea though.
  20. Some people insist that George Best was the greatest player toever play. Others insist it's Marco van Basten, who I saw play myself. The thing about Pele and the Brazilian players is that they were apparentlycompletely unique in their technique. They were apparently the first ever players to use over the head kicks andkick from the side of the foot and such. Because of this perhaps Peleshould be considered the greatest.
  21. You know what's interesting?. As far as this goes, the Roman's would of had a primitive but ingenious method of getting messages quickly over a long distance : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I just discovered this today. Who knows what other methods of doing things they had in those times. They say necessity is the mother of invention.
  22. The bass line isn't the song par se or even part of it's core. A song is words and melody. For example, when people cover a songit's often with a completely new bass line anyway. If this bass player got credit, then why not give co-writer creditto every musician who ever played on every song ever recorded? The hardest part of writing a song is coming up with the words and melody.
  23. This is a really good post. It's definitely true that the Roman's outstretched themselves territorially. Then they had no choice but to outsource manpower in order to run things better. What's interesting is that many ant-free trade people these days, blame outsourcingfor the economic problems we have now.Just like the Romans, outsourcing in many ways means that people lose their sense of loyalty, butalso we lose control of our economies as well. This to me seems as rudimentary as 1+1=2, yet governments can't see this, and why?Perhaps just like the Romans, our governments have become corrupted. Just following the clicheabsolute power corrupts absolutely.Once you become corrupted, loyalty doesn't mean anything anymore, and being practical doesn't mean anything either.
  24. I guess the price is high because it's not mass produced. If it were on an assembly line, then they would be much cheaper. I'd be more impressed if the engine were made out of wood really.lol.
  25. All of the sites mentioned here so far are really bad. So bad they are ridiculous. So ridiculous they are almost entertaining when you try and imaginewho in the world would ever make such sites.Come to think of it though, a lot of the myspace sites are pretty awful. The way they take forever to load and are full of these giant imagesand skewered page setups. It's all pretty bad.
