  1. I'm not much of a hardware geek but maybe your hard drive is failing. Get software to check the condition of your hard drives. I think there are tools in the MBR to check the condition of the hard drives too, but I have vista and I'm not sure if those come with XP. ?Anyway, hard disks get things called "bad sectors" after some time in use. This all may of course be related to other issues. I also recommend opening up your laptop and dusting things out a little bit, once my computer couldn't run games properly because it had so much dust inside. And your laptop is getting pretty old (few years). You could however provide us with full specs of it if you can.?If you have an ubuntu LIve-CD, you can boot into it and select to "try ubuntu without installing" and then go to "System -> Administration -> Disk Utility". After the new window shows up, select your HDD in the list on the left and then look ?at the "Smart Status:" in the window. If it says healthy or is otherwise presented in green color, you're good. That's all I can say, I may be horribly wrong. I can smell the hardware geeks coming here to correct my mistakes already

  3. ?Okay, here's a quickie... water whirl with my username on it, lol?
  4. Sadly enough, no. Actually, in many cases, people actually choose lies (to get lied to and to lie) as a way out of truth. People lie and accept lies all the time. To be able to not accept BS and not talk BS requires being extremely realist. And I've found that because most are nothing near realists, one cannot be either without ruining his/her relationships. So I keep my criticism about people and their lies to myself. I've actually thought about writing about the general BS that is fed to people nowadays, or start a blog about it. I have a few 'friends' that talk behind people's backs. Mostly not about people inside the friend circle, but sometimes yes, that too. I usually don't want to get involved and often try to change the subject. I do think that they talk behind my back, too, as my personality is too much of a realist and easy to mock when I'm not around (I'd answer back if I was present, I know this because I have, and they didn't like it that much haha). Anyways, my point, lies keep people happy and in line. When we go into individual ones like in H4L's friend circle for example, they may be a disaster. I think everyone of your friends should tell each other how they feel, even if it did end up breaking your friendships. Often when telling the truth, respect is lost. And you view of the person's thoughts and 'friendliness' changes.

  6. 1. ^^ to the biological drives I mentioned earlier. The fact that we feel child abuse is wrong is because of human nature (= sympathy), the way we rationalize the wrongness of it lies in the destruction caused to the child. Then we don't have to explain it further, because you know, causing pain to someone is wrong (don't remind me of the silly exceptions I'm fully aware of). And that is what I'm talking about. No sight of absolute morals yet.. 2. Aww cmon, didn't you already fail to prove metaphysicality in another thread? So, you feel like you're not yourself if you're molded by the environment? Does that make you feel like you're not very special? Maybe one's self is what they're regardless of if it being genetic or environment-based. Maybe one should be able to accept him or herself as he/she is so he/she doesn't need the feel to explain why they have a certain type of personality because they were born that way. 3. What I meant by selfishness up there was an act that we decide on by the programming that is perfected to benefit ourselves, as a population and as an individual. In your example, we have to look at the reason why you want to prevent child rape. So, tell me... 4. An environment has a carrying capacity. And the stress produced by a population is to be considered as it is now to estimate it in the future. Therefor overpopulation is going to be a problem, as people are not moderate. And I never meant overpopulation is "right/wrong", but only pointed out that it wouldn't be exactly beneficial to the population. If you do think causing a population collapse is wrong, then it is. If you think overpopulation so that most die is a more effective way to reduce population and therefore more beneficial to the overall population (new start), then that okay, too. It depends on what you want to accomplish and how. Depends on perspective. So after failing to give me an example of an absolute case, you decide to ask me to give you an example of a truth that isn't dependent on reality. I define truth as a fact that has been verified (okay not exactly my definition... all hail google). Usually to verify you have to test. You test in reality to get results, don't you? So it is dependent on reality. Is this what you were asking for? As for homosexuality and it being natural or not. I've always had a problem with the word "natural". Because it's always used in such a stupid sense, and often not thought about it's meaning. If you want to say normal or mainstream, don't say natural. Always amazed at how people disguise things behind the word natural. Now sorry imma go kill a stupid fly that has been bugging me for hours...
  7. I had completely forgot you could use Pidgin for IRC! Thanks for your unintended reminder! Now I don't have to keep XChat running.. And yes Soviet good job on the IRC. I hope it'll get more users. Anwiii is there 24/7 but doesn't say anything haha. Anyway I'm in there when I can. You inactive ones, turn notifications on so you see when people are talking in the IRC!
  8. my site traffic is going up while i'm doing NOTHING, haven't even published anything for a LONG LONG TIME (wtf?)

seems like you have a secret helper :D

  9. So, you believe in something you consider stupid. And you have absolutely no other reason for believing in things other than that you'd feel like you're waste. So, conclusion; god in your case, makes you believe in things you think are stupid. You believe in them and it doesn't matter if the whole thing makes sense or not.I do really appreciate the honesty here because many don't just say it like it is, and I hope that you start thinking on your own some day.
  10. 3 pages of posts and nobody found the answer. I feel sorry for these people, I really do For the ones that didn't listen that well in class:Centrifugal force
  11. Why do you then force yourself into believing things that you think are stupid? Because you can't accept that you don't know?
  12. Hmmm... this is getting interesting. I knew this would lure truefusion to reply! :DSo, kobra. That is subjective. Animals hold premature "morals", yes. BUT that is based on their biological drive. So, they don't "know" right from wrong, but they choose the one that is most beneficial to them . And you can't tell me why the choice that is beneficial is the right thing to do, because that'll be traced back to its reason. So, there's only right/wrong when it depends on a goal. The goal to succeed is biologically programmed in us. We get high on accomplishments . We are the product. The product is designed to accomplish certain things. The choices we make are based on what we want to accomplish. Therefor, morals are relative. For example let's take this argument:Child rape is wrongWhy? Other than the fact that you wouldn't like it to be done to you (which wouldn't be a valid argument anyway), you can say that it messes up the child's development, but that is yet again relative.Yet again no sight of an absolute wrong or right. It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish or what you don't. As already proven by truefusion, if the goal is to reproduce, everything preventing it is wrong, you shouldn't kick your friend in the nuts, and yes you should be able to reproduce, anwiii. BUT, taking it a little step further, over-reproduction leads to overpopulation, which causes population collapse. If the goal is still to keep a stable population, then maybe it wouldn't be that bad if you kicked your friend in the nuts. Just an example folks. But the point lies here; why is keeping a stable population the right thing to do? Because of your own selfish self tells you to.I would also like to comment on the homosexuality thing, that if homosexuals are born that way (I'm not saying they aren't), then it should show up in the DNA. And even if it was a result of the environment, that is how they are. I personally believe that most variation in human behavior is caused by the environment. Our body reacts to the environment, making us what we are.TF doesn't know this because he wasn't in the chatroom when we were discussing the matter, BUT, it started out when we were talking about the influence of the environment on child's moral values. To be able to make the "right choice", you have to have directions. Human mind just doesn't work otherwise (sorry to disappoint). Now that is a mix of assumptions and straight rules and norms, that is the first part. Most decisions are based on this, why? The easiest way. When you have the directions written for you, you don't have to stop to think why something is wrong or right. Then there's the other part by which we decide, that is selfish. Neutral decision-making is impossible. Because everything has consequences, and those consequences are divided to "beneficial-to-me" and the opposite. You don't stop to think what is beneficial to others, otherwise you wouldn't be able to decide anything, would you? You have to face the fact that people consider the first part objective, independent of everything, although it's based on the second part, but without the 'rational' thought in it. Then they make these silly exception rules when their norms can't keep up with the situation. Like killing is okay, if you're defending yourself. That's not a neutral standpoint now, is it?Truefusion, by factual proving I meant if somebody could show me something that is always wrong, and the 'wrongness' is independent of our own selves. My wording was a little weird tho, I have to admit. I think I was high on feeling very fantastic yesterday with the school ending and all. ?Keep it up, guys!
  13. I'm sorry but that's just stupid. That's like saying that banana has to taste good, because otherwise, I couldn't enjoy myself when I eat it. You're providing no rational reason other than how you'd feel if it wasn't true. The way you feel about things doesn't change reality. Next time, try to define something before you show the roots of it.
  14. I fail to see why running like crazy for 30 second at a time is the healthiest way. And you'll look like a moron who doesn't know how to jog? Anyway, the most beneficial way would be to push your durability. That is jogging for continuous periods, or swimming, however you like it. Cycling is also a good way. If you run as fast as you can for 30 seconds, your muscles are going to get tired pretty fast and you have to quit after that, don't you? If you jog/run for long periods, most of the pressure is put on your lungs to give you enough oxygen to burn with, and your heart. You're running with a steady tempo and your muscles don't hurt, you're able to do that for a long time, thus burning more fat than running around like you just got out of a mental hospital. Note, if you decide to jog, first you have to jog until you're out of sugar, your body will then use more fat than it would normally. Jog for at least 30 minutes. If you can't, start small and take breaks.
  15. Okay, this kinda started in the shoutbo - I mean the chatroom. But, I want to talk about the source of moral values...So let's get started, I think that the basis of the moral values comes from biological drives. So simply we do what advantages us. Maybe not always consciously, but usually yes.The rest, the decisions we make are based on the norms that are dictated by our environment.I also believe that people NEED an absolute standpoint to be able to decide things, and they do, even if they don't admit it.So, as for declaring something right or wrong, we can't declare something wrong or right because we aren't in a neutral standpoint. I challenge you to give me an example case where you can factually prove right or wrong.Reply, and we can discuss this further, I have no time to continue this muc...
  16. Relax, maybe people just had to think a little about what it means to them, and then forgot to reply. As for me, I'm not sure/I don't know. I'm not much of an active poster around here like you and a few others. I guess it's a place I hang out. That's why I was upset when we had no shoutbox. And there are many great people here to have a chat with. I feel like I know some people (although I can't really know them) and can talk with them etc.

  19. Well, there are more options than you think.Android-Windows dual-boot, there's also the new MeeGo OS (runs on Intel Atom processors). Also consider lighter versions of Linux or ones designed for notebooks. And yes, Ubuntu is slowly starting to suck... I think I'm going to change distributions soon, or at least revert back to the earlier LTS.As for the battery usage, reduce the brightness of your screen. At first it looks like it's super-dark, but later on you won't even notice it. And if you have reading troubles, just CTRL + scroll the wheel. And disable start-up programs you don't need.

It is possible that the only test topics were the ones that Guest_shree_* replied to, but you also have to wonder about, why the same forum? Why the same pattern?

  21. Skipping over my wish? now that's evil. Even more evil than the choking on pizza thing... Your wish is granted, but the moon replies to you; "why the hell are you talking to me?!", sounding like a drunk man talking esperanto. And my wish... well look at the earlier post of mine.
  22. Ahh... everyone is being so mean nowadays...Anwiii, your wish is granted. But, they'll lose all the matches from now on... forever. In fact, every team the Lakers players play on will from now on be cursed and will lose all matches.Okay, I'll direct the hatred away from forum members now: I wish I could play like Oscar Peterson. And yes you have to google him, you deserve that.
  23. I see I have woken up the sleeping giant, apparently, I hope it wasn't the cave thing that got you to ruin my wish. Oh well, I was practically asking for it, I guess. I really thought you would make up something more creative. Instead you tell me your life story? *PWN3D* Anyway, your wish is granted, in fact, Bani will be very mad at you. He won't flip now, but some day, some day, when the pressure builds up and he lives in misery, he'll remember your name... Also take notice that he wrote down your location now, and he can see your facebook profile (damn dude, why don't you make it private?). And anyway, let's say you'll receive one of those calls similar to the ones in "The Ring". Anyway, my wish... I wish anwiii wrote with capital letters in their appropriate places from now on.
