  1. Wow I jumped on this right away because I used to used PGPdesktop to secure my laptop but now days its only a 30 day trial.PGP provides 128 bit encryption and is very easy to use. This Cryptainer seems to be free "no trial" software which is great but if you look at the technical specs its not providing 448 bit disk encryption. 2. Hi and welcome to the world of proffessional hosting You say that you built a site using Tripod before, its going to be a steep learning curve to get a site running without a lot more knowledge. We are a lot different from the Tripod sitebuilder type of thing, the Xisto package is a full blown hosting service. Control Panel is the "industry standard" simplified way of administering your account and webpages here. There are many tutorials out there to help you get to understand Cpanel. Heres just one i found on google.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ its all video, dont be put off that the cpanel version is different in the tutorial, they all basically work the same. Also dont worry about the account activation page subdomain section where it says Xisto - this is an error on that page.Rest assured your hosted here at Xisto not our sister site Xisto. You see all the backend pages were designed for Trap then renamed for us here, some mistakes are still in the text but not the code. You have suggested using Joomla CMS, this is a very good way to start!! but also will require a bit of learning. There are other CMS systems such as Drupal and Wordpress but for me Joomla is the king of them all. I am a bit of a Joomla expert here at Xisto, I have a tutorial about how to install the latest Joomla package. This will really help you along getting Joomla installed and also configuring the parts of Cpanel you need to configure to get Joomla to work on Xisto. http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?showtopi9&hl=joomla Joomla can be very powerfull and versatile because you can customise it with literally thousands of free templates, free module, free components. These allow you to build just about any website you want without it feeling like a standard CMS site. If I were you I would google around for free Joomla templates there are soo many stes out there!!, you say you want a WOW guild site, I have seen WOW templates for Joomla before so maybe you can just install one of them? I would be happy to help you with your site and with the configuration of Joomla if you decide to go down the Joomla route..
  3. The easiest way to get Apache, mail, FTP, MySQL, PHP etc running on your machine is to use something like XAMMP - it runs on windows, linux, osx and solaris. I use it myself and must say it is so easy to configure, just follow the onscreen prompts and you are all set. Here is what the basic package contains - Apache HTTPD 2.2.4, MySQL 5.0.41, PHP 5.2.2, PHPMyAdmin 2.10.1, Mercury Mail Transport System v4.01a, FileZilla FTP Server 0.9.23 and also has the zend optimiser installed. Also I think its got SSL as well but I have never used it. One other great thing about Xammp is the way you can install it all "ON" or "OFF" what I mean by that is that you dont have to install it and activate the services at startup of the mahine. There is a Xammp control panel application that you start then click on the servers you want to start, for instance I tend to only start Apache and MySql and turn off Mail and FTP. I do this so that I dont have all these services running all day long on my pc and also giving a hacker more open ports to have a look at All in all Xammp is a perfect way to test out any site locally before hosting it here, I do this and it takes much less bandwidth off my astahsot account, I get a site 100% working an no bugs before transferring it to Gamma.
  4. Well I am with Jeigh here, using a full blown full on CMS can seem sometimes like using a sledgehammer to crack a wallnut but they can all be slimmed down to thier basics or not if diskpace isnt really an issue on the server. If youve coded your theme well in html/css then it will be a breeze to get it working something like Joomla or Drupal. For instance in Joomla you can just look at any standard template and work out the essential core Joomla CSS and php then literally copy it into your own layout or vice versa. You can even leave the standard teamplate installed and then just paste into teh Joomla code window and as long as you have the images etc pointing to the right folders...blammo you got a default install of joomla running in your layout..maybe you have to move some of the module positions round btu when you get into doing that its really not hard. Also with full blown CMS there are soo many modules etc that can really cut down the work out for you when trying to do something different for a site, or if you really get into the php coding side - writing your own modules to do anything you want.
  5. I think like xbox I am a big xbox fan <_<My son has an old xbox with an 80gig hd in it, Ive kinda pimped it up into a Linux media center also.He can play and dvd, avi, mpeg, divx, xvid, mov etc on it and go on the internet (we did have to take it apart and solder a USB connecter into the front of it though) with a keyboard and mouse. I even got hold of an xbox VGA convertor so he has it hooked up to a flatpanel at a nice rez and refresh rate;))But saying all that..my son does like the look of the Wii and it seems to be pretty powerfull and versatile, but i think he likes the controllers more than anything. But I think I am still going to steer him into getting a xbox 360 for Christmas!! I really like the look of the 360 and its specs are pretty amazing for the price you pay for it.
  6. Pretty cool for a first run out <_<I do suggest going through our graphic design tutorial sections, you can learn so much from there, we have soo many talented sig artists around here and also over on our sister site http://forums.xisto.com/ I think at trap they have sig battles and also have a sig of the month contest.
  7. I do not think you will be able to get around this problem.I guess this is some kind of turn based game? if so you are making too many page reqests on the server. What the admins are doing is limiting thier bandwidth to the players and also more than likley had to deal with people making scripts that spam the servers with requests for pages so they now limit the amount of pages served to a player each hour problably.I used to play a scifi strategy game that had the same rules cos someone made scripts to use up all thier resources looking for new planets and mapping the game out in minutes, then the player could hand over co ordinates of every hostile planet to his teammates, kinda killed the game off till that issue was re-coded in the game!So you will have to live with the limit I am afraid, its there for a reason.
  8. HI Brain seems to load fine over here.Maybe its a temp DNS issue with your isp? have you tried it via another isp ?
  9. My Girls Sony phone also makes videos in this horrible 3gp format. I have also been looking for a way to convert them to an avi or mpeg.I remember downloading about 5 different apps to do the job.A couple couldnt even read the files off the phone at all.One managed to read them put took about an hour to convert a 30secs test movie to mpeg. The last one took about 30 mins to make the 30sec test into a 700mb+ avi file!! After all this I gave up!!! Btw Youtube allows you to upload 3gp and it converts it for you on the fly and puts into its flash video format so we know its possible...anyone got any ideas? Heres some links that could help. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.boilsoft.com/download.html https://www.moviecodec.com/download-tools/mp4-player-mobile-software/imtoo-3gp-video-converter-45/
  10. They both load fine for me over here.Try clearing your browser cache out?
  11. Lol I was laughing soo much when i read this on the news sites. Why would anyone want an outdated browser written by Apple on thier Windows pc? when theres Opera, FF, IE, Flock etc etc Probably soon Apple will make it so that if you want to use Itunes (i recommend you dont) you will have to use Safari to be able to browse their site in order to boost the downloads of Safari."It's KHTML's limitation that's pulling Safari back" and also the Apple corp themselves for thinking any Windows users would be interested in Safari.
  12. Sure we do support cron jobs <_<When you get hosted you will find the link inside Cpanel to be able to work on them and set them up.
  13. Very good idea Chesso, I hope others will rally round and add thier experiences and hopefully pull together some kind of tutorial for making your sites super safe. This would benefit us all and the servers here would be more protected if the hosted sites were locked down more. The sites I work on generally dont have logins or forums so that hijacking sessions etc is not a problem for me but it could be in the future. Some small thing I always do is to hash any email addy on the sites so they cannot be harvested by spam bots easily.A few months ago Xisto was used as a spam gateway from one of our members accounts and a lot of emails were sent in a very short space of time, so there really is a threat out there. For instance anyone@Xisto.com becomes a string of decimals not an ascii string. A good site for doing this fast is here
  14. I found it completly pointless and irritating ;(It felt like I was on a vnc session with a very slow dial up connection and a 200mghz pc at the other end..not the sensation that they tried to describe on the site.
  15. I must agree with both you, notepad++ is just simply amazing B)The amount of languages it can understand is staggering.Another great bit of open source coding from the masses to the masses.Mark420;)
  16. Well i think ive tried about 10 different CMS systems including a few corp in house developed CMS so I have a good eye for what works and what doesnt.CMS systems can be very difficult for a new user to get into and to deliver the desired result but I must say that easiest and most powerfull "free" CMS must be Joomla.Yes I know a lot of people on here use Drupal , I have used it myself for a few projects but to be honest there really isnt enough addons for me and a steep learning curve for the person I hand the site over to.There are so many addons and so many templates that are totally free to use for Joomla. This is all great for the entry level Joomla user but with Joomla you can get really into building your own CSS and HTML templates, if you are into PHP and MySQL the sky is literally the limit! because it is soo easy to modify addons or write your own.The Joomla community is vast with many places to seek help other than the main Joomla forums and of course many sites to download addons.I have been using the beta of Joomla 1.5 and I must say it knocks the socks of the latest Drupal B)https://www.joomla.org/
  17. Ahh yes you will not have the rights to change the title of the post, best thing to do is to use the "report" button on your post and then fill in the text box that you need the title changing.Us mods will look after it for you.Marky;)
  18. Whats crazy is..I rememebr those days B)Alsi I was working at IBM when Warp was launched..wow that was a great partenership between IBM and MS..LOL!!!And in true MS style ofc they stole most of the ideas and repackaged them...
  19. I have had to upgrade (or downgrade im not sure) to windows xp from win2k to be able to run Cs3 so I installed it on a clean install with nothing else on it.It took ages to do the analyse the pc routine but not as long as Niru i think, it took about 45 mins to install Dreamweaver, PS, Fireworks, Flash, Indesign, Illustrator, Bridge and Contribute. Then I did myself a huge favour and got them all working the way I like it then I ghosted the pc so I dont have to go through that install again )I must say I am very impressed with the new Dreamweaver, esp the CSS stuff, dont really like the look of this "SPRY" system so far, but I did like the fact that you could copy and paste from another open CS3 app directly into Dreamweaver.I did have problems installing CS3 onto a laptop with 266 MB ram tho;( the main adobe installer threw it out and wouldnt go on without 1 gig of ram.But the Cs2 installer did the same, but I found a way round it, you go into the specific folder on teh cd for the program and run the setup from there.
  20. I really like what you have done here Turbo :ph34r:And also I can say it works cos I edited my own Hosting Topic and put a different URL in and its now listing that URL :)A very handy tool!
  21. I had some troubles with my mail during the HD swap over and down time, but it came back ok again, but now I get the same errors as you.I could use Horde via Cpanel to get to my mailbox but now I cant at all, its like its not there and Outlook will not pop the mail cos it cant see the mailbox.;(
  22. I must agree Leafbunk, I have steered our family away from this film, were getting kind of sick of these cheaply made animated films. Also I have never seen soo much promotion over the easter weekend for the dvd, I think it must have done really bad in the cinema in Europe for it to be everywhere soo soon.I go to get gas..I literally have to push past a huge penguin, I go to pay and guess what ? yes theres a stack of DVDs on the counter and posters all over the shop.I got to buy a newspaper..same thing going on there, we dont watch much TV but before the football on Easter Sunday three adverts in a row on the TV.Not to mention the toys..the cornflakes.. the stickers..the cleaning cloths!I much preffer our son to watch something like Howls Moving Castle or Princcess Mononoke.Much more talent involved, much more of a story, much better animation.
  23. I am soo busy atm ;( got a site going live in the next couple of days..but in the next few days I will be having a go at it also, so hopefully you will have two sets to choose from
  24. Ok I think I get what you need, Ive done this in the past a few times myself. What you need first is a good boot floppy, head over to bootdisk.com and pick the flavour of bootdisk you want. Then you need to make a floppy from the exe file that you downloaded. Now depending on which burning sofware your using these next steps might be diff but just google around or look on the onsite help or FAQ for the burning software on how to make a boot CD.I know that Nero can do this NP, but I use an old version of WinonCD.In my software I just say Make boot CD and then fill up the cd as normal with the .GHO file..the DOS Ghost program, and if I can all the drivers and also a service pack for the OS if it will fit. Then It asks for the files to make it bootable..they are on the floppy (make sure that you have got a bootdisk with generic drivers for the CD and or DVD drives that the Ghost file is to be deployed on ) and I can use a windows explorer box to locate the A: drive then it copies the floppy into the cache then writes the CD.If you REALLY get funky you can write a .bat file menu system so that when it boots from the CD/DVD it gives you choices..ie. I made one that had Fdisk, Ghost , Boot from LAN etc all on menus so you could sort out partitions then reboot then go right into ghost then reghost it all with the CD just sitting in the draw. Then when DVDs came out I got even funkier I made a DVD with dual ghost on it so we could rebuild the companies Compaq pcs with with a choice of XP or Win2k depending on the user, we also used to put all the usefull apps that most ppl use on the disk too so it would have stuff like Winrar, Acrobat etc and ofc all the drivers for each models in seprate folders.Using these disks really cut down on support calls cos we knew if the fix took longer than 30 mins..might as well Ghost the pc and start again afresh instead of spending too much time on a problem.Good Luck and post back how your getting on.Marky;)
  25. Great thanks for the update OpaQue,I can report that MySql is cooking with gas again and also very happy my mail is back up and running and my backups are fine.Fine job mate !!
